That’s incredible I have a 21 TRD OR just like yours 4x4 with a automatic trans , I bought brand new and now has 40k miles on it , I absolutely love it , it tows good , it’s a beast for off road and I’m getting 24 mpg on highway , I’ve learned to use 91 octane fuel after switching from 87 octane the truck just ran better and fuel lasted longer and it was more responsive, thanks for sharing and please keep us posted on your Tacoma . Good job 👍🏻!
You can use 87 octane but the truck will feel like a dog , the 3.5L that’s in the Tacoma has high compression ratio of 11.6:1 it will liven up after a few fill ups of 91 , my wife’s Lexus GS350 has the same motor and it says use 91 octane when you open the fuel door . This 2GR-FKS is a beast of a motor it’s very robust it has a 6 bolt main . Louts has it in their sports car it’s the exact motor they borrowed it from Toyota and pumps out almost 500 hp..
@@peterhoma6385 I have a Lexus GS350 AWD very rare to see those fail. I read reviews before I bought it and the only complaint was the infotainment. The sedan has a full time AWD 70/30 planetary xfercase with a lockup if it slips. Very reliable setup. I use regular gas in mine, maybe it would have a bit more power.

It's amazing to see the load that you're putting that to come under and it has lasted so long. That shows you how much Toyota underrates their truck because it looks like you're way beyond Toyota's ratings. I was thinking about towing a 7000 lb boat after watching this I think I should be totally fine. What would you say your total weight is the way your truck is set up right now with that trailer? Thank you 👍
450k on my 04 tundra. Been pushing 33s E rated tires since 320k. Had a trailer brake controller when I got it at 292k from original owner so I assume it saw decent trailers prior. Dump trailers, landscape trailer, equipment trailers all been behind it. From mowers, sxs, mini excavators, mini skid steers, to pallets of materials have all been behind it. (5) 30 hour road trips to Mexico. Still kicking it on original power train and drivetrain. Everything works as it should. I stay on top of maintenance and swing oem parts as much as I can. Just got another water pump, timing belt, did all front engine seals, and an oil filter housing seal replaced. Worst thing I have had is a radiator go and a thermostat stick. Also had an aftermarket ubj slug pop out of the spindle. Been an amazing truck though. I would drive it to Mexico rn zero hesitations.
Great vid. I have a ‘17 Tacoma off road with automatic trans. Bought her new. Still has the original brakes. 195k. Zero issues. Drives like the day I bought her.
I bought my first truck 2 weeks ago. 1998 Tacoma V6 4x4 5spd xtracab with 204k miles. $11,300. I live in Colorado and it was California owned it’s entire life. I love it so far. I use it for work and camping.
Iv been looking in the truck market for quite some time and after this video I reserved a 2023 and it comes in 6 weeks. Long term ownership will treat my family well. Thank you.
It’ll easily go another 300-600k with regular maintenance. Some would say hauling all that wood is overloading it but I’ve seen em tow way more. The only thing that might stop it is rust if you live in a snowy climate.
Wrangler you are correct. I own the 2013 2nd Gen Taco TRD Sport with the 4.0L V6 and I pull a trailer similar to one in this video. I load it with fire wood and fire wood in the back of the bed of the truck. These Taco are work horses for sure.
I saw a third gen 4 cylinder for sale on auto trader was a 2018 with 380k. Dealer wanted $16,900 for it ! Might still be on there. Would definitely take a fool to pay that much for it
Mannnnn solid truck. This goes to show what just using it as a work truck can be like vs mine. You definitely look like youre "offroad" alot but youre not going out crazy? I got quite a list on mine with 113k but theres stories! Ive replaced my whole power steering system for one! Keep on racking those miles, i do 8K mile oil changes. All i got is a drip around the timing cover. Slow slow leak.
That's very impressive. I have a 2020 SR5 4x4 that I purchased new in July 2020. Currently only have 23,000 miles on it. Only trouble has been the stock battery and the dealership replaced it under warranty with an 84 month warranty Toyota sure start. I been changing my oil every 5,000 miles doing it myself when I was still covered by Toyota care. I've was using Shell gas truck 0w20 but not been able to get that so I been using Supertech 0w20. Was already planning to use ravinoil and redline in the transfer case and diff. My plan was to care for and keep this truck for 10 years or more. With fluid film and good maintenance and the miles I'm putting on her it might take me 20 years to get to 300,000
I got a 2020 TRD Off-Road and can confirm the stock batteries are kinda crap. Mine died on me out of nowhere and it should have lasted longer. However I replaced it with a very nice interstate AGM battery which has been fantastic. No issues ever since.
i have an 18 with the stock battery lol. Need to do something about that i guess. I did redline in all the diffs and cases, and use Pennzoil ultra platinum oil. The ultra platinum is just about as good as amsoil and redline, but at half the cost. Its a little harder to find than the regular platinum, but the ultra platinum is worth ordering.
@Chiam Rosenberg-Steinwitz Penzoil is definitely good stuff all product levels they sell. Changing fluids regularly is one of the things that I have learned extends life and often avoids some issues with vehicles.
Cool dude thanks for the video everyone wants to see these trucks pushed to the limits but we don't wanna sacrifice our babies damn these trucks are tough
Very cool. My daily driver is a 01 taco w 250,000 miles . A couple front end parts and brake services, cat back exhaust and thats it. Great trucks no matter the vintage .
Ran my 2nd Gen to over 300k and same thing just reliable trucks. GM can’t get an engine to go over 140k these days and a transmission not far behind. Toyota all the way.
I love how this vid showed up in a sea of vids whining about trivial Tacoma problems that mean nothing or boo hooing because the auto trans hunts for gears or it's missing a soccer mom comfort feature. This is why Tacomas still hold value. My favorite part is you trying to think of something that needed to be replaced lol. I have the same truck with 100k and minimal changes, it doesn't manage near the loads that yours does so I expect it'll probably last a lot longer. Thanks for posting this.
Oh god the amount of people that bitch and moan about the "interior being outdated" is laughable. Nobody buys a Toyota because they want a luxurious interior.

Always like hearing about people who get high mileage on a Toyota, especially one they actually use hard and work with.
Awesome to see how you’re using your truck. What’s the gross weight of that trailer load? Have you done any upgrades to improve towing, other than the brake controller?
I bought my 02 Silverado new, the check engine light has never came on ever, has original alternator, belt, plugs and hoses, 400k miles, but I’ve all ways garaged it and change oil every 3k miles, it still runs great, the newer Chevys aren’t as reliable, electric fans computer etc, I also put 285k on my 07 Colorado and 300k on my Chevy HHR, IT is how you take care of it, I also own a new Tacoma, I will NEVER change every 10k like Toyota recommends, every 5, they do use Mobil 1 I do believe my 02 Chevy is more reliable than the newer ones! That’s why you still see so many early 2000s still on the road!

This definitely gives me hope. It's hard to say how good the automatics are, hopefully not terrible. I have a 22 SR5 that I've had for a little over a year now, I'm hoping to get to this mileage eventually
Just take it to the dealer & MAKE SURE they flush it out & change the filter it's a screen if I'm not mistaken from what they were telling me. ❓🤔 But if you get that done I'm sure it will last for almost ever.
You will, the auto trans is solid, very solid. It's just the programming that isn't good. Easy fix. It's built on the exact architecture of the 4runner transmission.

Shows how well Toyota engines are made they really put a lot of effort into these engines.
Thanks alot for sharing this man! This video is gold for 3rd gen owners. The 3rd gens got knocked due to the quirky engine/transmission combo but this proves that in the end it will last. Im so proud of my '21 TRD OR 4x4. I plan to keep it for a VERY long time and this video gives me confidence that it will last :)......I bet youll get 400k
Lol suuuuuureee buddy. Get a 1st gen tundra while u can
@@ToyotaNutjob I got both!
@@ToyotaNutjob Uh, okay? Random ass response.
@@westcoastplinkin6559 nice.. use the 3rd gen as a beater and save that 1st gen. You want to be able to use your 1st gen in 2045 when there's no actual real reliable cars on the road used or new
@@eliasbeas3556 extremely relevant. Especially in these times. Last days of the ice engine. Might aswell get a low mileage 99-06 toyota that will actually last u forever. Theres nice leather trims with everything you need that blow hotter and colder air than any new age junk Toyota and will last until 2050
Good stuff! Really enjoying my 2020 Tacoma. Zero issues after 2.5 Years. This video reaffirms these trucks are still well built and are reliable with high mileage. But my god you drive a lot!
Auto or manual ?
Scotty Kilmer would be proud.
I just bought a 2018 SR 4x4 with a 2 inch lift and BF good rich AT tires. With 80k. Nice to know I bought the right truck. Yours looks good knowing what’s it’s been through! It’s awesome your at 300k and looks and runs as good as it does.
Nice choice.. do you mind sharing how much $ do you paid for it.
Dang, that's a testament to how well those trucks are made. Thanks for your review.
How’s she holding up 8 months later? Current miles?
I’m at 360k. No issues since video. Will make another at 400k
Such a testament to Toyota! I picked up a 2021 TRD 4x4 about 5 months ago. Came out of a F250 4x4 diesel I had for 15 years, so its been a transition for me. She's got 12K on her and one oil change. Your video inspires me and makes me feel good about my purchase, Good work and great video! If I did it over again I think I would get the manual though.
Thanks, I have a 22 as a backup truck that's an auto & they both have their pro's & cons. Definitely don't like the gear hunting in the auto while towing.
Same for me! I came from a 1999 7.3!
@@DUNEATV how's the transition been for you? my heart hurt at first but 6 months in and I'm starting to really like the taco
@@douglasjuvinall3118 I miss the rattling sound of my diesel but I’m really liking the Tacoma. In these crazy times where it cost a lot of money for parts and labor to get repair work done. I am really glad I switched to the taco!
I’d recommend replacing the oil sooner than 10k, especially at that oil weight. I’m still doing 5K with amsoil.
Does it sound like a diesel like mine ?!? Lol
I finally picked up a '19 TRD off road 4x4, and seeing videos like this always reassures me that I made a good decision 🤘
This is the kinda reviews I like , from real people !
Love the color and how the truck looks generally, I love toyota Tacos, I believe in working on your own vehicle and using it as a tool and not as a pavement princess. I'll see you at 400k if you make a new video
Yeah glad to see this guy does truck things with his taco and doesn’t just use it as a mall crawler
I just put the first dent/scratch on my 2020 3rd gen. It wears it like a badge of honor.
This is exactly what I wanna be doing with my Tacoma! Lol immediately subscribed when I saw the dump trailer being towed with it lol
Awesome trailer!
Thanks for the review we just picked up a 2017 with 139k and we're wondering how good they go
I was wondering if there were any 3rd gens out there with 300k miles, I was skeptical about this engine but now I'm not, especially because you work your truck. 5k oil changes are key. Nice review.
I have a ‘17 manual made in texas it’s been excellent
He actually changed the oil at 10k for the majority of its life! 5k changes don't actually make a difference.
Good job 👍🏻!
wait 91 actually better than 87 for the tacoma? i just picked mine up 3 months ago been running on 87 and im avarage 17 mpg for some reason :(
You can use 87 octane but the truck will feel like a dog , the 3.5L that’s in the Tacoma has high compression ratio of 11.6:1 it will liven up after a few fill ups of 91 , my wife’s Lexus GS350 has the same motor and it says use 91 octane when you open the fuel door . This 2GR-FKS is a beast of a motor it’s very robust it has a 6 bolt main . Louts has it in their sports car it’s the exact motor they borrowed it from Toyota and pumps out almost 500 hp..
@@peterhoma6385 oh interesting. Thank you I’ll try to put 91 in and see if it would make a difference!
@@peterhoma6385 I can’t wait to see the improvements
@@peterhoma6385 I have a Lexus GS350 AWD very rare to see those fail. I read reviews before I bought it and the only complaint was the infotainment. The sedan has a full time AWD 70/30 planetary xfercase with a lockup if it slips. Very reliable setup.
I use regular gas in mine, maybe it would have a bit more power.
It’s been almost a year, give us an update? 👀
I will at 400k. Just rolled 370k
Awesome 😎! I have a 2018 TRD off-road 6 ft bed auto. I only have 30,000 mi. Lol It doesn't get driven as much as I'd like because I travel a lot and I'm out of town all the time. But I love my truck. Thank you 👍
Very impressed with how well this truck has treated you while putting it to work daily. Great to see!
Impressive man I’m glad to see Toyota reliability is still unmatched. Now I need 318 out of my ‘19 and 400 out the wife’s Camry!.
Sell that junk and get a 99-2006 toyota... 1st gen tundra , lx450, 3.5 gen camry, lexus es300 01 etc
Camry 8 speeds are having a lot of issues!
Great vid. I have a ‘17 Tacoma off road with automatic trans. Bought her new. Still has the original brakes. 195k. Zero issues. Drives like the day I bought her.
I have a 17 trd sport with 125k. I would love to see a video of your rig.
I'm still driving my 96 Tacoma that I purchased in late 95, 295k miles.
Still amazes me that people will still swear on GM, Ford and Fiat products knowing they own unreliable products 😂.
I saw a third gen 4 cylinder for sale on auto trader was a 2018 with 380k. Dealer wanted $16,900 for it ! Might still be on there. Would definitely take a fool to pay that much for it
How rusted is the frame? Did you ever coat it?
Can you do a walk around of your daily Tacoma you drive?
And its a manual?! What a beauty. That's a forever truck for sure.
Cool dude thanks for the video everyone wants to see these trucks pushed to the limits but we don't wanna sacrifice our babies damn these trucks are tough
Wow, makes me feel good about buying my 2023 Tacoma which is my first Toyota.
Holy hell. Original clutch too. That makes me happy. I have 40k on my 19 OR 6MT right now.
Quite impressive indeed.
Very cool. My daily driver is a 01 taco w 250,000 miles . A couple front end parts and brake services, cat back exhaust and thats it. Great trucks no matter the vintage .
Enduro, I’m going to share this to Tacoma World forum on a mileage map thread and credit you. This is great work.
Ran my 2nd Gen to over 300k and same thing just reliable trucks. GM can’t get an engine to go over 140k these days and a transmission not far behind. Toyota all the way.
I have the same exact truck myen only has 34000 miles on it. Based on your video my truck should easily last the rest of my life.
Mine 2006 had almost 200000 original clutch use 4wd all the time 4 different people learned on it my kid wrecked it my buddy has 2009 with 300000 original clutch ranch truck still going
Thanks for the share! I've not had one of the newer 3.5 V6 models, but I've wondered how they would hold up long term. This is awesome to see, hope it keeps on performing well for you. Always like hearing about people who get high mileage on a Toyota, especially one they actually use hard and work with.
A mechanic on this platform called the V6 bulletproof.
I have a ‘17 manual and it’s been excellent
how much do you tow weight wise?
Awesome to see how you’re using your truck. What’s the gross weight of that trailer load? Have you done any upgrades to improve towing, other than the brake controller?
That’s what I was wondering! Did he put a max tow package on this? Because it seems he’s towing significant weight!
Wondering the same
Put a normal American flag on it
I bought my 02 Silverado new, the check engine light has never came on ever, has original alternator, belt, plugs and hoses, 400k miles, but I’ve all ways garaged it and change oil every 3k miles, it still runs great, the newer Chevys aren’t as reliable, electric fans computer etc, I also put 285k on my 07 Colorado and 300k on my Chevy HHR, IT is how you take care of it, I also own a new Tacoma, I will NEVER change every 10k like Toyota recommends, every 5, they do use Mobil 1 I do believe my 02 Chevy is more reliable than the newer ones! That’s why you still see so many early 2000s still on the road!
I sold my tacoma for a 2021 silverado 3.0 diesel crew cab. Regerts. Those tacomas are PERFECTION.
*edit* unloaded the chebby and picked up a '21 TRD OR.
Didn't like the baby dmax?
@@endurocox5467 it had DEF and hard start issues, so I sent it down the road.
Well I was bouncing around which truck I wanted. Couldn't settle on anything but honestly after seeing this and reading about the reliability of these trucks I put a deposit on a new 2023 model
Enduro Cox,
I'm considering buying either a 2018 Tacoma or a 2018 4Runner, and the number one con on the Tacoma I've heard is it handles worse and is less comfortable than the 4Runner. Thoughts? Appreciate your time. :)
Never owned a 4Runner. I’d say longevity wise the 4.0 in the 4Runner would last longer.
Love to see a truck used as a tool, not a toy.
Glad to see that Tacoma is holding up. I might have to get a new 23 before Toyota ruins it with their redesign.
Thank you for posting this. I have an automatic V6 access cab 2022 Off Road trim. I use it for only camping stuff and I work at home so I'm not going to rack miles as fast. It's good to know that the V6 can make it to 300k bc lots of people doubt it in comparison to the reputable V4. You abate my fear. And no, I'm not going to tune it since it never bother me that much. Unless someone who tuned their car gets 300k+ then I'll reconsider.
The newer models are sketchy. A lot more reported problems/lemons, etc. I won't go near anything 4th gen and up.
I had a 1999 tacoma up till 2 days ago it had 255k and I thought I put alot on lol sheesh
Why not do 5K oil changes?
I only have 36k on my 2018. Mine the same color. I’m 61, it should last me the rest of my life. My son has a 2020.
Yaaaa buddy... I am at 153k on my 2017 ... no plans of ever getting rid of her ... glad to see this, only difference is mine is A/T .. wish I had gotten M/T but I was impatient and bought the one off the lot haha ... love it 😎 .. mine is just getting broken in and while I do use it for truck stuff and off road, I'd say you use yours much more heavily than mine... sweet

That truck is solid AF. Nice work! 🎉
I hope I can get my ‘20 Tundra to 300k too.

Have you ever change the transmission fluid? If so, how often?
I'm curious about this too!

Now that's how you review a truck👍🏻
Wow! Awesome testimonial for Tacoma!
@Enduro Cox - You've run 0W-20 oil the entire time ?
600 miles on my new 2023 TRD OR and hope to get to the same place as you. Cheers, great video!
Yep. 0w-20 from day 1.
This definitely gives me hope. It's hard to say how good the automatics are, hopefully not terrible. I have a 22 SR5 that I've had for a little over a year now, I'm hoping to get to this mileage eventually
Change the trans fluid every 60K (for normal driving) and you should be good.
I was on track for that kind of miles until my work moved about 5 miles away from me. Now I fill up about every three weeks instead of every three days.
