Twiddles thumbs. Stares into middle distance. Inspects belly button for lint. Listens to birds coughing in the trees. Does other stuff to pass the time until Jim finally gives us this week's video
What a bonus to see FIVE bowls this week. It was fascinating to learn that spalting continues even under a layer of Anchor Seal. Lovely work as always.
Jim, on behalf of men of a certain mature demeanor, I want to thank you for adding to our repertoire the use of a resin-filled syringe so that we no longer have to solely blame the dog for those unwanted and embarrassing noises that do sometimes plague us. Who knew woodturning could be so socially beneficial! And thank you for those beautiful inlays - especially the mother of pearl!
Jim has become my bedtime crack. This I what I watch to end my day. Watching the work and learning about it is relaxing. Making plans to purchase one of his gorgeous works. I want an awesome fruit bowel.👍 P.S. is your opening shot the Ottawa River? So lovely🍁.
Looking forward to this ... 1h 41m to go ... might as well get my video for newly turned carbide tool handles done 👍 ....... video created, perfect timing .... 5 minutes to go ... cuppa time 😁 Absolutely brilliant ... an hours worth of beautiful craftsmanship ... things going right, things going wrong and recovering ... superb👍
All four bowls came out looking spectacular. Each wood type has it’s own appeal. The troublesome inlays were worth the trouble, I think, looking at the finished bowls. Well turned, Sir.
The ocean jasper on the spalted maple looks amazing and the Opalite with the black walnut, those pieces were the show stoppers for me. Beautiful work!!
Having a cup of coffee and waiting to see another of my favorite woodturners do something amazing. Also hoping to win some of that amazing designer epoxy.
I’m on vacation in Athens right now, flying to Stuttgart to see family tomorrow early morning. I couldn’t help myself and had to watch your video. I hope my boyfriend will forgive me to chose you over Athens. Thanks for teaching us. If I ever pick up doing this kind of woodwork, I should be flawless. ❤
Thanks to designer epoxy for the giveaway. I live vicariously through those who played and won. I recognized one of those names so it was fun to watch and root for him.
😮 That walnut with the opalite inlay was, by far, my favourite! The white turning into the most interesting shade of blue made it pop. Absolutely gorgeous! The bell-shaped maple was my second favourite! The Character Bowl ... 👨🍳💋 They are all gorgeous!
I think this is my favorite video, so far! I love the black walnut with the opalite or the mother-of-pearl bowls, all the bowls are spectacular! We had so many of the black walnut trees in our backyard when I was growing up. The walnuts fell like rain in the fall. My dad used the shells to stain and treat his traps for his trap line. We kids had the tedious job of digging out the walnut meat for the freezer, and to make black walnut fudge. Now, it is so much easier to buy the black walnuts at the grocery store! I have an extensive collection of gemstones raw and polished. Ocean jasper forms in every color and the lighter shades can be as vibrant as coral. Black Tourmaline would be beautiful with the spalted maple. Incidentally, opalite is a man-made opal, but opalite is typically created from glass, plastic and resin. You are a BOSS, and your work is stellar!! Do you have an online store where I can shop?
All were very unique and gorgeous. I liked the contrast of the opalite and walnut, it "glowed" when light hit it. The spaulded maple had very nice markings. I always enjoy when you show the finished pieces because the wood grains burst out when light reflects off them. Enjoyed watching you create masterpieces again. Thanks!
Exhausted from hosting family members all last week. Finally making time to view your weekly video and feeling so relaxed. Your creations are mesmerizing and beautiful!
So far everything that i have seen you do is so beautiful. My husband ia going to be getting a lathe from his dad and is getting more and more excited while we watch more of your turning videos. Thank you for the inspiration.
Very good video I will say they all look cool , but my favourite one is the English walnut . Would like to see you use pewter again! Have a great week.
Love all of these Jim! The Designer Epoxy did a nice job of hardening the grain in the maple bowl. I agree with your comments about the importance of stiffening punky grain. I’ve also found that soft maple will change colors over time as it lays on the ground. When I first started turning a friend gave me access to a soft maple log. I didn’t have a truck to haul it home so I would cut a few pieces, take them home in the trunk of my car. It took me several months to get it all home. The blanks got darker and more spalted as time went by. Made for some beautiful bowls. Stuart
Congratulations to the winner. All bowls turned out awesome. The walnut one is my favorite. Have a wonderful weekend and week. Looking forward to the next one.
3:14 Hi Jim! I’ve not done any wood turning since Junior High School Shop class almost 60 years ago. I just find your videos highly instructional and very entertaining. Thank you for bringing your work to my attention. Be well!
The designer Apoxsee looks like it really works well. Love all four bowls you did. The inlays look really cool. Got to admit, I almost fell off my chair laughing when I heard the natural body sounds you made.
Love, love, love the shape of the spalted maple with the diopside inlay 😍😍 The opalite inlay is spectacular - hope you continue to use it. All the bowls are beautiful and I can see why the walnut with the mother of pearl inlay is your favorite - I too love the contrast. I always look forward to Fridays and your new video - very much appreciated !
I like the shape of the soft maple bowl, but the flash of the grain on the others is stunning. The inlay on all five are outstanding work, and a lot of work it was. Thanks for sharing your work with us. Beautiful works of art indeed. Camera work and editing was great too. Thanks for your channel.🌿 🥗🥗🥗🥗🥗
Very nice demo by the inlay bowl king! Your video shows the tedious things you can run into with inlays. Most people have no idea how much time it takes to get it just right. Well done!
Congratulations to the winner of the epoxy. That black walnut with the mother of pearl was I think my favorite. Another great informative video on the issues encountered, why and how you saved the pieces. Always learn a great deal from your videos, thanks for your content.
Love the blue opalite, I think that colour inlay would look awesome in the paler coloured wood, that’s just my opinion, obv. But as usual, they’re all gorgeous bowls. I’m sure the recipients of the wedding gift will be over the moon.
It's not the camera giving you trouble picking colors. It's the light. Ah! I see you fixed it later. Beautiful bowls with beautiful inlays! I love watching how to fix the issues when they crop up. These videos help a lot when you are trying to learn on your own! Keep up the good works!
Thanks for so many bowls in one video. Thank you also for including the prices. Much lower than I expected. I could actually be a contender! Fingers crossed. Nothing like a little hope in life
wow. just wow! this is my favourite by far. which is weird because my favourite colour is green! but i just absolutely adore the islands and the blue water, the burls underneath the surface look like underwater mountains or volcanoes to me. it gives very pacific island vibes. i really like this clasical shape too, combining it with this modern, glittery medium is such a good idea. stunning work jim!
All four are gorgeous 😍 the character bowl is my favorite just because the pattern in the wood! You picked beautiful woods and perfect complimentary inlays for each! Designer Epoxy
What a process! They all turned out beautifully in the end! I find it fascinating that the opalite looked white in the jar and then blue in the inlay. Thanks for another great vid.
Absolutely stunningly gorgeous all of them Jim 😍 Thank you so kindly for sharing your wonderful talent and videos with us all. Take great care and have a wonderful safe trip. See you next week.
I think that the opalite is my favorite of the inlay materials. Glad you were able to save the ones that foamed. Personally, I also think that the light inlay contrasting with the dark wood is always striking.
That diopside is so vibrant! It compliments the maple very well. I love it! The walnut bowl with mother of pearl and the other with opalite are both also big favourites.

I’ve gotten two of them. It’s not your fault.
And yes it's not your fault at all!
I knew it had to be a spam. I never win anything, lol
They had me going for a while until I figured out that I wasn’t talking to you, but they try to make you think that you’re talking to you!
Twiddles thumbs. Stares into middle distance. Inspects belly button for lint. Listens to birds coughing in the trees. Does other stuff to pass the time until Jim finally gives us this week's video
Belly button lint is the best, haha. Sorry for making you wait! Thanks

It’s the Petawawa River that flows into the Ottawa River.

Where some people don't like the inlays, I see them as gems waiting to catch the eye.
Thank you very much!
All four bowls came out looking spectacular. Each wood type has it’s own appeal. The troublesome inlays were worth the trouble, I think, looking at the finished bowls.
Well turned, Sir.
Thanks 👍

All the bowls are beautiful but I agree the walnut with MOP looks classy
