I can't believe this is the first video you released after I found you. I lived in Anchorage for a year and a half. As a lifelong Alaskan, it's definitely an interesting blend of rural rugged, Alaska and big city. One thing you missed is that the ANC airport is one of the busiest cargo airports in the world currently ranked 4th.
We went there and saw so many drunk homeless druggie poor people. Like zombies that walk between cars in busy roads with their greasy, dirty butt cheeks hanging out. We are pretty sure we saw a guy/trans pooping outside of a 2 story shelter made out of pallets and Tyvek while walking down a trail. It was like a Disney ride. Saw a structure type shelter made out of broken bicycles and parts. My son said the strippers there seemed chubby with stretch marks, C section scars, and or asymmetrical breast growth.
Anchorage is a well placed city. During the cold war the Anchorage airport was a refueling stop for planes travelling between east Asia and Europe. They'd fly over the arctic circle to stay clear of restricted soviet airspace. We'd also get some good concerts as bands would stop over here and do a show on the way to their Asian tours. FedEx has a huge hub at the airport where their flights between Asia and North America transfer their cargo.
Great to feature a city from Alaska. One of my friends moved from Houston to Anchorage and he loves the city and especially the wilderness at your doorstep. Great job!
Please do an overview on Whitehorse, BC in The Yukon. I love how this beautiful remote capital city boasts such impressive infrastructure while maintaining a cozy, small town feel. The walking and biking path which runs along the Yukon River through downtown, is incredibly scenic and quite extensive. Wish very badly to move here!
Nice work. A few things to add. The 2nd largest earthquake to hit the world in recorded history was nearby on Good Friday 1964. 9.2. Devastated parts of downtown and West Anchorage. Obliterated Valdez on Prince William Sound. The 2nd highest tides in the world are off of Anchorage leading to the treacherous mudflats which line the waterfront areas. Just across from these mudflats lies Mt Susitna or the Sleeping Lady, one of the most photographed features from downtown at the Captain Cook statue. Did you mention the extensive trail system throughout Midtown and beyond in the City designed and built in the 80s with the oil boom? Ahead of its time. One of my favorite ways to get around on bike when going to college there in the late 80's.
My husband & I spent last week in Anchorage (from Ohio), and we only scratched the surface of all this fantastic place has to offer to visitors (You forgot to mention the Botanical Gardens)😉 We’re definitely planning a 2nd trip to Anchorage 🩵
A couple things - the bowl isnt used to refer to the metro. Its the area of the city proper that's wrapped by the Chugach in a sort of bowl. Second, you can see Denali from just about any point of marginal elevation or unobstructed viewpoint in the town IF 'Denali is out.' Meaning if the weather cooperates and clouds avail themselves to make the mountains visable. Anyone want to factcheck me on any of this, come and visit! Ill buy you a beer at mooses tooth or turnagain brewing.
@@Landonmoto39my guess is 49th State Brewery. They have great food and an upper level outdoor dining deck overlooking the Cook Inlet and north to Denali.
I live in Anchorage, this is a lot of good info. But I’d say Mt. Susitna aka Sleeping Lady is a much better view from Anchorage. Denali is technically visible, but only when conditions are good and from certain parts of town. Sleeping lady is just across the inlet and is very beautiful
Nicely done, but the Anchorage Metro area is not called the Anchorage bowl. The bowl is all part of Anchorage proper. The metro area includes neighboring towns of Palmer and Wasilla in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley to the north.
hey, good video but you states that the fed gave land for people to move to anchorage in the dust bowl, that's wrong, the land is in a town called palmer, this "the palmer colony" about 40 miles north, well outside anchorage.
I live here. I fucking hate it. Don't gloss over the facts of the homelessness issue, drug and alcohol abuse, violence and crime rate is extremely high. Nobody in their right mind would move here after visting. The 10% of it that is nice is reserved for mutli-millionairs. Everything outside of Anchorage is great though, if you don't include the wildlife that is trying to kill you.

That’s crazy! Well I’m glad you found my channel in time 😊
And thanks for pointing that out about the airport!
@@CityGeekduring Covid it was # 1 in the world.
I love my city!
I am from the Netherlands and i'm trying to find a seasonal job in Alaska next year. Do you think its possible?

Anchorage is definitely like no where else in the country. Great video!
Thank you!!
nice job good bit of information on the city
Thank you!!
I live in Anchorage. Great video!
There is a second skyline in midtown with just about as many tall buildings like downtown.
Thank you!!
I'm living here right now lol
I've lived here my whole life, nice to see my hometown get some recognition
Yup 9,000 views look at us go! 🙄
@@bigpesoproductions1413 better than what we usually get lmfao
Nearly no one talks about us
You are lucky. I wish to visit (from VA).

good pipeline prostitutes in the 70s. Hard workers.
Video dropped 10 days before my visit and having visited the places after watching the video gave me a better understanding of the city!
It is said, in some circles, mainly by those who live in Alaska but not Anchorage, that "Anchorage is only 50 miles from Alaska."😁
Great to feature a city from Alaska. One of my friends moved from Houston to Anchorage and he loves the city and especially the wilderness at your doorstep. Great job!
Thank you!! I always appreciate your comments!
I've been looking forward to you doing this video for so long. I'm from Anchorage
Cool! I ask this with all due respect as I’ve never been to Anchorage. I’ve heard downtown has a bad homeless problem. Is that true or not?
@@seth4321 that is true it has been quite noticable when I'm walking downtown but the rest of the "city" is fine
@@24HourAnt Good to know. I’m more of a suburb guy myself, so if I ever visited it sounds like I’d be away from most of that anyway. Thanks. 🙂
@@seth4321 no problem, I also don't really like Downton Anchorage because the nature around is just far better
@@24HourAnt What’s that saying that the locals have? “The best thing about Anchorage is that it’s 30 minutes from Alaska.” Is that it? 🙂

you have gardens of heroine needles by your hotels and people that poop in public infront of walmart.
the fresh smell of urine in front of the stores downtown. unique.
I just found you and subbed already. This was a great introduction to Anchorage; thank you!
Thank you!!
I spent a summer working at a lodge in Pedro Bay, i'm from rural Tennessee. Looks like a fantasy winter kingdom, and the summers are amazing
I really enjoy you covering history and architecture

Come to Anchorage in the winter after the tourist leave we welcome the homeless back into the city to set up camp sites all over the
yes I've been waiting for a video of anchorage and i thought you were gonna make one soon I'm so glad i was right
I couldn't live in a big city but could maybe make an exception for Anchorage because Alaska has the best hunting and camping and wilderness in the US

Does anyone really call it the bowl though?, I feel like I’ve always just called it anchorage and would refer to the full thing as the municipality
I live here (Anchorage) I travel a lot and I still think it’s the greatest place in the world
Thank you for making a video on anchorage. Would you be able to make a video on Omaha or Wichita
Yes I 2nd Wichita!!
Absolutely!
None of the stock footage is current.
At 1:32 you can see the sign for Fantasies on 5th, a gentlemen's club thats been shut down for years.

Thanks! No I haven't been but my brother-in-law lived there so I reached out to him for some information when making this video.

Been going down hill like every other large city and you can guess why. Alaska is great but Anchorage can bounce.

Where?

Watching this from my hotel in Anchorage
Well I’ll be damned, someone outside of Alaska knows more about Alaska than I do and I live just 40 minutes north of Anchorage
I wouldn't mind living there. If only the cost of living was cheaper in the North.
