The last true E class ever built, the last true benz ever built is the W140. It was a billion dollar project since there was no price constraint. And it was made till 99 unlike the W124 ending at 97. So that makes the W140 the last true benz made to last forever. W123,W124 and W140 will forever be remembered as the best benzes ever made.

My father used to have 260E W124 from 1993-1999. It was imported used from UK to Malaysia. Somehow I bumped with quite bad moments including stalled at roadside lol.😂
However I do love it’s handling, the inline-6 roar sound plus I managed to hit above 200km/h speed behind it’s wheel.

It will be really nice to do a W126 S-Class report as that car is still going strong worldwide and remains the greatest S-Class of all time by production numbers and is (not was) the embodiment of the S-Class philosophy 🌟

The 80s and 90s were the eras when metallurgy and durability were highly crucial in car building. It was how car sales and trends used to be in most countries back then. That's how German and Japanese car brands made profit and built reputation back then.
At the same time, other companies during the same era tend to slack off on metallurgy and durability, so that they could make cars that would only last between 5-10 years before the owners had to buy new cars from them, raising the sales charts at the same time.

Yep! 5 years into owning an ex-Japan 280E with 100k km on the odometer. Black/black, factory AC, cruise, electric seats etc. Gets its' "H" plate in just over a month, my tester at Dekra calls it a "new car" :). Best car I've ever owned - I drive new, premium rentals regularly for work & can never wait to get back to my garage & lift the door. W124 = sublime, timeless, an incredible piece of engineering!

I have such fond memories of my S124 250D (S means wagon). It was very reliable, comfortable, economical and excellent to drive in all conditions. It could go for hours at top speed while still being relaxing driving experience, maintaining civilized levels of noise and not overheating or causing any other problems. Only real problem I can name is the model's tendency for rusting in northern climate where road salt is used.

My first MBZ was a 91 300e, white with a dove grey bottom. I lowered it with Ebach springs and it handled great. Later upgraded to a dark blue 96 e430 I think it was called. I loved them and thought they were both beautiful!

Unequalled praise from the automotive press upon its introduction, and a technological marvel light years ahead of the competition from Europe and the US, especially the multi link suspension, aerodynamic monocoque body, and sound deadening filler and glass. And its the champion of reliability along with the fj80

My brother has one. Noisy diesel and kinda heavy. But here is the thing: we drove to remote town over a 100km. The car flew 80-100km/h over totally destroyed pothole filled "road" . We flew by BMW E60, Toyota Camry, Hyundais , Opels and what not. I was astonished how this 1991 W124 handled those absolutely destroyed gravel filled total mess of a road with comfort.
