I know, but I believe that's what makes it so interesting and fun. In every other game, the mother would've been way more scary and intimidating than the daughter - like, obviously. But they did it differently, in a way you could still enjoy the story and it just feels so refreshing to have a story like this where you can not tell everything that is going to happen without even playing the game to the end.
They did a fantastic job with the design of the character's personalities, it actually impresses me more than the graphics.

It also it suggests the blood disease that damages her makes her regenerate. So she eats man flesh to counter the damage, but it makes her grow.

At least now we know why Ethan's blood tastes "stale" to Lady D, but what blows my mind is how Lady D's daughters are alphabetically named from Alcina, to Bela, to Cassandra to Daniela.

Think its a “no brainer” for Capcom to make a Lady D focused DLC. It would basically be a license to print money for them.
DLC, a spinoff game or saving them for the next game. They knew the Dimitrescus became insanely popular and they can make a ton of money if they make more content with them.

Still disappointed she wasn't the main villain or at the very least, given more screen time and development. She was formidable and complex, I just want to know everything about her. Hottness aside, she is truly fascinating. She was able to create 3 sentient beings from her experiments, she loves the arts, and she is skilled at wine making. Capcom really knocked it out of the park with her. Kudos to Maggie Robertson for bringing her to life, she truly nailed the performance. I hope there is a way Lady Dimitrescu can return to the games/ be revived, along with her girls. My favourite level was the Castle, I adored the lavish setting and seeing the Dimitrescu family dynamic. At the end of the day, she is a loving, devoted mother to her daughters which forms a closenit, warm family that just so happen need blood to survive.
Think Capcom didn't expect her to be this popular. But out of all of the lord's she did had the most screentime
@@emilyjaybeauty4269 I never even considered comparing her screentime to the other Lords! I've been so wrapped up in Maggie Robertson's performance. I believe you are right, she has about twenty minutes of glorious screentime, fishboy, Donna, have the least. Miranda and Heisenberg would be the next two to have the signifiant screentime. Since she pursues Ethan about the castle, she really has more of a substantial role when one factors that in. Thank you, you brought a bit of cheer to my day.

Too bad she could not put two and two together soon enough to realize that ethan's blood was stale because was infected as well and therefore he is stronger than he looks. She kept thinking he was a common "man thing" but he wasn't.

@@briansmith2739 No, I think she learned that when she cut off his hand yet he reattached it. But she was so mad at him for killing all her daughters that she didn't care at that point. She was mad beyond the point of return. She should have learned about it sooner, meaning before she allowed her daughters to go up against him one by one. She let them go after him because she didn't think he was that much of a threat. Afterall they did bring him to her once, when he first got in the castle.
the biggest disappointment of this game was that you couldn't retrieve the death of flowers dagger after it fell. I'm still super curious about it's lore.

I honestly think that CapCom didn’t anticipate the excitement that Lady D would bring. Like the world went crazy when she debuted😂 she is dope tho and is very different from what we’re used to in a RE game.

Yeah this guy clearly doesn't do any research outside of the game and his own opinions.
She was most likely born around 1916 and favored fashion from the 30s.
They seem to have put in way more effort for Lady D’s part compared to other lords aside from Heisenberg. She has an entire castle dedicated to her and she actively hunts you down like Mr X or Nemesis, the slimy dude literally got 1 boss fight and almost no build up.
Yep and she still has the probably the least actual screen time. Maybe they cut a lot of her portion out of the game and put it in dlc
We just ignoring Donna and angie. Donna is a really fleshed out character who uses angie as an outlet for an exaggeration of what she wanted to be, plus literally the first thing she did with her "powers" is try to help the gardener see his dead family
@@strvmpet I might even go one step further and say Moreau's backstory is pretty interesting, being he's the one who created the bastarding Lycan's after becoming a lord because he could do as he wished but he saw no love in his former life by the people who lived around him nor does he get it from the other lords.
I think storytelling wise this is Resident Evil hitting its peak.
And Donna only got a game of Hide and Seek, you don't even really fight her. On my second run through the game I did her part within 15 minutes.. Lady D took 48. I would have loved more to do with Donna.
That's because the Castle and vampires were the earliest ideas for Village, despite this they still end up playing a minor role, the other house leaders have even less screen time. the villains and villagers should've been more fleshed out.
The dagger doesn't turn her into a dragon. She has the ability to change into it at will, similar to Moreau and Heisenberg with their cadou forms. She even mentions during the boss fight that Ethan is the only other person, aside from Miranda, to see her in this form. At 2:47: "Arbitrarily able to control body transformation"
actually Moreau can't. In Miranda's journal about him in her lab she mentions this
i believe its stated that lady D requires blood and flesh to prevent rapid mutation... as stated in miranda's research notes. as stated, if imbalanced she would mutate rapidly - thus an unsuitable candidate for eveline... my theory is that the dagger caused her to lose blood that kept her body in check, therefore transforming her rapidly.
@@roblaccitello3140 That's what I thought too, either that or as Erwin stated - she took too much damage and was kind of forced to transform due to losing so much blood.
I thought her ability to “Arbitrarily control body transformation” was her ability to retain a human form as well as grow the claws as will in contrast to Moreau who is unable to control the human form. I kind of thought that the dagger was coated in a ton of poisons it corrupted all of the blood making it unable to use the blood within her causing the runaway mutation into the dragon, much like Moreau into his fish form where it was unwilling

He seems a little stale to Lady D but to her daughters, who are basically bugs, he tastes fine.

Not every bug does, but the daughters are made of flies so that would be accurate.
Ethan isn't decomposing tho he's just a perfect mold replicant. He tastes stall because he isn't real flesh, bone and blood but mold replicating it

It is a shame, she got all that hype in the RE Village trailers and was the first demo only to be an early exit from the game. I honestly expected her to be the big boss before Mother Miranda

Actually she is one of the few bosses that didn't fully calcify when she was beaten, only the top part. So assuming there's enough to regenerate..
To me, the Duke was a very nice character. Sure, he’d request money for everything Ethan needed. But he did facilitate Ethan’s quest to save Rose, nonetheless.

When I found out about Lady Dimitrescu concept I immediately thought of Countess Elizabeth Báthory, a murderous Hungarian noblewoman (killing her maidens or countrywomen, drinking their blood a bathing in it to remain her young look).

Alcina needing to consume flesh and blood to control her blood disease and transformation is so interesting. Lady D being a minor villain is so disappointing and I was thinking that she'd be Mother Miranda's second in command. I even thought that most of the game was going to take place in the Castle despite the other house leaders.
Hopefully Capcom will make up for shifting the game's marketing on her by making DLC showing her backstory or imply that she's still alive. They know Lady D blew up online so they made her the face of the game and It would be such a waste if they didn't do anything else with her.
Not having played the game since it's a long time coming from the throwback days residents evil series and I can say that I believe alcina was 2nd in charge til she was talking on phone to MM and caught wind of her much enraging failure, then passed the torch to heisenberg wtf ever his name is to see if he will fair better than her hence their bickering like (siblings).

I never knew vampires were so unaware of thier own surroundings that some man could just roam around in thier own home unnoticed.
It is a big home. With lots of passages for likely servants to get through.
Technically she's not exactly a vampire.
Well, she is not a vampire, neither her daughters, they only have vampire-traits -like. So, no supernatural abilities for lady or her daughters like teleportation or things like that.
Don't forget they don't have any detection devices like cctv whatsoever, the castle is enormous, so much for small rooms and halls everywhere and hidden. The lady and her daughters are the only sane enough to handle Ethan, her slaves are mindless and only live to be slaughtered by Lady or Ethan.
I think it makes sense.

Something I’m not seeing talked about much is the fun fact that lady D had a mirror but broke to makes the scene have a greater meaning and look cooler, but it also stops us from seeing Ethan’s face

You wouldn't have been able to see a reflection unless they built it into the game. Mirrors in games don't actually use reflections, they use clever tricks to mimic mirrors. When Lady D is looking in the mirror, that's actually just another 3D model of her on the other side, made to mirror the position/movements.

@pinpoint45 That's for screen space reflections, which are diminished in quality and not mirror reflections. Mirror reflections are still more efficient, because using "virtual cameras" is what would double the rendering demands, effectively halving the frame rate. Pretty much 100% of the time, what you see in mirrors are either screen space reflections, and thus muddled and blurry and not actual reflections, or complete mirror models. For example, in the latest hitman, when you see yourself in reflections, that's actually not screen space occlusion. It's a literal mirrored model of the scene overlayed on the glass. Poly count isn't actually a giant issue in modern games. There's some space games from years ago, where each ship has over 1 million poly's each (and a lot of that can be reduced based on distance). As long as you are overall within a certain threshold, games will run just fine. Poly count doesn't really effect frame rate that much these days, even with AA applied, because details smaller than a pixel don't even enter the antialiasing pipeline, thus you're not actually antialiasing every poly.

I'm pretty sure she was still very classy and graceful, she was a Jazz singer called Lady D with the Pallboys (?) and from what i know she has also been pretty wealthy

That line killed me. I remember when we all thought that she was literally going to be the main antagonist but she's literally the first boss you defeat. The first time I defeated her I just felt so goddamn empty. She really should have had a much bigger role. :(
There is a voice line during her boss fight where she says only mother Miranda has seen her in that form.
That means the poison dagger isnt really an issue forcing her to transform, she can mutate and turn into a monster on her own.
I believe the dagger was supposed to be used on her heart, like the stake on a vampire. That would certainly kill her. However, stab her flank was enough to weaken her, and enough to neutralize her regeneration. Without her super regeneration she is forced to take the dragon form to survive.
I thought she said only Cassandra had seen her in that form.
@@Itariatan no, it waa mother miranda. Mother miranda did the experiment to begin with and took notes on everything it did for Alcina. So it makes sense that miranda would want her to mutate for her so she knew what she was capable of

Apparently back in RE:7, Mia's father, Jack Baker, captured and murdered Ethan as he was investigating at the Baker house. While Ethan remained dead, he was infected and fused with metamycytes(not sure if the spelling lol, correct me if I'm wrong) and was revived back but surprisingly his mind is sane and he was just himself. He's a rare case of metamycyte being, a sane inanimate being. That's why he can re-attach his body parts back and regenerate.
It only took Ethan to realize that he wasn't a human anymore after the boss fight with Heisenberg and getting visions from Eveline.

I love that this game was a love letter to multiple horror genres and tropes, and basically the last 10 years of horror games. But Lady Dimitrescu deserved a lot more time, as did her castle. Feels like such a shame that it was merely one of four fun houses for Ethan to explore, and not even the largest one

I really wish we got to see more of Lady Dimitrescu's backstory. Seeing her backstory is the most interesting part of RE8 to me. And she definetly has some big backstory potential and hopefully we'll see some more of Lady Dimitrescu in future games. Because no one ever really dies in Resident Evil unless they're in a building that self destructs

I think it’s amazing the impact she had not being the main villain. I didn’t play the demo and I didn’t play the game but I love the character. That’s incredible.

Lady D being the first Lord we face is actually very good, story wise.
Lady D has daughters and Ethan has to kill them in order to try to find his own daughter. So in his quest to claim his child she ends up killing someone else's.
Her castle also reminds players of the Spencer Mansion in some way.
I also think the reason she was the first lord to be taken down is because she saw herself above the other lords and even one of her diary pages says why does mother Miranda treat me the same as them? So seeing lady dimitrescu being the first lord we fight and take down makes sense. Still wish they gave her a little bit more screen time
Seeing her transformation reminded me so much of of Alexia in Code: Veronica. The body shape and structure looked so much like Alexia when she transformed it's crazy. I really think that a large part of the appreciation I have for this game is all of the small throwbacks and nostalgia that they managed to nail within this game.

It can be because his whole body is mold the clothes he wears are made of it also. So they heal.
I really wish her area and boss fight was more towards the end of the game, they really made it seem like she was going to be such a major part of the game, and it seemed like she was a lot more important than the other Lord's.
Angie's area felt so quick and short, and Moreau's whole thing was that the others don't even like him that much or he gets made fun of a lot.. Lady D was the only one besides Heisenberg with lackies or mini bosses and I think her story just made it seem like she was SUPPOSED to be second in command to Miranda.
It just sucks to see her go so early, I was hoping she could've proven to Miranda that she was stronger than the others or something.
