      I always wanted a 240 GL wagon in metallic chocolate brown with tan velour upholstery and the late 80's turbine style wheels in chrome. Neither the color nor the wheels chromed were offered, but that's my ideal 240.

    I got a 1988 volvo 240 GL station wagon it has 366447 miles on it with no leaks and all stock. I will make it to a half of a million miles. My car has no dents rust . I love my car

      I have an '88 240 wagon as well. I've been a 240 Volvo mechanic for 22 years, and know that an '88 is the best year for a 240 Volvo. Volvo cured the crumbling engine wiring harness for the '88 model, and the '89 and later cars had ECUs that are prone to fail. My car will out-live me.

Yes, yes I still drive a 244 DL 1989 Volvo, automatic with over drive transmission, 260k miles, am second owner 5/2001, 141k miles, replaced trans.2006 176k miles in Berkeley, all 4 seats are great, including fabric, dashboard has 1 crack, odometer been replaced, carpeting on floor is still possible, windows, windshields are original, doing well in San Andreas, CA despite the Summer heat, air conditioning Swedish hose & expansive valve is scheduled for June, 2023, after front struts, rack & pinion axle (being replaced 4 times since 5/2012, horrible pot holes along CA highway 49), about to replace third power steering pump, oil pan gasket, right rear axle seal ... this is the fourth 240 series VOLVO I have owned and prefer the 240 Volvos than the 2995 850 GLT...the "Silver Fox" was repainted in September, 2013...looks terrific.
    Happy New Year 2023 to all

    I have a 94,000 mile 1989 740GL, second owner (since my purchase in 1993), which never was parked for any length of time... just started only driving 2,000 miles a year. Always garaged.
    Mostly same engine and transmission as the 240.
    My concern is how long I can continue to find good service if I keep it 10 or 15 years.
    I'm 72 now so it could be my last car. Driving skills will deteriorate over 10 years
    AirCond system no longer works and needs retrofitting to new coolant. Anyone know the cost for that?
    Top mechanics may all retire, or parts may become unavailable.
    Yet one can hardly sell or trade in a car that will easily go 100,000 to 200,000 more miles on same engine and transmission.
    Still, the vehicle doen't exactly impress the gals....

      Look for independent Volvo mechanics near your location that are experienced with working with Redblock engines. R134a converstions will generally cost around $200-500 dollars. Some parts are still being produced new by aftermarket companies, but there are still enough RWD Volvos on the road today to provide spare parts for the foreseeable future.

Years ago we switched tire sizes, as the original 185R14 went out of production before the 240 run ended. As an aside, the gear to repair the odometer is about $10. Volvo began galvanizing most of their metal body panels from the factory with a zinc coating in the mid-1980s. It doesn't prevent rust entirely, but it delays the spread of rust significantly compared to cars without the same treatment.

    Mine is a 92 wagon with over 500,000.
    Looks almost new. Original engine and transmission. Never left me stranded. Its now retired and I've rebuilt the suspension. Maybe one day an engine swap. I did have to replace the headgasket about 10 years ago.

    My parents owned a 1990 245.
    Very slow but so comfortable except in the summer.
    The A/C was pathetic as it barely cooled your face in the front seats and the "COOL" air never made it to the backseat.

    My 92 240 currently has 43K verifiable miles. Maybe one of the lowest examples anywhere? The odometer did break shortly after I bought in in 2014, but I fixed it within the week and didn't drive it. The repair is quite easy.

    If the speedo broke, how can you claim those miles?

    • @HighMileageReviews
      @HighMileageReviews  5 років тому +1

      The speedometer works, however the odometer is broken. Mileage was estimated through the numerous service records from previous owners alongside some basic calculations using routine driving habits and logging mileage on longer trips.

    Had 4 bricks so far and while being nowhere as reliable as everyone tells you they are, they do go sideways and that's all that counts.
    Pretty damn comfortable to drive too, once you've broken the stupid lumbar supports.
    Damn, I gotta get another 240. Turbobricking is like a drug.

    • @casparpolitman
      @casparpolitman 5 років тому +1

      they have many faults, but we all know them since 30 years, and are always prepared, to fuel pump relais, motor mount, blower motor, and flametrap, every good volvo owner know these faults

      @@casparpolitman Yeah, exactly. They have their issues.
      Swedish kids always like to say that they're more reliable than all the other cars, but that's probably because they haven't owned any other cars.
