Shen and Lao would be so cool to see lumbering around in the distance in Wilds. Imagine the improved weather shrouding Shen in a fog that it’s massive legs appear from to strike at the hunter.
I actually had a fan made monster for a pistol shrimp. One claw is the pistol. The other is long and thin pincers. Ironically, a pirate, lol. But he will use his pistol claw as a club and his pincers as a sweep or poke weapon. The pistol claws shoot attack is also like teostras super never bot reversed. You can hear the thumb hammer click. Once you do, he shoot attack is now an option. Once used, it'll take a bit before you hear the click again.
I remember there was a talk on Carapaceons in a Ragegaming comment thread. I don't remember the specifics on my idea on the Mantis Shrimp equivalent . . .
They cooked so hard with Rustrazor, probably my favourite deviant. This video make me realize how much I adore Shogun Ceanataur, like that guy’s actually so cool. Once again, awesome vid.
When I first fought Daimyo in Rise/Break I was super excited to see that they fixed him. In previous games it was very rare to use Sonic bombs on him during his Hiding Phase because he either wouldn’t do it, or would come out so fast it wasn’t worth sheathing for. In my first fight against him in Rise I used all the Sonic bombs given to you in the box during the hunt and it felt great to fight him in a way that engaged with his full moveset. The crabs always been fun for me, but now they’ve gotten so much better.
I NEED more videos like this. Just talking about stuff, about colours and behaviours and designs and the section about the gear especially tickles me. Happy to be a Patron!
43:15 I used to have the same thought-process about Daimyo until i recently watched its ecology video, where felynes try to cut the blos horn, in the end the Daimyo wakes up but for some reason he took the most "standing up" stance we ever seen and the dude is threatening as f in that pose he looks taller than my house ! Just to say that i wished crabs were taller than wider
I enjoy the crabs, they’re far from my favorite monsters, but they take to me what is one of the core appeals of Monster Hunter, just taking every day animals, and exploring them and making them larger than life itself. And the notion of both Daimyo and Shogun wearing Monster Skulls like hermit crabs with shells? Super unique and iconic! And of course THE GIANT ENEMY CRAB. Also when are we gonna get a Lobster monster? That feels like a no brainer.
Crabs, bugs, and spiders are among my favorite monsters in the series. They have so much unique character to them that wyverns and beasts don't have. Not to say wyverns and beasts don't have character, they do, it's just that the arthropods are so different.
I remember when Sunbreak confirmed that A Fan Favorite monster return and it was Shogun I Remember a Good amount of people where Slightly Disappointed (Even tho Shogun Was the Winner of the Old Monster that got a Deviant in Generation Ultimate) so Shogun is a Fan Favorite monster
The crabs are excellent and a welcome edition of any roster in any game, I'd personally love for daimyo to have more shell variety like shogun and for the plum and terra subspecies to be reworked and rare random colour morpths and seeing a small plum hermitar would be cute, I'm also crossing my fingers for shen gorean in wilds, he'd be great in a open world game just walking by The carapaceons are also in desperate need of some new members, they seem to represent crustaceans and scorpion and with that there's a lot you could do, pom pom and decorator crabs, crabs with more asymmetric designs, underwater crabs, mantis and Pistal shrimps, proper scorpion and mabye sea scorpion or vinegaroon are all great options, loads of untapped potential
Shen Gaoren's armor and weapons are based ancient Japanese clay art from the Jomon period (14,000 to 400 BC). The armor especially is based on dogu; little clay figurines. If you've even seen the Pokemon Baltoy and Claydol, they're based on dogu as well!
The apology after those tier list videos 😂 I'm not really a fan of real life crabs, like, i don't hate them but they're just there, monster hunter makes me appreciate them, they are really cool. P.d hermitaur female armor my beloved

When he played the intro quest to Sunbreak and fought Daimyo his excitement about the fact that he was fighting a big crab cannot be overstated.
As someone who started with Wold, we absolutely need more monsters that aren't some variant of "wyverns" more crabs, more spiders, GIVE US A REAL SNAKE CAPCOM STOP BEING COWARDS. Rise brought in all the crabs (bedsies the big dude) and I hope that wilds has some of the other non wyvers and maybe a new carapaceon
Volcanic I love your videos and i'm really excited for this one (crab!) but I think you might need to adjust your volume levels :p the music is a solid 5x louder than your voice thank you for everything
1:19:13 I find this a bit funny cause there are a bunch of fun little custaceans they can use. Mantis shrimps have 3 main types: Spear, hammer, hatchet. That alone can create 3, 2 or 1 monster depending on how the devs decide how to use them. I would love to see a decorator crab who like narkakos uses monster parts for combat but they are attached to its body by its hair like structures so you can knock them off for a reward of the part and reducing the crab’s moves. Things like that would be fun to add as custaceans are again very diverse. It just depends on how they are used. Pom pom crabs for example would be quite the treat seeing a massive one that uses other monsters like those pangolin like critters in the wild trailers would be amazing to see
Crabs were always my favorite monsters because they had more movement options that werent just charging forward or flying. Being able to make up for some blind spots was always great. Rustrazor definitelya standout for being such a good concept of range and melee mode thats all on a timer. Edit: damn surprised you only talked about the just designs of the armor and weapons and not the skills and other things. Not everyone remembers how rustrazor weapons had so much white sharpness that people regularly dropped razor sharp (heresy for most oldgen games) just because.
Yea I agree with your point on their movement pattern. I'm a fiverr and the first time I met Daimyo on Sunbreak, I was surprised with its movements because I forgot that CRABS CAN WALK SIDEWAYS

I really dig them. The body form of crabs and insects are already so unlike mammals, that you don’t need to design much to make them interesting. And they already come with weapons! I wish they’d come back, just for the sake of variety. Shen gaoren was also a step up for giant battles from Lao Shan lung.
I want to see a crab that uses steam and when enrage their armor turning red from the hot steam but after it cools down it cooler returns back to normal.
Shogun should have really been in 3U The flooded forest fits it sooooo well. And they were open to revamp aquatic monsters too, they added plesioth afterall.
Im surprised Monster Hunter never collabed with the Patapon series Like Ciokina and Cioking are consistently amongst the hardest bosses to fight; cuz theyre resilient to stagger, can inflict immobilizing bubbles and have devastating claw swipes(basically oneshots)
Really do hope that Wilds will expand on the Carapaceons with some new base species. It is one of the few catagories with more subspecies and variants than base species. Personally I am really big on the idea of doing something with those giant deep sea Isopods. I bet you could make one twisted giant pillbug with one of those.
