This video has to be one of the best 'best settings' video out there. The sheer amount of data collection and the effort that has been put into it is so clear and I truly appreciate your work. Thank you!
DLSS Quality for me took my fps from 30 to 40 at a mix of high/ultra settings to a smooth 60 fps in all places. I'm not sure why performance wouldn't boost for you, but it certainly does for me (and I've done a ton of testing between having DLSS off and on, recording varying performance in different places/times of day). At any rate, thank you for the optimization guide! This game is amazing, but it really does need some performance patches.
Probably the best graphical settings video I've seen so far, I wish you could do a video like this for Steam Deck, it would definitelly get tons of views due to the popularity of valve's console
Are you sure you properly tested DLSS? Because it makes no sense that you have no difference/lower performance with DLSS quality VS native 1440p. I mean if you don't get difference between 1440p and 890p resolution then something is really wrong. I gain a lot of FPS just switching DLSS quality on compared to using native at 4k let alone lower DLSS options like performance or ultra performance. Uplift in FPS is huge but the image ofc takes a hit as well due to lower renders.
You are a saint ❤ I've been waiting a year to get a pc that actuallly can run this game and when I saw the video config I barely understood what I was looking at. The game runs better than I ever expected thanks to your dedication, I really apreciate it.
Thank you so much for your detailed review of all the options! Definetly one of the, if not the best optimization videos for Hogwarts Legacy. Got my sub for future game optimizations for sure.
You are the first person I've heard not to like ambient occlusion. Not knocking you for it, I just never thought I would hear that opinion. Props to being original. C8 (I'm unfortunately the opposite, I love increasing the contrast in games, and having darker shadows means there's a subtler fall off. I like gradients. XD)
@TechGuides vsync on or off in the nvidia control panelsettings? would you have any special recommendations for a laptop with i7 13700HX (1.5GHz) Processor, 32GB DDR5-4800 RAM and rtx4060 ?
If I have a 3060 12 GB, can I keep texture quality at ultra. Trying to play 1440p with best experience until I get a new GPU next year (waiting for AMD 8000 and Nvidia 5000).
Subscribed, liked (and now commented) for the amazing effort put in, especially the fact that you did it for two different systems - massively appreciated the latter and hope your channel grows! Special thanks
The game was essentially unplayable due to lag spikes no matter what settings I was using. Even the lowest (other than resolution). I installed the Ascendio mod. BAM. Ironically as if by magic suddenly I'm able to play on High settings with a reasonable frame rate. Bearing mind I'm using a Core i7 920 processor from 2008 and a 980 Ti, this isn't bad.
interesting that dlss was giving you issues. from no dlss to dlss quality enabled, it easily gave me an extra 30fps on average running the game on similar high end specs (5800x3D + RTX 4080). perhaps its a problem for some folks.
Yeah I just couldn't get it to improve performance... Tested and re-tested it even twice on both systems! But I've heard that with DLSS2.5 it might get better. I'll maybe cover it in a separate video then!
Hello bro My pc setup 3060TI i5-11400F 16GB ram But my gpu is running 70-90% then I have drop FPS and cpu rise to 90 and gpu down to 30% can u help me with this ?
Quick question: how in the world do you avoid tearing if you don’t vsync or cap fps and you are not using any vrr display?? Also, are people aware that if the game engine is outputting 60 fps and you are running it on a 120 container there is a double-image effect?
when I enable HA GPU scheduling, the game crashes every 5 - 10 minutes all the time, so I strongly recommend you to turn this setting off. I have i9-9900 KS + RTX 4080
Somebody give that company a good team of developers for Optimization. One of the worst Optimized game in history of all games after the Infamous Crysis 3. The most annoying thing is,the game doesn't stutter for me,it's just the VRAM which is maxing out even at lowest setting and the shaders are not loading properly, leading to 4-5 seconds stutter the moment i go to other rooms or maps, otherwise game running at 50+fps. Worst memory management i have ever seen. I have never encountered, "Great video rendering with poor Vram usage" until i saw this game. This game is the example of what happens if you have a team of designers and No dedicated team for Testing & verification and bug fixing
Is there a way to lower the games view distance quality or the render distance in general to be lower than the in game settings allow? Through a configuration file for example?
My PC barely runs the game . My benchmark recommended settings is Low. Yet it runs fine on medium settings at 46-50fps . It's all I can do really since my PC is not ultra powerful
Again you do a great work here, please continue with these guides as i've said on the bf2042 video, im fed up with some settings guide and ppl just saying "oh hey, leave everyone on low and you got performance" lol , i want the best Quality X Performance ratio man I have just 1 question, why leave FPS "unlimited" and not capped to my (your) monitor max refresh rate? thx a lot !
Well I can't test this myself but have read that capping can increase your input latency. Personally I prefer to just let it run as high as possible to get as smooth a performance as possible
HELP! I'm curious if you are having any major issues with stuttering in high populated areas like the scene you had with all the children eating in the dinning hall or Hogsmead. I get a wicked solid frametime line when I limit my FPS to 60 literally everywhere else. I use G-Snyc which is why I limit my FPS to 60 even though I technically get more than that and I also have a 120 hz monitor. I've noticed that no matter my settings, my 1% lows drop to 45 fps in Hogsmead just running around and it's not until I leave Hogsmead that it normalizes. Same thing in Hogwarts. My wife on the other hand gets the same smooth frametimes in certain Hogwarts areas that normally give me trouble and my system out classes hers significantly. At first I thought it was maybe my CPU since the highly populated areas, but reducing that option doesn't help and even on Ultra, my CPU doesn't go above 45% usage. I've got a Intel i7-10700KF, RTX 3080 10GB, and 32 GBs RAM. The only thing I see is the VRAM usage gets to 90%, but then it starts utilizing my RAM and your 2060 has less VRAM. I play on a 4k monitor so DLSS works well to help reduce the in game resolution and help me upscale.
I dont experience a lot of noticable stuttering if Im honest. But I think it might be very well a VRAM issue on your end. Did you ever tried running the game at 1440p instead of 4K?
Id recommend downloading the ascensio mod. Its a god send for stutters, altough it ruins immersion a bit sometime but its much better than stuttering at the start of every duel

I tried everything. What can I do? I feel like my GPU should handle at least 80 FPS on high settings, especially because the utilization is so low. I want to cap the frame rate at 60 and be done with it but I can't
Typically, you should ALWAYS cap your fps, as it will save power, improve latency and will make your experience generally more enjoyable. I recommend capping it at minimum 60fps, but go higher if your system can handle it.
Im sorry but thats not true. Capping your FPS does NOT GENERALLY reduce input lag. In fact most often it increases input lag as Steve from Hardwareunboxed nicely expained: ua-cam.com/video/VtSfjBfp1LA/v-deo.html&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE

DLSS doesn't even give me a performance boost. I get 140fps with a fps cap no problem ( 1440p, rtx 4080), without frame gen too. DLAA is best anti aliasing. Granted my system is really high end but its odd DLSS does like...nothing. What does work is adding tweaks in the engine.ini and setting shader cache to 10gb. All stutter in Hogsmeade nearly gone, stutters when I first arrive and then none.
If playing at 4k would you reccommend using "medium" for Texture quality I have a 3080 with 10gb of VRAM and I'm not sure if it's enough on "high", game seems to use tons of VRAM and system RAM. I understand that the higher the resolution the more VRAM the game will use.
@@oneminuteofanything3757 I was getting them but I recently upgraded my CPU to a 13600k from an overclocked 8600k and then up to 32gb of ram this game uses so much RAM and I heard that fixed some people's issues with that. Now it's fairly smooth

Strange I also tested with "only" 16GB RAM on my second system but didnt get a lot of stuttering. Maybe speed is also important, is your memory running at XMP?
wow very bad recommendations. Some of your Ultra settings that doesn't impact performance, are cpu bound... That means that this happens cause your CPU is just very strong, so for us the viewers it might have huge performance loss. For low end hardware you suggest DLAA, but this is available only for Nvidia gpus if i remember correctly. You just compare the performance presets not the actual image quality of the settings. Many of the settings you suggest can take much RAM to work, if you have enough (like 32gb) then you have no performance loss with your ultra settings, what will happen if someone has 16gb ? It's better to compare graphic's quality, than simple FPS of 2 different GPUs. Cause cpu, ram, Vram can impact performance too if you have a lower end system. It could be better to remake this video with more accurate suggestions than randomly suggestions without a good methodology.
I used a i7-7700k on my low-end system to make sure I'm most definitely CPU bound and was also only using 16GB of RAM on that rig. I also showed visual comparisons of pretty much every setting that has a visual impact. There is absolutely nothing random about the suggestions in this video, much different to most other "guides".
9:03 I dont get it why whould you want that much fps on a non competitive game, this us the kind of game where you aim for visual quality while having stable performance, not where you want the biggest performance at the cost of quality.
I totally agree with you. However if your performance is mediocre to begin with you might want to know which settings you can still safely increase without moving into completely unplayable terrain. And a lot of people had issues running this game. On my system I could easily run most of the settings on Ultra and just enjoy the experience but not everybody has a 4080 ;)

I dont get it why whould you want that much fps on a non competitive game, this us the kind of game where you aim for visual quality while having stable performance, not where you want the biggest performance at the cost of quality.
I totally agree with you. However if your performance is mediocre to begin with you might want to know which settings you can still safely increase without moving into completely unplayable terrain. And a lot of people had issues running this game. On my system I could easily run most of the settings on Ultra and just enjoy the experience but not everybody has a 4080 ;)
thankyou
