Is this intended and edited in the game patch or somehow forced by PPU rendering?
its because thats where the coin count normally is, and they just kept the hud as similar as possible to the regular one so they kept that animation in. not sure if it was a stylistic choice or just convenience lol also thank you for the kind words!

would it not be possible to save the last frame in 1-1 by using wall pushes between the pipe and the flagpole glitch? or does that make the flagpole glitch impossible (namely, one at the right edge of the staircase)

yes, due to L+R making mario accelerate faster at the start of the room. it basically does the effect of facing backwards without actually moving left (saves 3 frames to be exact)

I think 453 is possible i think there is a improvement in 8-4 in the turn around room i feel like there is a way to get the fish to make the fast acceleration 4 frames faster
i believe it was proven via bruteforce that it is unfortunately impossible to get the cheep there in time. it would make the acceleration faster tho, its just that u have to wait for the cheep which loses way more time than it gains
its because its the method with the earliest jump to the pipe (happylee's original tas did a different method that gets the same frame, but this method is slightly faster in subpixels). how fast he speeds up doesnt matter as much because its very easy for mario to go too fast and bonk the pipe, so you wanna jump as early as possible with running speed to go as fast as possible without bonking
Is there a known way to despawn the plant in 8-2 and still get the earliest possible cannon launch for BBG, preferrably without waiting on the title screen?
unfortunately, there currently isn't a known way to do that, even with waiting on the title screen. this TAS actually already waits for 4 framerules on the title screen, but since it's on the practice rom, I can simply set the framerule and then press start immediately which I did

I watched kosmic’s video about 4:53 almost being possible, and the mushroom block that was in front of the wall kept your TAS at R20, but since there isn’t a block there, could it be possible to save an extra frame?
@@gaster_ but going frame by frame, the timer ticks down a frame before you touch the flag, not the frame you touch it like with kriller setup. sorry, i may just be confused
ohhh that, i dont exactly know how it works but i did see this while making it and i think its because when i hit the flag a frame earlier i still have to go up to the height mario is after the grab. ive tried getting it a frame earlier and at that height but i couldn't, maybe im missing something tho
I manipulate my subspeed (the value that controls acceleration) to where its high enough for me to press left without losing any time. I abuse this by doing a bunch of RLRLRLR's for entertainment, which in 30fps might just look like mario being backwards (the way the subspeed lines up lets all of those inputs happen without losing a single subpixel)
this tas does infact get the lightning 4-2 framerule, although its only 1 frame away from being another framerule faster than that (seems to be an impossible frame to save though)

I know this has likely been tested, but in the warp zone in 4-2, is it possible to clip into the staircase similar to the pipe clip in 1-2?
sadly not, since in the stairs, there's always a block in the way that stops u from jumping late enough to properly clip in like in 1-2G

couldnt you get higher remainder in 8-3 by touching the flagpole 1 frame earlier
you get a 3 on the timer which gives you fireworks

i couldnt give a number for myself, but in general those levels have practically been bruteforced. there seems to be nothing to try atp
How did it get 8-C first room I do a double fast acceleration with l+r but can only get 8-B
i do a right release inbetween the 2 accels to have better subspeed for the 2nd accel

in theory it should, but i dont think we've ever found a framerule where its possible to get everything else optimal whilst having the plant despawned

Why no rta rule tas?
L+R is very much allowed for tases, and there was already a fully optimized ultimate tas that used L+R so it was way more convenient to use
