- Hi UA-cam
My last Back to Basics course was filmed for UA-cam too and we’re continuing with Preparing the nail so the nails stay strong on your client.
You can join me on my next course in Stockton On Tees, 26th June 2022 : bit.ly/38jb4W8
I’m going to start with my cuticle bit, and then my proximal fold bit to push back and exfoliate the cuticle. I shortened the length off camera and then I’ll use my sanding bands over the whole nail.
For manual prep, I’m going to use cuticle remover and a soft tool to remove the non-living tissue and then use a soft file to buff the nail.
I hope you enjoyed the video, don’t forget to like, subscribe and all that shebang.

I love watching prep. It's so satisfying to watch lol
Nice to see you teach nails to a class. This was a nice video.
love these series of videos
Love to watch you work!
Your model has such beautiful nails! Great video on prep.
Great information thank you.
I do it the way they did it in school back in the day where you soak then you do all the work to get the cuticle off. But then I wait an hour then I finish the prep then put product on. Is there something else you can use besides cuticle remover? If you don't have any and where you don't have to soak. I didn't get to finish the cosmetology school life happened I do them at home.😭 I don't have a e-flie but when I get one that part will come in handy. Thank you for sharing. 💖 💖💖🤗
Thanks, I enjoyed this video. We sometimes can use a refresher. TFS
even more so in the nail industry and makeup industry since trends and techniques change so frequently
Love this video. Love that shirt.
Thanks so much kirsty I never thought to turn my drill upside down so I wouldn’t have to switch directions
Thank you!!!! I would love to study with you 🤩💘
cool video
Yeahhhh 👍
When doing ur own nails u would have the drill in forward for ur left hand and reverse on ur right ...is that correct
You just want to make sure the part that touches your skin moves towards your skin is all. I don't think it'll change depending on your left or right hand **unless it influences the way you hold your drill**. If your nail and your drill are both held the same way, it shouldn't change.
Assuming you're always holding the drill with the bit towards you (like Kirsty did in the video), you'll need to reverse for the left side of the cuticle and forward for the right side; if you're always holding the drill with the bits away from you, then you do the opposite, forward for the left and reverse for the right.
It's actually not easy to explain with words, but you can try to imagine a cross section of the nail and the drill bit, then see if your drill needs to move clockwise or anticlockwise for the bottom of the circle to be moving towards the skin, like this:
╭─╮
╰─╯
∩══∩
If the drill (the circle-ish shape) wants to push back the skin (the ∩ symbol) on the left side, it needs to spin clockwise. That means forward rotation if you hold the drill normally, or in reverse otherwise.
If the drill wants to push the skin on the right side back, it needs to spin anticlockwise. That means reverse rotation if you hold the drill normally or forward otherwise.
Left or right hand should have no bearing on which rotation you use unless that changes which direction your finger or your drill is pointing towards.
Just to further clarify, forward rotation means the motor spins clockwise when you observe the drill with the bit away from you (and reverse if anticlockwise). Just in case if it helps you determine which way you should set your drill to.
I was just wondering if you would use a nail prep or just leave it with the dehydrator you used?
What make was the acid based cuticle remover called? Xx
Can I ask kirsty, where did u get ur top. I think it awesome & would love it 😀 😍
It's either Pretty Little Thing, or Stella McCartney
Where were you in this video? Is it The Quality Hotel? Xx
bravo super magnifique Kirsty bisous de la France bisous Martine 👍👍👋👋💅💅😘♥️👄🥀🌷🌹♥️👄🌹🇨🇵💐🌹🌹🌹
What do you do when the proximal fold is stretched down stuck growing on the nail plate?
Just wondering why people don't use liquid cuticle remover any more? I see so many people using e-files, but in the wrong hands they can be terrible for the eponychium and surrounding tissue.
😂😂😂
Why does your nails turn yellow
The model has beautiful nails 💅 what size is that scissors you’re using Kirsty? Nooooooo don’t take the beautiful nails off 😢
I would imagine she's getting ready to teach extensions to this class next, so she'd have to take off the nail length first.
Those videos are always way too short😭i could hear kirsty talking about nail stuff ALL DAY ( alltough my main language isnt even english🤣💅)
