KASHMIR chords -Jimmy Page, Jack White, & Edge

- Jimmy Page (lead guitarist for classic rock legends Led Zeppelin), talks with Jack White (guitarist for the White Stripes), & the Edge (guitarist for U2), about the genesis, alternate tuning (DADGAD), and chord progression of Led Zep's song, "Kashmir."
Original track: • Kashmir (Remaster)
The clip is from the special features of the film "It Might Get Loud":
• It Might Get Loud | Of...
Jimmy Page looks like Beethoven just got up from the grave and decided, "Fuck piano, I'm going hardcore 6-string!"
you are on spot lol...
Fucking brilliant!
WHAT? I was thinking the same!
WORD
who knows maybe he's genetically connected
"Oh cool. Kashmir. Where'd you learn how to play that?"
"Jimmy Page taught me."

@snipe69 LMAO
Dude years ago we played that in a party and i gave the exact line 😅
Years ago when I lived in AK, a friend of my stepdad had a son who just got out of jail and mom let him stay at their house. We were always over there and we hung out quite a bit ( he once jumped the fence at a salvage yard to try to get my car back from the wrecker, but that's a whole story by itself :). Anyway, one day he picked up my acoustic and started to play - I think it was Cowboy's from Hell or Flood - but differently from the way I learned it from the official tablature. We had a similar conversation and he wasn't really forthright about it but I finally pieced together who's cousin he was after he said "Darryl taught me." Later on, I remembered his Dad's last name was Anselmo and was from Louisiana.
This is like Gandalf the White showing you how magic works for real. Epic beyond words for any guitarist or Zeppelin fan.
-Come over and see- ‘The Audio Recording
Where Amber Heard Almost Died’
That is an absolutely brilliant analogy in so many ways.
I think he look like einstein
Oh gimme a fkin break
Nah,it really isn't, he's such a sloppy player, painful to watch, and especially to hear.
I love how that he sounds like a granddad telling a story to his grandkids, and in the middle of it is one of the most recognizable and most epic guitar riffs ever created.
Page: “cool isn’t it?” Talking about his Kashmir guitar riff... understatement of the millennium.
That struck me too.
Cool isn't he?
Nice music, they shouldn’t talk crap about it.
Great riff, only surpassed by Ritchie Blackmore, smoke on the water, a thumb warm up apparently.
Way better than just being random " cool"
You may be cool...
But you will never be old white-haired Jimmy Page playing Kashmir cool.
+Mathias Rask There is no level of cool for us mortals.
+Mathias Rask He's the Coolest senior-citizen OAP on earth.
+Jett Rink naw he's still young.. as long as you can still play you stay young even though your body ages.. the same with Keith Richards and many other guys from the same era
+Mathias Rask **awesomeface** I support this comment.
+sparklingdark even pirate Keith Richards can't beat that
Jack and Edge trying to look calm and cool watching a master is priceless.
There's a bit in the full movie where Jimmy launches into "whole Lotta love" and Jack instantly turns into a five year old getting candy and Edge literally stands up in reverence. It's fantastic.
This clip, more than any from the movie, shows what a different class Jimmy Page is in amongst these three. I think Jack White is a pretty good musician. But when you look at the two of them watch Jimmy you can see Jack and Edge both know they are not in the same grade as Jimmy Page.

‘The Edge’ should be embarrassed to be there.
That’s a bit harsh. But yeah, he kind of found a gimmick with effects pedals, and you get the sense he’d be lost without them.
silly comment on the Edge
- im not even a big U2 fan but edge is a very creative & innovative guitarist. big influence on people like Ed O Brian from Radiohead, Jack White - who I am a big fan of - is an average blues guitarist at best and certainly no master like page on the instrument - he is also innovative and a great artist though @@robertcottam8824
That guitar in Page's hand might as well have been a magic wand. For he was sending forth sounds and waves not heard before. The looks on both the childrens faces when the wizard started wielding his torch was priceless.

That classic swagger will never leave him. It is him. You can so clearly see in the eyes of Edge and White they know and cherish that they are in front of something great.
Well, the Edge seems impressed, Jack looks like he is watching the clock and needs to be back in his coffin before sunrise.
@@avi8r66 Jack's got the eyes of a shark. He's savoring every moment and taking all of it in. It shows the difference between the Jack White School and the Edge School for sure. Both great educations if you attend, but definitely not the same.

@@TRodge2495 my immediate gut reaction is that Jack has founded so much of his musical repertoire in jazz and funk, which is one of the sides of fusion that Led Zeppelin played within.
Edge, alternatively, is more pop-rock& jazz-lite, so it definitely seems to hit different in their eyes 🤙🏻
Jimmy P. comes alive when he gets up and starts playing doesn't he? It reminds us that a truly great guitarist doesn't copy, they invent. You can't "learn" to be a Jimmy Page, cause you can't learn what hasn't been invented yet. The most interesting thing to me is a quote from Keith Richards: " You know those riffs that I'm famous for? I had to sweat blood to come up with each one." So the most precious skill for a guitar player is inventiveness.
I love how Jimmy still rocks his facial expressions from on stage performances in his 20's. Obviously loves music with the same passion to this day! Same here btw! I'll be rocking out to Led Zeppelin & Tool in my 90's! ♥️🎸

It was a good mix because Jack can really play and in a somewhat similar style, while Edge actually is quite good but not at all blues-based, just his own style. It was a lot of fun to see them together.

Diapers, hell, Jack White's parents hadn't even bumped nasties yet

Jack wasn’t even born yet 😂
Edge was 13 when Jimmy wrote it 😂

First time I heard Kashmir at about age 11, I remember thinking "I'm either gonna learn how to play the guitar or the drums so I can make that kind of sound." I was absolutely floored by the power of it.

For realz! Bet I’ve watched “It Might Get Loud” 20 times.
@@pizza44ful it’s funny how every generation people throw that lazy, generic “ they don’t make music like they use to” crap around. Objectively there’s has never been a better time for music. Social media and the internet has given so many more people the ability to get their music out. If you don’t think there’s any good artist out there right now you are just not looking. Not to mention now that labels can’t solely rely on album sales alone more bands are (or atleast were before covid ) touring and playing live much more . That’s a win in my books
I think David Guggenheim just kinda lost interest in the idea. About 18 months after this was done, Slash told an interviewer that someone from Guggenheim's staff had approached him about being in a sequel. Several months later, another interviewer brought the subject up, and Slash said he hadn't heard anything else about it. @@theghost6412 what does that even mean? I’ve played guitar and several other instruments for 40 years, and I’ve never once seen anybody get into the “head zone,” whatever that is. Play, or play not. Anything else is Fake diva BS.
@@rsalsman0810 it is a rare point of view some people are capable of. For musicians it is the ability to listen to a song and pick it apart instrument by instrument and block out the rest by focusing on just one. Then they can either copy on a piece of paper note for note, or play it immediately after hearing it just once. Made complicated when songs are layered, this just gets them excited as they then focus on multiples of the same instrument in their head.
It is a trick and skill you will see in conductors and score writers especially.
They will hear a hickup and off note and stop everyone so that they can read through the pages until they pinpoint at what exact note went wrong then know in an entire orchestra of players which one screwed up with straight up 99% accuracy.
@@rsalsman0810 I am not going to call you out, but it is a rare skill that you may or may not be capable of no matter how long you have been playing for. You actually might be doing it and not even aware of it.
Self taught players that cannot read notes are usually capable of a lesser version of it as they rely on their hearing to figure out which note to play.

Lyrics :
Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
And stars fill my dream
I'm a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed
Talk in song from tongues of lilting grace
Sounds caress my ear
And not a word I heard could I relate
The story was quite clear
Oh, baby, I been blind
Oh, yeah, mama, there ain't no denyin'
Oh, ooh yes, I been blind
Mama, mama, ain't no denyin', no denyin'
All I see turns to brown
As the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand
As I scan this wasted land
Try to find, try to find the way I feel
Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace
Like sorts inside a dream
Leave the path that led me to that place
Yellow desert stream
My shangri la beneath the summer moon
I will return again
As the dust that floats high in June
We're moving through Kashmir
Oh, father of the four winds fill my sails
Cross the sea of years
With no provision but an open face
Along the straits of fear
Oh, when I want, when I'm on my way, yeah
And my feet wear my fickle way to stay
Ooh, yeah yeah, oh, yeah yeah,
But I'm down oh, yeah yeah, oh, yeah
Yeah, but I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oh, my baby
Let me take you there
Come on, oh let me take you there
Let me take you there

It's a generous sentiment, but I think even Page would laugh at the idea of Kashmir being on the same level as the Brandenburg Concertos. It's like saying JD Salinger is on the same level as Tolstoy.
That's not a disparagement of Salinger: The Catcher in the Rye is a masterpiece, it'll stay relevant until the earth is consumed by the sun. The same can be said of Kashmir.
But in terms of scope, range, complexity, diversity, psychological acuity, etc., etc., War & Peace blows Catcher out of the water, & Bach does the same to Page. That's why this kind of well-meant but patently erroneous attempt to compare one kind of classic with another actually does a disservice to art.
@@user-cn8me5nh8g Yes. Everyone has different tastes. And to explain in words the greatness of music is an impossible task ))) Frank Zappa was right. Writing about music is like dancing about architecture. I think that's what he said. For me, Kashmir Led Zeppelin is like Bach's "Well-tempered Clavier". Everything is there. Or maybe it's because I was tortured with Bach as a child. I am a conductor by first education :) But I agree with you - these are incomparable values. But the time is different. People are getting smaller. In our time, Bach will no longer be able to appear. For us, Led Zeppelin is Bach. I see it that way. But I don't think I'm always right. I could be wrong. I'm just a human being )))
Totally agree, hi from Phoenix my friend, hope you are well.
@@doyoulovehimloretta1607 Hi! Everything is fine. Let you too - everything will always be fine.
I love how Jimmy Pages comes across like a friendly mad-scientist type here. The long coat, the Einstein hair, the reminiscing about legendary musical creations as if he discovered them just messing around in the lab.
Great man great play..we are lucky to listen to legendary Jimmy Page
I should certainly Coco
What a true honor 💕 to experience this from a legendary man
Edge is trying to figure out how to add delay to the song...
frontcentermusician lmfao one of the best comments
I can see in his face he's thinking: "A riff without delay? Do you realize how crazy that sounds?"
In addition to your excellent comment, JW is trying some digitech whammy bar settings
frontcentermusician don't be silly. He's been trying to figure out how to switch the delay off for the last 40 years
Only Zeppelin, I have to say from the first moment the 4 got together was pure MAGIC
2:40 I love how he breaks into a classic Page pose even when he's just riffing.
That's exactly what I was thinking.... There is no other......
@@johnweaver1198 Absolutely! A true Living legend.
that was some real rockstar shit
Was looking for this comment haha
too cooool
What's cooler than these three people sitting in a room with some guitars? Us, being flies on the wall, that's what's really cool. Thanks for that.
I find it interesting that Page sometimes uses a Danelectro brand guitar. (Like in this video.) They’ve never been considered to be top notch, but more of an affordable instrument. They were built by the same company that produced the Silvertone guitars for Sears/Roebuck, another econo brand guitar. Fascinating.
Great eye and information. I do remember 'Silvertone' in the early to mid 60's!
Jimmy seems such a lovely, warm and humble man, and is giving these men, who are reknowned world class artists, a masterclass, in which they are absorbing in awe as if they've just heard something totally unreal and unique for the first time, and their eyes are wide in amazement by the exhilaration of the moment!
Dude, you should seriously watch JP's documentary. Be warned: it might ruin your idea of who he is.
Jos Budon Where do i find this?
***** I'm pretty sure it's on Netflix. that's where i saw it at least, though that was a while ago so they might've removed it by now.
Jos Budon Tell me more lol
Jos Budon Tell me names
This old boy with white hair, picks up a guitar and rolls back the years till he's 21 again. This quiet and unassuming old man called Jimmy (plus his guitar) transforms before our eyes into the swaggering swaying monster of hard rock that we all remember from our youth. Amazing.
yeah, he really should have done something with his guitar skills, should have led a band or something like that. But it's too late for him, now he can just sit with these other schmocks and jam some guitar riffs and dream what could have been if some of them would have made it into a song. but then, everybody can jam riffs, songwriting is the hard part.
he looks very young though, and his attire is unique
Not old, that's a state of mind truly.
All of us of a certain age were young, cool, and sexy back in our youth. Don't act so surprised.
Love it. But he's not and old man. Old boy is ok 👌
I grew up, listening to three bands. The Beatles, Queen, and Led Zeppelin. In my opinion, Led Zeppelin is the greatest of the three.
it is even if it kills me to admit it because Freddy's vocals are just out of this Earth. When the singing starts in a Queen song its sends chills down your spine...but when the guitars flare up in Led Zeppelin it's like you're struck by lightning
I love them all. They are all great in their own way.
It's the Beatles hands down. But all great.
Jimmy is pure genius..this was a masterclass from the maestro himself..his soul goes through every note..
I feel like I should be paying money just to watch this.
Jimmy would be ok with that!
You are
you can by buying the It Might Get Loud DVD
Edge is a professional. Jack White is a prodigy. Jimmy Page is a friggin' maestro, magician, and master. Wowzers.
Edge is shit. He uses pedals and effects to mask his inability
+Fuzzy Ewok Just because he relies more on being innovative over technique doesn't make him shit.
+stoneydanyahoo Well said.
+Fuzzy Ewok You do it better ....oh no, you can't....
+Fuzzy Ewok He may not be the best Guitar player, but by God he knows his delays and effects. And the result is amazing.
Saying "Edge is shit" is simply not true.
The best way I can describe this video is 'Jimmy Page metamorphizing into JIMMY PAGE', full transformation at the 2:40 mark. Serpentine. Thing of beauty.
Mega talent times three stretching across over 60 years. "It Might Get Loud" is one of my favourites among my many music DVDs.
