Turns out there's a super secret shortcut in every Monster Hunter game. You can instantly travel to base camp from wherever you are by losing all your health.
Who would have known jumping into the sand would bring you back to the sand-ship, scholars have been asking this question for generations thank you flyaan.
Can't forget the secret area of the Tower in MH2 that you can only access after obtaining Explorer's Tools which gives you access to the Silver and Gold rath events allowing you to go to the unexplored area of the tower which is not marked on the map at all (Which is now the most explored region of the tower as it is the only area to return in most MH games).
I think shortcuts in the old maps were the difference between a well designed map and a bad designed map, that's what makes the third gen maps so good, you can really move between them pretty easily without having to go through more than 3 zones to get to where you want to go, regardless of where you are in the map, making the hunt much more smooth, that is, if you know about the right shortcuts
You missed one secret shortcut in MHTri, in the Ceadeus fight area there are ruins where you can spot a door, if you take that door it will bring you back to the camp
Just a small thing but if you ever want higher quality versions of the cgi monster ecology cutscenes from Gen 1 I dumped them from MHG Wii at a much higher quality than what they were on the PS2 games.
The very first one is directly referenced in MHX, one of the village key quests is to deliver 2 eggs while escaping an astalos with your other escape options blocked off, so the initial purpose was never lost. Sure you can just eat for lander but the shortcut is there and used almost every time on egg quests in that map.
I remember there’s a little cliff ledge at 0:28 and you’re supposed to only be able to spawn there randomly but me and my friends would have one of us posted at the bottom with a gunlamce and shoot at the perfect time as someone was jumping down and it’d knock us up there
There's a secret shortcut in Iceborne. In area 15 of the Hoarfrost Reach, there are some ground sections that can be broken by monsters. If you're standing on one when it falls, you get sent all the way to the cave in area 8 halfway across the map after a loading screen. I first discovered this after toppling a barioth onto one of those sections. Needless to say, I was not amused.
@@ProfessorRugops you mean the hole that opens up leading directly to its lair? if so, then I wouldn't count it. This example in the hoarfrost reach is the only one I know of that places you into a loading screen, whereas the diablos sinkhole and rath slide are both seamless
@@Brass319 Yup, you get there from the cave in area 13. You should also be able to find a video of it pretty easily by looking up 'hoarfrost reach secret area'.
@@randomnpc445 fr man I was expecting everything except this, but tbf dunes at night quests are not as common as the daytime version in mh4u so we were less likely to see someone use that shortcut.
I vaguely remembered a shortcut there at night but not fully. I see why now, its useless. Hunts end in that area and I don't really go cat hunting post hunts.
Amazing video again by the flyann man, an absolut classic when it comes to UA-cam content, will definitely come back when I’m playing a game and look for stuff as background noise.
Awesomesauce, love the video, but there's some neat stuff I'd like to add: -There's actually a total of 3 shortcuts in the Ceadeus fight, the one you mentioned for the final area, another exit on the opposite side of the cliff that leads to the middle area which opens up as Ceadeus enters Area 2, but my favorite is the one hidden in the Ruins in Area that leads back to camp ;3 It's legitimately my favorite secret shortcut ever, no need for Farcasters. -Kirin and Rathalos's version of the Tower (in Dos) have some interesting one way transitions that aren't truly one way, but can make for some fun gunner spots and are just so cool. -As @CanadianAdim mentioned, the Forelorn Arena used to be the hidden area of the Tower (requiring special treasure items to access), the only real indicator that it exists is a small arrow, but you wouldn't really notice it as it doesn't seem to lead anywhere. (There's also a way to get farcasters down there so you aren't trapped ;P) -There are some cool ledges you can stand in the Tower and Flooded Forest that like nobody seems to use/know about. (They're not really shortcuts, but neat map geometry) -While the top of the Tower always has a boulder blocking it, there is actually one quest introduced in Freedom 2, where you can actually pass back down and fully see the entrance.
My favorite thing about the well shortcut is that when you jump in you see your head "hit" the wall where there's an indent, as though indicating that it's a favored path that hundreds of hunters have smacked their head against the wall taking.
The well secrets are a huge thing. I was playing Baten Kaitos recently and like the first area after the sort of tutorial area has you sneak into a castle... by jumping in a well leading to a secret passage. But even today now that I think about it you get stuff like Resident Evil 8 having one or two wells to climb down and several more to pull items up from. Pretty sure Resident Evil 4 had at least one well to climb down too. I like wells.
16:46 ahh so thats how someone in multiplayer was BEHIND THE WALL the other day, i was so confused. i had no idea about the misty peaks one! amazing vid as always dad
Something funny about Gen and GU is that it has 2 other known OoBs exploits in it: one in area 2 of Arctic Ridge, and one in area 3 Misty Peaks (I've made a post about each on reddit). With the Arctic Ridge one you can use it to get to the ledge above the loading trigger to area 3, which is normally blocked off by an invisible wall. It also has some interesting background elements that are fun to see up close. With the Misty Peaks area 3 OoBs, you can clip in behind an invisible wall on the bridge by using either aerial Insect Glaive or aerial Bow, then walk along inside the invisible wall until you're close to the area 2 loading trigger, then jump to clip in to avoid the bridge shortcut load trigger. You can also clip in from a separate spot by using aerial LBG by using a Demon or Armor shot after rolling off from a ledge that has the Super Sprout gathering spots near it, you can use this particular spot along with a separate trick to get to the Explorer spawn platform early in Low Rank so you can get early Carbalite Ores and King Scarabs so you can craft an early High Rank greatsword, the Lacerator Blade, which makes clearing all Low Rank key quests take no time at all. There's also this boulder that blocks off the load trigger from between Area 2 and 3 in Misty Peaks during the Super Sprout gathering quest, but you can use the bridge OoB to get past it and load into Area 2 from Area 3. There's absolute no use for it, but it's pretty funny that it's possible at all.
Your channel is so awesome. I hope when wilds comes out you get a well deserved sub boost. The random useless info videos make my heart warm and my weenis hard.
Not a shortcut, but one of my favorite map curiosities is how in Tri D. Island area 5, when jumping down from area 8, gunners could shoot you in midair to land you on a secret ledge. There was nothing there and it was removed in P3rd and onwards, so it was clearly unintentional, but there you could safely gun monsters without them ever hitting you, which was pretty funny.
For anyone curious, Frontier's exclusive maps also have shortcuts. Well A shortcut that can be found in the White Lake map where you fight Gasurabazura, the Brute Wyvern that throws Poison at you. Right outside of the camp in Zone 1 there is a hole you can fall into just like the well in the Big desert from MH Dos. Sure enough this hole will take straight to zone 6.
The Worn Longsword looks really good with the armor you’re using. Also really interested in learning about the rusted weapons stuff since they are mysterious.
also fun to note; there are a lot of out of bounds spots that I can think of in tri that you can get to by being shot by a bowgun in multiplayer. of note for this video, if you manage to get out of bounds from being hit while jumping from the tundra’s felyne explorer spot, you can work your way around to the blocked off areas by hitting the loading zone from behind.
11 Year old me would have killed for a Snowy Mountains shortcut. So many runs going through the cave, getting a little honey and ore, talking to the guy, then running past the Giaprey to go fight Ukanlos/Kushala/Rajang up at the peaks. So. Many. Runs.
I know even about the Marshlands clip, but Im flabbergasted by the Dunes nightime one! I always tought that the only difference on nightime was that you get an extra transition to the big sand pit area.
theres secret shortcuts of sorts in monster hunter world: after unlocking pawswap with tailraiders in mhw you can teleport to the various cat tribes the best one in my opinion is the gajalaka in elder's recess because befriending them alone unlocks a bunch of shortcuts in their base teleporting to their base lets you go anywhere in the recess essentially its the fastest way to metal raths if you can remember which one to go in. just select pawswap on the map and tp to it like a camp.
Man every time I catch a Flyann 2 video or stream I curse my younger self for waiting until World to get into this franchise. So much cool stuff in the older games!
Holy crap, even though I immediately noticed that the Jungle in Sunbreak was a returning map after going there so many times in GU, I'm shocked I never noticed the Desert and Flooded Forest were returning maps too! 3U was my first game too, I probably didn't recognize them cause of all the added areas and it had been so long since I played it. Glad I still remembered the underwater shortcuts from it though XD
Okay the 4u shortcut was something mindblowing, so I just looked it up and it appears that I watched a video about the shortcut years ago by gaijin hunter
MHW does have two such shortcuts. In Ancient Forest area 17, northwest of the camp, there's a path that leads to a hidden jump-down, which lands you directly in area 6, making it much closer to reach this area than from the camp between areas 5 and 11. Again, in the Hoarfrost Reach, I believe it's camp 7, there's a very-easy-to-miss hole that drops you down into the underground section, right atop an unfortunate pile of bones and next to some ocean fishing.
Theres a very secret shortcut in gen 1 forest and hills. If you go to area 4, there are 2 ledges you would normally climb to get to the lair. You can completely bypass the first ledge by instantly teleporting to the top of it if you run and climb it where the ledge meets the more flush part of the wall.
Oh my god, no way there's a shortcut for the Caedeus fight!! I fought him so many times as a kid, and struggled every time with the timer because when he killed me i swam all the way I knew all the other ones from Gen 3, but at one? Can't believe it
I found the secret shortcut in the base camp of deserted island in 3U on my own, it was my first MH and it made me go on a hunt for shortcuts in other base camps.
The coolest one for me peronsally is the one in the Tundra with the 2 WHOLE ASS AREAS you unlock by just fighting a monster. I was absolutely flabbergasted when I saw this the first time I tell you; it really makes the fight feel more climactic ala raid bosses like Kulve and Safi. Also the one in the Dunes might just be the the VIP nightclub entrance for anyone manages to find it lol. Oh yeah and I actually know how to get to the Equal Dragon Weapon. It's actually hidden somewhere in Dundorma but I won't tell you where 😊
There's also a second shortcut in the underwater ruin camp (on the other side of the tent as the usual shortcut iirc) which brings you to a different part of area 2. Always felt a bit redundant but it's there.
i'd consider the big sandy areas of gen 1 desert, there's four or five different connections between them at the edges that spit you oit different places - a handy shortcut for herbivore egg quest if you know which to take
I didn't know the 3rd gen flooded forest secret shortcut and the 4th gen tree secret shortcut. I knew about the "Very Very Evil Super Secret Shortcut" from TDS I think, one of their MH Gone Wrong.
I used to invite people to tour quest to the swamp and show them that secret "place", the void, if you go further in there, there is a point where there is no more ground and you just fall forever, in the void, the only way to get out of there is to exit the quest
I have a vague memory of jumping off the bridge in the misty peaks to be met by a gang of Melynx. IDK if they were already there or if it was a rare chance but it was neat nonetheless.
Damn, I was so smug with this up to the very final I was like "ha I already knew all of this stuff" and then that final shortcut to area 11 in the dunes, I played monster hunter 4U for 1700 hours completed almost everything, but I didn't knew about that shortcut
Damn I knew about all of them except the felyne base in MH4/U 😭. Since you mentioned it, can you make a video about secret areas? I remember seeing the swamp's in MHFU for the first time and being mesmerized. But I don't know if every map has a secret area nor what they look like.
idk if it counts but there's the secret way to get to the second area in the Ceadeus fight by going off the ledge behind where you spawn in Basecamp. This one is interesting because you can also go back through it to return to camp and the entrance is hidden well on one of the structures in that second area.
I have fought chameleos in rise upwards of 20 times, taking that wirebug and I NEVER noticed that tunnel. I don't know whether to feel happy or depressed
Idk if this counts or not, or if someone else mentioned it, but world kinda has a secret shortcut in the wildspire waste, the huge pitfall that diablos creates when you shoot at the mernos leads you to the cave underneath it, as far as I know the only indication might be a trap icon but besides that it's akin to tri's tundra map, or ceadeus' whole map where a monster has to break the environment to give you the shortcut
Thank you guys for 65k 🥳🥳
There is also a Shortcut in area 2 in the Ceadeus fight that I forgot to point out, sorry y'all I was busy making dung bombs

Another Flyann upload. It’s a good day.
12:45 if you were the 4th player and Jhen was at the right of the boat and flinched you could be back up on its tail
I would like an egg lore video please.
HE POSTED
You can be underwater at the base camp of the jungle in mh4 by emoting in a deep part
Another "secret" of gen 2: you can also jump into Shen Gao Ren mouth when he is abaout to shoot to the fortress, so you can put a bomb on it
It took me 72 years to find this out
Thanks for sharing
I didn't know about jumping off the bridge on the Misty Peaks map (nor about the Dunes Palico one).
I gotta try that clipping one later.
I have a vague memory of jumping off the bridge in the misty peaks to be met by a gang of Melynx. IDK if they were already there or if it was a rare chance but it was neat nonetheless.
The video starting by having to explain how the old-gen maps worked made me feel old for the first time in my life.
God I can't wait to learn about the fabled Flyskip
“Babe wake up, new Flyann 2 vid just dropped”
Babe wake up new flyann documentary
Great video! i knew about all but one of those, you get to keep your golden gargwa egg... for now lol
3:51 that's me, except I feel more ashamed not knowing than anything lol
Damn, I was so smug with this up to the very final I was like "ha I already knew all of this stuff" and then that final shortcut to area 11 in the dunes, I played monster hunter 4U for 1700 hours completed almost everything, but I didn't knew about that shortcut
Damn I knew about all of them except the felyne base in MH4/U 😭. Since you mentioned it, can you make a video about secret areas? I remember seeing the swamp's in MHFU for the first time and being mesmerized. But I don't know if every map has a secret area nor what they look like.
I actually had no idea that there was that shortcut in the flooded forest. You'd think that 500hrs in LocLac would have revealed it to me
12:36
i shit you not jumping off the boat into the sand was the FIRST thing I did in 4U..
idk if it counts but there's the secret way to get to the second area in the Ceadeus fight by going off the ledge behind where you spawn in Basecamp. This one is interesting because you can also go back through it to return to camp and the entrance is hidden well on one of the structures in that second area.
I have a memory of a second secret shortcut in the Ceadeus fight, which went from area 2 to the camp, now I won't be able to sleep until I check it
I have fought chameleos in rise upwards of 20 times, taking that wirebug and I NEVER noticed that tunnel.
