UMC's was also really good and also D-Nice. Oh, and K Solo. The DOC...and New York's Special Ed...lastly Gangstarr and of course...Hieroglyphics and Souls of Mishief, especially their stuff from the '90s!
@@johnnyryall3966 3rd Bass dissed them first in a song called Sons (or something like that). I believe their label (Def Jam) wanted them to do it because the Beastie Boys left them.
The song was Sons of 3rd Bass. It's actually pretty solid for a diss track but it has always felt a little gimmicky to be the first track on their first album. The BBoys left Def Jam and 3rd Bass was their next thing so there was maybe some encouraged animosity. Mike D also has admitted to being shitty to Serch. Like throwing water balloons at him when he came over to talk about the industry or something. MCA definately smoked MC Serch on that verse and history has shown who had the last laugh. BBoys for life!
A lot of people talk about MCA's verse on this, and how hard he goes, and yes he does go hard and it's awesome, but they all 3 were straight killin it on this song. I mean they always killed it on all their shit but thus song has always been really good all 3 just killing it.
What a great honest genuine reaction to a great song. When MCA started spitting you couldnt even contain your enthusiasm. Everyone here felt the same way (and still do) the first time we heard it.
So glad you got turned on to the beasties. Shame Adam passed away. You are hitting some favs of mine too. That whole album was our high school tripping album. Whew weee
I assume it won't be long as we cannot avoid the inevitable the masterpiece b-boy bouillabaisse must be around the corner soon... It's a 12 and a half minute mash up masterpiece with some of their funkiest stuff ever
It’s freakin EPIC and I just got physical chills thinking about it. LOVE the BBoys hard since I was 14. I distinctly recall waiting for this album to come out, and then riding the bus to the record store to go buy the Cd on the release date. Stole a 20 out of my moms wallet that morning to fund that particular adventure, I guess I could pay her back now…? Anyhow. School the children on all the greats, it’s so essential. XxxooO
From a student of all music my dad was a musician who always listened to what I brought him I love the fact he was so opinionated he loved how I would listen to everything but the beastie boys did something to me I loved they rapped played there own instruments I will never forget when my dad said the Beastie boys were a movement that was in the late eighties still gives me chills because of what they accomplished as artist
I told you MCA's flow on this one is the hardest. He goes off!!!! They all spittin fire but MCA had beef with MC Serch and destroyed him. MC Serch is on record saying he was so stunned by the diss and it was so fire he had no response. LOL!
The Beasties broke into new territory with Check Your Head. It was definitely their transitional album in which they started playing their own instruments on the albums and the production of Mario C took them to new heights.
Been WAITING for this one. MCA diss on Serch is scalding. Lol. Love that Serch chose this one as one of his favorite Beastie Songs on their Sirius channel
For those of you wondering the sample at the start... its from Wildstyle, the graffiti/Hip Hop movie from the 80's Used to love that film ua-cam.com/video/l6awZUwVTKc/v-deo.html
Most reaction channels be like "Keepin' it real here. Imma release one video this week." You release about 15 a day and take a pee break in the middle. Dude. Amazing.
Helllllls yeah. Classic. I love everything about this song, but MCA comes so brutal in that 3rd verse, and the beats are so sick and, yeah, like changing it up every 8 bars. “Ain’t even gonna call out your names ‘cause you’re so wack.”
A diss track by the Beastie Boys, rippin' on 3rd Bass, who were pretty good in their own right but Russell signed them after the Beasties left Def Jam and I think it was Serch who talked shit in the media about them so MCA laid him out on the track.
When the greats talk about the greats, they always talk about the beasties. It's no secret that they are legends. Their debut album is the first ever hip hop record to go number 1. It was huge. Their second record is an artistic masterpiece but was a total commercial flop. They became a joke. By the time the 90s came around, they had nothing to lose. They were free to be as dope as they wanted to be. They are goats.
I saw them in Glen Burnie Maryland at at place that used to be a skating rink . It was 1993 and they were touring this record. I grew up on them and they were phenomenal live.
the bomb squad (the shocklee bros) for public enemy was the only production crew that could match dust brothers era beasties, in my opinion. that said, i remember thinking at the time that the muggs production work for cypress hill sounded very much like beasties. the bomb squad had their own very unique noisy style which i still love.
Lovin' the reactions. Check 'Non Stop Disco Powerpack' for a slept on gem of theirs and it was one of the tracks recorded not long before MCA passed. Serious flow on it
1:43 mark - Teez says Ad Rock is in a zone. 3:32 mark - Teez’s mind is blown as MCA takes it next level. Great reaction man! Please react to the Beastie Boys’ songs “Shake Your Rump” and “Root Down.”
Saw them live over 20 times. If I had to choose 2 groups to listen to forever, they would be Beastie Boys and Rage Against The Machine. One of the major things that sets BB apart are the fact that they actually play their own music. These guys are a band, that just happens to be overwhelmed with hiphop ability, and blessed with one of the best DJs ever.
I've seen them a whole bunch of times too. Everything they put out you can just tell they put their all in it. Also they come across really well live when a lot of hip hop doesn't translate to the stage.
We got our own studio under the g, no question life has been good to me, cause life ain’t nothing but a good groove, a good mix tape to put you in the right mood.
Sonically their influence is everywhere . There’s actually a UA-cam video out there going over why they are the greatest hip hop band ever there’s also the counter to that as well. Last verse is a response to a 3rd bass diss track on the beasties . MCA went ham
his surprise every time the beat changes just shows how far modern rap has traveled away from dj culture/live shows and towards digital production/studios. this is not a criticism, just an observation! hip hop of the 90s used samples but the template of a hip hop production was still an actual dj behind the mc's, mixing different sources. Multiple layers/beats might sound weird now but was fairly common at the time
Off the grid please. It is a full instrumental only. I do not believe you have listened to them play only their instruments and turn tables. Off the grid is amazing
You are my favorite reactor by far! I think you would like a Beastie Boys song called Sabrosa...it's all instrumental, and it's just a funky, funky jam. There's the album version, or here's a killer version they performed like at the Tibetan Freedom concert. ua-cam.com/video/Zjmtup6HdjQ/v-deo.html (song is over at 3:55)
Serch is still sitting in a dark room somewhere, right now. Chain smoking cigarettes, drinking cheap whiskey, questioning his life decisions. Knowing far too late that "sons of 3rd base" was not a good idea...
Every verse they did on this was the same format: basic rhymes, then a fast section, then a scheme/schoolyard style, and then a final punchline with the echo? I'm tellin you...
This cut is an "acquired" taste for some...and a few simply just don't like it. I think it's a masterpiece. There's a reason they're in the R&R HOF...(my personal opinion of that particular institution aside)

Add Pharcyde and A Tribe Called Quest to that list and I'll co-sign.
