Jimi Hendrix I couldn't agree more with everything you wrote except for one thing. Jimmy was obsessed with where every penny went. He'd seen how bands were ripped off in every way imaginable. This is why Peter Grant was perfect for the band. Jimmys nickname was "led wallet" lol. ZEPPELIN FOREVER!

Zeppelin are highly original. Even blues based riffs like Bring It On Home or Nobody's Fault are deconstructed and totally transformed. Lyrics could have been changed to form new songs but no, honesty to their roots resonates and gives new power!

After that i was hooked on Led Zeppelin and Jimmy because i was learning guitar . Shortly after that Zeppelin toured and tickets went on sale my sister waited in line for hrs for tickets she cam home a said they sold out ! I was bummed out our family always say together for dinner and after dinner we’re all sitting there and she said look under your plate !!! There before me was a ticket to Led Zeppelin at the Omni in Atlanta ! My first concert the rest is history ! Thank you to everyone in the band you’ve changed my life RIp BONZO !

I don't understand why people are being critical of his "the guitar being out of tune" This was not a recording session or a pre-planned moment. It is Jimmy Page purely jamming it out and having some fun. Also what alot of people do not realise is this tuning is not in normal concert pitch (E A D G B E). It rather incorporates alternate tuning often used in his Led Zeppelin songs such Kashmir, The Rain Songs etc Thes tunings are rather dsus4 (modal), drop D, open C etc.

the highest top string is off. but please notice he is using a rather ordinary looking acoustic guitar, and not one with strings designed for such a tuning. Tuning in these kinds of keys, if the top is over-tight the bottom goes out and tuning becomes a vicious circle of untuning itself. It doesnt bother me to listen to it even tho i hear that string out, as Im mainly tone deaf anyhow. :) it sounds great to me with Friends at the 1 40 mark i think.

Make no mistake, Page has the guitar tuned specific to his needs, for the song. He's a true musical genius. Many artists won't let you hear their experimental out-takes when they're composing a song,, Page never cared to live up to some prefabricated media image they created. If you've ever known true musicians on a personal level, it's quite an honor to be witness to the birth of a new song. Intense, emotional, raw, tangible, 3 dimensional and fulfilling. As long as he liked the finished product, he was satisfied. If the fans liked it too, then that was better, but not necessary..

People are underestimating Jimmy's ability to do art. He is doing what he always did, exploring the boundaries of music. The often atonal sound that you hear is on purpose, that' his style. It is not Flamenco, even though he is using phrygian scale, he is actually trying to discover and incorporate new sounds, along with his experience as an experimental musician. I know him very well, i know his limitations (jimmy page is a sloopy player), he doesn't play well live (in the matter of technics), but what i know is this: what he is doing here is on purpose, and of course you have the right to not like how it sounds, but you can't say that he is doing wrong,or that his guitar is out of tune.

If you can't get this, go back to your keyboard-demoish/dream theaterish perfect music. P.s. What I'm referring to does not have to do with the kind of tuning Jimmy is using here: the guitar is just not perfectly tuned.

Visually, maybe some of us question the video panning along the floor back and forth. But see the subtle images of the light cast upon the floor from outside. And the image is of an inverted mirror of the World beyond. So we on the outside of Jimmy's world there, his solitary world of he and his music, view it askew. The world is outside and upside down. And the Musician creates meaning on another level. Don't you agree?

Minimalist? Wtf are you talking about? There’s a lot going on in his playing. Is it because he isn’t shredding 100 miles per minute it’s “minimalist”. John Lee hooker is minimalist. Page uses a lot of chords, different scales, and melodic and rhythmic sophistication as well as powerful expression. Most guitarists or musicians are boring to listen too, he’s special like any successful musician cause he can move people with his performance.

Just listening to Jimmy's VOICE that comes through the guitar. It's so incredibly evocative. Who gives af about the guitar being slightly outta tune or the song structure being some what basic. Those points are irrelevant just as they'd be if slung in the direction of Hendrix. There is simply no other voice like Jimmy Page's on the guitar.

I hear it too, the "tuning/ intonation" but lets see the reality, this is Jimmy Page here, if it was out of tune he could have just tuned it real quick, and if the guitar wasnt sounding right im sure he has others (I would have one in every room if i were him) so to me i like to think he played it this way on purpose- probably some cheesy reason like to show kids that good notes and bad notes is a relative idea. An important thing about this piece is that it is certainly not trying to be technical or show mastery, its just trying to convey emotions/feelings, maybe tell a story, and that is exactly what it does for me here. I feel i would like this video a lot less if it were recorded in the middle of the day- what he plays seems to be made to be listened to at dusk like in the video.

Just watched this for the first time. Fucking great. Jimmy really does live just on the other side of pure and must love to flirt with the nasty....as do I and many others!
Pristine tuning has it's place in most anything pop, country, jazz and other styles. But when going for broke with experimentation with rock or blues etc etc and want to become one with the guitar......(which will later probably shape and define your sound/style).....and when you have learned to play the guitar well enough to where you can let go of all the do's and dont's....when you have got to the point you can get into the zone within 2 seconds of picking the guitar up, or going for it while tracking in the studio, at rehearsals, a gig etc etc.........you are playing in a different league.
Until you understand this, you *should* concern yourself with accuracy in tuning....and as importantly, intonation and fretting pressure....especially on a 12-string or any amount of strings where there are octave strings and it's so easy to get microtonal differences.
However....right now, pat yourself on the back for having an ear and picking out these fractional tuning differences. It tweaks your ear doesn't it? It's meant to. He heard that. He could have stopped and tuned up. He chose not to. He made an instant decision to make it work..........to play with it....to see how it made him feel about keeping going based on what was coming out........and if it worked, great! If not....Take Two.
The people who know this are trying to learn ya.....if anyone here is serious about the guitar and you are taking this discussion in......absorb and move forward.
Dissonance. Some will find dissonance sweet, others it will offend. I love the comment by JR Tyndale about Jimmy purchasing a cathedral hall rather than a reverb pedal. So true. I believe the main stairwell in his mansion was used to track drums for LZ II. Could be wrong there.

If this was *anybody* else playing this, it would get nothing but dislikes and people saying how horrible it is but because it’s Page, everyone acts like it’s the greatest thing ever. Deep down, you all know it’s true.

The idiots who criticize JP for being out of tune or “sloppy” really do make me lose hope for humanity. But on the other hand they are just low lives who know nothing. So humanity goes on, thanks to the true geniuses and greats like Mr. Page.

Jimmy Page is a musical genius, and there are no words that will do justice to his talent.
