The Heartwarming Time I Helped a Baltimore Oriole
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 гру 2022
- Sometimes a bird comes into life leaving a memorable experience. I had one such case with a beautiful Baltimore Oriole that was a long way from home and during the most difficult season. The journey I had while caring for this bird was touching, to say the least.

I'm actually happy with no music in this video, the natural sounds are really nice just on their own :)
Thanks for all the amazing video's Lesley. Merry Christmas to you and yours and all the 🐦
That video was so amazing. No audio music was better. Thanks for providing this content!
Agreed.
No audio needed!
Agreed!
Lesley, whether the Oriole lived or not, this story is the real success that everyone can learn from. Your diligence to provide that bird with sustenance everyday twice a day is heartwarming.
Thank you for the beautiful comment, Kevin. 💙💜🐦
Don’t worry about the music. Your voice is much more soothing anyway.
Thank you very much. I was surprised at how refreshing the video is without music. The natural ambiance is calming.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd I told you that a couple of times already, you have such a nice voice, we don't need music.
Yes indeed her voice is as beautiful as the birds are 👍🏻❤️
@@chiefslief1886 i second that
@@Rgskgbgerboydcxbkgh I second that too☝️
To be able to get an Oriole to eat out of your hand...
That's something but to get one into the house.
Pretty cool!!!
Hey! Thanks for coming by to watch and leave a nice comment. Hope you have a wonderful evening. :)
This was such a poignant and heartwarming story, Lesley. I sincerely believe the oriole left on its migratory journey south after regaining its strength and fat reserves, albeit much later than it planned.
One thing is for sure, you saved this little one's life and helped it survive and that is so touching. I can't believe she ate out of your hand - how utterly thrilling! The unique thing about her bill injury is that that makes her identifiable, and although you've never seen her again, you never know if someone who sees this video and perhaps this bird, lets you know. One in a million, but still... I bet this bird is still around telling all the other orioles about the harsh Canadian winter and the nicest human she has ever met.
Thanks for sharing this with us, it truly warmed my heart.
Birding: The thrill of the hunt without the taking of a life and for those, such as you, Lesley, the nurturing concern of a heart that cares yet remains mindful of the freedom of flight.
Blown away they were up this far north
If our beloved birdies have guardian angels, Lesley is surely one of those. Merry Christmas, everyone! ✝️
Aww so sweet. Thank you. Merry Christmas
Dear Leslie- I sent a little your way a few months ago, but this story really deserves an encore ! I love your channel, your kindness and your charming videos. Both birds and humans are indebted to you!- John
Thank you so much, John I am so glad that you enjoyed this video. I loved putting it together for others to experience. I appreciate your kind donations and words. Take care 🐦💙💜
Years ago, I saw a young starling outside with its talons frozen to a metal post. Even though I hate starlings, I got some warm water from the sink and poured it on its leg and it flew away. Just one of God's creatures.
O my. I am crying tears. Life is good especially with birds in our lives.
Thank you for being so kind to these hardy but vulnerable little creatures! ❤️
When I was a child in the 1960s living in northern New Jersey I found a Baltimore oriole in a shrub in our suburban backyard. I had only seen a Baltimore oriole in my neck of the woods a handful of times! Such a beautiful and colorful bird! When I first noticed him (it was a male) I was close but the Oriole made no attempt to fly away. He was shaking and then I noticed flies flying around and landing on him. The bird was dying but I wanted to help him somehow! I went and got gloves and cupped the little guy who was unable to escape and brought him over to our wooden picnic table away from the flies and foliage. I quickly went in the house and brought out some birdseed and dish of water laying them right next to him. He made no attempt to eat, I suspect he was diseased and suffering in his last moments. I got a spoon and tried to bring water and seed directly to his beak but the bird had bigger problems on his mind. I was a kid and didn't know what else to do! At this point the flies had found the bird and all I could do at this point was try to swat them away! The bird passed on a short time later. More than 50 years later that memory still haunts me! I felt so helpless to render assistance. I'm glad you were able to help another oriole so many years later!
Thus video is a present to all of us that watch. Thank you.
Thanks!
What a kind Bird Nerd you are,
And your husband too.
I hope the little one is OK.
I am so glad you enjoyed this video. It was a pleasure putting it together and so delightful seeing other people enjoying it. Thank you for the kind donation and words. 🐦💙💜
Hello ma’am thank you for all your love and support for this beautiful birds ma’am god will credit you with all happiness in world ma’am I thank you from bottom of my heart
Happy holiday 🙏🙏🙏
You're just an angel. Thank you for helping the little birds. It warms my heart.
Your a godsend!! You saved that precious birds life, she or he was cold and starving.Bless your heart ❤️ 🍊 🧡
What an amazing story! With all you did for that little Baltimore Oriole you surely saved her life!
Odd is this may sound to some people, I can't help feeling like many of these birds find ways to communicate with one another, and one way or another this or you'll knew exactly where to go to find the right person to take care of her. She found the right yard and willingly ate from the right hand. I always admire your innate abilities with them. They know
Many people do fee that is the case with them. My years of watching birds so closely, I have learned that they definitely to communicate to one another and understand one another. It's amazing. Thank you for the kind comment. Have a wonderful day 🐦💙💜
One of my favorite lines in the Bible: "For God's own are the guardians of the earth". Thank you for being God's bird guardian!
Great story, I'm in tears. Good for you helping that little bird, I'm sure she made it
There is A VERY SPECIAL place in Heaven for you Leslie...God Bless You. Writing this through humbled tears. 🧡
Aww what a sweet comment, thank you Karen. I'm glad you were touched by this story, I loved the experience 🐦💜💙
Same here, tears when writting this.
God Bless You :-)
Poor baby. How did such a birb made for warm weather end up in a winter situation? Thank you for caring so much! Much blessings.❤️
No one knows why so many Orioles ended up way out of the winter range but I know one thing I will never forget that little bird. Thank you for watching this video. Blessings to you too :)
Before I would have ever considered myself an actual "birder" I found a baby starling(1 week oldish, barely a feather aside from ear tufts) on the ground near my basketball hoop when I was 18(yeah I know, a starling lol). It kept getting kicked out of its nest so I shoved it back in there a couple of times, and left a cart full of leaves I had raked underneath the nest. By afternoon it was absolutely pouring out and I was like "huh, I should go check on that bird." Went out to that area and it was all huddled up under a bush shivering half to death.
I took it inside, wrapped it in a hand towel in my hand, and sat there for a long while letting it dry and warm up. After like an hr I had to leave for work and left the bird in my fams care for the afternoon. Got home, had it in a box with wood chips and a towel over it and had to figure out what to feed it. I got googling and ended up feeding it dry cat food mixed with water to get it some animal protein, and after a few weeks I would bring it ants and inchworms when I could.
I'd let it bathe in my sink on a trickle and once it had some feathers it was essentially free in my bathroom. I'd take it outside to fly around a bit, and had to grab it out of the trees a couple times. I'd walk into the room and she would go wild chirping and land on my fingertip or my shoulder haha. I kept her a tad longer than it said they stay in their nest since I knew it'd be 100% on its own afterwards, but once I released her she did like 10 laps over my head at 50 ft high and zoomed off! Storm was a G!
This is an amazing and heart-warming story. We know that you are an avid bird-watcher, but this goes way beyond what people would do under the winter conditions you live in. Most of us, including me, would have given up and let nature take its course. You stuck it out, even though the odds are slim for the survival of this bird. Nature in general is not kind to its creatures. You are. And obviously you have a husband who is too.
God bless you for helping this Oriole.
What a nice thing, very touching😊Good good karma
Thanks so much :)
@@LesleytheBirdNerd very touching ♥️
What a lovely thing you did to help those in need.❤
That poor bird belongs in Panama. She was surely blessed to have been found by such a caring soul.
This is what we animal lovers do. This is who we are. ❤ We are currently fostering a hoarder rescue cat that just gave birth to 5 kittens in our home. Sadly, 2 died after only 3 days , but the other 3 seem good and healthy for now. All we can do is try our best to give them a good chance at life. That is the reward. Thank you, Lesley, and Merry Christmas!
I'm just commenting to goose the algorithm to make up for your stricken video.
You are so kind, I appreciate the help. Thank you :)
I finally got a chickadee to land on my hand and feed it
Lesley, you are a Wonderful human being. Oh, I hope that beautiful bird made it.
That was so nice Lesley. You are a good person.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed this. Thanks for watching it.
What a nice story! I really do think you gave it the boost necessary to get back where it belongs.
What a journey! I'm brought to tears worrying about this poor little thing struggling in the cold. She really lucked out catching your eye. Thank goodness for observant and caring people like you, Leslie. I think you really helped her regain her energy in order to journey south. ❤️
God bless you for helping His creature.
you are a life saver lesley from helping birds
What a great advocate you are for our feathered Friends. Your actions and your videos and your love educates people about how important it is for humans to help our feathered Friends because they need it 🙏
I'd like to think she made it back to whereever she came from thanks to your help
Amazing dedication to saving her.
What a wonderful story - you have a kind soul!
You are such an amazing person. This was such a heart warming story. Thank you for helping the lovely lost bird.
You are so kind and thank you very much :)
A similar thing happened here in Scarborough last summer. We noticed while a eating our dinner, a Baltimore Oriole pecking at a crab apple in the tree outside our window. We have never seen one before and had to look it up to see what kinda bird it was. The next day our bird loving nieghbours put out a orange slice for it. And it came back and i was able to get a picture.
God bless you, Leslie, for all you do--not just for the birds, but for we humans as well. :)😇
Thank you Lesley, you gave her a chance.
Aww so 😋 you are the best bird 🐦 lady besides me I love ❤️ them so much I will do anything for them I love to see them eat and play omg those guys and girls are the cutest feathered friends we could ever have caring for them brings me peace joy and 😊 GOD BLESS THE BIRDS 🐦 AND GOD BLESS YOU MISS LESLEY
Thank you Lesley.
This is an absolutely beautiful story.
This is the best Christmas story ever.
Happy Winter Solstice ❄🌌🌙🕯
A very happy Winter Solstice to you too ❄☃🌨🌌🐦
You are a wonderful and caring lady! Thank you for helping her survive that cold spell.
I once had a chickadee come to my feeder that had a fishing hook protrude from her beak! I felt so sorry for her. She came here because she knew this is the only place she can find nourishing sustenance easily.
This was five years ago and she was here for more than two months till the end of the snow. I never saw her again; I'll never forget her!
Baltimore Orioles are one of my favorite birds. We are lucky enough to have them in the spring through the early summer. So glad you were able to assist her. You are truly a good soul. ❤️
What's the big deal? They're just a fancy-flashy, fruit-slurpin' Blackbird.

Oh. I see. Well then, please permit me to share you two sharp points I hope you'll fall on:
1) Speech control is a verb best applied in the first person intransitive; which is to say, quite plainly, control your own dam _ ed speech.
2) When you're done with yourself, here, please go step in poop.
Faw Q very much. Now, have a hug and a very splendid day.🤗
Sweet story! Thanks for sharing. This summer, when I was walking outside, I almost stepped on a hummingbird that was on the sidewalk. It look like a tiny stick with green moss sticking up until I really got a good look at it I carefully picked it up an Aleve and took it home and gave it some sugar water, and it finally was able to fly away a few hours later I really enjoyed the close encounter I had and that I was able to help it
Delightful story. Thank you for sharing. I watch birds daily. I had a falcon visit me the other day & noticed it was young. It sat right in front of my large window and stared at me. I love birds. I paint them now.
This is a very nice video and thank you for caring for this beautiful bird.
No need for music.
You have a beautiful voice and do an excellent job explaining what you need to say.
Music can be distracting.😊
Thank you so much, Gregory. I think that you and my husband Jamie would get along, haha! Jamie is always telling me that I don't need music in my videos and that it can be distracting. After putting this video up with just the natural sounds I agree. It's more refreshing this way. 🐦
You are an angel for that little poor oriel for cold season for
Thank you so much for helping one of our wonderful birds survive! Roberta from Baltimore :)
Thank goodness for gals like you.
Love this video. Thank you for caring so much.
You are a delightful very special person. Thank you❤️🦋
Your heart is full of love ❤️
🐦💙💜
She got strong and flew ……… God bless you Leslie
What a great story and how good it is to see there are other people, going out of their way to help even the tiniest animal in the most desperate situation. In the city it's frowned upon to even spend a little energy to help a non domestic animal; feeding pigeons or geese is a nono and people think you are crazy if you feed young stranded seagulls on a frozen river with some bread and fish. And of course the eternal sin of trying to save a bee. Anyways...that bird flew off and lived, tnx to your kind heart and some divine intervention, which of course, is kind of the same thing. Merry Xmass to all the kind people of the world!
What a beautiful experience! Hope we'll get to see more of these vibrant colors with warmer climate and helping hands!
What a touching story... Thank you so much for taking such good care of her.
You are so welcome, I couldn't imagine letting that poor thing freeze to death. Little angel.

Your caring and action are just beautiful. It is wonderful you share your birding journey with us. I am sure all the birds everywhere love you too.
I'm by Toronto, ON. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, my grandmother had Baltimore Orioles that would come and eat the berries off of her Mountain Ash trees. She would also get cedar waxwings.
Thank you Leslie for helping this little 'angel'. The video is beautiful and there is no loss of enjoyability without the music. Hope you had a wonderful holiday.❤

Thanks you took her in ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow, awesome~
They will appreciate your help a lot~💞

Helping lost birds is great, with or without music. I once had a cockatiel land on my head in the middle of a snowy forest in winter. It stayed with me all the way home and I managed to find and reunite it with it's owner that day. It had apparently spent the 20F night outdoors after escaping the day before. Tough parrot.
God Bless You Lesley. And thank you for what you do !
thank you for sharing this. I have a single female kinglet visiting me for the last week. I live in Vancouver. downtown. we are having a cold snap right now. minus 8 to minus 12. I have been doing extra special caring for the the birds and the kinglet. I now don't feel like I'm doing too much. you are caring as well as myself. some people think I'm crazy but I don't care
