I dipped my toe in Mastodon a few years ago: joined a "Solarpunk" group. I couldn't take the total lack of self-awareness for more than a couple days: people trying to believe that a brighter future would be built by queer/trans gardeners. Mind, this was before the summer of 2020 and the ridiculous segregated half-assed salsa gardens of Seattle. That was the nail in the coffin of my affectation of anarchism.

"Your authenticity begins when your options end" - PVK dropping wisdom. Reminds me of the Pulp song "common people". A rich person larping as a common person can never truly understand what it's like to be poor because "if you called your Dad, he could stop it all".

I just turned 65, and I remember Ronald Reagan (who I didn’t vote for, and sat out the 1980 and 1984 presidential elections).
Few acknowledge that California was the first state to pass no fault divorce in 1970, which was signed into law by then governor Ronald Reagan. I don’t need to bring up what that’s done to traditional families and marriages.

I find this point very interesting because this was something also done in a lot of communist countries as a way of liberalizing marriage, libertarians and the like always try to paint the dynamic of “true liberalism” vs “collectivism”, but don’t ever seem to consider all the everyday societal notions that they share with leftists.

The value of a promise is only as reliable as the person who made it and the authority and agency of the person to deliver on that promise. I would definitely agree that a promise kept is hope realized. People need to find hope in making and keeping their own promises and be an example for others to follow. We also need to emphasize our expectations for those in authority to keep their promises with the understanding that their retaining their position of authority relies on them doing so. And when they don't, we individually and collectively remove our support of their authority. Hopeless people will be the co-authors of their own demise and that alone is a reason to adjust our attitudes. Thank you Benjamin for facilitating this very interesting discussion.

You guys are definitely right that community is a hell of a lot more difficult in the real than it is in the abstract… that’s usually why it only functions in desperate circumstances Grounded by a common ideology or precarious survival situation. Usually Requires kinship or merging families for long-term sustainability, because nobody is gonna tolerate a Non-contributor without a very good reason… like tolerating a loser brother-in-law Who receives money from your wife, because you love your wife.
Also I think it’s wrong to say that humanity would’ve disappeared if we didn’t stop heroin… or don’t stop tech; you can’t stop it, there will always be somebody in their basement inventing and selling on the black market, or programs like DARPA Creating cyborgs or mutant chimera either for profit or just because they can; but also the only humans to die off would be by natural selection.. those who take heroin for headaches, and let their offspring die because they’re high. Or they get shot trying to steal food or money for heroin. Opium bars were definitely bad for Chinese society, but we still have a Hell of a lot of Chinese people alive today. I mean, I don’t want everybody in society having their own personal nuke or anything, but I don’t see how you can stop technological progress? How would you do it?

Not as bad as when my transgender sibling told me that I wouldn't "know integrity if it gang-raped me" because I wouldn't intercede with my Dad to give him $5,000 for another nose job. I don't think integrity would involve itself with a gang-rape. Not sure that any Church should be properly described as "sexy" or a "hot chick" either. One of the problems with Christianity is that it’s not sexy. It’s flabby and grey. Christianity needs to exit the passions of the people again. Men used to really believe in god like the pilgrims or the crusaders. Men like Meister Eckhart or St Francis really believed and wanted to know God. Now most Christian are merely effeminate moralists who believe virtue comes from merely following a set of rules. They don’t have the fire in the stomach.

We Pagans have very deep relationships
with all things that are in our physical environment
unlike Monotheists who want to be sheltered from the world,
since they believe what Gnostics and Buddhists believe,
they believe all things in the physical world are corrupt and not worth honoring.
We Pagans are the opposite in every way,
we believe the world is holy and always in harmony.
The act of veneration brings forth bonds in the physical world.
Without honor there can be no society,
    there would be no religion.
What people value shapes what they think and do.
We Pagan invoke Goddesses and Gods in specific areas for protection,
to make plants grow, and for many other reasons.
We know the Goddesses and Gods are always with us,
    within all things.
We have no fear of "climate change"
because changes in the world are caused by Deities.
    Even the scientists know this,
    they venerate our Goddess Nature.
They call a forest "Nature" because they know
    that she is there.
They know that the Goddess Nature is always present,
but their Gnostic biases make them have a love/hate relationship
    with Mother Nature.
And Mother Earth is important to a scientist,
but she is seen as something vague and abstract,
a sort of phantom. Scientists collect theories
to validate their religion of uncertainty.
    Scientists are followers of Pyrrhonism,
which is named after Pyrrho of Elis,
a Greek philosopher in the 4th century BCE
who was credited by the later Pyrrhonists
with forming the first comprehensive school of skeptical thought.
There can be no true Christian Revival or any Monotheist Revival
because they do not trust the world or each other.
It could only come by brute force and scare tactics
because they thrive on terror, since they believe the world is a bad place.
They truly believe that this world is evil and that's why they are miserable,
that's why they become atheists and don't have a strong sense of a higher purpose.
They are scared of everyone that lives differently than them
    just like scientists.
Greco-Roman traditions have stayed the same for thousands of years.
There is no technology that can do what we do.
Just because the world may look different,
    doesn't mean it is different.
The world is always going to be the same.
    People are tribal.

You don't need to go as far back as the Ottoman's. Singapore is a multiethnic society that is politically stable. Political parties are broken down by race and ethnicity, and there's broad social values based on tolerance of differences within a general Confucian framework based on respect for the authority of responsible government.

Probably because there are contradictions in your thinking? Or -- classic Catholic -- guilt, feeling unworthy.
Oh dear! Put away your childish toys! Peace to such nonsense!
If you want to get rid of the contradictions and sort your mind out, the true from the false, once and for all, read and study a course in miracles, the book that Jesus gifted to the world for this, the era of Harvest....
The workbook lessons consists of daily lessons that occupy your mind every waking moment of the day -- and into your sleep. It is a lot of lifting. But when you remove the barriers that exist in your own perception, reality shows itself. In this sense, you don't need to do anything, you merely get out of your own way
ACIM is for the select few who want to accept intellectually and emotionally the lessons of Christ. The Christian church and the teachings of Christ are not always the same. The church in many ways is like a security blanket. Much of it is contradictory, and this is merely ignored. If you think God punished his only son _because he was good_ you are in deep troubles!
Remember what Jesus spoke in secret to the three disciples. Peace to you.
