    This is part two, and I have more things to change. I'm installing a water pump for a 1970 Mustang as well. Follow along for part 3.

    You are thinking about the wire size as my be used in a house. Since the DC fans cycle and depending on the duty cycle, you can use smaller gauge wire size. Also, you might want to consider a circuit in parallel to the fan clutch circuit. So the fans will run when the compressor is running (safety). The the fans will cycle with demand. Great information. You do a really great job detailing the installation.

    The battery (red) wire and the grounds to the fan are where your higher current would be. The other wires can be smaller gauge. Good idea to run each fan on its own relay. I have had single relays go out and lose both fans instead of 1. I mounted mine on a small aluminum plate and added a cover over it.

      Yea I was gonna say the same thing, I would use 2 relays.

    Love your build. Awesome information. Just a bit off constructive criticism, dish soap is a much better choice for lubricating your hoses, petroleum based Vaseline can deteriorate the petroleum based hose. My neighbor, a 30 year radiator guy schooled me many years back. Keep up the amazing work.

    I would also use a relay to turn the fans on when the A/C is on. other wise you may not have efficient heat transfer from the condenser. Can the fans support 2 speed function?. high speed/low speed
    I would route the wires on lower side of motors, and install relays below the battery on lower part of the front apron or even ,maybe on the core support below the battery, or on front side of the core support
    Looks great, and awesome instructions.

      I am cheating by adding the ground switch that I can "turn on" when the ac is running. it will still trigger the existing relays. I am working g on ideas to hide the relays better. Thanks!

    Some great ideas Barry. Hopefully I am good with my current set up but only a hot day in august with the AC on will tell if I need to follow in your footsteps.

    Hi Barry, I installed an alloy works rad and fan kit in my 66 a couple of months ago and one of the probs was the temp switch is 180 on and 165 off. I think I remember you saying you are running a 180 thermostat as I was. The off temp of the switch needs to be at least 10 Hotter than the thermostat opening temp or the thermostat will close before the fan switch turns off. After much experimenting and spending more money on a number of switches and thermostats , I have settled on a 170 thermostat, and a 200 on , 185 off switch. I tried a 160 thermostat with the supplied 165 off switch but the fan could not bring the temp down that low so the fan was always running.
    Also , I noticed you are not running any vacuum advance to the dizzy. All my windsors have run much cooler when the dizzy is connected to Full manifold vacuum on the carb.
    Have been watching your videos for years and love them.
    Cheers, Russell

      Correct. Vacuum advance installed will run cooler and add fuel mileage.

    One thought, isn't there a switch on the compressor so that when AC is on, it could toggle your fans on? No need for toggle. Or even the switch on the car that starts the compressor

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  2 роки тому

      There is an option for a trinary switch. I don't have that. The relays are activated by a ground circuit. If I use the power from the compressor, it creates a power draw. More than one thing trying to run off of one circuit.

  • @jcook69camaro
    @jcook69camaro 2 роки тому +1

    get a trinary switch for your vintage air? look at the wiring for it because it can control the fans for the a/c

      I only have the binary switch. I don't want to open up the system again. But if I have an AC problem, I'll update later.

    The amp rating has no impact on the wire. The fuse is,what protects the wiring
