I had no idea so much of the arc had changed in the anime. Best joke in the original version is most of the straw hats being down with stealing Captain Foxy so they win the last round by default, until Robin says, "I don't want that weirdo on my ship," and the rest of the straw hats are all, bullet dodged, thank god we didn't take Foxy to be one of us. And the manga cuts to Foxy crying miserably.
Yeah, the reason most people think it's filler is not because it's full of random games; it's because half of it is actually filler. They changed one davy back fight into two.
He still is sort of introduced tangentially to the Foxy Pirates in the anime, just right after a filler Foxy Pirates return arc. It really is amazing how much Toei managed to stretch out this one section of the story before finally getting to Water 7.
Long Ring Long Land arc is not only not filler, but it is also critical to Zoro and Sanjis relationship, as it is the first time the two agnowlage each other as equal and set aside their differences to accomplish their shared goal. This is when Zoro and Sanji finally becomes a part of the same crew.
It also does establish pretty firmly that Luffy will not give up a single member of his crew, which is important for Water 7/Ennies Lobby and Whole Cake Island later on. You could argue that Arlong Park already made this point, but for me, LRLL solidifies how important this specific crew actually is for Luffy. No one is dispensible, NO ONE.
@@DaxSchaffer It goes a long way, but I don't think it's quite solidified by the end. Usopp still doubts his position on the crew in Enies Lobby. They fought to get Chopper back, but he's a doctor. He's useful, necessary even. Would Luffy have fought as hard if Usopp had been taken? Of course, but Usopp still needed to be convinced. Long Ring Long Land contributes exactly as many pieces to the puzzle as it needed to (and maybe too many pieces in the anime that are actually from a different puzzle).
This is also the only arc in which Nico Robin has to collaborate and work with the rest of the crew, instead of going off on her own to do her thing, without this arc there's a lot less emotional attachment to her
@@BleydXVI I guess it would be more accurate to say that LRLL does well to establish Luffy's IDEAL of not wanting to abandon any of his crew, which gives room for this ideal to be properly challenged in following arcs. Usopp is a good test of this because he, more than anyone else, does come the closest to being left behind (until he finally apologizes). Luffy didn't WANT to leave Usopp behind, but he heeded Zoro's perspective that Usopp's respect for their captain needed to precede any potential forgiveness on their part. Luffy's resolve to not lose any of his crew is made most firm by the time we watch him and Sanji go at it in WCI. We do have to wonder a little if even they can resolve that conflict and facilitate Sanji's return from such an abusive situation. As you said, LRLL provides the right puzzle pieces for letting this theme organically fall into place across the series. So I think we can all agree at least somewhat that it does serve some long term (long land) narrative purposes.
@@beywheelzhater8930 Can confirm. I read the manga first so when I watched the anime version of the Davy Back Fight and the roller derby happened I said "What the hell is this?!"
ever since we learned about the Rocks pirates I have had a theory. How Rocks got that monster crew together was through a Davey back fight. Which is why it was introduced earlier in the series so Oda would not have to explain this ridiculousness during a climactic part of the story.
Foxy genuinely punched out with Luffy far better than I think most antagonists would have. There's a solid argument to be made that despite his looney-tunes antics, Foxy is kind of a boss - as evidenced by the fact that he'd never lost a Davy Back Fight until running into our titular crackhead and his band of lunatics. Like seriously - the dude has a crew of like 500 people, has a physique that allows him to fistfight Luffy (not well but he did it), a *massive* ship and variety of gadgets scattered throughout it, *and* his Devil Fruit. If Foxy had actually come at them head on in a *fight* instead of playing games, they might have actually won just due to the massive numbers difference and the Slow Slow fruit. It's honestly a *really* good thing Foxy likes to play Davy Back Fights instead of just attacking people.
I wish you had mentioned the explanation as to why everything was long in the island. That being: everything was so ordinary that it grew long to be more exiting.
The funniest part about how this arc feels like filler is the Davy Back fight in the anime was literally given filler events with the whole “second fight” thing.
Yeah, the rules should state that everyone can only participate in 1 match and then the three matches are the boat race with Usopp, Nami and Robin, followed by the ball game thing with Zoro, Sanji and Chopper (who can’t participate because he’s on Foxys crew now), and then the boxing match with Luffy. So cut out the other events and I think you actually get a nice little breather in between Skypia and Water 7.
Main reason it feels like filler to me is that it's a setup where things get traded but nothing really changed at the end of the arc. Sure there was the moment with Aokigi but that's disconnected from the rest of the arc, again making it feel like filler. Only real thing that mattered was remembering the slow beam when Luffy was attacked by the love beam
@@bigkirbyhj666 p much, they also changed some character interactions up which is p bad for an arc whose greatest value is the character work done in it. Like was said here, the notoriety of this arc definitely falls on how it was adapted.

It also introduced Wings of Pirate King with Zoro and Sanji fighting together for the first time (and from the moment they agreed to work together they didn't say a word showing that they have a great teamwork if they want to) It was also an opportunity for Oda to show some wacky parts of OP world building like Davy Black Fights. I feel that Oda had it in mind but couldn't put it in any other arc So yeah, not peak but it gave us Afro Luffy so I'm not complaining
The part where Luffy is chasing Foxy around the ship was already the funniest part of the whole arc and your roast commentary on top of it elevated it from a 10/10 to an 11/10.
Monkey D. Dynamite 🤣. I absolutely LOVED Luffy in an Afro and it needs to make a reappearance in the arc when they find the one piece. 🤣❤️ Great video!
Long Ring Long Land is genuinely one of my favorite arcs. It's a great little palet cleanser after finishing Skypia, getting us ready for a new adventure by easing us into it with a pretty light and silly contest. The foreshadowing in it is great too, hinting at the devastation that would result from a Straw Hat leaving the crew before we get to Water 7. Plus, it gives our first taste of just how dangerous the World Government can be when an admiral just suddenly appears and no difs Luffy and Robin almost instantly. The comedy is fantastic in its own right, too.
I can honestly say that this is the first time I have ever enjoyed this ark. I will never watch the original again cause I wanted to pull my hair out, but I'll watch Mugiwara recap it any day of the week.
You can dislike something all you want but fact remains that it would make sense unless you want Luffy and shanks to try to kill each other??? I'd rather see a Davey back fight. With shanks crew it would be wayyyy more intense
@@benasay8279 No no, it's not that I don't like it, I just find it funny that this arc is so random and adds so little to the story that so many hope it becomes relevant in retrospect. However, it's still fun as a side quest that the Straw Hats fell into right before one of the biggest arcs in the series.
Foxy quickly became my favorite One Piece antagonist. Every time he appears after this, it feels like finding Patches in a Soulsborne game. You know he's going to betray you at the end, but you'll let him b/c it doesn't really negatively impact you that much, and it's funny, so it's worth it. Also, coincidentally, I just watched the Nebulandia movie for the first time last night (binging One Piece movies after finally becoming current w/ the anime), and immediately the next day, this vid drops, lol.
It's honestly glorious how later filler arcs make Foxy even more of a Team Rocket style jobber than BUGGY (like Buggy somehow at least got shit done whether it was his intention or not)
The difference between manga and anime on this arc is night and day. People that hate this arc clearly have only watched the anime and not read it. Short 3 games, aokiji encounter, then on to one of the best arcs in one piece.

This videos have been getting more and more people into One Piece, and I think it’s because your videos are finally making people view One Piece from the POV that Oda wants people to view it from, as a goofy, unbelievably random, and joyful series. They tried to watch One Piece before going into it expecting a super serious and badass fighting anime, which One Piece has its fair share of, but it’s not the theme of the story. It was also an opportunity for Oda to show some wacky parts of OP world building like Davy Black Fights. I feel that Oda had it in mind but couldn't put it in any other arc
So yeah, not peak but it gave us Afro Luffy so I'm not complaining
LRLL is the most filler canon arc, G-8 is the most canon filler arc
😂 I have G 8 on my phone. I really love it
Hell yeah, the stupidest bad guy this side of the Red Line
The part where Luffy is chasing Foxy around the ship was already the funniest part of the whole arc and your roast commentary on top of it elevated it from a 10/10 to an 11/10.
Monkey D. Dynamite 🤣. I absolutely LOVED Luffy in an Afro and it needs to make a reappearance in the arc when they find the one piece. 🤣❤️
Great video!
I’ve been waiting for Mugi to cover this arc for a long time.
I just realized that anime version is so much longer than manga version
this is the best arc
"Is Foxy in Elbaf?"
That is a theory since Shanks grand fleet Is a bunch of failed pirates and one of them looked a bit like foxy
I find it hilarious how so many theorists keep saying that Luffy and Shanks will have a Davy Back Fight just to justify the existence of this arc
The justification for the arc is that it's fucking hilarious.
No this is the most insanely foreshadowing we’re getting holy knight foxy
@@jjging4308 I'm sure you're wrong, but I'll pray every day that you're not.
Yeah, I don't mind the arc in the anime but it's not even bad by any measure in the manga!
Remember, they had Chopper as the emergency food supply. So they did not need to eat the octopus.
Are we ever gonna get an Impel down is hilarious? Cause a crack head breaking into a prison only to be rescued by Tim curry from rocky picture horror show is hilarious
We kinda got one in the Marineford is Hilarious video but I'd like to see a full one
My favorite arcs
1.Thriller Bark
2.Long ring long land
This made my day and I'm glad you brought up the best movie of all time Black Dynamite. Thank you for making these and I'm excited for the next one! Crossing my fingers for a Big News Morgans and Jimmy Scoops update.
When you started singing "you're yhe best, around..." I totally lost it. You had me rolling 😂
Here shines some good news in an other wise weary world.
Where my boy jimmy scoops at. Wish he could have seen this
Finally this is the content I’ve been waiting for . The most funny arc
thinking about long ring long land as elementary school field day makes this LSD trip of an arc way more palatable
😂😂 I know right it reminds me of better times
Sanji:Why do i have to be the ball?
Hey nami says you look cute with the ball hat
Sanji: I was born to be the ball 😂😂😂
davy back will return in the end in straw hats vs. red hairs
Ussop outsnipes Yassop
Zoro beats Beckman in a sword duel
Luffy beats Shanks in a contest to hunt the most Sea Kings armed with nothing but haki
Long, LOOOOOOONG, LAAAAAAAND.
As Oda returns from break OUR ONE PIECE SAVIOR MUGGY GOOF HAS RETURNED!!! HALLELUJAH 🙌🏾
The moment when Luffy accepted the Davy back fight and the Dialouge between Usopp, Luffy and the Grandpa got me so hard
cannot wait for the Wano is hilarious video to be made, these videos are peak 😂
I'm mostly excited for Enies Lobby is hilarious because I'm curious on how he'd spin the narrative that CP0 Agents are completely justified in their World Government quests.
Loved you in the reverie. Can’t believe you sold so hard on the admiral debate though 😂
BRO I TRIED GREENBULL IS JUST SO SORRY
@@Mugiwaranogoofy it’s completely understandable honestly. It’s like making foxy a yonko. It just isn’t fair 🤣
watching again to put into my discord the "this is as good time to crash out as any" :D its golden
Every time I see a new post a day has been saved
FINALLY, ONE OF THE LONGEST MOST BORING MOST FUNNIEST ARCS
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE REVEAL OF FOXYS SISTER BEING IMU
Came back to this after yesterdays chapter.
I needed to remember the greatness of Foxy ant his split head.
The new sharpie moustache is kinda criminal, but I still love him 🤣🤣
"he's the best...A-ROU-ND!!!!" sent me 😭😂 🤣😂
You do not know how much I have been waiting for the next episode of this series, on a day I really needed this. Thank you brother and may God bless you and your family 🙌🏼✝️
long ring long land is the best arc you cannot tell me otherwise
One Piece is so ridiculous! 😂
Much love to all the Crack Heads! Mugiwara's community is truly amazing. Don't forget to like the viddy.
Preciate you my dawgs!!! Much love!!!
Zoro must be an insanely good teacher to teach Luffy how to skate in 3 minutes, like he could probably teach someone swordplay in a day and full Santoryu in a week.
I can’t wait until you do water 7 is hilarious or enies lobby is hilarious because those are my two favorite arcs.
Binged a ton of your videos in the past few weeks and glad the next one is here!
It's a fun Arc, admittedly, it's goofy silly fun...considering what happens next....silly fun isn't bad
It's funny that there was a filler arc that felt cannon just before a cannon arc that felt filler
I'm grateful you posted this because I never watched Long Ring Long Land and I never planned to. This is a good enough summary of what happened.
Ngl I had no idea of the hate when I watched this arc and I cried laughing the entire time. Its so funny
This is unironically my favorite arc
My head cannon is that when Luffy finally sees Shanks, they will have a Davy Back fight and thats how he'll "take down" his friend
This is a pretty dumb headcanon (in the best way possible), I love it!
With the gear 5 afro😂😂😂😂
Maybe this video will finally make Tekking appreciate this arc.
MnG: skips past sea-monkey opening to the arc
the remainder of the fanged frog pirates: are we a joke to you?
This videos have been getting more and more people into One Piece, and I think it’s because your videos are finally making people view One Piece from the POV that Oda wants people to view it from, as a goofy, unbelievably random, and joyful series. They tried to watch One Piece before going into it expecting a super serious and badass fighting anime, which One Piece has its fair share of, but it’s not the theme of the story. These videos are helping people view One Piece in the way it should be
I love this arc.
I'm pretty sure your videos are the perfect way to get someone to get into one piece that's skeptical about starting the longest anime out that's still going strong.
Please don't stop these bruh! It's top content! Especially with the remake of one piece and the popularity rising this will age like fine wine. Hit every arch!
Sanji and Zoro are such a good duo they never fail to put a smile on my face
Reading th e manga long ring long land was one of my favorite arcs. you've encouraged me to reread it thanks for the video.
The funny thing about Long Ring Long Land is that Oda himself said it was filler. He made canon filler to introduce Aokiji.
MUGI I AM AS HYPED FOR THIS AS I AM FOR 1112
Oooooo boy thanks for reminding me we finally back 😤😤
@@Mugiwaranogoofy bro im so desperate i looked at the raws in japanese and just invented my own headcannon for the chapter xD
0:19 I noticed that your shirt changed, someone else probably pointed this out already, but i just wanted to say that i noticed this time
finally, the episode I've been waiting for all along-land.
My favorite arc in the whole show- finally
FEEEEFEFEFEFEFE
Let’s go was hopeing we’d get more of this soon
This is the arc I go back to rewatch the most of any arc.
