    Thanks for saving me $600! I thought to myself "there's no way a valve adjustment and new gaskets is going to cost me that much."

      It is not a bad job to complete actually. Just take your time.

    On the 16 and 17 the spark plug seals are integrated into the valve cover

      Did not realize that. Thanks for the info. I'll update the title when I get a chance.

      I hear that’s vin specific, but yea for the most part you’d have to replace the valve cover to get now spark plug tube seals. And that oem cover is always on backorder.

      @yavz7565 I hate that they do that type of stuff. I understand they do it to make money because it is a business. It just makes things difficult for the consumer.

    Well made video.
    Do you happened to know what is the purpose of the little squarish grommet gasket on the inner middle of the cover? It looks like it communicates with a port going down the block and it has an evacuation channel in the cover. Is this the EGR re circulation channel ?

      Thank you very much. If I remember correctly it is part of the pcv system.

    Ive my engine light indicator on the dashboard turned on. Ran a diagnostic and received a p0420 code which is related to the catalytic converter. My local auto repair shop highly recommended that the engine valve needs some adjustment which should have done when the car reached the 100k miles. However, another shop told me that my catalytic converter might be bad and may need replacement. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @operationoverhaul
      @operationoverhaul  29 днів тому

      So, it recommends having the valves adjusted at 100k on these cars ( I was thinking it actually sooner but cannot remember) and that could be causing it misfire and that can damage the catalytic converter. But normally the code is a cat code and the other mechanic could be correct in stating that it needs a converter if the damage has already been done. Without doing checks myself and looking at live data it is hard to say. One way you can check to see if the converter is going bad or starting to is to check temps before and after the converter to see if they vary in temp.

      @@operationoverhaul How do you check the temps?
      Do you think it's still a good idea to replace the sensor?

    • @operationoverhaul
      @operationoverhaul  28 днів тому

      @237311 you can use a infrared temp gun to measure them. Are you talking about the oxygen sensor?

    • @237311
      @237311 28 днів тому

      @@operationoverhaul We're only discussing to the oxygen sensor on this video, so yes.

    • @operationoverhaul
      @operationoverhaul  28 днів тому

      @237311 I was not sure because I did not change an O2 sensor in the video. But I would change the sensor especially if you happen to need a converter. I always price a sensor and converter when doing a converter.

    what are indicators that point to needing to do a valve adjustment? I don't want to ripoff my valve cover and have to get a new gasket if I don't have too

      You will hear the valves/rockers rattling, maybe a little less fuel mileage, I think Honda recommends it either every 30k or 60k.

    When you align top dead center on cylinder one. How much do you rotate crank to get to cylinder 3 and so on, 180⁰?

    • @operationoverhaul
      @operationoverhaul  Місяць тому

      I used the bolt on the harmonic balancer to rotate the engine.

      @@operationoverhaulUnderstand using the crank pulley bolt and rotate clockwise. But after cylinder 1 how much do you rotate crank for cylinder 3 . That was the original question.

    • @operationoverhaul
      @operationoverhaul  20 днів тому

      @@roberts1159 you will need to get someone to watch the valves for you to see when they are fully closed. I do not know the number of degrees to fully seat the valves for each cylinder. I just have an assistant help me while I rotate it.

      Is there a way to confirm closed valve stem without pulling valve cover? I'm in the middle of removing intake manifold to clean valve stems. Crc cleaner didn't work

    • @operationoverhaul
      @operationoverhaul  3 дні тому +1

      @teenice894 if you have the intake off you should be to see if the valves are closed or open on the intake side.

    Do you have to empty oil before doing this?

    • @operationoverhaul
      @operationoverhaul  Рік тому +3

      No you don't have to drain the oil to do this. Just make sure to blow off any dirt and debris before you start the job to eliminate the chance of dirt falling into the engine.

    Is it a 10mm or 12 mm for the tool 2017 Honda accord valve adjustment?

    • @operationoverhaul
      @operationoverhaul  Рік тому +2

      It should be a 10 mm unless it changed on that year. I did look it up and everything I found states 10mm but you know how service data and google searching can be sometimes. But all of the hondas I have experienced used a 10mm.
