  • In this video, I go over the one annoying issue that I have with my 2023 3rd Gen Toyota Tundra. My passenger window RATTLES like crazy. This is my second 3rd Gen Tundra that this has happened on, and I've had enough. I'm going to try my hardest to get to the bottom of this for everyone having the same issue.

Thank you for keeping it real with your Tundra. I know rattles are minor problems in the grand scheme of things, but it is honestly a deal breaker for me. I can't stand rattles and especially to be having them in in such an expensive vehicle is unacceptable. I would try the inchannel visors if you really want to keep the truck. Selling the truck is an option, but you run the risk of having similar issues with another manufacturer. I wish you the best of luck getting this issue resolved and hopefully Toyota is listening and does something to resolve the issue.

Unfortunately these days unless you are buying an ultra luxury vehicle, Bentley, Lamborghini etc the rattles are always going to be there (there will always be some better than others of course). We live in a world of prices going up and quality going down and that’s across the board. My parents have had two fridges in my almost 31 years on this earth. My wife and I are on our second one and second set of washers and dryers in 5 years lol

Ask them to put the acoustic glass in it to see if it quiets down. I know it is an expense they may not want to incur, but if it helps them solve a model-wide problem, they may consider it.

Take it to an Auto Glass guy, some of these guys are really good at what they do, and have seen this stuff before. Don't let them try and replace the glass, I'm sure there is a way to beef up the track of the window to stop it.

First, I can't thank you enough for your reviews. I have been patiently waiting for the bugs to get worked out of the new Tundra, but your videos have solidified my decision to look at another brand. I, too, am a Toyota loyalist, but the rattles are completely unacceptable. What is more frustrating is that you KNOW the Toyota folks are watching these videos and are aware of the issue, yet they remain silent. Thank you for being honest in your reviews. Now my conundrum: 1.) Buy a Tundra with a bulletproof powertrain and deal with mind-blowing rattles and trim issues, or 2.) Buy an F-150 and love the quiet, comfortable ride, but not be able to have quality and long-term reliability on the powertrain (and poorer resale if I need to get rid of a problem truck). I usually keep my vehicles 15 years or more if they are solid (I still drive a 2005 Sequoia with the 4.7 engine), so I REALLY wanted the Tundra. You are the only hope for Toyota to fix this issue. It is amazing that you and Esterdahl cannot get the new chief engineer Jay Sackett to answer the questions about the rattles (and somewhat sad that Esterdahl did not press him on the issue - it was a softball interview).

It's just worth a shot in the dark, but try putting some black foam weatherstripping on the top of the window and roll it all the way up and see what happens or stuff some between the top of the door card and the window. Sometimes, the simplest things are the fixes. Good luck!

After dealing with the front doors rattling on my 2022 Tundra 1794 edition for a year and a half, and over 35,000 miles, I’m trading mine in on a 5th gen 4Runner. The doors were adjusted and “reshaped” a couple of times on my Tundra, but they keep rattling shortly after the “repairs”. My thigh extender on the driver seat has been repaired at least 3 times, and keeps failing. I love the power train (non-hybrid) in my truck, and am confident in it, but these freaking door and seat issues are so annoying! I feel your pain, Jon! I hate to get rid of my Tundra, but this is ridiculous! I really hope they fix these issues on future models. Maybe the aluminum front doors were not such a good idea? I would trade it in on a new Tundra, but the prices have increased a bit since I bought mine, and the fact that you could hear the window rattle slightly in a new Tundra is not very encouraging at this price point. I’m a Toyota fanboy too, but it’s time to move on from this truck.

    • @TRDJon
      @TRDJon  6 місяців тому +3

I am really starting to lean that way, but I want it fixed at the same time. I'd feel super bad selling another truck with rattles. The previous buyer didn't mind and I was 100% transparent with him. But that being said, 2-3 people wanted my last truck but didn't end up buying because of the windows. So now for me, it hinders my future sale too which is complete BS.

I’ve owned 4 second generation Tundras and loved it due to having no problems. I mean zero. And unfortunately this brand new 2022 I bought in March 2022 has made me so furious. And I only have 18k on it.

@@bedlamfirm3285 I haven’t had an issue with the driver lower seat panel cracking. Mainly the front driver seat extension for more thigh support. It has been repaired at least 3 times. I never had that problem with the thigh support extension on my previous generation Tundras. Not sure why it has been a problem on the 3rd generation Tundra.

Jon, If you want to sell it, use the in-channel rain screen or whatever fix. After the fix is done be honest with the buyer but if the rattle is not there I am sure most prospective buyers will still be purchasing. At that point is up to them to decide to take the risk but if the problem doesn’t exist at the time, I think most will be willing to buy. Just my 2 cents.

I would keep pushing with the platform. But just an idea you know the rubber door edge guard stuff. The soft rubber C channel stuff I would run that across the top edge of your glass and roll the window up. And go for a drive see if that holds the window centered in the top of the door seal. It would apply downward pressure and side to side perhaps at the same time. Not a permanent fix but a test.

Lots of potential fixes with no solution. Beyond frustrating. I will say otherwise the thing was super solid. Wound up selling it mainly because after 2 years I got 3k more than I paid for it from a dealer. But, it was a major turn off. Now I am hesitant with all the new Toyotas coming out. I still have my 13' Tundra for truck duties. It has 93K and has been great! Will be in the market for a Tacoma, LC, or new 6th gen. for a daily. But, all the issues with new vehicles have me thinking back to another 5th gen. I'll be really interested in your upcoming reviews of the new Tacoma and LC. I got time to decide while they still make 5th gens. Sorry you continue to deal with this.

It sounded like a rock was stuck in the door panel, rattling/scratching the window. I informed dealer, told them I felt the window sounded like it could shatter. They took the door panel and tried to repiar the issue. This helped a bit but the noise is still present but not as loud. This seems like an assembly line issue related to the acusatic glass. I can't tell you what you should do, but you did often make use of it with your real-estate stuff and rattles or no, it'll still remain useful for that unless the powertrain or suspension go belly up. Hey just a theory here, could it be those tow mirrors? They are bigger than the standard mirrors and perhaps the way the air moves across those bigger mirrors and hits the glass is an issue. Sorry to hear about your annoying rattle concern. I'm a retired Toyota/Lexus master diagnostic tech of 35 years and recently my wife's new Toyota Venza company car also has an annoying dash rattle somewhere near the instrument cluster that only happens on particular slightly rough pavement. Unfortunately, there are no roads near me or the dealership to duplicate the noise to locate it. I have been to the dealership 3 times with no luck and have contacted the 1-800 customer care center to document the noise on the record. Seems like something like a different rubber glass run channel strip with a tighter tolerance would possibly address your concern and wouldn't be too difficult for Toyota to produce so dealers can correct all of these Tundra owners concerns and improve CSI!

My father has a 23 Tundra with 10k miles, and while I like it there's plenty of little issues with it. The android auto is very buggy and theres been a few little things like an error with the active front spoiler. My 2023 Tacoma that has 25k miles, and not easy miles at that, is absolutely flawless. There seems tk be an issue with newly designed vehicles across the board. I worked at a Chevy dealer for a while and now work at a CDJR store and I can safely say the Tundra is still a more reliable truck than any other full sized on the market, but theyre not like the Tacoma, 4Runner, or 2nd Gen Tundra were.

Wow, didn't know you were having this problem too. We bought ours earlier this month on Veterans Day. Only 1,100 miles. Words cannot describe how pissed I am. It started with the passenger side, and unfortunately for me, I'm starting to hear it on the driver side too. It seems like my dealership didn't even care, they had it for 6 hours then called me to come pick it up after failing to find a fix. My solution in the mean time is shoving some cardboard strips along the window jam. It's crazy to say it, but my 20 year old 4Runner is built better than this thing, or at least that's what it seems. I purposefully spent my money with Toyota instead of another company to avoid this stuff. I love Toyota, but they've got to do better.

Hey Jon, I know I have commented on this on a prior video but I wholeheartedly believe that it is not the window itself. The noise you are hearing is the door seal shifting around and creating that noise while the door is closed, mainly the seal that is on the door that makes contact and seals against the metal on the truck. It is the same exact noise that I had on both front doors of my truck. Clean the seal all around with a degreaser and clean the metal where the seal makes contact and then add some lubricant to prevent it from becoming tacky.

I think the door/window vibration is normal but it transfers the vibration into the pillar/white plastic piece. That’s why when you push on the glass the noise goes away, you are limiting the vibration to problem area. Wish I had some pictures but a little rubber window sealant around that white plastic cone fix the noise for me. Not 100% if your noise is the same but it’s worth a shot
