@@StaxReacts Third Bass dissed Beasties on "Son of Third Bass" while at the same time sampling Beastie Boys music to make other tracks on the debut 3rd Bass album. So they were dissing while also biting as MCA pointed out. 3rd Bass never made a follow up diss. In fact, MC Serch straight up apologized later for dissing the Beasties. As I understand it, the members of both groups are cool with each other now and let bygones be bygones which I think is very mature.
Beastie Boys are one of the greatest groups ever, period. But what gets lost in that and their style is the MCA was truly one of the greatest rappers ever. All three had their styles. Ad Rock was the visible leader, mainly because he was such a presence and the lead singer/guitarist on their rock/punk songs, but in every hip hop song there was always a sea change when MCA took to the mic.
Got to see them 1994 in their prime with probably 20k other people. They had a full band setup and DJ, went back and forth the whole set. Opened with Sure Shot. You heard that flute and we all went bananas..I don't think i've seen a show as hyped up since
Mike D mentioned someone bringing him 2 sealed copies of "Expansions". That's a funk/soul/jazz record by Lonnie Liston Smith from 1975. The bboys listened to everything and it's why their beats are so great. Great video!
I remember hearing 3rd Bass initiated the beef because Beasties left Def Jam for Capitol Records (which 3rd Bass mentions in “Sons Of 3rd Bass”). Hard to think that wasn’t the label instigating it. Beasties were the first huge white rap act and had already released Licensed to Ill and Pauls Boutique (two absolute classics) by the time 3rd Bass’ debut came out. No reason to diss other than to get some publicity.
"What's another name for pirate treasure?" I always forget how great this song is, especially when MCA hits back at 3rd Bass, who replaced the Beastie Boys on Def Jam. And if you haven't checked out any 3rd Bass yet (I don't think you have), you should give "Gas Face", "Stepping to the AM" and "Pop Goes the Weasel" a try. The latter is a diss to Vanilla Ice.
Would love to watch you livestream Check Your Head! As much as I love Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head will always be my favorite BBoys album. It’s fire, top to bottom.
I saw them live in 87 and then again on the Che k Your Head tour. When Check Your Head came out it was mind blowing. It’s still one of my top albums. Jimmy James, Funky Boss, The Maestro….it’s all good!
"Do you think it's chocolate milk but it's watered down Yoohoo" That's probably my favorite line in this rap, for people that used to drink YooHoo back in the days... the stuff came out so thick you had to cut it with like a gallon of milk 😂😂😂
That is a cool and realy groovy song and mca nailed at the end. Yeah i want always to be a professor for bootys. And bootology is worth to study it. Lol
Here is what is wild family, I'm sure some other folks probably already mentioned.. MCA verse was long said to be directed at Search from 3rd Bass. 3rd Bass has a song on their debut album dissing the Beastie Boys called Sons of 3rd Bass. MC Search was known to do a lot of dancing in live performances & he was kind of chubby so most folks including myself felt like it was a MC Search diss "I'm bad ass move ya fat ass Because you wack son Dancin around like ya think You Janet Jackson" Now you may have to check out the 3rd Bass, you too far down the rabbit hole to turn back now you becoming a backpacker like us ❤
Since you mentioned Sucka MCs, you should check out the video of the Beastie Boys doing Sucka MCs live to honor Jam Master Jay. It's a live performance, DMC is there watching. It's really cool.
Where is 3rd Bass now? 😂 PLEASE do a full album. Still a lot more samples than anyone else at the time but they were playing more and more of the music themselves.
Probably MCA's best verse without a doubt right there with Sure Shots message about respecting women. One of those rare songs where they do 1 verse each. Such a great great tune! When is that Glasgow 99 reaction coming? ;)
This song is a masterpiece. Totally relate the Mike D's confession, as music has been a lifeline for me, too. I've read articles that make me think MCA regretted going hard on this set, being negative. I get that, there's some gender shaming in his metaphors that he righteously rethought, but I also think it's one of his most powerful lyrics. I love his cadence and his passion. And calling out poseurism. And the bass drop at the end? Big fan here, too hard to have a favorite, but this is in my top five.
LOVE your reactions (especially to Beastie Boys)!! There are still a lot of Beastie Boys videos for you to react to. Please check out the following… An Open Letter to NYC, Right Right Now Now, and Rhyme the Rhyme Well. They are great songs. There are videos for all three. And for some reason there aren’t very many reaction videos out there for any of them 🤷🏼♀️
I think you like the b-boys because you aint frontin' at all. There's a lot of pages out there that frontin'. You can't cut the mustard when you frontin' it all.
Strategically the worst move from 3rd Bass dissing Beastie Boys, Cactus album was still good though...But as the saying goes, the rest is history. RIP MCA...
“Right right Now now” from “ to the five boroughs” album is worth checking out And once again please react to “ Pop your Balloon” Beastie Boys are the greatest group of all time
MCA was going all in on Third Bass for trashing the Beasties. I love it. Great reaction!
No doubt! Thank you

3rd Bass yup MC Search dancing around like Janet Jackson. Check out Gas Face or Brooklyn Queens from 3rd Bass as an intro.
If I'am not mistaken didn't Mike D dump trash from his balcony onto MC Search's head?
@@4Who4What I think so. Something like that anyway. Never cared for 3rd Bass, but MC Serch's solo album was awesome.
