I came to Alaska in July, Anchorage and Fairbanks to see if i could retire in one of these larger cities. And it seems probable. But that homelessness thing is something that gives me pause. And I do feel for them. Although I live in a city with homeless citizens, i don't cross path with them on a daily basis. In Anchorage, they were everywhere I went. Unfortunate.

Our garage was broken into and several THOUSANDS in stollen tools and teuck damage and all on 4k HD video and Anchorage PD refused to even come out to view the video or take a report. Not a fan of Anxhorage PD.

what do you expect? home security footage is rarely looked at as useable evidence….that why cameras are a false sense of security.

Bet if there was a big ass dog guarding it that wouldn't have happened. Also I don't know anyone who has the ol' "we don't call 911" that has been robbed.

@plotholedetective4166 it's a secure garage at bottom floor of condo. They backed in with a green Ford Aerostar van and yardsaled it.

We have lived here in Alaska for less than a week and have visited Anchorage 3 times for supply runs. It has quickly become a place that we do not want to see. Our movers, who are from here or have lived here for many years, did not have positive things to say about Anchorage. We are canceling our Costco membership because we don't want to go down there. Three Bears for the win, lol.

Been living here for 7 yrs and had stuff stolen multiple times and just had our condo broken into. We live in a locked building and on the 3rd floor nothing was taken but the door was kicked in. Crime is a problem but living in alaska has its benefits too!

I may have a job offer in the King Salmon area. ~80K/year. Single person. Could I live comfortably?

@@davidandler4039 Yup, you should be fine. There’s not a lot going on out there though so keep that in mind.

The average med income in KS is like $115k. And, the largest employer shut down in April. Peter Pan Seafood Company.
Good luck with that. It’s a dying place.

ANC has declined substantially in every way. Drugs, violence, human trafficking, city services. blah, blah, blah.
Snow removal in ANC sucks because the muni can’t find skilled people to fix or operate the equipment and when they do, the good people leave. Working for the muni sucks.
