22:39 Fun fact! That same guy has a Patreon where you can get custom-made instruction sets for building LEGO Monster Hunter monsters! Really great stuff!
Back in Gen 1, going to maps in order to farm items was very common. I spent so many hours roaming Forest & Hills, (old) Jungle, and (old) Swamp casually gathering items and taking in the aesthetics. In 2004, there weren't many games that had such a profound sense of place as Monster Hunter. I always dreamed of seeing them become seamless.
As I said, I think a few gen 1 maps got topped in gen 2 with better layouts and use of assets but there is some pretty good stuff in there. Old Swamp's aesthetics especially
People might say reusing the maps is lazy, but remaking it in the new engines and updated designs to fit the game like in rise is really neat. I personally would love a moga woods updated map. Tri was my first MH and i’ll always view it as a favorite and have alot of nostalgia for it
i think every map deserves a chance at a glow up but the maps i would love to see modernized graphically at least, are Frozen Seaway, Gen 3 Tundra, Gen 3 Volcano, Misty Peaks, Ancestal Steppe, Sunken/Volcanic Hollow, Dunes, Gen 2 Swamp, Gen 1 Jungle, and Verdant Hills I know it’s a lot but all of these maps are good to me or need a little improving.
Before Rise was a thing, I kept having these weird dreams where I was in a open world-like version of the Sandy Plains and Flooded Forest. Tri was my first MH game so those maps were kinda my favorites, so glad they returned in Rise and made my dream come true. The other map I had dreams about though?...Tundra. lol
31:48 these vertical hallways were actually meant for Yamatsukami. In Dos you fought it while ascending the tower, so it was more like the Fortress for Lao Shan Lung.
I think the map I would love to see get revamped the most out of all the old maps is the tower. It is my favorite old map in the series, and we already got a taste of that when they brought back the Forlorn Arena in Sunbreak anyway. But after that, the Ruined Pinnacle would be a nice map to revamp as well
One I'd kill for is the Highlands from Frontier. The high rank highlands theme has to be my favorite area theme right besides the 3rd gen tundra and the highland's aesthetic is just magnificent! I wrote this before even watching the video and hearing you mention the Gorge Painted Waterfalls could also be amazing. I'd love to fight Mizutsune with the waterfalls as a backdrop.
I’d love to see Verdant hills return in an anniversary type game. It’s the first map ever and it may be simple but it’s really good (area 9 not withstanding). Speaking of area 9, If V.hills were to return, I really hope they expand the forested areas as they’re the biggest issue with the map as of now. I’d also love to see Primal Forest and Jurassic Frontier return, but that is 100% my biases talking lol they’re my two favourite maps.
If Forest and Hills is remade I hope some of the E3 areas ua-cam.com/video/hxqZlFE22Ps/v-deo.htmlsi=Sh8za_1hM6tiRWa1 and a lake area based on the MH Intro areas would be included as it would be a great way to try and recreate the original game along with being able to recreate the opening cutsceen from the original game in a new game.
With the water stuff in Wilds I'm almost hoping the next anniversary game will bring water combat back too, hopefully they focus on overhauling old maps over adding new ones as well, maybe bringing back some of the underrated monsters like Gammoth
Painted waterfalls, Jurrasic frontier, misty peaks, D Island, and despite being one of the most recent added Shrine Ruins would all be maps I'd love to see get the gen 6 redesign. Shrine Ruins specifically because with the leap in tech and much vaster map size they could go all out with the whole "a part of this map was previously old Kamura before getting decimated and now this area jas been overtaken by nature and feels haunted" vibe. Could even make it more eerie like the concept art with dynamic weather and large bamboo blocking out the sky in certain areas. We don't get many eerie feeling maps in MH anymore and i think Shrine Ruins has the potential to do it best.
This is my favorite channel. I love how you can just delve into so much detail in just about any topic. I see so many top 10s or tier lists that are less than 10 mins long. Your lists are always very thorough. I don’t have to question why you feel a certain way at all.
Appreciate it! and I fell the same way about some similar stuff I see like this on UA-cam as well. Not to throw shade but I very much prefer elaboration and details with these types of things
I would give anything to reintroduce the original Forrest and Hills and Tower in modern graphics and detail we get in the series now. Those two to me feel like the most perfect mix of the very down to earth and humble feel of one map, to then be immediately juxtaposed with the Tower having an enormous air of mysticalness to its existence and what it means for the greater world of Monster Hunter. Now, GU’s take on the Forrest and Hills was still good, but something similar to the feel of the Shrine Ruins would go a long way of deepening my love for the first map we traverse in the first Monster Hunter game. That’s just my two thoughts on those, there’s so much that can be said about all the maps both on this video and that went unmentioned, but if I had to pick my top two, it’d be them. Cheers Connor.
I think maps like Gen3 Volcano and Frozen Seaway have a lot of potential for utilizing the new weather mechanics Wilds is bringing. I can imagine icestorms raining down and creating new ice hazards along the walls and overhangs in the Seaway, while the Volcano can have periods of eruption that drop lava meteors from the sky and spread poisonous soot in the air.
A pair of maps that I really adore are the Sunken Hollow and Heaven's Mount from MH4, they both give off a really unique vibe that a lot of other maps don't have as much. Sunken hollow especially being almost entirely underground is really cool, I'd love to see a new cave map in the series, really give some of the cave monsters a chance to shine again. Heaven's mount is a pretty nontraditional as far as mountain maps go in the series, it almost feels like the rocks are floating in some zones, and the way they tumble down around you in the background is really cool too, i also like the small forest area at the base of the mountain, not to mention that its the home map of Seltas Queen, which is my favorite monster.
My favorite old school maps are the Frozen Seaway and the Ruined Pinnacle. I don’t think the latter would work well without loading screens but I would love to see the former reimagined. It’s got a great atmosphere, monster roster and theme. Yay, both of my favorite made it on the list. I’m still a little iffy on if the Ruined Pinnacle could convey it‘s sense of immense height without loading screens and without taking forever to climb but I would certainly love to see them try. The Frozen Seaway is just gorgeous and I totally agree that it should have more frozen seaway.
@@G1eatShad0w Frozen Seaway is the most beautiful snowy area in all of MH for me, glad it got in the list. Would love to see the Whirlpool and the giant, almost "black-hole looking" area 4 at the top in HD.
Before watching the video my #1 is the Ancestral Steppe. Mostly because its my favourite MH map, but also because it has a ton of verticality. It almost feels like a Rise map already, lol. Hell, I could even see it transformed into a World style map with some new zones added. It's a beautiful area and I'd love to see it return.
Painted Falls looks really pretty in a Spyro or Rayman or Nokstella from Elden Ring kinda way, I can see it becoming really beautiful. That blue skybox is incredible, it's disney af. I think if it could also go to a bright pinky purply indigo sometimes I'd love that too.
I would love to see Heaven's Mount remade- however, I dont think they'd ever give it a chance unless they brought back The Frenzy (as its the location of the Sanctuary), or Dalamadur and the Speartip Crag (since Dalamadur's great blades are what carved the mountain to pieces). It's got a sense of height that I've yet to see beat, *except* for maybe Ruined Pinnacle.
YES, my beloved Old Swamp is in here! Overall my top 10 is almost identical, I would just replace the Forest and Hills (because idk I've never liked this map a lot, I find it pretty boring outside the nice vibes of area 7,10,11,12) with the Primal Forest. The Scarlet Forest is pretty similiar to it, so It's not like I need to see the Primal one anytime soon, but I love the overall vibes of this map full of ENORMOUS bones and skeletons, with the poison pools and the stormy upper areas (yes I love dark cloudy/stormy/rainy weather in general). But the real map I would love to see the most is: Jurassic Frontier. Personally, while I'm a huge fan of the map in general, with the giant fossils in area 3 and overall cool vegetation across the map, I think the areas 9, 10 and 11 are what make this one of if not MY FAVOURITE map ever. The plants in area 11 are magnificient to look at but the absolute peak is area 10, ESPECIALLY at night! That area, with the light blue glowy plants (black/very dark blue with bright glowy light blue is my favourite color combination, this is why Abyssal Lagiacrus is my fav monster), the very cool and relaxing background sound, the Shen Gaoren thingy and of course, DARK CLOUDS, is the most beautiful area I've ever seen in not only monster hunter, but literally everything, kinda sad that I never hear anybody talk about area 10 of the Jurassic Frontier. I would love to see that glorious area in HD. Honorable mention to Sunken Hollow which is also one of coolest looking locales in all gaming.
If this was a top 15 Jurassic Frontier and Primal Forest probably would have made the list. Primal was on there for a little bit actually but I felt like there were other maps that needed the face lift a bit more, and a few 4th gen maps I enjoyed a little more
here are my thoughts on your ideas of remaking the maps (and i'll add that they must be bigger): 10) Ancestral Steppe. fully agreed of adding a wooded area - because the wooded area we *did* get doesn't feel like - nor looks like - a forest. 9) Deserted Island/Moga Woods. i'd have kept the name of "Moga Woods". yes, we're in GU, but it's still in Moga's area; and the island isn't "deserted", but rather well-inhabited. and i agree with increasing the size of the forest. it's the map's namesake, and it's just 1 area? even the Hoarfrost Reach has more forest than this! 7) Frozen Seaway. come to think of it, you're right: there's only one area that is exactly what the name of that map advertizes. that would mean that we need about a couple more monsters to take advantage of the frozen water (as in dig under the ice and swim in the frigid water beneath), because Zamtrios alone wouldn't be enough, if the area would get much bigger. 5) Old Swamp. the only thing i'd do is expand the swampy areas by a lot; the forested areas can remain as they are, but with some extra foliage. if the map is both a forest and a swamp, then it's a HUGE bonus, in my book. the only thing it'd need is a good monster selection. we'd also be able to traverse the background of the swampy areas, as well as the swamp itself (including the one in the camp). the swampy areas would have water as deep as the Flooded Forest: shallow enough to walk in, but deep enough for water monsters to swim in. i've had this idea of a fire-breathing Leviathan, but let me generalize: Leviathans would slither around the trees, blasting you with their breath attack, while you dodge and weave between them; and they'd outrun and outmaneuver you in the water, effectively trapping you and keeping you on your toes. what i've suggested applies to the Marshlands, since they're basically the same map. if we indeed get a remake of the Old Swamp/Marshlands (preferably the former), then the monsters that *should* appear are: Yian Garuga, Espinas (Paratoads, Poison Toads, and similar prey), Chameleos (the fog), Leviathans (if they're well-designed, plus the one i've suggested), and Jyuratodus - because he is what maps like the Old Swamp are missing: a monster that takes *FULL* advantage of the water and mud (Almudron doesn't aesthetically fit, so he's out of the question) - and a fish monster, no less. throw Jyuratodus a bone, for once. 3) Tower. my idea for remaking it would be to expand the areas outside the tower: make it a wide open space with a few trees and bushes scattered around, and just a few steps away is a forest where prey can retreat to. the tower itself is where things get pretty good: outside is a ruined fort wall, with Ballistae and Cannons inside the courtyard; and inside the tower is a flooded basement for Leviathans, crumbling architecture for monsters like Rajang to swing and climb around (like that area with pillars in MH4U's Everwood), an opening high up in the structure is where Flying Wyverns make their home... and the top - previously known as the Tower Summit - is where powerful monsters like Lucent Nargacuga, Molten Tigrex, Flaming Espinas, and Elder Dragons dwell. the siege weapons? it's because the Tower would be the map that powerful monsters like Lucent Nargacuga, Molten Tigrex, Flaming Espinas, and Elder Dragons tend to visit ferquently, if not claim it as their turf; and it's because we have the Battlequarters, which even have a Dragonator. since i had in mind of merging the Tower and Tower Summit into one map, i thought of making those poweful monsters move around the map, instead of sticking to the top (only with poweful monsters like White Fatalis would the summit become a semi-separate map). 2) Forest and Hills (aka Verdant Hills). i want both this map and the Old Swamp to come back. it'd be nice to go back to basic maps, for once. we came back to the Jungle, so why not these two? moving on, i agree with your idea of remaking the map... but i have things to add: the remade Forest and Hills would have you fight in between the bushes and trees, and in a similar fashion to what i've suggested before, Leviathans like the fire-breather i had in mind could just slither around each tree as they try to blast you with their breath attack, while you duck for cover behind one of said trees. the Leviathans and raptors could also take advantage of the bushes scattered around the woods, waiting for their chance to strike. SunRise made us capable of traversing the trees of the Flooded Forest and scale the cliffs of the Sandy Plains. in other words, SuniRise made the background explorable, which we couldn't do before. why not take advantage of this, and have the woods of the Forest and Hills and Old Swamp traversable? these are the maps i want to see remade (and made bigger), other than the Forest and Hills and Old Swamp: *Arctic Ridge.* the snowy parts of the map can be improved; that's all i can say. the secret area would be reachable, but hard to get to, and would have a Kushala Daora's molted skin. i'm effectively saying that i want the Arctic Ridge's secret area to be like the Hoarfrost Reach's. the real reason are the camp, Area 1 and Area 2. i want to be able to fight monsters in Area 2 and a new, pretty big wooded area that would be just to the left of camp (because camp is the only wooded area of the map, right now). *Fortress.* this is so that we could fight Lao Shan Lung - with the ideas *you* came up with - and my addendums, breath attack in particular (i'm convinced you recognize me for this). specifically, make the final area (now called Area 2, in GU) a fair bit bigger: have it be somewhat circular like it was FU, with a semi-circle wall connected to the fortress to attack the monster on multiple angles, keeping it busy and away from the fort itself. and have a bridge connect the two ends of the semi-circle wall, from which you can jump off and onto the monster's back - and keep the cannon on rails, with a tunnel on the left side of the wall to allow the cannon to travel in between zones.
I’m only 14 minutes into the video but you’ve fully convinced me the Gorge needs to return. I haven’t played frontier but that map looks like exactly what I want in a monster hunter level
I feel like they could expand the painted falls map and give it a big beach area to it that connects it to the ocean and if they do that they could give us some monsters from the coral highlands
When it comes to the tower. The ruins of the forlorn arena are very close to it so I feel like they could fuse the two and make the arena a huge ruin area that we could explore at the base of the tower
One pipe dream I have is that with how big the future maps may be if some maps may be combined together. Imagine if the polar sea from frontier got combined with the frozen seaway from 4. Do something like that with a bit of polish and expansion and you’ve got a massive connected ecosystem.
Watching this video really makes me remember when I played Generations Ultimate, having known Monster Hunter for a while but only having played Worlds before, because I do love all the locales they included from all the older titles. Its great.
I'd really like area 8/5 expanded in frozen seaway, into a proper super cold but not snowy flat kind of area. Patchy grass amidst the cracked mud. Stick wolfish things and elkish things and polar bear things there, i guess. Do still think they could extend area 2 out so far that it can hold a Ukanlos comfortably.
The two frontier maps you listed? Sounds like they could do well smashed together. Honestly what i want to see is a good Sandship map. Having Gore Magala ambush us in 4U on the boat was a really cool and desperate situation, and Dahren Moran made for a surprisingly effective movement tutorial. But give me scattered fortifications on islands around the map, like Kulve Taroth's map. Give the player the chance to steer the ship, drop off other players or NPCs on turret "islands", and give us a few minutes to prepare (or hit the gong to rush). Harpoon drag the monster into position, make it slam against walls and ruin our defenses. Then roar and create and sand whirlpool to drag us into caverns below for the real showdown.
I'm super glad i finally got to watch this video! I knew the concept would be great, but now i want sequel videos "i remade 10 more classic mh maps for modern generations" i could listen to this stuff twice over for every map weve had lmao
This is an amazing idea for a video and i've always been interested in hearin more about the frontier maps!! Unrelated but Volcanic if you ever made a (simple/basic) guide for new players in frontier I think many of us would appreciate it! Like getting it set up was easy enough but the game itself is so intimidating and you have a way of speaking that is incredibly digestible! :) you're the best as always
I love your list and the vid is anorther great subject. From the title alone, even before wathcing, I was thinking about the Snowy Mountains. The giant lake/river that could become a viable zone with underwater combat, maybe even travel to the cave system via underwater tunnels. The fisrt zone that could be flooded while the path to the caves and and the second zone turn into shores. Or the river could become partially frozen where monsters get trapped in between ice chunks, or you get drawn underwater and have to get to the shore for air The caves are enlarged so that monsters may fight everywhere and not only in the nest. The surperb mix of blue, violet and white for the Ice caves where Agnaktor and the cave dwellers would prey on the monsters taking cover frome the winds. The small streams flowing from the glaciers leading to the outside river. The back side of the mountain, where the camp is, truly becomes a forest and the caves now lead to this backside. The forest leads to a mountain side path large monsters like Gammoth can follow to reach the mountain top. It could be a slope allowing to to get down pretty fast by sliding. The mountain top doesn't really need changes as it's pretty good on its own, but I would make some walls climbable to get access to the glacier where Ukanlos rules alone. It could then become a nest to Elder Dragons Like Kushala and Velkhana.
Great list! I would nominate the Great Forest so that Nargacuga can have his signature habitat back and, this time, give him more environment interactions. Narga deserves to get the same kind of things that Barioth got in Tri and Odogaron got in World. I think there's a lot of really cool things they could do with the giant trees to introduce verticality to what was once a mostly flat map. I'm talking about some Disney Tarzan shit with winding tree branches in a whole canopy layer up above the forest floor! Imagine Narga jumping out at you from across trees and landing precisely on the branches. One wrong step and you fall down to the forest floor where he can mercilessly snipe you with his tail spikes! I also would nominate the Tundra. I think the Frozen Seaway is overall superior to it, but the cave systems were really cool in Tri with the dynamic lighting. I hope we can see something like it come back where we have dark caves and creepy monsters lurking in the shadows. Sunken Hollow had that vibe but they didn't include the darkness.
Heaven's Mount is another good option for an incredible mountain as it is an area that was shaped by the travel of Dalamadur and has some interesting areas, like the nest in zone 8 that can be knocked off balance by monster attacks causing it to shift and tilt. Imagine it with the more modern destructibility of the maps and you could potentially have the nest full on fall from its perch. Plus the map is incredibly vertical giving many options for expansion of areas as you traverse ever upward.
Ok this is going to be interesting I will give my thoughts on it after I finish the video. Overall great video and I agree with what you're saying. I would love to see the frozen sea way updated and painted falls come to main line. An idea for the old swamp is make the fog super intense were you can barely see through it and can only make out the bare minimum of something afar where it has the feeling of mystery when you start looking for it, or going to the horror factor were entering the fog you get completely loss and the map itself is useless at that point. This could be something really neat. Plus making it Chamelos home territory would fit perfectly then as it's a by product of it living their. Otherwise great video and I can't wait to see everyone else's ideas of possible updating the maps.
I want deserted island with u defeated combat in Wilds expansion Fighting diablos in that gorge would be pretty awesome. You could remake the old swamp and keep it pretty flat. Make it fun by adding a lot of hard to find secrets or secret items. Lots of little nooks and crannies hard to get to with gathering spots or lore related almost Easter egg like things to find. MH1 forest and hills is what hooked me on the series. As a kid playing a video game that felt similar to actually going out and exploring a realistic forest was amazing. Even back then I felt the core of MH - the living breathing ecosystem. I remember finally finding area 11/12 and defeating the bullfango then fishing in such a beautiful environment. That felt like the greatest secret achievement of my childhood gaming career.
Not gonna lie, when the team revealed they were not only remaking the MHDos/MHFU jungle but bringing back Espinas I actually started screaming. I legit thought I was dreaming because of how awesome it was. Nowadays, I would love to see the Gorge, Highlands, and Painted Falls areas from Frontier (ive been playing so much of the game lately). I think the vertically and implied detail of the areas could be expanded upon in a modern title. In terms of mainline areas, I am very particular to the 3rd gen maps. So a remade Tundra with expanded cave systems and 3rd gen Volcano with its various caverns and openings in the lava flows would be awesome. I miss the lush area just before the climb up the mountain, which one could say was done in rise with its volcanic map, but I personally believe it wasn't as well done.
Of these I'd say the ones I'd want back would be Painted Falls, Ancestral Steppe, Frozen Seaway and Tri Volcano, and, a Tower so adjusted it'd just be its own thing, doesn't need-to-need-to be The Tower at that point. Tri Volcano was indeed incredible, I think it would be harder for them to properly do it justice than the rest, they might make it too clean or too nacho, but worth a shot. I do want a swampy eerie marshland biome, but I'm thinking more, much more boggy. I think of Bogs against Rayman 3's Bog of Murk, what a Bog indeed. Maybe that wish could be reconciled with this, but something for everything creepy and murky, Gobul, a new Nibelsnarf subspecies maybe, Barlagual, Khezu, Gigginox, the new wormy lad from wilds, Almudron, Tetranodon, new frog lad, maybe an original new frog lad too, Astalos cos i think offsetting the atmosphere with fireflies would be nice. I don't think accosting the old swamp for my noticeably wetter wishes with shallow bits of above the water line land and lots of wading and deep puddles and parasites, leeches, is right. And I'd rather that than a drier old swamp, is what it comes to, maybe both in time, course. ...And i want Gogmazios there if possible. Could appear in different locations in different quests, really. The tower sounds cool but i want my abandoned presumably military structures to have busted up dangerous overgrown-with-nitroshrooms gunpowder storage, a defunct arena with a weak, busted dragonator, the last vestiges of a once thriving dockyard appended to it, even. A busted up library! Barracks and dormitories and war rooms and surgery rooms! It can't just be a tower with corridors, it needs extra side bits like these to tell me this was an operational site that had lots of stuff it needed to do to work.
For sure a map that REALLY needs a revamp ASAP is the Gen 2 Desert. That thing remained the same even in GU and traversing a giant flat zone for 1 minute just to reach another loading screen is NOT FUN. The Gen 1 desert when it got remade into Dunes at least got a bunch of new elements with the added verticality, but the Gen 2 desert is totally barebones. It has the same long boring walk problem as Marshlands, except worse since the zones are larger and the scenery repeats itself
I think for me the 10 areas, in no particular order, would be: Old Jungle (renamed Rainforest.) Old Swamp Forest and Hills Dunes Flower Field Old Volcano (Maybe I just want a MHG expansion idk the maps in it are fun.) Heaven's Mount Tide Island Tundra Tower (Dos/ Frontier Version) These maps would make for an amazing game alone. As they would have more then enough unique enviroments.
Old Swamp in MH 1 was amazing. Back when we used to get consistent and heavy snowfalls, the melting snow in spring would always turn the ground around here into a grassy, muddy mess. It would always remind me of the Old Swamp.
Garangolm lunagaron and malzeno all lurking in different wings of an expanded tower zone would be insanely cohesive design. White fatalis at the top as one of several end game monsters would also be epic. With setting camps in safe cutaway areas they could truly make it an expedition to the top where you have to set base camps at different levels and progress the tower as an actual endgame mechanic of its own.
I started MH with Iceborne, and MH4U is still my fav monster hunter to date. Ruined pinnacle is probably the coolest map for normal hunting but I feel it gets remade it needs to be in a portable type game like rise or GU, where it would fit in with the more flashy fantastical stuff portable games are known for
I forget the exact name of the map since it’s been awhile but I’d love the cave from 4U to get a remaster. I love how extremes the elevations are as you slowly descend deeper and deeper and I’d love to from base camp look down a mile of caves to the bottom
Gotta love how before Endemic Life, maps had the most regularass animals in the background! I've been playing GU and in Misty Peaks there's a turtle walking in the middle of area 1, and it's funny how low poly and stuttery she is!
I think the Old Jungle is in the best position to be remade. Back when I played MH1, it felt like the in-game map itself was but a small portion of a much bigger sparcer jungle. In my head, I thought the hunter was travelling long distances to get to the next zone. The map felt disconnected in a way. They could definitely make it 3 times larger than the Ancient Forest in World. Edit: 100% agree on the Old Swamp as well. That place had the vibes nailed to a T.
personally, I really want to see heaven's mount remade. it's my favourite map from 4U and I was so disappointed when it didn't return for generations. it's perhaps the most unique map in the series, other than the coral highlands and rotten vale. it's these crumbling ruins suspended by vines and rope to the side of a mountain, and you can just see these giant looming structures crumble around you. it's such an amazing aesthetic. I don't really see such a map working for a wilds type game, so I imagine it'd only return for a rise type of game. a game with mobility like rise would also be perfect for it due to the potential for verticality.
2 maps that I would really like to see expanded and remade in Wild are the 3rd gen Tundra and Frontier’s Polar sea. Imo they’re really cool, and i would love to explore the cold forests and howling caverns of the Tundra, with maybe a focus on the river we see from the camp or the mountains cliffs of the deviljho zone, and fight in the crevasses and scale the cliffs of Polar sea’s icebergs, with maybe underwater zone all around to fight all kind of monsters
@@cr-volcanic frozen seaway is really good, having all you'd want to see in an ice map, so I can see your point, but I just hope for a land/UW fight with Ukanlos and I think Polar sea would be the best map for it. That and Tundra is a bit underrated imo
YES to the Frozen Seaway! For an ice location it is beautiful with a wide coverage of height, slants, and design to put a handful of monsters! Plus its where I met my BOI Zamtrios for the first time :D
Oh, you know, while you talked about volcanoes, I just come to terrifying realisation.. If MH Wilds will have a volcano map, it probably won’t be an active volcano right from the get go, but it will probably have its ”unrest period” (like that base map have it’s thunderstorms) as a whole full scale apocalyptic eruption, Pompei style... Whith the whole map being turned into hellscape with fire literally raining from the sky and any remaining greenery being set ablaze, while herds of herbivores will run for their lives from all that fiery death, carnivore monsters will seek an opportunity to hunt or change their location to more safe spots of the volcano etc.. I really hope there’s be something like that in the game..
I would love to see Pokke snowy mountains from MHFU! i love how the first areas is the foot of the mountain, then as u go higher u come across small caves of ice until u reach the summit and at the very top lives the discarded exoskeleton of a Kushala! I've always loves this map particularly. Also i would also love to see the Great forest from frontier/Freedom unite, its where i met my biggest wall that allowed me to become much better as a hunter, the Nargacuga! its a special place for me
I doubt we will ever get old maps from team A, but, I can 100% see team B take a look back to these maps, and I would love to see Ruined Pinnacle and Marsh Lands come back. Pretty cool list, specially with the frontier map. Also, 1 little fun fact, during the favorite music theme for the 20th anniversary, almost all maps have a flagship monster, EXCEPT Ruined Pinnacle, like why Capcom, why won't you let me vote for its theme, It's way too good for me to not be able to vote for it!
I have some questions tho, do we know how the maps are gonna work in wilds? By that I mean, are there gonna be multiple maps as big as the one they showed or are they all gonna be connected to one big map with smaller sections like the forest, the mountain ecc. Because if they intend to do multiple giant maps that's gonna be crazy. Beautiful video btw, you can see that you put a lot of thought and work on this.
Deserted island would benefit from them opening the area that was only accessible by glitching in on Tri. Those ruin areas could really add to the area
I honestly feel that the tower itself shouldn’t have ANY overgrowth, the base and surroundings areas should be a forest, but I think the tower should lean into that cold, gothic, and sterile atmosphere, make it feel almost clean.
I know it's really recent but I would really like to see a reinvention of the rotten vale, top 3 maps oat in my opinion, I'd really love to see a wilds-sized version of It
Give me any 4U map at all. I would love to see how they handle the verticality of something like heavens mount or ancestral steppe. Or seeing the frozen seaway glacier genuinely standing over the entire map.
I personally disagree with the Rise map reworks being good. They are not bad per say, but they removed alot of the majestic nature and sheer magnitude of the classic MH locales. They feel more like diorama versions of those maps rather than a remake and honestly they are not up to part with the older designs. If the originals had current graphics and no loading screens, they would be much better looking, but i am aware that this is a much more subjective field than most things so there is no true answer to this
Honestly I can't really think of an area I wouldn't like to come back. Except for one the volcanic Hollow. That is the worst volcano in MH history. But if I had to pick one I would really like to come back it would have to be a tossup between heavens mount, or the Jurassic frontier. And bronze metal goes to ruined pinnacle
idk if anyone else has said this already but i actually disagree with the #1 choice, and thats because i think the ruined pinnacle is the greatest old-gen map thats ever been made. i feel like they knew it would be the final major new map in that style, so they went all out making it the absolute peak of monster hunter environments, and the sheer scale of it is just unmatched. i mean, the valstrax area at the top is in the literal stratosphere. without the loading zones, theyd need to totally crush the size of the whole place to a point where it wouldnt even feel like the same map in order for it to be reasonably traversed in real time. (kinda like what happened with the jungle in sunbreak tbh) i feel this way with the deserted isle too, though i think that has a much higher chance of working in the new-gen style without sacrificing too much. just peak maps that remakes of would never do justice.
Were people just not listening when the Gamescom showcase happened? It's World mechanics! We swim for brief periods as a traversal tool. Underwater combat is not coming back... (I swear, this is going to be another Deviljho tail scenario)
I really don't see the "huge disparity" between World and Rise map design. World still uses bottlenecks that'd be loading zones in older titles and it uses a lot of narrow caves as transition between locales. It's just that the zones are bigger
I'm doubtful that base game wilds would have a remade old map since they seem to focusing on making new areas to flesh out the new world. The eventual expansion would have a higher chance but they would need a story reason to explain why we are going back to an old world area.
I'd say either the expansion or portable 6th will be a safe bet for returning maps. Especially seeing as unlike old gen where they could drop old maps in the next titles much easier Rise maps aren't nearly as advanced as Wilds maps and World maps were made on a completely different engine. So they'd have to redo them, something I don't see Wilds doing as it feels like every map will be new.
Prior to wilds I didn't want any old maps remade because they are just too big. I don't like how much the Jungle, Flooded Forest and the Sandy Plains were shrunk to fit into Rise. (The jungle got hit the worst.) However, in Wilds they can actually put the whole maps for the most part.
I prefer the original Flooded Forest and Sandy Plains imo and I like the original BGMs better. The new Jungle I think was a better "glow up" or difference.
I'm gonna say even though it was already done, I want to see a remake of the Flooded Forest again, but done in a game that allows swimming again. ... and also with the old soundtrack back because I don't care if everyone else loved it I did NOT like the remixed Flooded Forest battle theme. Old one was way better.
I agree with a lot of this video except for these maps being in wilds Wilds is a direct sequel to world which had no returning maps because of the new world, its story is about the new world and it might ruin the games story to bring old maps back. Rise's story was meant to blend both the new and old world and both games were great at the respective things i guess. This would work well in a sequel to rise or a new generations game, but ik for a fact old maps being added to wilds may ruin the game for some
I might as well rank all the pre 5th gen generic maps for suitability for a hypothetical Portable 6th game, note that it will try to make use of the maps gimmicks as much as possible. First Generation; Forest & hills/Verdant hills: A bit of a shaky start, on one hand this is a visually unique map that provides a unique spin on a starter map while being nostalgic. On the other hand it is a VERY awkwardly laid out with multiple areas too small to fight really anything in and there isn’t much you do about it, the forest zones are too few and unconnected to actually have a dedicated roster of forest dwellings monsters which forces basically anything that isn’t a standard Wyvern to awkwardly sit in like three zones which is really obvious in Generations, even still it isn’t a horrible choice,6/10. Old Jungle: One of the most decisive maps in the series, it simultaneously one the most atmospheric maps in the franchise being a fittingly dense rainforest with dark caves and muddy rivers with plenty of room to expand upon, but the dense map can be infuriating to navigate especially for a novice map. Solid 7/10 Old Desert/Dunes: The original desert map and very interestingly laid out, it was also already remade in the 4th Generation so it probably could wait a while for a remix, 5/10. Old Swamp: A very atmospheric map that is both loved for its aesthetics and hated for its spiteful wildlife, pretty much every point here is valid so 9/10. Old Volcano: A dreary and forbidding map, after the Tri Volcano it is probably the best at showing the progression of the volcano with its main issue being its pretty small size, 8/10.

Fun fact! That same guy has a Patreon where you can get custom-made instruction sets for building LEGO Monster Hunter monsters! Really great stuff!
I love pikminjake I have 3 of his sets lol
A while ago I tried to build a lego tigrex and it turned out pretty rough… I might check this guy out!
Tri was my first MH and i’ll always view it as a favorite and have alot of nostalgia for it
Honestly, I think so much solid work went into the three remade maps in Rise and the games are so different that I couldn't feasibly call it lazy
Don t lava caves are moga woods but with a volcano?
W game mh tri is
i think every map deserves a chance at a glow up but the maps i would love to see modernized graphically at least, are Frozen Seaway, Gen 3 Tundra, Gen 3 Volcano, Misty Peaks, Ancestal Steppe, Sunken/Volcanic Hollow, Dunes, Gen 2 Swamp, Gen 1 Jungle, and Verdant Hills
I know it’s a lot but all of these maps are good to me or need a little improving.
What are Verdant Hills?
I don't like how they got rid of 11 and 12 in moga woods
@@Rigter9029 gen 1 Forest and Hills, it was rebranded in Generations
Before Rise was a thing, I kept having these weird dreams where I was in a open world-like version of the Sandy Plains and Flooded Forest. Tri was my first MH game so those maps were kinda my favorites, so glad they returned in Rise and made my dream come true. The other map I had dreams about though?...Tundra. lol
Yeah ancestral steppe for sure
Deserted Island would be nice to see... I miss Moga and it's Hunting Grounds so much.
Its a pretty excellent map, very nostalgic too
31:48 these vertical hallways were actually meant for Yamatsukami.
But after that, the Ruined Pinnacle would be a nice map to revamp as well
@@Rudeus-r7r such an amazing map concept
One I'd kill for is the Highlands from Frontier. The high rank highlands theme has to be my favorite area theme right besides the 3rd gen tundra and the highland's aesthetic is just magnificent!
I wrote this before even watching the video and hearing you mention the Gorge
Painted Waterfalls could also be amazing.
Peak taste with Primal Forest and Jurassic Frontier!
Pretty much my thoughts exactly with the V. Hills
Forest and Hills*
I was in tears when the 2nd gen jungle map got reintroduced in MHRS... MHFU was my first MH and had a lot of awesome memories with it.
You have that "Imma really sell you this product" kinda voice
My favorite old school maps are the Frozen Seaway and the Ruined Pinnacle. I don’t think the latter would work well without loading screens but I would love to see the former reimagined. It’s got a great atmosphere, monster roster and theme.
Yay, both of my favorite made it on the list. I’m still a little iffy on if the Ruined Pinnacle could convey it‘s sense of immense height without loading screens and without taking forever to climb but I would certainly love to see them try. The Frozen Seaway is just gorgeous and I totally agree that it should have more frozen seaway.
Glacial agnaktor and beotodus in the frozen Seaway would be great
@@G1eatShad0w Frozen Seaway is the most beautiful snowy area in all of MH for me, glad it got in the list. Would love to see the Whirlpool and the giant, almost "black-hole looking" area 4 at the top in HD.
The Seikret hopping around and wedge beetles could probably make the ruined pinnacle doable
It’s a cool map to go to, the tropical paradise vibe definitely deserves another pass
Gen 3 Volcano was peak aestethics.
I love your list. And thank you so much for adding the MH1 swamp, I love that map and would LOVE to see it remastered.
It's a pretty fuckin cool map for sure!
Also you can't convince me that the frontier gorge map does not have black mesa hidden in some crevace somewhere...
Awesome video! This brings back a lot of nostalgia for me! I would absolutely love to see more of the older maps remade with modern graphics!
Primal was on there for a little bit actually but I felt like there were other maps that needed the face lift a bit more, and a few 4th gen maps I enjoyed a little more
The Deserted Island and The Ruined Pinnacle are my favorites. Id love if those were remade.
here are my thoughts on your ideas of remaking the maps (and i'll add that they must be bigger):
10) Ancestral Steppe.
fully agreed of adding a wooded area - because the wooded area we *did* get doesn't feel like - nor looks like - a forest.
SunRise made us capable of traversing the trees of the Flooded Forest and scale the cliffs of the Sandy Plains. in other words, SuniRise made the background explorable, which we couldn't do before. why not take advantage of this, and have the woods of the Forest and Hills and Old Swamp traversable?
these are the maps i want to see remade (and made bigger), other than the Forest and Hills and Old Swamp:
*Arctic Ridge.*
the snowy parts of the map can be improved; that's all i can say. the secret area would be reachable, but hard to get to, and would have a Kushala Daora's molted skin. i'm effectively saying that i want the Arctic Ridge's secret area to be like the Hoarfrost Reach's.
the real reason are the camp, Area 1 and Area 2. i want to be able to fight monsters in Area 2 and a new, pretty big wooded area that would be just to the left of camp (because camp is the only wooded area of the map, right now).
*Fortress.*
this is so that we could fight Lao Shan Lung - with the ideas *you* came up with - and my addendums, breath attack in particular (i'm convinced you recognize me for this).
specifically, make the final area (now called Area 2, in GU) a fair bit bigger: have it be somewhat circular like it was FU, with a semi-circle wall connected to the fortress to attack the monster on multiple angles, keeping it busy and away from the fort itself. and have a bridge connect the two ends of the semi-circle wall, from which you can jump off and onto the monster's back - and keep the cannon on rails, with a tunnel on the left side of the wall to allow the cannon to travel in between zones.
I’m only 14 minutes into the video but you’ve fully convinced me the Gorge needs to return. I haven’t played frontier but that map looks like exactly what I want in a monster hunter level
Amazing video! There are maps on here I haven't even heard of, very excited to see if any of them make it back
Probably not in Wilds, but I'm excited to see what the next "portable" Monster Hunter title has to offer
I feel like they could expand the painted falls map and give it a big beach area to it that connects it to the ocean and if they do that they could give us some monsters from the coral highlands
Monsters from the Coral Highlands would be amazing.
@@G1eatShad0w it would make sense because the falls has a lot of water and is also colorful I could imagine coral pukei and namielle in the region
on top of that add Zena and Nami along the map
@@dralakba-dusk31 they would have a turf war along with lagi
Its a fantastic map concept underserved a bit by some of Frontier's limitations. I think a tropical paradise jungle easily deserves a second pass
CAPCOOOOOM. BRING BACK THE RUINED PINACLE AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!!
When it comes to the tower. The ruins of the forlorn arena are very close to it so I feel like they could fuse the two and make the arena a huge ruin area that we could explore at the base of the tower
The forlorn arena essentially is a recreation of a special boss arena that could be accessible on the tower. In old MH I believe it was called Tower 3
@@cr-volcanic We can see the tower in the background tho
One pipe dream I have is that with how big the future maps may be if some maps may be combined together. Imagine if the polar sea from frontier got combined with the frozen seaway from 4. Do something like that with a bit of polish and expansion and you’ve got a massive connected ecosystem.
Neat idea
Watching this video really makes me remember when I played Generations Ultimate, having known Monster Hunter for a while but only having played Worlds before, because I do love all the locales they included from all the older titles. Its great.
oh dude. im so glad you brought up a frontier map so quickly. that game has some INSANELY cool locales
Great idea for a video honestly
I love your list and the vid is anorther great subject. From the title alone, even before wathcing, I was thinking about the Snowy Mountains.
The giant lake/river that could become a viable zone with underwater combat, maybe even travel to the cave system via underwater tunnels. The fisrt zone that could be flooded while the path to the caves and and the second zone turn into shores. Or the river could become partially frozen where monsters get trapped in between ice chunks, or you get drawn underwater and have to get to the shore for air
The caves are enlarged so that monsters may fight everywhere and not only in the nest.
I have some themes I’m rotating for but I’ll definitely update my comment at the end as well.
I want deserted island with u defeated combat in Wilds expansion
Fighting diablos in that gorge would be pretty awesome.
Honestly I don’t get why it was the Gen1 Old Desert that got remade as the Dunes and not the Gen2 Desert
I think for me the 10 areas, in no particular order, would be:
Old Jungle (renamed Rainforest.)
Old Swamp
Forest and Hills
Dunes
Flower Field
Old Volcano (Maybe I just want a MHG expansion idk the maps in it are fun.)
Heaven's Mount
Tide Island
Tundra
Tower (Dos/ Frontier Version)
These maps would make for an amazing game alone. As they would have more then enough unique enviroments.
Great list
I really wanna see Tower too, but the great forest could deserve a remake too, as in make it actually "great"
The Great Forest is the best forest map, in my opinion. Top aestethics.
Great video, you should have way more subs
Workin on it!
personally, I really want to see heaven's mount remade. it's my favourite map from 4U and I was so disappointed when it didn't return for generations.
it's perhaps the most unique map in the series, other than the coral highlands and rotten vale. it's these crumbling ruins suspended by vines and rope to the side of a mountain, and you can just see these giant looming structures crumble around you. it's such an amazing aesthetic.
Still prefer frozen seaway but those are also pretty sick snow maps
@@cr-volcanic frozen seaway is really good, having all you'd want to see in an ice map, so I can see your point, but I just hope for a land/UW fight with Ukanlos and I think Polar sea would be the best map for it. That and Tundra is a bit underrated imo
YES to the Frozen Seaway! For an ice location it is beautiful with a wide coverage of height, slants, and design to put a handful of monsters!
Plus its where I met my BOI Zamtrios for the first time :D
Goated map
Also i would also love to see the Great forest from frontier/Freedom unite, its where i met my biggest wall that allowed me to become much better as a hunter, the Nargacuga! its a special place for me
for me personally, i would love to see a next gen rendition of Misty Peaks, because that map is beautiful in design and the battle theme just slaps 🔥
The moment you explained your reasoning for placing Ancestral Steppe in 10th, I knew exactly what you were going to place in 9th.
Snowy Mountains the peak of snow maps
I personally believe it's the least good one
Expanded Tundra would be glorious
After playing Sunbreak then playing Frontier afterwards, Jungle has a bit of charm to it, both of them
Sneaky good map.
The Tower, I can see alot of it could be improved and becoming a favorite for new fans.
I know it's really recent but I would really like to see a reinvention of the rotten vale, top 3 maps oat in my opinion, I'd really love to see a wilds-sized version of It
I am very disapointed that you did not include the misty peaks
Was under consideration. Likely would have made a top 15. Its not one of my personal all time favorites, but I do like it
6:59 I LOVE BRIDGES!!!
@@yarro7428 fuck yeah
Damn the gorge from frintier is so beautiful 😮 i didn't know this map
Give me any 4U map at all. I would love to see how they handle the verticality of something like heavens mount or ancestral steppe. Or seeing the frozen seaway glacier genuinely standing over the entire map.
I saw it. Forgorr it. Watched it. Loved it.
Rise was the devs love letter to the game I believe a wave goodbye and after replaying it is one of my favorite games now
I personally disagree with the Rise map reworks being good. They are not bad per say, but they removed alot of the majestic nature and sheer magnitude of the classic MH locales. They feel more like diorama versions of those maps rather than a remake and honestly they are not up to part with the older designs. If the originals had current graphics and no loading screens, they would be much better looking, but i am aware that this is a much more subjective field than most things so there is no true answer to this
I agree with most of your choices except for swamp that I would replace by Misty Peaks.
I like the tower and deserted island ( the one tri and ultimate)
I can see them combining multiple old maps into one to get the size up to par. Like, the ancestral steppe flowing into the mh2 desert?
Oh and as for the tower, you gotta look at the mh online tower, that one was absolutely amazing
The jurassic frontier is my perosnal favoirte map in *any* game ever so yea it needs a graphical upgrade imo
Another really good pick.
Pretty good picks. Although the gen 2 snowy mountain slander will not be tolerated.
Mods, reduce his drip rates by 5%
idk if anyone else has said this already but i actually disagree with the #1 choice, and thats because i think the ruined pinnacle is the greatest old-gen map thats ever been made.
i feel like they knew it would be the final major new map in that style, so they went all out making it the absolute peak of monster hunter environments, and the sheer scale of it is just unmatched. i mean, the valstrax area at the top is in the literal stratosphere. without the loading zones, theyd need to totally crush the size of the whole place to a point where it wouldnt even feel like the same map in order for it to be reasonably traversed in real time. (kinda like what happened with the jungle in sunbreak tbh)
i feel this way with the deserted isle too, though i think that has a much higher chance of working in the new-gen style without sacrificing too much. just peak maps that remakes of would never do justice.
Deserted Island
Why do they call it that? There's like 50 Large Monsters you can hunt on that map.
Including hydro phobic monsters like Brachydios
@@VroooomVroooom-kk6wk lmao no clue
Ruined Pinnacle is also my number one map. Please Capcom bring it back 😭
Were people just not listening when the Gamescom showcase happened? It's World mechanics! We swim for brief periods as a traversal tool. Underwater combat is not coming back...
(I swear, this is going to be another Deviljho tail scenario)
I really don't see the "huge disparity" between World and Rise map design.
World still uses bottlenecks that'd be loading zones in older titles and it uses a lot of narrow caves as transition between locales. It's just that the zones are bigger
Deserted island i think would turn into a modern map so easily
Base WIlds very likely won't which is why I didn't advertise this as a Wilds video. They're gonna wanna build up they're own cool region
Prior to wilds I didn't want any old maps remade because they are just too big. I don't like how much the Jungle, Flooded Forest and the Sandy Plains were shrunk to fit into Rise. (The jungle got hit the worst.)
However, in Wilds they can actually put the whole maps for the most part.
Btw, the fact that you need to bomb yourself in order to access some mining platforms in the Gorge is like wirebug-restricted areas in Rise's maps
Flower field too
woah what monster is that swaxe from at 26:30? it's sick
Qurupeco I believe
I prefer the original Flooded Forest and Sandy Plains imo and I like the original BGMs better. The new Jungle I think was a better "glow up" or difference.
I'm gonna say even though it was already done, I want to see a remake of the Flooded Forest again, but done in a game that allows swimming again.
... and also with the old soundtrack back because I don't care if everyone else loved it I did NOT like the remixed Flooded Forest battle theme. Old one was way better.
I agree with a lot of this video except for these maps being in wilds
Wilds is a direct sequel to world which had no returning maps because of the new world, its story is about the new world and it might ruin the games story to bring old maps back.
Rise's story was meant to blend both the new and old world and both games were great at the respective things i guess.
This would work well in a sequel to rise or a new generations game, but ik for a fact old maps being added to wilds may ruin the game for some
That's why I didn't market this as a Wild's video and made a disclaimer up top that this is working off a hypothetical wild's-like game
@@cr-volcanic Oh wild like got it I only heard wilds lol mb
I wanna see the Old Swamp revamped, I'm tired of all the foresty, jungley and eye hurt brighty places
I might as well rank all the pre 5th gen generic maps for suitability for a hypothetical Portable 6th game, note that it will try to make use of the maps gimmicks as much as possible.
First Generation;
Forest & hills/Verdant hills: A bit of a shaky start, on one hand this is a visually unique map that provides a unique spin on a starter map while being nostalgic.
Solid 7/10
Old Desert/Dunes: The original desert map and very interestingly laid out, it was also already remade in the 4th Generation so it probably could wait a while for a remix, 5/10.
