I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one who sighed relief reading the paper in the game and watching this video about this Duke being a copy and not the main Duke being evil. The man is to awesome to be turned like that. Bet the developers even noticed how much the RE fan base fell in love with duke so they decided to mess with us some lol. My man could never be evil and glad he isn't
I'm glad this isn't the real duke only an evil copy. I personally really liked the duke both his design and personally. I wounder if will see more of him or maybe a new merchant in resident evil 9.
I wouldn't mind if the Duke turns out to be evil.

uhhh does no one read the lore seriously the masked duke is basically his past hell if anything this implies hes infected with the mold and went from evil to being a good guy unless i missed him being killed at some point if not then this is just a memory imprint of who he was and all
I doubt that someone that is part of a secretive sect of merchants that has close contact/dealt with biological freaks is anyone thats truly good, any compentent merchant do attempt to give us a good impression to be able to sell their wares after all.
Kinda sad to think that Rose wouldn't be alive today without the Duke but her only experience with him was with this twisted version of him. It would be akward as hell for her to meet the real Duke after watching this one take pleasure in killing and mutilating her over and over again

Aaron LaPlante, did a terrific job voicing the Duke. From his smooth sales pitches as a merchant in the main story, to a cold and diabolical monster in the SOR mission, he nailed it on both. He really gave both characters a lot of depth.
He did and it was just perfect his voice is amazing and he smashed that role absolutely
If Mark Hamill ever hangs it up I'd like to see Aaron replace him in a lot of his roles. I had to goggle search to see if they traded out Aaron for Mark in the DLC because there were so many moments I thought it might have been him

My biggest peeve is that they made no mention of Mia, She was literally a Protagonist and antagonist in RE7 and got completely disregarded. Only Rose saying "Havent seen Mom in ages" and I keep wondering Why the whole game with no Answer

@@nairbdelrey1561 yeah at first she was kinda lucky she got out scot free maybe it was because after when she revealed that Ethan was infected with the mold as well ans they just wonder how many secrets did she keep from them she was probably able to raise rose for the first few years until Chris decided to arrest her maybe she revealed another dark secret probably about rose which is why Chris decided to take things into his own hands
I like the idea that the duke was a lord for Miranda but broke free and decided to take revenge by working against her and helping Ethan which is why Miranda created this copy of him as a sort of petty revenge I suppose
If the duke was the original fifth lord i wonder if it would have played out like the dlc did in some way too

I'm pretty sure Duke mentions that he has done business with Miranda and the other Lord's when you first meet him as Ethan.
As long as the real Duke is alive and well, that's all that matters. He was one of the best new characters we've gotten in Resident Evil. Mysterious, strange, silly, and helpful, right up there with his buddy, the Merchant.
Sadly, considering the megamycete only preserves the image of the people who’ve died in close proximity, im not sure if he could be alive still. But im still hopeful 😭💔

Things went left for Duke when Dimitrescu's magnificent waistline ceased to exist .
In the game they call him Masked Man. That should have been clue #1 that it wasn’t actually the duke. The mask wasn’t hiding anything from us. It’s clearly an evil doppelgänger created by Miranda.
My curiosity lies with why the 4 lords weren’t present. Did Miranda erase them? Were they not strong enough to manifest their own stratum’s?
I was hoping the four lords would make an appearance in their own stratum.
Maybe Miranda tought the duke would be more formidable, since clearly he is the one who managed to wriggle out of her control unlike the other lords.
@@AdaTheWatcheror she only had enough strength to make one copy and thought remaking the Duke was better since Lady D likes to move slow (and would probably bother her about her not bringing her daughters back) and Donna does illusions but past that isnt much of a threat, Heisenberg would just turn in her again and Monroe was considered a failed experiment anyways so she probably thought bringing him back would be a waste leaving her with the Duke
i was actually relieved when I found out it wasn't really duke- Duke is such a bro and makes the save rooms in village feel all the more safe and cozy and the thought of him being turned evil was upsetting
It's likely Miranda copied the Duke because he's the most powerful of the lords and wanted him to aid her in obtaining the real Rose, however, the real Duke was too powerful for her to locate, let alone, control. Of everyone, the Duke seems to be the most attuned to the Megamycete network (which explains how he always knows what's going on, can travel/teleport, and is able to repeatedly avoid detection). Referring back to RE lore, the Duke is Tyrant-level class. His body is large and deformed likely because he's always on the verge of mutation (like Lady D). He has to continuously feed himself to prevent losing control. This instability may explain why Miranda's copy of him is incomplete.
That all aside, I wouldn't have been opposed to Duke turning on us, but not like this. I feel like the Duke is TOO powerful to ever serve as Miranda's lackey. He's also TOO smart to kill just for kicks or for primal needs. I feel like an evil Duke would act on Wesker's level of intelligence, being ten steps ahead always with bigger schemes in mind.

Miranda is the type to torture tons of people. In the meta of things... don't you think she's also torturing the player, remember how she taunted Rose by making up an illusion? Were leas to believe that this was a way to rid the powers of the mold by finding a crystal. Some that was a normal item in our journey.

i find it funny to think now that before resident evil village came out, most people weren't confident about the duke, afraid he would be forgettable and uninteresting... but it turns out he was a pretty memorable character with interesting background to cover and charisma worth a million.

There was a theory that Miranda used heisenburgs memories to create the masked Duke as he controls the face eaters and the bigger one that's called the hound like how Karl controlled a lot of the lycans and made his robot lycan army and the Duke used tvs to talk to Rose like Karl did to Ethan

I wonder if the Masked Duke is closer to what he could have been if he was an antagonist/a Lord in the main game. In keeping with classic movie references with the other Lords, the Masked Duke could be associated with The Blob (if one is going for the movie reference and weird biological goop) or an ogre, considering the mention of a consuming hunger in his note.
I also wonder if he’s based on some sort of gothic villain/creature that hunts humans.
Was his hunger talked about in RE8?
@@starscream4812 I just went back over the scenes with the Duke in the main game, and hunger itself isn’t specifically mentioned. He is, however, giant, obese, and surrounded by food and other items in his cart. His clothes, albeit small for him, are well made, and he has rings on almost every finger that curls around a cigar. He certainly seems grounded in earthly appetites; food and money (the motto on the owl tapestry also referring to money). There’s also the fact that the upgrade mechanic for Ethan is to find ingredients and bring them back to the Duke and use the Duke’s Kitchen section to make dishes that increase his physical stats, and they’re not basic recipes.
Personally since ethan's invisibility was explained I wouldn't be surprised if there is an explanation for duke being able to be in the village without anyone bothering him. He may have been a previous lord who betrayed miranda or simply one of her failed experiments she didn't bother to dispose. But her werewolves recognize him as one of the lords so they don't harm and the lords don't bother with him.

Supposedly there is gonna be more DLC from what I've heard.
I've come to a theory about the dolls. What if the Black-haired doll is Eveline. Maybe the doll sets are telling that Eveline made Rose hallucinate girls bullying her so that she would grow to hate her powers. Instead of learn them and become more powerful. Since it's proved that even the dead can make living people connected to the mold see things. Miranda had her master plan to get her vessel even after 16 years (Ethan still fighting her to protect rose like the god father he is), while Evelines master plan was to eliminate her replacement.
I'm certain that the black-haired doll is supposed to be Eveline, just like the blonde one is supposed to be Rose. Obviously, Eveline didn't name the black-haired doll (like she did the other dolls) so as not to give away her intentions or the fact that she's involved in the whole thing. I never figured that Eveline created illusions of other kids bullying Rose in order to make her hate her powers and want to come there in the first place, although that would be quite a master plan. Seems a bit much for a 10-year-old, though. I thought that the doll sets and the later part where the massive doll heads all stare at Rose and taunt her were just replicating memories that Rose had of kids bullying her. It would make sense that the people and things inside the Megamycete could access her memories and use them against her.
I have a theory that Angie and Eveline are connected in a way I don't think Donna feels the things that Angie feels and says I think Angie has her own personality
They had similar lines about being jealous of Rose
"I would've made a better daughter than Rose" similar to "But they are completely obsessed with stupid old Rose!"
"Everything would be better if Rose wasnt born" is similar to "If you had never been born it would've been perfect!"
"You do this to Rose too?!" Similar to "You won't get the crystal by slicing open your friends!"
Even crazier is that Angie and Eveline share the same voice actress
Another similarity is that Angie watches you the whole time during village in the beneviento section you can see her in the corner by one of the doors at one point. In the dlc during the part where you find the dolls to complete the dioramas you get this doll with black hair and a blue dress. She only is in the campfire diorama and she just watches. I think this doll was eveline watching Rose getting tormented and watching her all around the house
@@GlitchyHalo I like this theory a lot! Especially knowing that the black-haired doll description in the game says it's based on a legend of a witch - knowing that Miranda helped create Eveline and how her powers could definitely be seen as witchy, I wonder if that legend is about her?
I’d love to have Lady D back, she was such a great character for the game and was killed off too quickly, maybe they could have her return from the dragons corpse left in the castle, as if a part of her lived on.
I know there are a lot of interesting theories on the Duke but if he's in the Megamycete's consciousness where at the start before Rose entered its consciousness, it was stated that the mold absorbs those within proximity who has passed away, would this not confirm that The Duke is actually dead? But knowing he had like some sort of powers where he could easily teleport around to wherever Ethan would be next, I would surely think he would have escaped somehow.
There are clones of rose and she’s not dead. The fact that it’s the duke and NOT one of the lords proves to me he’s still alive

Is it possible that he's connected to the Megamycete but not dead, like how Rose is or perhaps was dead but revived and broken away to form his own will like Ethan did with the mold from the Baker Residence?
@Nicholas Holladay-Elser I went to relook at the notes and I feel it can confirm that he is alive and managed to escape. "Miranda's research claims that the Megamycete preserves the memories of people who passed away within it's area of influence - absorbing them into its own vast consciousness." And "Any organisms that made physical contact with the Mold would have their genetic code assimilated by the fungus." So the masked duke could be created because the real duke had physical contact while being in the area in RE8, helping Ethan so he had some genetic code that was captured by the Megamycete. The fact that they specifically mentioned his memories were broken and not preserved means that he did NOT pass away and likely did escape and is alive. But the bigger question now is, is this HIS broken memories or just the memories of someone else that she merged with the entity of the masked duke? If it is in fact his memories, it would mean that he has a hidden dark side that we did not know about which would be the true horror.
@@neekolezx I mean a mix would explain the messed up face he has behind that mask as the kind of mixing of identities may confuse the entity into not knowing what kind of face it's supposed to have, which could explain why his minions have either no face (too little or to diluted memories) or too many faces (A large clashing of memories and identities that just leaves pure instinct).
But if it is just the Duke there, then it may not be a reflection of him. If you strip someone down far enough, break a person into fine enough pieces, you are sure to find some part that relishes in the pain of others in some way that maybe even the way can be stripped. Like editing 'I like it when bad people get hurt because they deserve it' to 'I like it when people hurt'. The removal of context may cause an entity void of nearly anything else to cling to it as the last ember of self until everything becomes an expression of that thing, that thing is me so it must be good, it must be right.
Now imagine if rose meets the duke irl

I had a feeling that the Duke was definitely one of the four lords. The fact alone that he can exist in the village alone without seemingly getting attacked shows he might just be more powerful or just as Miranda, especially since he had an uncanny ability to recognize those afflicted by the Megamycede (the statue of Lady D for example or the vial parts of Rose when Ethan found her head). I wouldn't doubt the Merchant in 4 is also a Lord seeing as they're "friends", and he has a similar background
Just knowing that wasn't the actual Duke we all know and love makes me feel better. But he definitely has to still be alive as he is such a mysterious character and heck...he can't be human of course. Maybe we will get more info in future games
I was in shocked once i seen the duke in the trailer of Shadow of Rose i was like no way! Because the duke been there for Ethan the whole way and was so kind to help him out to find Rose

Everything that happens in this dlc is aTwisted-version of Ethan's Memories... Makes sense that Miranda would twist Ethan's only "friend" from Village into the main Monster of this one.. Since Ethan knows the other Lord's are Dead.

You have to love the OG duke. Your running for your life and suddenly you burst into a room where this giant man smiles at you and offers his merchant services.
Even though the Duke is a clone, it kind of reveals that the real Duke is somewhat sadistic and has the power to manipulate red-like mold to create an army of Face Eaters. The merchants of Resident Evil are mysterious and powerful. They cannot be killed, beaten, betrayed, or crossed. The Duke's powers and intelligence are probably why the 4 Lords and their mutated armies avoid him. This can probably be applied to the Merchant in Resident Evil 4 who might be a powerful wielder of Las Plagas who Saddler cannot defeat.
It makes me happy to think that the Duke, enigmatic, quick-travelling, and seemingly everywhere as he is in the base game, was truly able to escape the explosion. It also makes me happy to see an Evil Lord version of the Duke; I remember geeking out so hard at my first viewing of the Masked Duke
I'd like to believe that the real Duke got out of the blast radius in time before Ethan leveled the village and survived it. He's still out there somewhere galavanting across Europe selling his wares to those he acquaints. This horrible copy Miranda created died with her when Rose put her down for good. 😊

I think it's Miranda taking the form of the Duke. The mask is similar to what Miranda wears. Also, Miranda has always had a desire to find the perfect vessel to revive Eva.
Oh thank god, watching a friend play and got mad as hell that our homie Duke was a bad guy and I refused to believe any explanation that didn't flat out disprove it somehow.
I've felt so hurt over the fate of the Lords that I can't even bring myself to watch the dlc about the Mushrooms kid.

I actually like to think that at SOME point this was the actual duke. I wonder if Miranda actually conjured an older evil version of the duke before he allegedly turned on her in the real world to help Ethan. It was always teased that he could’ve been a lord.
I love the duke he is so friendly yet so.. disturbing.. the second i see him like this in the dlc i kinda was sad and almost angry. But im glad to know this was all just some sort of messed up nightmare.

I always wondered if Lady dimitrescu drinking the blood from Ethan's hand meant anything. Wouldn't that make her assimilate his blood? Also the crystalized bodies the Lord's left behind is no different from Rose's baby body being crystalized so couldn't they be revived? For some reason the Duke bought the corpses. It's like Miranda wanted to get rid of em while the Duke wanted to have them for himself.
This 'Duke' was a fusion of Lucas and Alcina, through and through. The CRT fetish and Castle were dead giveaways.
The Duke was initially going to be the fifth lord of Mother Miranda, but was cut and instead turned to be a merchant, also if you look at the guest book the duke has had some sort of meeting with her, still it is never revealed why they meet or why he has a room in the castle.
So, this being is not "The Duke" but a philosophical zombie or philosophical Frankenstein to be more accurate. A personality pieced together through the memories from the original and those who knew him. Fascinating even though it was a disastrous failure.
I think, it's a version of him. An evil side that's inside him and never lets out.

I knew that the Duke was a big man but his hands were just unnaturally huge compared to Rosemary's face.
It looks like the Masked Duke is a giant version of him. The girth is just as huge on the real Duke, but his height is shorter than the replica.
soo... If you play the game or watch someone play it you know from the start it was not duke but a copy of him.
MIRANDA was trying some new experiment of replica ROSE and thats why she created fakeduke to hunt down every last one who try to escape.

Well Jack and Marguerite Baker started out good before they were twisted by Eveline. Even though the Masked Duke is just a dark reflection and imitation and not really him, it could be something related to that type of effect by coming up with a twisted and opposite variant from the fragments of the real Duke only it’s Mother Miranda doing the twisting
I hope in the future games that the duke shows up that would be cool

Didn’t “K” say in notes that anyone who dies near the megamicite will have its memories like for example during the beginning when arose is having the thing before waking up wherever you can hear Heisenberg’s voice but also the dukes so technically doesn’t that mean the duke died because Maranda died yet she’s still alive because she died before the Megamycite so whatever the mega one had could have transferred to the Muta one
Well there was a entry that told the people who gelled up with the megamycete will retain their faculty in the stratum.
Maybe miranda knew that duke has faculties like those face sucking monsters
Given that Miranda was testing Ethan, the Duke was never really standing in opposition of Miranda. He never really expressed any distain for her or any of the other Lords if I recall(although I'm sure he didn't favor them) He came across kinda neutral. I believe Miranda just let him do his thing cause it would just be beneficiary to her and the towns people who served her to have SOME connection to the outside world. In the end he was a Lord that was a dedicated to his business and loyal to his favorite Customer.
i think in DLC explain how duke able to travel different places. that swarm of flesh or blood. i think that is his ability.

It’s clear to me know the duke is chasing these roses to find the perfect vessel for eva !! That’s why he wants them to run and escape!!!
I like the idea that while Duke was a Lord of the Megamycete and was defiant to Miranda, he was still THE most powerful of her lords. Because of the events of Village's main story, the rest of the Lords were proven to be a massive disappointment by not helping Miranda succeed in her goals AKA they lost to Ethan. Even further, Heisenberg was defiant cause he knew the truth behind his "family:" that they were a means to an end and were going to be cast aside if she achieved in reviving her actual child. So while Miranda could've seen the real Duke as a threat to her, his connections to the Megamycete were more than enough for her to take advantage of his powers within it. After all, he's probably still the only one who hasn't truly disappointed her. He didn't technically lose.

None of this DLC made any sense. All of this, including Duke, Miranda, Miranda's daughter, Ethan, etc are supposed to be contained within this sample of the destroyed megamycete? How is a crystal in "the land of make believe" supposed to do anything for Rose? How is it that imaginary versions of her are "incomplete"?
