That's actually the easiest part of fpg. You basically just do the second input slightly after the first one, almost as fast as you can (almost to avoid jumping one frame later). It gets into muscle memory really quick, so that you almost always get the second frame-perfect input when you get the first one.
@@slm0nw174 he didn’t have the information to accurately predict it. You can’t expect him to predict the future using information that didn’t exist. Time has everything to do with it
Very well-made video. My prediction for future SMB real-time speedrunning would be frame war in 8-4. I don't think trying that 8-1 framerule save in a real run is possible unless we have a robotic-precision input player someday. My 4-2 framerule save solution is also not feasible in a real run, but would be fun to see someone actually go for it. It requires no more frame-perfect inputs than the 8-1 framerule save. That "releasing right for 1 frame" approach is how I calculated to do that wall clip perfectly, but one can do it slightly less perfectly because unlike 8-1, you'll have 3 frames to spare (or more with backward acceleration).
@@Bismuth9 Even if the pipe entry was slower, one can maybe choose to gain more frames to spare with backward acceleration. The hardest part is the corner clip, but the good news is it's right from the beginning, so one can try thousands of times with it and hopefully maybe succeed once in a while.
I found out by reproducing the inputs to get a smooth capture and a timeline to display inputs correctly. It's definitely not happening in a real run, and to think it would be required for 4:54...
Is there any chance you could provide us with a set of inputs which is more user-friendly but has 0 frames to spare? Also could you point out the parts of your current 4-2 solution that must be frame perfect?
This video and its predecessor are so good. I understand ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about speedruns. It's as close to magic to me as makes no difference. But you've managed to explain everything about this particular set of tricks and glitches in a way that's so accessible I actually get it, while at the same time making it clear how difficult, testing, and even sometimes unsolveable without sheer luck or bloody-minded persistence it can be. I actually understand what's going on here, and that means I can see why it's so impressive. Thank you so much for making that. (And much respect to Kosmic and somewes.)
Sub 1 minute could legit be possible if arbitrary code execution is found. That's how games like pokemon red, ocarina of time and super mario world have extremely short speedruns with absolutely gamebreaking shit like warp to credits.
He is essentially an analytics specialist. And great at informational writing. You frame his inability to grab a record as a negative and that’s kind of disingenuous. (You watched this video, for example, yet you can’t pull it off yourself. See what I mean?) He’s also not *trying* to get records. While I can’t speak for him, his interests seem to fall in line to help people who *dont* speedrun understand just how impressive some of these feats are, and how incredibly rewarding and helpful TAS runs can be. His talents and ability to create are entirely
That ending part at 28:24 showing all the records really put everything into perspective. I think the only way 4:54 will happen live on a speedrun is if someone finds another method somewhere since it's really not possible with the current run.
Since the release of this video the record has been improved 4 times - 4:55.746 by tavenweb2002, 4:55.646 by Kosmic, 4:55.430 by Niftski and now Miniland with 4:55.314.
BREAKING: tavenwebb2002 just saved the framerule in World 8-2 in real time and tied the TAS in that level. The SoB has officially dipped into 4:54 territory.

Subpixels are much harder, trust me ive tried for 10 hours now. And havent ducceeded a single time.
Very carefully.
That's actually the easiest part of fpg. You basically just do the second input slightly after the first one, almost as fast as you can (almost to avoid jumping one frame later). It gets into muscle memory really quick, so that you almost always get the second frame-perfect input when you get the first one.
Are you telling me you CAN’T count to 60 in one second? Smh

@@blamingskill1146 4:54 is now history! It happened!!!
I did notice that it had 3 frames to spare. That can be especially useful for the pipe entry.
If I have the time I might actually look into it myself as well. I don't know if Sockbot could be put to good use for the block clip specifically?
