Thanks for the great content Josh! Here's a list of topics that are going through my mind as a relatively new OPTCG player: * Deciding whether to go first or second * Deciding whether to keep or mulligan * Managing & sequencing DON!! * Picking cards when searching * Reading the game state * Deciding whether to block * Deciding whether to counter * Deciding whether to trigger * Understanding momentum shifts * Applying pressure to the board * Attacking the opponent’s hand * Estimating mathematical lethal * Deciding whether to go for the kill I would really appreciate it if you could touch on some of these in your Fundamentals series :)
I like this video because as a beginner coming into the game I feel like much of the content out there focuses on meta decks(which is understandable since we all want to win tourneys) but i really enjoyed it cause it took a step back and focused on some of the fundamentals, which I need to understand a bit better… thanks , keep them coming please
Thank you Joshua, your video has cover a lot of the doubts I had. Im starting to play the game, I was struggling due to overprotecting my life points as other games. But now, I understand the concepts, thank you. ❤🎉
Im not sure if there would be a general way to determine but fundamentals on when to mulligan. There are a lot of times when I mulligan a hand that is roughly 30th percentile of possible hands I could get and I get absolutely bricked on the mulligan. Ive mostly been thinking about whether its more likely than not to be better with the mulligan but there is probably some general rule of what 'minimum playable hand' would be to keep instead of mulliganning and getting worse.
Love this video, thanks to you and a lot of guys like you making these vids I went from 0-4 at my locals to 3-1 in 3 tournaments. My biggest question is... Where did you get the music from the OP SIM! I need it for my webcam games with my mates 😊
This feels like the tipping point i made recently. I am very new to the game so been using locals as a testing ground. Been getting walloped but still feel like I'm making progress
I feel like it really depends on the match up. If you’re playing against Doffy, it’s best to swing at board to tax the hand and keep up with their quick character spawning. Pudding, I find it’s best to not swing at life early on, to make it harder to use the leader ability. Then, swing at board to tax the hand. Enel, swinging board all day to tax the hand. Bonney, a case could be made to swing life more frequently cause it makes Hody more risky maybe idk Lucci, it’s gg either way once they hit 8 don.
@GR8NE55 I don't understand this comment. Like are you advocating for a 1x limit? Because Luccis ability mills for free so you'll always have the pieces you need in trash, especially by 9-10 don
It's stupid how broken Gecko is. To make matters worse, it's not just the Gecko + Rebecca that you have to constantly deal with against Lucci and other black-related Decks, but also against BY Luffy since Gecko can revive the kids and make board that's not interactable thanks to the Sabo blockers.
I like to use don as the currency to check the value of each play. Each card is worth some Don!! So every play have a bigger Don!! Impact and it helps to find the best play
care to elaborate more, seems like a very interesting concept. Is it like using a couple of your Don to establish a small blocker to make your opponent use their own don and resources to remove vs using those same Don for a bigger swing?
@@0doge632 Moria is devastating any way you look at it 🤣 I love the card, but I believe that for the health of the game, it should be banned/restricted or archetype locked.
Life as a resource is why I think mono leaders are so much better than dual-colour leaders. Having 5 life over 4 means you can take 1 swing while getting an additional card to draw. Bandai thinks being able to put 2 colours in your deck is somehow so OP that they need to play with 1 less card and 1 less swing lol.
To all newcomers to the one piece tcg, you'll never be good at the game because you won't be able to get any cards to play with, just like myself 😢😢😢😢😢and there is not even a digital version on the game.😭😭😭😭😭

As someone who gets overwhelmed, I love this layout and its super easy to follow. Plus the way you explain it just makes way more sense to me 🙏
this is really cool and i am stoked to see you rolling this out. great technical analysis

Love these types of videos where i get to learn about the theory of optcg. Cant wait for more of this stye of video!
Hey! I'm going through this series, and I find it very useful and also extremely important, as a rookie player. Greetings from El Salvador.
Super new player and this is a god send. Thank you for starting this series!
This is a great beginner resource!! And helped me consolidate what I've managed to figure out 😅
Great video, it was very helpful. Please do more of these! You earned a sub.
Great resource!!! Also kinda philosophic at a certain point ("make sure to use your life, dont waste it!)
I think also important is when to play a character or only use the dons for power the swings its a really power up
Knowing when to counter or take a hit to a character or life would be very helpful
Hey, just starting into optcg, VERY NICE AND USEFUL VIDEOS. Thank you

i would love to hear about your process for deck building. that is something i have never been able to particularly well, especially from scratch.
Dude great video!! So helpful!!
Sometimes I have trouble knowing when to swing at life or board early-mid game
What deck are you running?

@IRKong funny seeing you around here 😁
If it’s Nami you swing life lolol then watch as your opponent aggressively shuffles through their hand for counters
Great series bro! Looking forward to the next one. Subbed.
What do you think Black Rob Lucci deck would fall in the spectrum?
Thank you for the information
this video added a wrinkle to my brain
Im new and these tips are appreciated.
I play Green Uta and Red/Purple Uta 😅
Don is the default resource and how you maximize the board and game state.
It's why Moria is so busted because he generates 3x his value.
Yeah Moria x Rebecca combo is nuts
Only in 1 deck and only when you have ALL of the right cards in trash.
@GR8NE55 I don't understand this comment. Like are you advocating for a 1x limit? Because Luccis ability mills for free so you'll always have the pieces you need in trash, especially by 9-10 don

If you see it like that then moria is devastating
