This is Page in a natural environment, noodling away, looking for ideas and not bothered about the state of his playing. I've been musician since the early nineties and as much as you love it, sometimes you do get bored of it or the ideas don't flow so you just start playing scrappy.

Honestly, I don't really care for the album version, I think it was overblown. But there's a live version I have of it, not sure if it's from The Firm or the ARMS tour, but it was really good!

Interesting, you can hear different parts of songs that were completed and or were included later on solo albums, soundtrack or others. I hear Swan Song which later was Midnight Moonlight. Just to name one.
After reading all the comments on whether or not this is JP, who cares? It's nice to think that it is but, if it's not it's still nice to listen to and imagine your in the studio listening to it getting recorded. To all the naysayers, go pound sand. I'm happy.

I've only herd about these tapes , through research I believe that jimmy page on this tape , maybe not from as far back as 1970 but still... it is the tendencys, consistencys and repetitive progressions of these tapes that are often imitated but never duplicated ... think what you want but Jimmy is almost 100% playing acoustic throughout the duration of this video

It's standard tuning. The first chords he plays when he starts humming are A, D and E (from the fifth fret onwards). Then, the descending chord pattern is A, G# and F#. Afterwards, I've no clue. It was thanks to a comment on a video of that specific part that I figured that much. I'm no music expert, but I hope it helps.

I will say as a musician it does sound to a degree like his style But I say again But if its not him somebody did a hell of a job playing this. I would say its possible different people on it though. You ca hear change in style .But also if its him you haft take into a account you would be trying different ways to approach and compose nothing very rarely just happens especially to the musician other people might like it and you cant stand it for some reason.

I've heard most of this stuff in another recording represented to be from his home studio. I am not going to hazard a guess of whether this is Jimmy noodling around, but I'm pretty certain this was not at Bron-Y-Aur. The piano section is identical to the "home studio" recording and sounds suspiciously like an Eric Satie composition. I've never heard anyone mention a piano at Bron-Y-Aur and it seems like they would have. There are also clicks and switches in this recording that lead me to believe that this was recorded on professional electrical equipment and not the primitive battery operated equipment they would have had to use without electricity.
The piano part at 8:00 sounds like a genre which has yet to be discovered. Somehow it all sounds very recognisable yet unfamiliar, with a lot of suspense pulling you through it. I wish there was a full song version of this piano bit.
Sounds like neo-classical piano. The most famous name I would say is debussy. Sounds a lot like his music as well as others’ from the very late 1800s / early 1900s

The piece was written by Page on acoustic guitar during the Physical Graffiti sessions, but later turned into a piano piece played by a musician by the name of Dave Lawson for the Death Wish II soundtrack (Carol's Theme or Jill's Theme) that he and Page worked on. It's a gorgeous piece.
Sounds similar to the sort of stuff Rick Wakeman does - he has a few albums of solo piano in this style. I'm not saying this IS Rick Wakeman, but if you like this, then....

But there is also quite a bit of unfamiliar guitar pieces within this video that I've never heard before, and honestly they do not sound like Page at all. The latter half is not nearly as good as the first half. I'm very skeptical. I know Page's "unofficial" guitar pieces like I know the back of my own hand. I have gotten a hold of nearly every single bootleg with Page on it in existence over the decades. I would bet serious money that, aside from the first half or so, this isn't Page. It seems someone posted a few of Jimmy's studio sessions here in this video but then threw in their own stuff for whatever reason. The latter half is not Page. Sue me. I know my Jimmy. Lol

What is the source of this video? I don't hear anything in this recording that is undeniabley JP. I'm a guitarist of 48 years and can play most Zep songs, many I have obseesed over for years to get down the JP nuances. This track could be JP, the compositions are similar to his style. However, to me it does not sound like Jimmy palying. The picking is uncharacteristic of JP, I hear a lot of twangy up picks and strums that you just don't hear with JP., it is also void of the tell-tale trademark nuances that are unique to Jimmy. Jimmy has a softer touch, this sounds too clunky for JP. Also, the recording quality is very poor with the mic too close to the guitar, it seems unlikely JP would make that recording error. I could post dozens of my recordings and say it was JP and 99%+ of people would not be able to tell the difference. Im going with not JP, JMHO.
jimmy page is my favorite musician, and artist in general. no one else i can think of has conveyed this range and depth of feeling in their music.

Jimmy's house was robbed in the late 80s. Alot of tapes got stolen.
