How the 4k 60p in crop factor mode on the a7cII compare to 4k 60p on a FX30/a6700 when regarding low light? are they virtually the same or a FF sensor is still better even in crop mode?
I won't pretend to know the answer but theoricaly speaking, since an A7CII has less pixels in its crop factor mode than a A6700 each pixel should take more space therefor have more light and have a tiny adventage I guess.
The Sony ZV-E1 should have been released with these two bodies but called the Sony A7C S since it directly takes from the A7S III but in a more compact form factor (same body as these new A7C II/R if I'm not mistaken) and then Sony would have had one of the most craziest body launches in history!
@@RamTengridoubt it. Sony will probably discontinue the A7s to continue their cinema line. You can clearly see that with the fact fx series are getting really good firmware updates while a7sIII has been left unloved.

Great work Jason, if you come again to Indonesia please make a workshop/seminar of how to do this amazing work! Take care J&V :) Btw just bought A6700 and so happy with it especially the lens option now is so good.
i can't wait, these look SO nice. I have the OG 7c and absolutely love it. It's an amazing camera. I'm stoked they're updating the line and continuing it!
Great video! I was on the cusp of getting an a6700 but now conflicted! Would love to see a comparison of a6700 and a7CII. If I went full frame, I'd prob use aps-c lenses occasionally for travel, so comparing a7CII in crop mode and a6700 with the same lens would be super interesting to me! Enjoying the channel.
@@lucashome It's leagues ahead if you ignore the atrocious rolling shutter for video. It's even worse than the rolling shutter on the a7c. No cinema line camera will use the 33mp a7iv sensor because of this.
@@RiposteThis Just use the right tool for the right job. Use the A1 if rolling shutter is an issue, or a Komodo. Also, most people don't even know there's a pan speed limit depending on frame rate and focal length. Even global shutter sensors can't fix bad techniques. Not to mention 1 or 2 whip pans is fine, but if you exclusively need whip pans, something is terribly wrong with the directing.
Get an A7CR then - you get 26mp crop mode, which basically means you get all the functionality of an A6700 out of the A7CR (albeit at a much higher cost). I went from an A7R (1st gen) and a A6000 to a A7R IV replacing both and its a perfect "two birds with one stone" camera if you shoot both APSC and FF with Sony lenses. If you shoot crop mode with a 33mp sensor (as in the A7C II) you only get 15mp - which whilst enough is going to be noticeably worse than the a6700 or even the older 24mp A6xxx cameras.
These two new cameras honestly make the a6700 more attractive just for the 4k 120. Just a little sad to see them crippling the feature set on the a7cR. Personally I'd go for the a6700 or the a7rV
As a hybrid shooter I feel a6700 offer a better value for VDO. For still these two cameras are superior for being ff. Though, not many people would be able to tell them apart anyway on social media.

On the a7cii, when you go into apsc mode and activate clear image zoom, does it still maintain eye autofocus like when you do clear image in full frame mode?
Full frame 4k60 for me would justify upgrading my current a7c. Sony seems to want to force the use of 4k60 on cameras like the zv-e1 and fx3. Why not enable fullframe 4k60 on this camera? Damn it!
Very detailed, entertaining, and engaging video. The production quality in this is really getting pretty good. No one has gone through video as detailed as that.
Jason, I'm still not sure which one to buy to replace my existing A7c. I care more about still image quality vs Video, but weighting the high ISO performance of the cII vs the megapixels of the R. Is there anything else to the R which makes it a better still camera? Does it have more DR or do I just get more pixels to crop for my extra $800?
Super, super interested in whether one or both of these can make the most of crop mode to use APS-C glass. I'd love a deep dive into how cropped A7CR compares to the 6000-series 24mp APS-C. And of course - @jason, does the A7CR finally replace the RX1R-II?

Hi Jason. Great review. I bought the A7cii. One of the reasons I bought the A7Cii was the 33 megapixel photo count. Now that I have the camera I find the settings only allow me to reach 28 megapixels on the photo settings. Have you seen this in your working with the A7Cii? I am wondering if it is a software upgrade. Any ideas?

Great to watch this finally released first view on the new A7CII and A7CR, great in-depth look into the 4K-60 conundrum! I like Vivian’s announcements in each of the review categories😊 Hope to hear a bit more about over heating test results in a future in-depth review. Also, I know battery life is taking a HUGE hit (540/510 CIPA vs. 740/680 CIPA in the original A7C) which is both expected but still disappointing. Would also be interested to know if A7C2 suffers from what some users have complained about noise in shadow details and also not as sharp eye AF when using wide open apertures as the A7IV? Finally, do you think it’s worth upgrading from the original A7C to A7C2 for photography?
Ok so I am confused as i do not know what camera to upgrade to. Part of me says A6700 and upgrade from 6600 and the other says to go for the A7C11 OR R. I love photography and also shoot video too. It's just too much to make a decision. Give me some idea on perhaps if you were in the same boat - what would you go for and why?
I’m on the same boat wanting to upgrade from 6600. But I mostly want higher resolution since I’m taking more landscape pictures and the detail is lacking so I’m thinking full frame is a must. So maybe a7cr since I already have apsc lenses and I can switch between ff and apsc and still retain resolution. Or go for a7cii and keep ff lenses and get a zv-e1 or similar vlogging camera for video only.
No 4k60 on APSC mode on the a7C R is bummer for me. Just tested it out on my a7r V and it’s the same. Wanted a more compact solution and use an APSC lens from time to time during travel while keeping the same capabilities. Looks like I’m leaning towards the a7c ii.

Hi Jason. I've been watching your channel for a long time. You are doing a great job. I would like to ask if you are going to release a Setup Guide for the A7CII like you previously released a guide for the A7IV? This would be very helpful.
My question is that if I buy A7Cmark 2, will I be able to rely on the view finder to the point where I would not need to use LCD screen to make changes? I have hard time reading fine print from that close. If I need to use LCD, than I rather get ZVE1.
Nice review. Very comprehensive. One correction... Doubling the pixel count does not double the resolution. You need 4x the pixel count for that...assuming the lens and shooting technique can deliver the detail.
I have an A7C mark 1 and have been looking forward to an upgrade, but the technical limitations is not compelling me enough to upgrade. I’m sorry the A7R is way too expensive.

I'd say keep the a7IV unless you're filming SLOG3 all the time. The LUT Previewing in that case is incredibly helpful!
Brilliant Video as usual!
Where is the Mark II branding on the 7C II?
Zv-e1 is nice, but for long format recording, the overheating makes it a non-option. These new C series options seem to have the heat issues sorted!
Just get a FX30 🤔
FX30… or Panasonic S5ii
I often record with fx30 for +1h30 for live events. I had zero issues with overheating even in summer
My question is that if I buy A7Cmark 2, will I be able to rely on the view finder to the point where I would not need to use LCD screen to make changes? I have hard time reading fine print from that close. If I need to use LCD, than I rather get ZVE1.
does a7c ii have sensor cover like a7iv when it is turned off?
yes you can enable that
Nice review.
Always informative and entertaining 🙂 Cheers Jason!
This is why I'm subscribed to Jason for so many years now, because of his style (informative and comedic way) 😍
which one sony a7iii 105mm 1.4 or canon eos R 85mm 1.2 for portrait bro😍
I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Does the a7CR have focus bracketing like the a7RV? If not, that is something that I just don't understand.
