Everything has its own story, and beauty, this abandoned building has a colourful history stretching back decades. People have won and lost games around it, celebrated or commiserated in it. You can be transported back to those times, imagining how it was then. Old buildings like this have so many textures as a result of decay that has its own beauty and fascination. When Gavin takes shots of peeling paint, the textures and patterns are fascinating, you need to look closer.
I find myself wishing I had been there when you did this shoot. You facial expressions are priceless!
Sir, I just wanted to say that I truly love your videos and they inspire me immensely!...Please keep these videos coming! :)
Merci Monsieur Gavin pour vos reportages, j'apprecie ces quelques minutes de reportage.
Great video as always, thanks Gavin, you're a major inspiration!!
Mate you're the most pro urbexer I've ever seen, can't wait to view your west park report...
Maestroi Gavin ! Grande como siempre Love it !!
Fantastic as always!
Alway love the 15 minute photo challenge!
I like the idea of a black and white HDR! !! keep on like this!!!
Another great informative video. Love the camera strap I'll have to look into getting one.
Love the HDR photos!
@PhotoGavin it is absolutely amazing you could take such great photos in just 15 mins at this abandoned place! and so many of them!
Please do the next tutorial on how you process the HDR in PS CS5, thank you.
@mariandeacu Either 3 or 5 depending on the contrast levels. For these images it was mostly 3 shots, two stops apart.
very creative in finding a subject..i got some of gavins video and it helps a lot regarding shooting raw, easier to adjust color...
i loved the leaf shot
One of my favourite of your 15 minute challenges Gavin. Those HDR images were stunning. It would be great if you could do a video or two of your photoshop work on creating some of these images. Hope you had a shower before you sat down to to photoshop these shots :). many thanks again.
Nice work. I like the 15 minute challenge.
Yes! Another 15 minute challenge.
ROFL you left the video camera man in there LOL. gorgous pics I love the way they turned out. I learned the trick of using the timmer to take long exposure shots of the night sky by trial and error, works wonders. Eliminates any initial vibration from clicking the shutter button.
With Photography, just as any other art from, typically the pieces that have the biggest impact aren't ones that are happy-do-good. Pictures of flowers, although beautiful, dont leave as big an imprint on viewers as the famous photos form Saigon, Vietnam
The music made me feel like there was an imminent horror scene!
Would also like to see how you processed the HDR shots. Great challenge as usual.
Cool ideas, thanks !
i still love your vids.the are GREAT.
@dirtycooking Yep, about 6 months ago. Great camera and currently at a pretty good price too.
Great, I just love urban exploring.
@r0ng100 It's new in Photoshop CS5... File - Automate - Merge to HDR Pro
I have my Black Rapid RS-W1 (W1 designed for woman) and I love it. Thanks Gavin for putting me onto the Black Rapid Brand, I thought it was a little pricie til I put it on, then I realised its worth every cent. :) Cant wait for your next 15 minute challenge.
You are amazing!
you are so good man..congrats!!
finally another episode
Gavin, just to let you know that you look great standing in the background at Photoshop world with a beer in your hand. Well done buddy and cheers.
Peter
Mr. Gavin you are AMAZING! just one question for a beginner what camera and lens would you recommend without a really high price point if you can. Thanks. again Awesome work and love your videos please keep them coming!
Great sample of work experience!
Great place for a zombie movie!
Mmmm, that Paint with the heart pealed out of it is gonna be my new desktop.
@PhotoGavin ...and totally expensive. They're great straps, alright! But, I don't know what they sell for where you are, but over here, in Canada, they sell for the Canadian equivalent of about $60.00 British pounds. I've played around with a friend's BR R-7, and liked it a lot - great strap. But, I can never seem to quite get myself to part with that kind of cash for a strap - especially not when there's all sorts of old, classic glass floating around on E-bay for not too much more than that.
love your videos! and amazing pictures!
you used photoshop HDR pro with all your HDR pics?
and how i get in to the HDR pro? ><
Hi Gevin!! First of all I have to say that I totally love your pictures!! You're such a great photographer!
I think it would be great for us (normal photographers) if you could show how you did the photo in 6:30. How did you do the effect here and how do you get the nice colors in the pictures. I'm tryind this a lot, but I don't get such nice colors!! The shiny blue or the orange...
Thanks
Ps: 15 minute photo challenge rocks!!! ;)
Hey Gavin, I have recently subbed to you and realized that you seem to know your photography very well so I was wondering what camera and equipment you would recommend for someone wanting to start photography. (My dad and I want to start) :D Thanks
-Jd
'You know us Photographers and peeling paint' LOL!!!
i would like to see how to processed these photo explored urban with camera raw please. do you have some video about that? thank you
I was waiting for Texas chainsaw massacre's Leather Face to jump out at you. lol Nice pics.
sir, you are a genius.
@TurboLag23 Yes. MUCH better. I shoot a Sony A850 - which is Sony's D-SLR offering in the same range as the Canon 5DII. And, there's really no perceptible difference in noise between 100 to 400 ISO. At 800 ISO you begin to notice a little creeping in, but it's still FAR from being a "noisy" image. 1600 ISO is still pretty usable for most applications. And, above 800 ISO, the 5D handles noise much better than my A850. (below 1600 they're practically identical)
@bairak88 Looks like an RS-7 and the BRAD accessory. This guy Jared Polin has a cool review of the strap.
thank you very much
Gavin, maybe you could do a video about processing one of those HDR pics from importing to publishing? Do you edit the photos in ACR first? Or do you merge them to HDR first and then edit them inside PS (add contrast/vignet) etc.
ei Gavin show us how you edit the photos..
great show!!
@ramdawgy Yeah, I dont actually use live view, It was just an example. It's really annoying though, to have shaking hands. It's weird, I can play guitar solos where there are 7 notes each second perfectly, but I cant hold a camera still.
hi gavin
ur videos taught me a lot of stuff, i just want ur opinion on the canon efs 18-200mm 3.5 to 5.6 lens, i am pretty hard at cash at this moment and want a walk around lens as i am going to America in next few weeks and dnt wanna carry a lot of lenses , i had the twin lens kit but i sold those lenses , i got a Canon 550D
@N6600 Thank you sir.
another nice video; this is off topic but I'm considering getting a wacom tablet for my photoshop work, I've read others but whats your thoughts, maybe a video?
@shinichi13 Best advice... shoot RAW. I tend to push the contast sliders fairly hard, but it's not to everyones taste. Experiment and create your own style.
Gavin, great job of making "lemonade out of lemons". These are the types of shots I would take, but my girlfriend says "they are interesting, but who would buy them?". I think they are artisitic and it doesn't matter who buys them.
On another note, I think you are using a Canon, can you tell me if you have a way to convert Canon raw (cr2) to Photoshop raw? I avoid taking raw shots for fear that I wont have a way to convert them. Thanks for any advice!
Fantastic. Can you demo how you processed these in photoshop? Thx!
what lenses do you use? the quality of the pix is great!!
@TheMightyPnut Thanks :)
4:25 works on Nikon, too. Pretty handy feature.
@TheMightyPnut and would the colours have been enhanced in photoshop as well or is there a technique for getting them so vibrant? :)
I would proberly need 15 years photo challenge to make 1 decent photo
By any chance do you plan on putting up a how to do HDR in photoshop? I cant find any decent videos, I really like how you did your HDRs
Some nice shots there Gavin. I do a bit of Urban Exploration (Urbex) myself. I live in Yorkshire and there are some great old textile mills which are excellent for photography. I would put a link to my urbex site but I don't know if youtube will sensor it. "james dolan urbex" on Google will bring it up 1st though.
@marc0241 i think he uses the canon 24-105 f4 L lens...as always :)
@PhotoGavin HOw do you find it with the 9 focus points?
I love you!
Is HDR a feature in the camera? If so, I have the canon t1i as it is a good beginner camera for me, therefore, does it have this feature? And does it have AE bracketing??
hey how'd you get the dark corners and stuff on the picture of the leaf against the wood at 1:28. thanks mate
Greeeeeat................
is it still a HDR picture, if i take just one shot in RAW mode and paint the different exposures in lightroom? that should be the same result.
please do u a tutorial on dragan effect pleeeeeeease!
sir good day to you i would like to ask what lens you use? wide? and how many mm? thank u
Hi Gavin, Can you please tell me what type of background music you are using? and from where I can get it? THANKS A LOT
Can you let me know which strap it is? I like the look of it. Thanks!
- John,
i have a canon 7d how do you take hdr photos ?
gavin, can you tell me which model manfrotto tripod you have? is it carbon fiber?
Thanks for the vids
@ypsifrog highly recommend. Check out my videos on the wacom bamboo and intuos4
@dirtycooking what was he using before? i though he have had that camera for a long time
How can you hold your hands so still? I have trouble under 1/100 shutter speed. If I choose liveview, it look like there's an earth quake or something.
i want this challenges in real time :D
gavin when you used AE bkt, how did you get to take the number of shots automatically instead of one at a time, can you explain?
Yeah man so do I. It's called Rs- Sport and it's made by BlackRapid
What kind of tripod are you using Gavin? I mean what brand and model number. Thanks
How would you rate that lense?
IT'S A MANFROTTO TRIPOD OF RECENT PRODUCTION; I USED GIZO AND BELONG TO THE ANALOGIC ERA AS A PHOTOGRAPHER, SO NO IDEA ABOUT WHICH SERIES, HEAD IS NOT MANFROTTO
how do you set your camera to take those hdr shots???
what is HDR???? thanks
hahahahahaha this music is like creepy horror music and civilization music (member that game?)
Where can I buy that strap at?
Sir, what is your strap. Was planning to invest on a new strap that is more convenient and is w/o that huge camera branding.
Why do you use ISO when you don't need to? I find it just adds unnecessary graininess to my images, and I usually leave it at its lowest setting since it's non-defeatable.
Is this just because of my camera (Canon EOS DR XTi w/18mm-55mm), and can a camera like the Canon 60D, 7D or 5D handle ISO better?
what kinda tripod is that
whats the music called? :p
do you use wide angle lenses on this challenge?
@TheMightyPnut Yeah I thought it must have been HDR (and I had just pressed post when he said the thing about HDR hahaha) but I wasn't sure. I am around 16 too and I just want to get the best from my pictures straight out of the camera, you know? :)
Are you using Nik Software's HDR Efex Pro, or something from Photoshop?
Is that the 5d or the 5DII? I would assume it's the II, but just checking. :)
I heard your camera take that HDR. How did you get it to do that?
I'd like to ask you, on an average how many photoes do you endup clicking in those fifteen minutes?
P.S.: Do you knoe the game of cricket?
please show also postprocess :)
