Beautiful trees. Neighborly gatherings. Quaint old houses... Lots of potential, that's for sure. Good to see kids at that community center with the volleyball courts. I've always wanted to move back home to Jax.... its just not safe anymore though. Too many random shootings. Right before I moved away in 2014, I was in Regency mall & caught in the crossfire of a shootout between some very young kids... luckily, I didn't get hit, but a lady behind me did, and there was blood all over. 14 yr Olds arguing over something stupid. But, back in the 80's, Jacksonville was epic... amazing place to grow up
I lived in Jacksonville when I first moved to Florida for a year. I rented an entire home for $650 a month. It's a rough neighborhood, but unless you're looking for trouble most people just mind their business. I used to walk to the gym and work, morning and night never had any trouble. My neighbors got used to me and it was somewhat homelike after awhile.
That's not so bad ..at least they have green trees and shrubs with wildlife unlike some of the other places you've shown us.. looking like a nuclear winter wasteland 😅😅😅

I read some of the comments and people are saying that it's not safe so I'm not romanticising it but if you look at some of the streets in rich neighbourhoods - empty, high fences, neighbours don't know each other and don't care who lives in the castle next door (Bishop's Avenue here in London for example)... Compared to that these streets are full of life like 1:43 whilst those sparkling ones are lifeless and disconnected. Tnx Charlie.
This area is Called Durkeeville off Myrtle Ave. if you would have continued down 6th street towards the highway and the Reed Center you would see the old Sandstill creek where they still have African American Headstones Dated back to the late 1800’s /Early 1900’s back in the wooded area of the park.This area is historic to the HOOD and the Rec center was built on top of many old graves. Also there is a man buried on the sidewalk named Thomson and he was killed protecting a white woman in the early 1900’s. The city protects the gravesite like a landmark.

You should've seen Shannon Ridge before they shut it down, off of Shenandoah St, I'm a native to Jax, had to pick someone up from there I couldn't even get out the car. Not really that bad. I grew up in the Bronx in the 1980s. Lots of burned out buildings, rubble and ruined streets. Some places it was hard to drive thru. Streetlights didn't work. Fire hydrants didn't work. Burned out cars on the side of the road. These neighborhoods in Jax would have been luxury housing back then. Parts of Detroit and Gary Indiana are what the Bronx was back then. They are the real hellholes.

Jacksonville also has the advantage of size over Chicago, for example. You can fit two and a half Chicagos in Jax. It's more spread out, without people stacked on top of each other.
