Love you old videoes.
@TheMusician2796 I metered for the centre of the pano and yes some shots will be lighter, some darker. BUT the exposure on the edges will match one shot to the next and that makes a smoother blend when they are stiched.
@movania89 I use Photomerge, which is part of Photoshop / Photoshop Elements. It's perfect for small panoramics like this. I then ran my "Cross Process no 1" action on the pano to boost the contrast and twist the colours a little.
@in2food The first couple were always VERY blurred, but the next couple are pretty sharp. Got to love digital SLR's
@rticknor No bracketing of exposure this time, but I was shooting in continuous to get sharp shots at low shutter speeds or shooting the water spalsh sequence.
@PhotoGavin Thanks! Yeah, I also keep my AF point in the center as well...but was never really sure if that was best for moving targets. Thanks again!
@oSCRIPTo It was indeed 1/2000th of a sec. There's a link in the description to my FlickR feed. You'll find a coupke of the photos and exif data there.
@OswaldoBonfa No idea about M42 lenses, sorry.
you are a true photographer! i love your pictures
@erasmusmarius25 Yes the actions will work on PC or Mac
Great job Gavin. I really look forward to your videos. They are very informative and entertaining. Keep up the goodwork.
I love Brighton Pier
Dude Your 15 min challenges are very inspirational makes me want to take photos.
Please do more
"Ohhh, it's exciting right?!" at 3:52 is just awesome, haha.
Thanks a lot for another awesome video, Gavin!
I like how you change the focus, program, exposure, modes. Good video
@JulieJules623 Otherwise the exposure from one shot to the next would be different and stitching the shots together might give the problem of uneven exposure across the image
@abercrombi803 I use evaluative metering more or less all the time.
Haha I love how everyone stares. Gaven you're awesommmeee :)
@harvey288 I'm south of London based fairly close to Gatwick airport.
Gavin, by coincidence I was at Brighton Pier on Saturday. I wish I'd seen your video before hand as it would have given me some inspiration and ideas to shoot some better photos. Great video as always!
awesome job gavin...
@bigbikes750 Quite possibly, I was very lucky to be at PSW florida 2011.
Yay! Haven't seen one of your videos pop up in my subscriptions in a while :D
Your videos are amazing
Cool place and cool pics
another great video !
yay ! new video !
@GeorgeNathanPhotos I think it's because if he left it in AV mode the shutter speed would keep changing depending on the light levels at each position he took a photo, which would make piecing together a panorama a bit of a nightmare. Once the settings are detected by the camera you'd go into manual and dial in the settings so they'd remain locked no matter what changes in light conditions etc. there are.
I love all your videos, but most this 15 minutes challenges. I am beggining in photography and they are a lot of help for me. You are very creative! Thank You so much I would like to see more videos and I wish to not have to take a tons of photos bbefore I have the correct one, but practice is the key.......
@bernholdt Thanks
You are soooo sympathical!!! I like you!
@animefile2 A bit of luck and a bit of skill. When shooting a pano like this I try and keep moving subjects in the centre of each image and away from the edges.
@PhotoGavin Oh ok, i understand, thank you!
your pictures are all so amazing and have this surreal HDR look, I especially like your panorama - do you post process them??
Never thought of the shadow trick.. nice one, thanks :)
Hey Gav. Another great video. Thanks Buddy.
Also was that you I saw at photoshop world
nice one Gavin :) i love your videos, thanx for them.. heh
I love your accent!
(and your videos and photos too =D )
Would have liked to have seen a challenge from your sewer trip that sounded really interesting. But loved this video as well. :-)
@GeorgeNathanPhotos For panoramics, you want the exposure to be the same - so if he had left it in aperture priority the exposure may have changed causing in the different images looking strange when stitched together.
great video.... what metering mode are you using most of the time?
Wow, I live near here :p great video :D
Very entertaining and informative..excellent.
Great videos - what is the improvement that you have made to the standard RS Sport strap. Also have you tried the "double" (2-camera) strap?
i was in brighton a month ago and it was raining, it was windy, and just the worst weather ever. i was so sad. i wanted to take pictures of the pier. haha. xD
wow his post processing is so great! :(
Nice! I like your videos. OOO from Spain! =)
Awesome :D I would like to see some videos on how you edit :)
Hi Gavin, brilliant video as usual. Do you use Canon's Digital Photo Professional to open your RAW photos or do you download them directly to Photoshop? Thanks
Gavin - Why would you need to put the camera in AP to get your exposure settings, and then set it back to manual for the panorama? BTW - Love your videos!
Gavin, I've always wondered... When putting your camera into Al Servo mode to follow a moving subject with continuous high speed shooting, do you also change your AF points to auto or do you leave it in a manual AF?? Thanks! Great video as always!
Sir, good thing you didn't forgot about the 15 minutes. it's a theme park, lots of people and things going on, and the next thing you knew, you'r 1 minute or more too late. :) Nice!
Gavin, how do you like your trusty 24-105 on your new 5DII? You've shot with that lens on a cropcam for so long, I can imagine you had to take some time to get accustomed to the new field of view? The loss of tele and the gaining of (a lot of) wide angle?
Great video BTW. You've learned me so much. I like your photoshop action pack aswell! I can reccomend it to everyone.
Gavin Great Tutorials ... What do you use to stitch the photos together ?
Love the shows as always - but as a person Brighton born & bred, can I end the misconception - It's called the Palace Pier always has been - always will-
1/10th of a second hand-held. You're a better man that I am.......
your inspiration me gavin thank you soo much ?
Awesome video! I have a question, why do you set the camera to aperture priority get the settings and then switch to manual? If your using the same settings as aperture priority why change it? Why not just leave it in aperture priority? Thanks!
Great video, but reminds me of the last time I visited a fun-fair / amusement park with my partner. Not happy memories. We walked around for about an hour while I took photos of the various rides, but she had to warn me on several occasions that we were being eyed very suspiciously by many, many people, and not just park staff. A surprising number of people were quite verbose in their protestations and accusations, and this alone has made me VERY reluctant to do so again.
Gavin, could you post the setting for when you was shooting into the sun on the big ride. thanks.
I thought it said "15 minutes to fake great photos" for a second lololol
Hi Gavin I'm new to this photography. I had a few shoots and I would like to know what size and format I should give to my clients?
photo editing :D
can you show how you editied that one last PIC in the end the one with the shutter priority
enjoying your video as usual. I think you have to make a review of equipment you use (I hope it will be less then 1 hour video )
would love to see how u edit it gavin!
LOL. "Who in their right minds, would go on that?"
@PhotoGavin so you know any Nikon lens that's like the canon 24-105?
3:32 - 455 Royal Gigolos - California Dreamin'
Yeaah! o/ Btw great video, Gavin, as always!
It sounds like you are bracketing each shot (i think i hear 3 shots each time you take a picture). was that to use later for HDR, or to make sure you get a good exposure?
great video! kepp it up!
Gavin, when you metered in Aperture mode before taking the wide shot, which metering method are you using? Having some trouble how to decide which method is best for which situation...spot, evaluative, partial, etc..
about the panorama, wouldn't the exposure of the picture change if you don't keep changing the settings, because when ever I try doing a panorama and not changing the setting, I always have some pictures darker or lighter than others.
@PhotoGavin aahh im in south west mabey someday i will run in to you :)
Is there a tutorial to get these lovely pictures? (Like the CC)
Gavin, Love your videos
I am particularly interested in the camera harness you are wearing. I tried to buy it today at B&H but they knew nothing about it. What is the make and mode?
titaniumsandwedge Excellent way to keep your camera secure. I'll have to invest in one of these I think. I had a look on Amazon uk and they have something similar that would fit the bill nicely I think.
+hudlmaniac It's a Black Rapid Strap, It's the sport addition I do believe.
+titaniumsandwedge It's a Black Rapid Strap, It's the sport addition I do believe.
where'd you get that shoulder strap ?
gavin where in london are you based?
Hey gav, where did you get your camera strap from? I've been looking to buy something similar myself. Thanks.
Gavin at 5:33 it say's ISO 105 mm. But really amazing photos :)
Hay Gavin I live in Kent any great place for any sort of photography pls
I saw you filming this, haha
Maybe you could try some panning at the carousel!
@rinkmeifucan Don't creep around. Be a bit brave, but don't be the selfish photographer who gets in everyones way.
How did you merge the pictures of a panorama when the people are moving? Wouldn't their be clippings of people at the edge of each picture?
will those actions work on a mac too ??
Another brilliant video Gavin!
Don't suppose you'd need an apprentice at any point?! :)
How did you manage to hand hold at 1/25 of a second
Gavin u r cool with the pics but great in photoshop;)
You shouldve told the guy at 6:05 that you came to the carnival to take pictures of clowns and asked him if he would let you take a pic or two. lol
Tutorial on the cross processed effect?
you have to make a tutorial about the panorama picture!!
gavin, why use such a high ISO in this pic (1.02) when there is ample light? Not a critisism, just trying to learn
Gavin, you RAWk
Do you really stick to the 15 minutes? How many photos do you actually take in an photo challenge and how many of them are usable?
is this legal?
oh im sorry i didnt read description , yes yes i see there is an action pack to buy for thous effects :)
i have an odd question. how do you take go around in crowded places with out seeming like a creep. people shoo me away all the time. or are people in your city just plain nice?
Thanks Gav, Great tutorial A friend who is a keen photographer has been introduced to on FB by my wonderful self...as with thousands he thinks and correctly thinks you amazing ! ( follow hauntedsox twitter)
Why is the intro music so BL**DY LOUD
I like your 15min photo challenge, but I think this time you over saturated almost all of your pictures (the exceptions were the pictures with the kanu at ~5:40). This way the pictures look almost too unrealistic :/
