    • @calichef1962

      Yes! I would give anything to have a nail friend near by! My left hand always looks great; no lifting, no weird or asymmetrical nails, and no sloppy polish to have to clean up before curing. It would be so much fun for us each to trade doing each other's dominant hand! We would do our own non-dominant hand, and then the other would do our dominant hand to match. We would just bring all the supplies we used for the non-dominant hand and let the matching contest begin!

    I had 3 of my nails crushed in a car window. I picked out the broken pieces, cleaned the nail and applied new acrylic over it and it worked better then a bandage. In my opinion you are doing exactly what’s needed to protect the nail that is left. Great video.

    I removed my acrylic over lays on 29th December 2018. My real nails were over an inch out from the nail bed, following 11 years of using acrylic tips and over lays. I developed severe onychylosis on my left index finger and such a bad fungal infection on my right thumb, i had to cut the nail off to the cuticle, and soak my 'stump' in tea tree oil. It's now almost August and all of the damage is nearly grown out. I'm desperate to have long nails, but I'm going to try and grow them without acrylic or gel. Wish me luck!! Xx

    • @calichef1962
      @calichef1962 5 років тому +2

      I'm so sorry that happened to you! Good luck with natural nails, no overlays. But know this, a very light buff is all you need for gel polish, and gel polish will add some support and protection to your natural nail.

    I’m a self taught (only my daughter’s, her 2 friend’s and my own nails) nail tech. Let’s see....I was about 15 when I started teaching myself and I’m a few months shy of 40. Doing my dominate nails with my non-dominate hand was the most unnatural feeling EVER! I forced myself to continue using my non-dom hand like I used the dom hand. Seeing a PRO such as Kirstie struggle with the same thing makes me not feel so bad! Truth be told, I think (maybe because I spend more time?) I like the way the nails that I do with my non-dom hand look more! Maybe I’ll start experiment with doing a full set with my left hand! I love all of your work!!

    I had no idea you could put the acrylic right on the skin. I get these injuries every so often because I have really short nail beds and I wear really long extensions. But I always put a tip then acrylic. So next time I’m gonna try this way.

    • @solcinalli
      @solcinalli 5 років тому +9

      I wouldn't do it. Every time acrylic touches my skin it itches and hurts later (while it's setting, because it kinda shrinks) but, maybe that works for some people! Although I recommend you do a test before doing the actual nail

    • @mwallden1806

      You can see her nail bed has hardened as she has let it dry out and left it for a few days. Every once and a while on the skin is fine. Over the years people develope contact dermatitis from the monomer slapped around from untrained or lazy techs. Not from this

    Hello Naio Nails Naiple (nail + people).. blessings to all.
    Adam... was so nice to see you featured for a change. You are so very cute!!! ... far different from what I'd assigned to you in my minds eye. Glad you are back safe. It was fun watching your antics and visits.
    Kirsty... this is so timely as I had a nail weaken and pop off taking a big part of the natural nail with it. So thanks doll, you are a real nail -saver. Hugs to all. Oh, Kirsty when is your mom coming back? Sept 1st will be 25 years since my mom was murdered... if your mom could get her nails done around then... it's a great comfort watching her as they act much alike. Hugs to all from Richmond Va, USA.

    I wacked my ring finger a few times & had the same issue. I went about the same shorter length you have there... But instead trimmed away the end and I gel attached a full cover tip but I leave a space at the cuticle area (like 2 weeks fill ins worth) and file it even to my natural nail and then acrylic overlay over that. Its grown out nicely now.

    I had a nail split vertically, right down to the nail bed. Unusual for me, since my nails are normally really strong (I'm getting a blood test for anaemia) and I've NEVER had a vertical split before! Trimmed it as far as I could but it was still going to catch on something. Since I have only ever done one set of gel extensions (just for fun), it was not easy but I managed to do a hard gel extension on it, with my non - dominant hand. It took a couple of attempts but I got there in the end! Like you, I opted for a clear version. so that I could keep an eye on it. A week later and I trimmed it a bit, the natural nail is almost grown out. It has saved my natural nail, since it would have been torn otherwise!

    Almost a year ago 2 of my fingers got slammed in a truck bed tool box (it was an accident but I did not let my fiance live it down) and one nail was fine, it hurt, but was fine for the most part, my other finger seemed fine, but then a couple days later I found I had maybe a quarter of my nail bed attached. I did exactly what you are doing (with gel) and it helped it so much. I also know if I did not have the gel on it when it happened, I probably would not have a nail at all right now. Love your Kirsty!

    Thanks for this video 💗 I'm also prone to onycholysis (likely as a symptom of a chronic health condition) and for myself it really does speed up proper regrowth to apply an extension. Without it the fingertip itself just mashes against the damaged area, but an extension prevents that and keeps the skin flat instead of puffing up around it. Sometimes I'm sensitive to monomer so if I don't even have a little layer of nail bed growing I'll use hard gel. Doctors probably would advise against it but the alternative is often vulnerable nail beds and as long as I don't extend it enough to exacerbate lifting it speeds things up and helps me look human 👽👸🏻

    Adam, the nail grows from cuticle region. It's a very queratinous tissue. The nail bed grows like skin, it's an epithelial tissue, that has 3 layers: endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm. When she ripped her nail off, she exposed her endodermis (and maybe some conjunctival tissue, underneath epithelial tissue).

    Think if this is the second time you should try a nail tip with a deep ridge so as it sticks to the undamaged part of the nail, still allows the air to reach the damaged part of the nail and allowes the nail to grow not telling a professional what to do but I had the same prob

    Naio Nails has a lot of videos but the ones with Kirsty are 740 of them, it appears. I think at 10 minutes that's only about 123 hours. I've watched all of the Kirsty videos.

    Poor nail 😩😥😢 hope it's better soon! I did the same to my thumb recently. Can I do the same thing but using polygel instead? Love you and Adams banter back and forth and love the channel. You are a beautiful & gifted artist for sure. Love from California!

    • @aymaraher5574
      @aymaraher5574 5 років тому

      Idk if you should use polygel bc gel gets pretty warm under the lamp, and you can feel it really hot if it touches any skin around the finger, I can't imagine feeling that on the nail bed🤔 anyway if you try it let me know how it goes!

    I caught my hand in a drawer pull a few weeks ago and cracked my nail across the top of the nail by the cuticle, I was so glad it only cracked my acrylic and my real nail was safe and sound breaking a nail just the thought makes me cringe and want to vomit. 🤢
