This is the most tender and heartfelt love song, not just from the '70s, but of all time! My favourite line is; "She's got beautiful teeth, a toothpaste ad man's dream". 'The Bard' himself would have been proud of that. The melodic score and poignant, beautifully written lyrics make it so mellifluous that I have it quite loud. Sometimes my ears bleed!
Knocked "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison off the top of the charts in February 1971. Deserved to be there. I saw Mungo Jerry in the Croydon Cartoon in 1989 and they do an excellent live show. This one probably doesn't get played a lot on radio now because of the line "you can bet your life I'll attack" in particular but then again in "In the Summertime" have a drink and a drive" was encouraged.
"I don't care where she's been", yeah we've all felt like that at some time. Great un PC lyrics, to Hell with how it looks now just enjoy the rawness of that much maligned decade, the 1970s.
@@vlaydes4635 Black Sabbath, for one. Coven for another. Arthur Brown for another. These three were all around in the late 60s and early 70s, and they all made an impact on hard rock and metal. And even before them, Screamin Jay Hawkins had an influence on theatrical of shock rock.
@@vlaydes4635 Depends on what you want. Arthur Brown’s “Fire” and Coven’s “Wicked Woman” are more psychedelic and pagan rock, Black Sabbath is full on heavy metal. My favourite Sabbath songs are “Paranoid” and “The Mob Rules”.

They were brilliant, but, you must be forgetting, Walter Murphy and the Big Apple Band "A Fifth of Beethoven", Raiders "Indian Reservation", Middle of the road "Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep", The Poppy Family - "Which Way You Goin', Billy?" (of course, I jest.) or even, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Status Quo, Queen, Slade, etc. etc..

Those screams!! My sis in law went out with Mungo Jerry's bassist John Godfrey who was an absolute scream
Mungo was in dad's senior class at spelthorn manor

Wonderfully raunchy lyrics and a driving rock riff, fucking excellent.

Wow wow wow - not only "Summertime" at every time...
omg this is definitely an ancestor of "hard" rock or metal
Unlikely, because heavy metal was already around at this point.
@@JimmySteller Howdy, all right I'm interested, what bands are you referring to

If i see her tonight you can bet your life I'll attack....Jack the Ripper?

I suspect this could very well be a pointless answer on Pointless.
