How many people are in jail for not being able to pay their fine?
Zero. None. The fraud case was brought as a civil case, no jail time possible. They can have assets (bank accounts, property, etc.) seized, but that’s about it.
@@willdejong7763 Although I agree with what you wrote as it relates to civil cases, I think that the original writer, EattheApple666, was referring to people who ARE in jail for not being able to pay their fines in a criminal case. If someone can not pay their fines within a specified length of time, a warrent can be issued, the defendant can be arrested, and placed in jail until the fine is paid. The number of days in jail is determined via a formula set by the Court that allows the original fine to be divided by a pre-set daily rate. Once the fine is paid in that manner, the defendant is released, and the original fine shows as PAID in their record. I wonder if that might happen to trump in his criminal trial that is now set to begin on April 15th.
It seems unlikely to me that Trump would choose to go to jail rather than pay whatever fine he will get from the trial starting April 15. I know some people are saying that he's facing up to 4 years in jail but I just don't see it happening. And I suspect that the fine for this criminal case will be relatively small, maybe $1 million. But I guess we'll see.@@margueritemccann8580
To further the point of the op, there are plenty of stories of people too poor to post bail or too poor to pay fines (as mentioned). The point is, the system is unfair and doesn't care. So there's actually a fair amount of "hope he's screwed" crossing of fingers in the background because of someone rich also finds the system unkind, maybe it'll eventually change. Or at least the State will make some money off a "rich" person. Either way a win-win.

Fines and bonds mean that something is only illegal for the lower class who can't afford it.
Never been more clear there's a two tier justice system. Absolute joke.
So when is the DOJ going to investigate his other crimes? There's quite a list, growing longer every day...
SUMMARY OF TRUMP’S ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES:
1. Profiting from his properties (hotels, conference rooms, Mar-a-Largo, etc) when he was president is illegal under the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution.
2. Bribery/intimidation to change the vote results of the 2020 election.
3. Gifted his ultra-rich donors with $7 trillion dollars (added to the federal deficit), which the American public will have to pay.
4. Selling the White House to the highest bidder.
5. Accepted bribes from foreign governments.
6. Stole classified documents from the White House.
7. Showed the classified documents to any number of visitors to Mar-a-Largo.
8. Refused to return the classified documents to NARA when requested.
9. Created federal laws ‘on the fly’ to prove that his stealing classified documents from the White House was legal.
10. Plans to destroy American democracy and replace it with a fascist regime, with him as President-for-Life.
11. Plans to indict his “perceived foes” from his earlier presidential tenure if he is allowed back into the White House:
a. Trump plans to start a prosecutorial campaign, using federal law enforcement as a weapon against his political foes.
b. Trump is trying to blame the Democrats for forcing him into this action.
c. There is, however, a nagging detail the former president apparently hopes the public will forget: Trump is threatening a nightmare scenario that he already tried to implement.
d. Trump would turn the DOJ on any Congressman he perceived as not being subservient enough to him and his wishes. He would demand that the DOJ indict these people WITHOUT EVIDENCE! He’d then push to have these Congressmen convicted-again, WITHOUT EVIDENCE.
e. Trump would jail President Biden and his family-for nothing other than not agreeing with everything the Mango Mussolini said.
This failure of humanity BELONGS in jail.
$175 MM is still a crapload of money, and the appeals court is likely to reduce the amount of the decision anyway.

This is what happens when GOP refused to approve judge appointments, causing Dems to change the rules, which GOP and Trump later used to appoint awful judges who are loyal to him (instead of the law and the Constitution) with lifetime appointments.
doesn't the concept of _life tenures_ for federal judges strike you as weird? it needs to go. old geysers in their seventies or even eighties shouldn't decide over issues concerning much younger people with vastly different needs. but then again the US constitution is so hopelessly outdated the whole thing should get a general overwork.
@@embreis2257 GOP appointed judges who were relatively young so that even if they resigned or retired at 60 they would have still done decades' worth of damage and obstruction.
