    Great video! I picked up an 05 a few months ago and love it. How do you like the led gauge bulbs while riding daytime and night? Not overpowering at night? And how is the coverage of the bulbs? Just looks to me that the top of the speedo is a little darker

    • @mikesfjrcorner7129
      @mikesfjrcorner7129  4 роки тому +2

      Hello, glad your liking the bike!
      The LED indicators in daytime are great, no problems seeing, especially the turn signals. On mine they were dark and I had trouble seeing them and wound up always leaving them on.
      At night the gauges are brighter. I prefer them a little brighter as I have had surgery in both of my eyes to replace the lens due to cataracts. With more light I get less glare. Wierd!
      I changed the gauge face plates the same time I installed the LED's, so I don't know how even the LED's would be with the stock gauge face. They should be more even with the OEM face plates. The replacement gauge face plates that I have that are in the video do not have a gradient painted on the back side to even out the light. That's why they look uneven. However, the OEM face plates do have a gradient painted on the back to even out the light. So, they should look more even with the OEM plates. The led's also brighten the LCD panel and that I know looks even.
      Hope this helps. Thanks

    Mike, great video. I have a question about the gauge face kit that you bought from the company in Poland. I have a 2005 FJR as well. I noticed on the kit for the 2003 to 2005 that you purchased, the tach gauge face has a hole with a key symbol next to it in the lower right. Is this being used? There’s no such hole or symbol on the stock tach gauge. The 2001 to 2002 kit does not have the hole and key symbol on the tach. I’m wondering if this is the better kit. They look exactly the same except for the hole and symbol. Thanks.

    • @mikesfjrcorner7129
      @mikesfjrcorner7129  4 роки тому

      Hello. No the american version of the bike does not have the hole.
      At the time, I never noticed that there was a different kit. So yes, go with the kit without a hole.
      However, inside the gauge there are holes on the PC board for a LED. So, I just soldered in a LED into the holes. It's not actually connected to anything on the PCB and it is not functional, so orientation is not critical. It's just there to fill the hole. Take notice in the video I have a clear LED in the hole.
      Hope this helps.

      www.amazon.com/Kukakoo-Holder%E4%B8%A8Universal-Adjustable-Motorcycle-Smartphones/dp/B0839JB77V/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=x-grip+phone+mount+usb&qid=1588725963&sr=8-4
      The difference to mine is the charger port is external behind the x-grip instead of inside the x-grip.
      The mount shown, mounts to the clutch lever assembly. There is a plug on the assembly on top, right behind the clamp to the handlebars. Remove this plug. It's threaded for a bolt. This clutch lever assembly is used on other model bikes and the hole would normally be used to mount a mirror. I used a black chrome screw in it so it matched the bike.
      Also, here is a link to the official RAM mount. This mount does not have a USB charger. www.amazon.com/RAM-MOUNTS-RAP-HOL-UN7B-201U-Universal-X-Grip/dp/B00DUK0SZO/ref=sxbs_sxwds-stvp?cv_ct_cx=X-Grip+Motorcycle&dchild=1&keywords=X-Grip+Motorcycle&pd_rd_i=B00DUK0SZO&pd_rd_r=f47ad2e6-2dc9-4a01-83de-e82dc14abce7&pd_rd_w=qc0p8&pd_rd_wg=QVWQo&pf_rd_p=183579a1-f0e6-4556-8e39-8fe08e8f8141&pf_rd_r=GW98M1KDJ58YX1V39XBJ&psc=1&qid=1588727451&sr=1-53-dd5817a1-1ba7-46c2-8996-f96e7b0f409c&swrs=364F575FF280008413386F6E27C4E9CC

      Hello, check the fuse block under the left fairing panel . Make sure all fuses are good and tight. There is a plug on the back of the display cluster that could have a bad connection. If fuses are good try moving the wires under the tank towards the front of the bike. Maybe a bad connection would show itself. Also, it could be that all the bulbs are bad.

      Looking at the schematic going to the display cluster, there is voltage coming from the ignition fuse. This voltage goes to many things, so other symptoms would show if this was missing. A curious thing is there is a voltage coming from another fuse called backup. Whatever that means. This voltage only goes to the display cluster and the windshield motor.
      Hope this helps.

      Hello, it's "FJR1300 2005 Gen I Vibration, Adjust Engine Balancers, Clean Throttle Body & Replace Seals. (PART 1)". Here's the Link to the Video: ua-cam.com/video/LUN3-tBRx3M/v-deo.html
      Here is the text from the service manual ("Tighten the balancer shaft to the specified torque by turning it counterclockwise, and then turn it one scale back on the balancer lever scale. Start the engine and check that there is no abnormal noise coming from the balancer
      gear. If noise is abnormal, adjust the gear lash by turning the balancer shaft.").
      The torque is 0.4 Nm. That's a light pressure counterclockwise then turn one line back.
      Since I made the video I have readjusted the balancer about 1.5 lines from the tight position instead of 1 line. I was getting a noise from the balancer so I backed it off by a half a line.
      Hope this helps, Thanks.

    • @mikesfjrcorner7129
      @mikesfjrcorner7129  5 років тому +3

      Thank you! I'm trying, I'm not the best speaker... I did it a part of a longer service.
      Should be able to do it in a afternoon.
      Things that have to come off: L-R fairing, all black fairing pieces (upper and lower), Mirrors, windshield, windshield mount, and of course the nose fairing itself. The display console is held on by screws from the back of the display.
      Place the meters on a clean towel, remove the screws holding the face plastic on. use 2 spoons on each side of the needle's center to pop off the needle and unscrew the face plates. Make sure you replace the needle in the same position and don't turn the shaft. Put it all back together.
      Do not over tighten the plate as I did. The plate must get heated and the plastic bulged around the screw.
      This would be a good time to replace the turn signal relay with a solid state relay for LED Turn signals in the future. I replaced my relay, but I have not changed the bulb's yet.
      There's a lot to do but if you take it slow, it's not bad.
      I may be making a video on installing HID's this summer. I will have to show how to take the fairing off to create a mounting place for the HID ballast.
      Hope this helps :~)

      Hello Mr Thomas, I bought my '05 FJR Aug '20. I would like to caution you on one very important part that you should replace IMMEDIATELY and that is the cam chain tensioner. The first gens (01-05) have weak springs from the factory and can break thus destroying the engine. You can inspect the CCT to see if it has already been replaced, will have either a blue or a green dot on it, by gently lifting up the rubber trim on the right side of the gas tank near the seat and frame. Then use a flash light to look directly at the CCT for the dot. I didn't get hard on mine until I had it replaced as mine was owned by a 72 year old man that never got on it hard. If you need pics to help show where to look, let me know, and we can figure out how to make it happen. I also replaced the weak rear spring assembly with a 2016 rear spring assembly and has made a MAJOR difference, as well as installing RaceTech front springs for my weight. The bike fells much more planted. These three things are the common complaints for the first gen.

    Hi Mike,
    The modifications you have made to your Gen 1 FJR are extremely similar to what I’m after! (I have the exact same bike)
    Please could you help me with 2 things?
    I’d love to know what the specific bulbs are called for the instrument cluster panel and turn signals please as it would help me find them on the website you have mentioned.
    Additionally, where did you get the new Speedo dials? Your new ones really have improved the look of the dash!

      Hello, check the description section of this video. It has the LEDs used and where to get them. The links for the dial plates are also in the description. There from Poland. Yes the original dial plates in my opinion were ugly. They also had bubbles in the paint.
      I also soldered a clear led into the circuit board to fill the hole in the lower part of the tach plate. It's just a dummy led, it does not light up.
      It's for a factory security system that's in the UK bike that we in the US don't have. The circuit board does have the traces for it without the components. No worries on which direction the led goes, just solder it to the height needed.
      If you replace the plates, use two spoons under the needle to get it off without troubles. Make sure the shaft does not turn and replace the needle in the exact same position. You may want to do a test run with a gps to verify speed before reassembling the front of the bike. Note these plates are plastic, don't over tighten the screws. I made that mistake. Over time the plastic rippled slightly around the screws probably from engine heat.
      Thanks Mike.
