What really gets me when it comes to Jaoanese horror stories is how the victim is just unlucky.
There's no rhyme or reason as to why you're the victim. You just need to be unlucky enough to come across an evil entity or cursed place/object. Period.
This makes it scarier since it means that literally anyone can be the victim.

I'm Japanese and I always appreciate that you give additional info about Japanese culture or language expression for people who can't notice/understand themselves. It must be helpful and make the experience much better. Satisfying to see those cultural differences being resolved.

I've just discovered you through Jack, but I really like your vids. First, it's really refreshing to see a woman gamer, second, I like your style, you're so calm (don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the screaming/joking style of people like Jack or Markiplier), but it is a nice change, third, I like that you play games that others don't that much because of the language barrier and that you comment on cultural things that people might not notice or understand. And fourth, there is sometimes a kitty in your videos with you!!! I'm joking just a little bit, I love cats (we have three of our own, two adopted from a shelter and one rescued as a sick kitten) and I always enjoy youtubers interacting with their pets in videos. So now I'm binging your stuff

This is definitely a step-up from _Okaeri._ Not that I didn't enjoy the aforementioned game's atmosphere of dread and lo-fi realism, but this game has the same qualities and a much more compelling narrative. The uncanny events in _Okaeri_ felt like they were being plucked out of nowhere, whereas the paranormal and inauspicious things in this game carefully built a sense of supernatural threat. Great find Gab! :3

I just found only 2 uploaders from Niconico who posted this game. One luckily with good ending, and the other bad.
But none of them covered the blood part on the wall and I was disappointed. So I searched in UA-cam in curiosity.
Now I see your video and was surprised that the room was much darker and creepier than the Japanese videos’ one when you entered. Possibly even the street. Which makes it harder to recognize things. Maybe it was updated? Or just language version difference? I don’t know. (They were uploaded November)
@ One thing is in the reflection in the mirror, door is still closed in the mirror even if you don’t close the door like @. I don’t think that was intended lol.
@ It looks like the order you find the memos doesn’t matter. You will read the texts in the same order anyhow.
@ the memo’s content changed quite bit. For example, in Japanese his mom says ‘be quiet’ instead of sitting. The protagonist’s name ‘Sayaka’ is not displayed in there either. She is only referred as あいつ.
@ It was closer to ‘I won’t let you escape’ in original, giving more impression that the evil one is specifically telling Sayaka directly all or sudden.
39:00 the part where even Sayaka is forgetting about him doesn’t exist in the original. She keeps it her secret.
Anyhow you checked the game’s details a way better than those guys, who were focusing more on talking and appealing how scared they were. I didn’t know you could investigate the stopped clock. Unfortunately the bloody wall wasn’t really that much different though lol

It would be interesting if the girl (was it "Sayaka"?) in this game was actually the same one in Okaeri. Like shortly after this is when they move and then the events of Okaeri happen. She's constantly followed by bad luck and she doesn't even remember. Or this is like her reincarnation and second chance at life after the events of Okaeri. Or a parallel universe. IDK I just like that they used the same voice actress so that the games could potentially be a part of an expanded universe. Kinda like Cyan sometimes hints at with Shikiyoku and Tsugu No Hi where there are sometimes background references to each other.
    Yeah, I'm just rambling now.
But thanks for being that awesome niche LPer that brings me original content I actually enjoy. It's a shame more of these games aren't brought to the english-speaking audience, they have a unique feel to them that I think a lot of people would appreciate. Not everybody. A lot of LPers just exist to scream and overreact, of course. But I'm sure there are some out there - kinda like John and Sinnow etc. - that could really get into these games if they were in their language. Eh, a monolingual can dream...

You take very long strides outside, and land with heavy, flat footfalls. I guess you're a really big gal!
Reflections are very processor intensive. I don't know when this game was made, but it almost makes me think there's some very clever reverse image-mapping going on rather than true reflections. However, it's a beautifully rendered game, at least inside the apartment. Maybe the dev is a real-world architect!

I think the reason it's so creepy is because it's way too realistic looking; I don't know how they make it, if they use real pictures to create the world or if they're great at creating assets but the VHS filter on top of it all plus the incredibly well designed lighting really makes everything look extremely real, almost tangible, so it feels too close to home, it feels like we could be in the game, like it's possible that it could happen to us, and I think it's especially scarier for us who grew up with VHS tapes, that sort of quality to them that the game emulates is something we're used to and understand really well, it's almost nostalgic in a scary way.
My only criticism is the loud noises, my tension left completely right after it, I was more shocked than scared. Having a noise during a jumpscare is find and all, like a piano note or something or the girl gasping and even banging her back against the door at the end out of shock at the end but a loud booming sound only works to get a quick reaction out of the player/viewer, it doesn't give a lasting impression like all of the terror moments the game had to offer such as the guy standing in the corner, right before you get to the umbrella, the guy watching you from his apartment... Otherwise the game is great, it's just the cheap loud sounds that bug me a bit as they always do.
On another note I'd love to live in an apartment like that minus the haunted part lol it looks run down from the outside and getting there is a huge pain but the inside is not only pretty it's extremely spacious, I'm jealous.

Reflected images in games: afaik, all reflections are made by duplicating the room and objects, there are no "actual" reflections.

    • @ganipra7402
      @ganipra7402 4 роки тому +3

Wrong. As indie dev i can tell you for mirror technic actually we (or the most of us) use another "moving camera" and show the result in mirror surface or anything.
You can google for example "unity mirror reflection" since unity is easier for small indie compare then ue4.
      But technic is still same.
      .
      Put that aside.
For the first, i think the developer game ignoring/lazy make perfect reflection because it only make another work. and the result is not so important.
But when she get the 5th paper. And suddenly there are mirror in the room. Now im sure that game dev on purpose to make those reflection. To show that the door is closed. (Signing to player as narative story that there are no way to escape??)
