    I like Josh's line: "...unless we get into 4-channel planes in the future -- we don't know if that will happen". I can't believe this vid is only 4 years old. All the developments and refinements to get Flite Test builds to where they are now must have been a blinding explosion of awesomeness.

    This may be the reason I will finally build a nutball! The nutball is just too simple for me to be worth using a motor and foam on but if it is swapable its perfect! 3(+) planes in one!!

    From what I understand, the paper on the foam board adds strength. You can probably use Depron, but you might need to reenforce the wings with a small fiberglass rod.

    The angle of attack is going to create the lift. The particular shape of an airfoil is not always necessary to achieve lift.

    It would take a lot more planning but I think it would be a great challenge to have the servos in the fuselage as well.
    Just need different servo arms. Would make it harder but would make it more of a challenge to build for experience people

    Josh, you said 0.7mm wire for the landing gear, but that just seems too small and flexible. Is that really what you are using or did you accidentally mis-speak? Also, what gauge music wire did you use for the pushrods?

  • @qawsedrftg7625
    @qawsedrftg7625 11 років тому

    no need for that, very very very strong by it self (depron) although, the dollar tree foamboard is 4mm thick, and the most common depron thickness is 6mm, so you will need to make some adjustments to the plans :) but a CF or FG rod will only make it much stronger for very little weight :)

  • @chrisleech1565

    15 for the motor, 10 for ESC, 6 for (2 x) 9 grm servos, 7 for the battery, 6 for 4ch Rx, 2 for foam board, But assumption is you have Tx and charger and some small stuff in your kit.

    Love your videos guys but the plans linked to on this video are not the same as what you are doing in the video. The plans do not use the one piece technique on the main part of the plane and it is very confusing to a new builder to try and figure out the differences. O.K., I think I figured this out now. The plans referenced are apparently for your kit, not this scratch build. I couldn't figure out why the lines said to cut the plane in half only to attach the two sides back together. I suppose you shipped it cut to reduce size / shipping cost. I will just use those plans and not cut the middle line. However, that being said, there is still no plan available for the same build technique used here.

    I have almost finished my flyer and am thinking ahead to doing a delta wing build,but I don't have a transmitter with mixing etc...what are your thoughs about the flyer with a more delta type wing and regular airlerons in the wing and and elevator in the tail with a fixed rudder ? can I still use a flat(one thickness) wing or do I need some type of built-up airfoil ? I also picture putting the elevator tail section on top so it will be on the same level with the wing. Thanks, joep

    Hello, I am currently in the planning phase for a delta wing, I have some idea about RC as I have a Drift Car, but this is my first plane, and I've been told that before you go out and buy planes, you should try and make one so you understand the parts of the plane.
    For my delta. What type of ESC, battery, motors and servos would you recommend. Both in price and reliability.
    Thankyou

  • @notsogreat123
    @notsogreat123 12 років тому +1

    I have found that planes with the prop in the front do not make very good beginner planes. You usually end up breaking props bending motor shafts. Sorry to say and I'm sure people love the front prop for scale look but that's just the facts. I would recommend planes with rearward pointing props like the bixler or axn foam planes for beginners. IMHO of course.

    you guys are at good standing with hobbyking, any chance that you could pass this whole control+motor+batt+all guts in swapable body off to them so they could make it more pro, and consciese? so you basically buy only cheap 4ch sender + cheap mass produced 4ch body filled with electronics ready to fly, all configured so you only attach your airframe with servos and go have fun without messing about too much?

    would this airframe still work well if the motor was on the back as a pusher? I have electronics from a dynam I Can Fly, which has a motor with a odd mount. it would be easier to use a 1/4x1/4 stick on the back as the motor mount due to the type of motor. I realize that the CG would change and id have to remove some of the control surface to allow for the prop, but would that shape still fly well as a pusher?
