      I have never programmed on the NES but generally using time for random variables is very common even nowadays. Computers are not truly random and the random number generators just use a series of calculations to produce a sequence of numbers that appear random. The first input in that sequence is commonly called the seed, if you start the sequence with the same seed you will get the exact same sequence of pseudo random numbers. I order to add some more randomness we usually don't hardcode the seed into the software, but we use something like the time instead. Because the users will not all start the game at the exact same time it will appear random to them.

    I imagine you'd need emulator brute forcing tools to find all those favorable Bowser/firebar patterns to chain together. And is there a limit to how long a runner can reasonably wait on the title screen to advance the RNG? And with such low odds, suppose the first favorable pattern required several minutes of sitting on the title screen - would anyone even bother?

    The part that always gets me about SMB runs is that it's at a point where "better execution" isn't ever the solution. It's always about adding more and more tricks. No matter what there's zero room for error, you have to pick the fastest route you're capable of executing flawlessly.

    • @sonder006
      @sonder006 5 років тому +18

      Well, technically you would be able to match the TAS's record of 18:33.500. However, even if you were allowed to use left and right in your runs, most of the things the TAS does that current runners dont are not humanly possible. So while someone could technically achieve an 18:33.500, it is just not physically possible.

      One can do the clip as Big/Fire Mario as well, but it's a little bit more difficult. Because of the larger hitbox, Big Mario hits the cheep-cheep earlier. But when you press duck when running off, you have the same hitbox as Small Mario. The clip + full fpg can then be done in exactly the same way as with Small Mario. One can save up to 1.4 seconds over the normal fpg with this trick.

    Limit in warp: 4:54
    Limit in warpless: 18:54
    Coincidence????

    • @Bismuth9
      @Bismuth9  5 років тому +2

      Yes. The 18:54 "limit" of warpless would be comparable to 4:55.6x in any%. 4:54 in any% would be comparable to some 18:4x time in warpless, as it is "theoretically humanly possible" but will not actually happen.

      I would say a 4:54 any% would be the equivalent of ~18:52 or smth

    0:30 Hearing "Human limit" feels so weird since I was expecting just "limit" lol.
    (I think they're the exact same, as humans (AKA. Niftski) are/is MORE than capable of 4:54.265)

    My prediction on future records (current is 18:54.864 by Niftski):
    18:53: 18:53.999 by Niftski (August 2024)
    18:52: 18:52.868 by Niftski (October 2025)
    18:51: Non-existant
    18:50: 18:50.987 by Niftski (July 2026)
    18:49: 18:49.606 by Niftski (November 2026)
    (Yes I think Niftski will skip 18:51, then later that year get a Mid-18:49)

      If you didn't know, the current warpless record is literally a single FRAME from 18:58, the only reason GTAce didn't get it in his last run was because his game lagged in 6-4
