Ha! Brings back memories! Decades ago I was homeless, living in the woods for 4-1/2 years. While it was certainly an unhappy existence, one of the bright spots was how the wrens would visit me in my camp. Knowing nothing about these birds, I was amazed how cheeky and bold they were, closely examining me from inches away. The little varmints used to fill my hat with debris while it hung next to my lawn chair. I could never catch them in the act, but would discover their mischief when I grabbed it to head into town. Another fearless visitor was the ovenbird. They would stop in twice a year on their migration. If I sat still, they would often forage on the ground right at my feet. If I moved, they would only retreat a short distance, then get back to work. Once the local wildlife gets used to you being there 24/7, you're not considered a threat anymore. I even had bobcats stroll by a few feet away without even a sideways glance at me.
Great story, thanks for sharing. I hope you are not homeless any more.
@@mjremy2605 No, I've been living in a house for almost twenty years and I'm doing my best to live frugally and debt-free. However, with the way politics, society, and the economy are going, I'm not very optimistic about the younger generation's future prospects. I predict the rise of permanent third-world style shantytowns in America soon.
Nature is amazing and it draws you close to good experiences. Please take care of yourself. I am positive there are people who love you and pray for you. Don’t give up! Be happy!
I hope you have a wonderful life , I feel sorry for anyone without a home, take care my friend.🏴🏴🏴🏴

I rescued a male Carolina wren it got caught in a glue trap in my boss's garage. I got it unstuck from the trap but he lost his tail feathers. I called my vet. They wanted to put him to sleep so I decided to let him go in my back yard. And two months later he showed up on my patio with a female. They made a nest on my patio in a bird house. He had three babies wren's.

Cute birds. I enjoy learning about the monogamous bird species. It is such a sweet thing.
The birds make nests in the letters of the Walgreens sign.
Cute little fluffs with mustaches
You produce the most enjoyable videos, Lesley!
I'm really happy that you enjoy them. Thank so much 🥰
I came here to say that!
Everything about these birds is absolutely amazing and I will never get tired of watching them in my yard or footage of them on the internet!! They are so clever, cute, and have such adorable personalities. When I was a teenager our Carolina Wrens Jenny (who ate out of my hand!) and her husband Boogity would nest in various items we'd hang up for them. Jenny knew me so well she would let me take pictures of the babies every day. She was the best outdoor bird friend I've ever had and forever endeared Wrens to my heart.
I love Carolina Wrens so much! Love their birdsong. Bless their little hearts. Thank you for this lovely video! ♥️♥️♥️
I showed Jamie a video of one the other day, it was protesting about something it didn't like. All he could say was " I can see you now if we had them in our area. I'd never see you again. You be with them all of the time" hahaha 😄oh my gosh, he knows me too well. I love them. Thanks for the kind comment 💙💜
@@LesleytheBirdNerd yeah a new bird video 😊
There’s a Carolina Wren in my yard I named “Peanut” they bring a peanut from my feeders to my patio door. So cute, they look like they have winged eyeliner.
@@shellyrae777 Aw, Peanut! What a cute name for a Wren! ☺️🥜 Just this morning, I saw a Carolina Wren take a peanut and go under my Dad’s grill and then near the steps in the patio. So adorable! 🥰
@@BirdsandGhibliFan Aww that’s adorable. Thank you, the name really does fit. I always laugh when I see them eating peanuts, they’re so small, one peanut is probably like a bag for us! Lol
Official state bird of South Carolina
So cute and grumpy looking!!
These birds frequent my suet feeder here in upstate New York…..the cutest little brown fuzz balls I’ve ever seen. Beautiful songs….
Such "Wrenderful" birds which let us know their presence every day with their many variations of their "tea kettle" song
They call my home their home. I have a long joyful relationship with carolina wrens.
Love these wrens😊
Carolina Wrens lived in a hanging potted flower right near my front door one year and in a box of rags in my garage... using a missing window in the door to come and go.
Thanks for this sweet video!
i must say you are as cute as the little birds. job well done indeed.
😊 thank you
@@LesleytheBirdNerd you are so welcome my dear
My wife likes to hang seasonal wreaths on our front door . Many times we have opened our door and one of these little birds has flown out of the wreath and into the house.
Thanks So Much!!! for the Wren House design tips...I want to put up a couple this Spring for my Little Neighbors!!!
The House Wren is our other, Little Wren Character, "Tiny But Fierce"!!!
Thanks Lesley for this lovely vid 🤗🐦❣️
You’re welcome 😊
Oh my, cute as buttons.
These birds are everywhere in the neighborhoods in North Carolina. They have a distinct posture. They sometimes scream very loudly. They used to always build nests in different places in my parent's shed. When I would go into the shed, often a few wrens would frantically fly out, screaming.
In south east Kentucky We love our little CWs, such entertaining characters and beautiful songs. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. There is a pair that lives by the creek very near me. I can hear them, but rarely get to see them. I saw one once this year at a make shift feeder eating, but so far not again. There was a Winter Wren that I would see at my parents place, always a joy.
We have a pair nesting under a Christmas tree stand out on the upstairs balcony. This pair has been together for several years. Beautiful to see!
Ohh sooo cute
What a super sweet bird! I love wrens!!! I saw a very cheeky tiny bird grabbing big walnuts from the squirrel nut bowl and dodging squirrels then gleefully flying off with his prize. He had this white streak near the eyes, tail up at 45 degrees, slender curved beak that was meant for insects not seeds, and wondered what bird that was. Not a finch with that beak. Looked like a chipping sparrow, but they are more docile and fat beak like all seed eaters. It turned out this was a Bewick's Wren! Bold as brass this tiny thing stealing nuts and ignoring the bird seeds. I love this guy. He hops around hoppity, hop, hop, hop, checks everything out, chirps his songs, and visits me daily. I have to put up nesting boxes. I must keep him around, my little Wren.
I adore their feisty selfs. They're so bold, scolding us for living in the same place they do 😂 I started buying meal worms as a peace offering lol. I have a hilarious picture of one scolding the security camera in mid air 🤣 They also let my son know who's boss when he works on the car, they sit a few feet away when he's laying under the car and give him heck. Very entertaining as they hop around looking for insects, and we have plenty of them here by the river.
I do love these guys
What fun little birds. One time at night, my sister opened the front door to grab a package and one shot past her ear upstairs, and into my room. It was an ordeal trying to get the lad out, but I got a tiny, striped feather souvenir out of it!
My family still jokes about Carolina Wrens breaking into our house.
Hahahah oh my gosh, wow! That must have been something. I once had a Blue Jay in my home, in fact, it was Blue. I'll never forget it. I went on to bed the night before and I asked my husband to close the living room window before he went to bed. He forgot, and the next morning I heard some noise. Here was Blue inside trying to get back out but didn't know how to. He must have panicked. I had no idea how I was going to catch him. I just walked up slowly and gently put my hand out. At first, he tried to get away but then ended up in the palm of my outstretched hand. I slowly walked over to the window, he stayed perfectly still the entire time. I put my hand out the window and off he flew. All the other jays including his mate Sweet Girl were outside in the birch trees. What a story he must have told them. So sweet.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd
Oh my goodness, I LOVE your story of Blue getting inside and you helping him back out!
@@vickibowen5617 I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'll never forget the look on Blue's face that morning. Oh my
@@LesleytheBirdNerd That sounded absolutely magical! What an experience for the both of you!
@@LesleytheBirdNerd Maybe Blue figured you had visited his home so often, he ought to return the favor! Great stories, both!
I absolutely love these friendly little birds! They have such a huge, commanding song coming from such an itty-bitty little bird. They do love filling up on the meal worms and grab their worms in between the Blue Birds, Nuthatch's, Tufted Titmice and Robin's grabbing them up too. The Bluebirds seem to think the mealworms are only there for them and try to run everything else off.
Do you use dried mealworms? I have no luck with them. How do you feed the mealworms?
I have a pair visiting my feeders!! Love them!!
Love these feisty little rascals
Last year Carolina wrens make their nest in my husband jet sky, he don’t use the jet sky for a long time 😆😆
I love these little personalities! Cute, smart sassy and curious
I think they have been some of the more committed birds couples I've ever seen or been informed of on this channel since the male even creates multiple nest sites? Talk about making sure only the best of the best for his wife! Everything down to the way the still feed their children after they've fledged.
Don’t leave the garage door open. True, very true…
These little birds love my porch soffit ......Last year my Wife and I watched all the little ones leave the nest.... It was quite the sight!
Just noticed this morning a Carolina Wren building a nest under our canopy. It should be fun to watch its progress.
My little Carolina Wren, "Homer" tried to nest in my shed but I discouraged him. Instead, I hung up a nest box, which a house wren soon claimed. Poor guy, he sings everyday to attract a mate, but no luck. Meanwhile, Homer moved on. Such is the life of our adorable wrens! Thank you for this informative video.
Left my muddy boots outside on the porch to dry and low and behold a few days later I looked out the windows and watched a wren making trips in and out of one, bringing grass and pieces of string and things starting a nest 🤦♂️ I moved them before they got too far along and they proceeded to quickly start over again in the grape arbor 🙏
Love these babies 😅😅😅
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
these little cuties are just so too much...have lots of trees and white breasted and brown headed versions and they never disappoint...😍😍
Wrens, always making a nest in my chickens nesting boxes. I do love them though
I've found wren nests in boots, old coffee cans, wooden shelves, hanging pot plants, old hats, a golf cart dashboard and a big exhaust pipe.
My favorite bird.
Omg the Photoshop of the wren in the car
Add to the housing list dryer vent without a cover and old vacuum cleaner on front porch.
Thanks for all your videos. I love learning about the tiny beast around my backyard.
❤
We had a little Carolina wren nest in blanket we left outside for way too long. It kept raining, so we just left it outside to dry, and then we'd forget about it again. But before we knew it a little nest formed in the innermost part of it. I never got to see the baby leave the nest but I did get a glimpse of him sitting outside the next one day.
They are adorable! I’ve had many Carolina wrens nest throughout my yard-atop spotlights under eaves, in empty flower pots, thru holes in open brickwork and in garden umbrella ribs. They are not at all afraid and are so much fun to befriend!
I live in central Oklahoma and have spotted these little birds at my feeders. Thank you for the videos, Bird Nerd☺️
They are adorable!!
My mother found a chickadee nest in the vent leading from the kitchen in her house. We removed it to an open-cavity nest box because we didn't have a cavity nest box. One of the parents was there quite close watching us. I know that one of the nestlings had died last I heard, but I know nothing else about it; I wish I had insisted that the nest be kept where it was.
Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks a bunch for the donation. Appreciate it :)
I lived in North East Florida. I built nesting boxes, under my roof overhang. All facing my windows. I could watch from the beginning of the nests construction to after the babies left the nests.
They are adorable! Here in Sydney Australia we have butcher birds which are a delight - I have one that sits on my kitchen windowsill when I go to the sink and it peers at me and hops along the length of the sill until I feed it a morsel. My husband reckons it's SOOO smart because it's got me well trained LOL. Loved this episode - will have to check out what I've missed. Thanks!!
Great video, we love our wrens! We have a pair that nest on a little platform under our deck each year. They have the sweetest (and loudest) song... And the cutest little hop about. We enjoy them so much. Think we might try a nesting box this year. Can't wait!! 💕
Hi Lesley!
What timing you have!
Opened my BBQ lid yesterday and it was full of moss and sticks etc. Just used it 2 days before. Took out the nest material last night to cook and then felt bad about all the Wrens hard work so I put it back in this morning and the pair added to it all day. It’s theirs as long as they need it now. Over the last 4 years they have tried to build in the garage and my shed. They are so industrious!
Thanks for another great video! It was like you knew I found that yesterday. Lol
Hahaha that's awesome.
Nice of you to have a change of mind. Those birds something else. What a time I'd have with them if they were here in my location. Glad you enjoyed. Have a great Sunday!
Carolina Wrens are quickly becoming my favorites!
Awesome video!
Adorable little birdies!
Methinx “Carolina” is a misnomer. Quite the northern territory they keep.
Nice video. 😊
Thanks for watching
Fantastic video. Thanks.
Wrens are pretty amazing. 3 years ago I forgot to put out the wren bird house, they went into my garden shed through an open window and found the bird house and used it. I got scolded when I opened the door.
Haha, oh my gosh what a character they are.
Such a lovely little bird.
The Carolina wren is my favorite backyard bird. They're just so cute and spunky. Because they're so active they're really fun to watch. One year we had a little family that would walk along my fence all in a row to my suet feeder everyday. I just love them.
A family of Carolina Wrens lining up in a row on the fence. How cute! 🥰
So cute amazing 🙋♀️
I went to the paper box one morning and our favorite Carolina wren had put several sticks on top of my paper and laid an egg on it ! Needless to say, I did not read the paper for a while !
I giggled when you said they'll nest in flower pots and laughed out loud when you warned not to leave garage door open. Last year they tried to set up house in a flower pot in my garage!
These wrens are such little darlings 😊 I feel fortunate to have some here in SW New Hampshire visit my feeders. Thank you for another wonderful video, Lesley!
You are so welcome!
Carolina Wrens are the best!
Fascinating! I have a wren that comes every year to nest on the propane tank. I blocked the space with plastic bags this year, because the oil delivery man will throw the nest out. My little wren is unhappy with me and flies up to the window and pecks on it.
As with all your videos, I find myself grinning at the beauty and cuteness of the birds. About nesting behaviors, years ago my older sister was going to hang her laundry outdoors, and she saw a family of little birds (I think it was a different species) in residence in her clothespin bag! Of course, her heart melted, and for the rest of the year, she used her dryer instead.
That is really heart warming, I'm glad your sister left them to it :)
They're prolific bug eaters. Fantastic for gardeners.
I love your videos and look forward to watching them all. Thank you for sharing them with us and educating us on all the sweet little creatures we so enjoy. ❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
I love them
Thanks for sharing another wonderful video like always 🐦❤️🤗
Putting out meal worms in a hanging platform feeder attracted Carolina Wrens to our yard. We started with live meal worms from a bait shop and then switched to dried after a while.
The pair nested in a hanging flower basket right outside our kitchen window. They had 3 babies. I believe they all returned this year. They are emptying out the hanging feeder every day.
Yeap, I've had to chase them out of our garage when I'm working out there. They will come to our porch even when we are sitting there.
This year Tufted titmouses and Black-capped chickadees are also showing up on the platform feeder and eating the meal worms.
One nested inside a bag of playground sand inside a shed at our house. The boards on that little shed had some openings big enough for them to enter and return, so no worries. Sweet little birds, with such a beautiful voice. They are my favorites.
I love my wrens!!
This breaks my heart! Our little pair made a nest in our propane tank top but for whatever reason, they abandoned the eggs. It was at least a month that we left them alone, watched and waited for babies. We don't know what happened. But then, the gas man came and chucked the nest out. 🥺 it was very sad to find. Our wrens are Stull around though. But now we have no clue where they're nesting.
i thought i was illegal to disturb a bird nest.
Why do these Fuel Tank people get away with it
Here's an interesting part two about their nesting.
They will take one spider egg and put it in their nest by the time the babies hatch the spider has hatched, The spider will eat the spider mites and other little parasites that the baby birds and mom might have then the spider is sometimes their first meal
I took a small, quart sized flower pot. Drilled holes top & bottom (mounted it so what would be bottom was level chanted so naught slides out). Hung it under eave 8ft off ground. There have been residents every year but last year.
We just had some CW babies leave their nest. The mom and dad worked day and night to feed their babies and it's so sweet how dedicated they are to their young. They made a nest in a basket on my back porch where I kept my pins for my clothesline. Mom and Dad are still hanging around my house because one baby is having a hard time learning to fly. They don't leave that baby's side. It's so heartwarming to see how nuturing they are.
Yes! I caught this just in time. I love when you talk about native southern (US) birds. My dad once had Carolina wrens nest in his lawnmower. Fortunately, the babies had long since fledged by the time he found out. 😆 These birds are quite bold once they get used to you. When I sit quiet after setting out peanut chips, they sometimes come right up close to me.
Little feathered angels. 💕
My favorite bird!
Lesley---years ago when I was stationed in S.C. these little birds were all over...had them also on Long Island ...since I retired upstate NY haven't seen any...I forgot how wonderful they are.......snow coming Monday night have to stock up on Peanuts...thanks for always having such nice videos....great way to relax on sunday
Very interesting, since Carolina Wrens are the state bird of South Carolina. 😁
@@BirdsandGhibliFan Thanks for this info ...unfortunately 50 yrs ago when in the Navy and home-ported in S.C. I had not acquired my love of birds and nature....I have grown to love them dearly
We have house wrens and last summer a family of them hung around our garden. The garden has deer fencing attached to long wooden poles. One day when I was out there one of the young ones was clinging to a pole near the door to the garden and started begging me for food. He was acting exactly like a baby bird does when betting from its parents, beak open, pleading squeaks, and wings fluttering. I've never had this happen before with any bird, and was only sorry that I didn't have a bug on hand to give to the little thing.
Love these videos, but the ones on wrens are definitely my favorite!
Fascinating! Thank you so for the video and wonderful information ❤
When I was little my mother stored her dust mop with soft side up in the corner of a largely-enclosed back porch. Of course, that was an invitation to a pair of wrens to build a nest. Mom was unhappy that she had to buy another mop but it was great waiting for the eggs to hatch and then the fledglings to leave.
Thank you! I have just discovered what these two little birds are that have adopted one of my potted plants to build a nest. I’ve lived in this house for 37 years. Never saw nor heard them until recently. First it was the male calling for a mate(that was my thinking anyway). And it took about a month before him and his mate to show up on my covered patio. And they immediately started building the nest. They don’t seem to mind me sitting out there and dont pay any attention to my cat. My cat has never been a bird catcher. He doesn’t pay any attention to the birds either. I’m so excited! I’m a bird lover, but certainly not an expert at all. So, this is all new to me with wrens. It amazed me how loud the male’s voice is. But I love it. It’s music to my ears. Anyway, thanks so much for the learning lesson about wrens!
So cute 🥰
