If you focus on fire damage it's a good idea to dive into the illusion school and get the fear perk as fire causes fear and using the perk actually increases fire damage.
This is true, but get both augment flames perks first then get the aspect o terror perk for about 25% extra damage. Also don't forget about Azhidal mask that adds another 25% damage.
I am the one who flocks i've still got to try complete the game as a stealth buils but i hate playing as a stealth build because theres no thrill out of sneaking around killing everything in one hit because it is a cowards way of fighting
me too, but it's not memories for me for I've been playing the game regularly since its launch. it's good to learn many unnoticed details about the game and discovering new types of character builds.
Another useful tip if you're starting off as a destruction mage: take the cart to Riften when you have 500 gold, and go hire Marcurio the mage in the Bee and Barb as a mercenary. Then go back to Whiterun and get Marcurio killed at a giant camp in the Tundra. Easy Adept Robes of Destruction at lvl 1.
You can kill Niria (I dont know her name on english i am playing on russian) and you can take EXPERT robe of destruction, You just need to pay 250 gold to Tolfdirl cuz you killed member of college.
With my mages I also focus on Alchemy. Make some potions to increase and/or restore my magicka in a pinch as well as make some potions to enhance my spells. For this, I have a few tips; We all know Anise's Cabin. If you walk through the wooded area straight toward her cabin at the start of the game there will always be a random encounter. Use that to get some items or level some spells. Right by Anise's Cabin on the drop off there is a random tree on the edge. Jump to that and between it and the rocks there is an animal skeleton. There will always be a flawless emerald worth 750 gold inside the rib age which will respawn. In the areas of the rivers where the salmon jump upstream is where you should farm for Salmon Roe. Simply catch them *as they jump*. The river by the road on your way to Whiterun at the start is full of Salmon jumping upstream. In the river traveling away from Riverwood is where I suggest you search for Histicarp. And if you head far enough down that river you can come accross a small ruin in the water. There may be some items down there but mainly you should be collecting Nordic Barnacles that grow on the ruin walls and steps. Take the chicken egg(s?) in Riverwood. You can either use the alchemy station in the inn there or head to Whiterun. The farms located around it have several chicken nests. Use an alchemy station (in the inn in Riverwood or the alchemy shop in Whiterun). Combine these ingredients. You can use three at a time or two, but always use the Salmon Roe. You can make some pretty awesome Waterbreathing potions. They're pretty good potions no matter your level, they're worth a lot, and they level your alchemy a lot with each potion you make. I know this video is a little old, but I thought I'd leave this for anyone just happening on or revisiting it. Sorry if I didn't explain things well...
I wonder why Major slack attack, never buys the lakeview manor home. There he could plant all those ingredients instead of using all that time searching for them.
Another "strategy" for some gold; In The Honningbrew Meadery (by Whiterun), there is this one room in particular with a shit load of barrels. Each of these barrels have 4-7 bottles of Honningbrew in them. Steal every bottle you can from here you can, and sell them to a fence. First time I did this with my thief build was during the "Dampened Spirits" quest in the Thieves Guild questline, after Goldenglow. I racked up an estimated 330 bottles, and got an easy 3000 gold from Tonilia, the fence in the Ragged Flagon. I don't know if they respawn, or not... But if they do... _STONKS 4 DAYS_
Two things. 1). Restoration has an awesome perk (forget name) that enhances your Magicka regeneration by 25%. Totally worth it, especially early on. 2). Specializing in Shock spells lets you learn the Disintegrate perk, which is incredible. Kills people when you knock them below 15% health with Shock spells. Saves time and health. Otherwise, great guide!
1. Recovery and yea, it is incredibly underrated. Idk what Michael was on about in discounting it especially when recommending the Atronach Stone. 2. Yes yes yes
Clairvoyance is a useful spell in dungeons. When there is a fork in the road, you can use it to see which is the main path and which is a side area so you can loot the side areas without having to double back or miss them.
He is just hating. I found clairvoyance so useful, especially walking my way towards the Greybeards, because I want to discover new trails and places. I tend to get distracted on other quests or I tend to play adventurer, side tracked. There is just so much to do with Skyrim.
I've always been happy it was in the game, I tend to get turned around (yes, even in skyrim's linear dungeons) and I use it whenever I realize there is no way up that cliff to the place I need to reach.
Tip for Destruction Magic: Use more than one element. This will make sure you always have something your enemy isn't immune or resostant to. It'd be pretty embarassing when your fully decked out pyromancer can't do squat against a flame atronach. I suggest fire and shock, since both are available before you leave Helgen. Also, get that Magicka cost down, or else you're going to be magicless in about four or five firebolts.
I have seen a lot of playthroughs were they are level 30+ and still are using firebolts lol, by that point you should either have fireballs, ice storm or chain lightning. And eventually incinerate, icy spear and thunderbolt when enchanting is maxed out. With alchemy fortify destruction potions you can reach over 200 points of damage which is necessary on master and legendary settings.
It’s interesting how the further you go into the past, most people were generalists. Preindustrial people have to know how to do almost every job, medieval people had to be able to do at least 2-3 different jobs, industrial age people typically did one type of job and knew how to help out with basic tasks at a few other jobs, and most people now only know how to do their job unless they’ve got past experience (we change careers more often than specialists in the past did). So the saying probably comes from a societal regret that we are no longer incentivized to be more adaptable and no longer as self-sufficient in a pinch. And admiration for those who have managed to be generalists in societies that tend to produce specialists.
Until you're fighting a boss/mini boss that is the same level as you and you're having a difficult time killing it due to all of you damage skills being low level.
*Vendor:* "Clairvoyance! This spell will let you know exactly where you need to go. It appears on my compass." **pointing at thin air** "Right here." *Vendor:* "... what?" *Dragonborn:* "If I just follow the quest marker, it'll get me where I need to go. And it doesn't even cost magicka! It's just..." **waves at thin air** "... right there. You really can't see it?" *Vendor:* "... what!?" *Dragonborn:* "What about the mark on the door there? Surely you can see that. It tells me there's something I need to do behind that door." *Vendor:* "..." *Dragonborn:* "Which reminds me... I do have an errand in this town. Clairvoyance is great for when you’re stuck in caves, ruins, dungeons or whatever when it’s unclear where the exit is even with the quest marker. Saved me from wasting time running in circles quite a few times.
it shows you the path an NPC would take to get to a quest marker. it's more useful than people give it credit for. it's still pretty useless since even quest markers are useless. but it's more useful than people give it credit for. and if you're playing skyrim just staring at your quest marker, then welcome to the franchise, skyrim must be your first elder scrolls game! go sit over there with the other people who just wanna treat it like a hack and slash game.
@@charmedrools1 Hey, I don't appreciate you gatekeeping the Elder Scrolls series. People can play Skyrim in any way they like and are under no obligation to play the older games as well. And FYI, I have played Oblivion and Morrowind as well. Don't be so quick to judge.
My younger brother always questions why I wear robes instead of "real armor" and when he played as my character for a minute he said to me "magic is weird."
Don't forget the unarmed heavy armor build, but instead of heavy armor you're wearing the most ridiculous clothes ever and some hyper-tempered Fortify Unarmed steel plate gloves
I started a Warrior build, using two handed and heavy armor. I switched to dual wielding and light armor by level 25. Next came stealth archer until about level 45, when it got too slow and tedious sneaking through massive dungeons. Then I switched back to focusing on dual wielding. Now, at level 50, I am transitioning to magic, and after that, I plan to switch to an invisible, muffled, dual dagger wielding back stabbing assassin. Sure, I'll miss out on the very early game struggles, but do I really want to go back to where a saber cat one shots me, where dragons land on top of me and immediately eat me whole, or a missed booby trap actually kills me? No thank you. Not yet at least. Perhaps in a year or two I will get bored of being invincible.
For any newer players, what rare ones you are, I recommend not power leveling too many skills because enemies in Skyrim level with you and if you are a master illusionist but only in the 30s or something with destruction or conjuration, then you might have a hard time because the enemies are stronger with each level.
No, don't buy any spells from Farengar, wait until you have entered Winterhold - if you have bought the required spell for entry you miss the chance to get a very low-cost spell.
@@Kirokill1 Fast travel to the atronach stone and activate it? You now have 150 magicka and can pass her test. Just switch to another stone that you will actually use after that .
+Jumper someone told me years ago so if im playing a fire mage i use muffle to get 50 illusion then get the aspect of terror perk to boost the damage of fire spells. Aspect of terror makes fear spells more effective and apparently fire spells can be classed as fear spells as it makes foes run away when burning on low health
a much better way would be to find deathbell, salt pile and jazbay grapes. Or dragons tongue, fly amanita and mora tapinella, mix those alchemy potions and you will get 40-50000 gold in a few in game days.
Only problems I had with it was, lack of characters in the “College” just a couple more students would of been enough. Also fleshing out more of the teachers. Each teacher could of had there own quest line, in addition to the master spells ones. Maybe each one was connected to one of Skyrim’s many provinces helping to breath life into these regions. For example if the restoration teacher had a quest to cure a a sickness effecting the people of Dawnstar. They would take you along and you would start curing people but eventually you found out someone was poisoning the food. You tell the restoration teacher and you two track down and stop the poisoning of the food. Each one could have a unique quest and they don’t have to be all about there respected school of magic. Watching some of the teachers also cast high level spells including the master spells would make you want to learn more in the arts of being a mage, you should finish the quest saying damn I want to be able to do that. Now you have better character development, and you create a drive for players to continue being mages. This will also create more progression as the teacher will give you up to expert level spells once you completed each respected quest line. Once you got the first major quest done and you are the right level you can take on the master spells quests. Granted I think almost all the master spells need a little bit of a rework so they really feel like master spells that you should want to have. Things like the firestorm spell should summon fire wyrms, giving the master spell far more utility over the other fire spells. However not diminishing the need to still use your expect, and also your adept spells. Also I agree I wish we had some of the teachers come with us on the quest. They could tell us some of the lore while teaching us spells as we go. Plus it would make a little more sense seeing the students accompanied by the teachers. And after a few missions once you have proved yourself, you can tell the teachers to wait outside the dungeons or stay at the college, so if you really hate having the followers they didn’t need to be there. These would flush out the college I think a little more and give you a bit more of a connection with the world.
You did hear Phineas say about how the entire previous cohort of students went missing? Did you meet the elf in town at the inn who left the college? There *were* seven more students.
Over a decade of playing having Skyrim I decided to start a mage build last night and before watching this video I followed the first ten minutes of this video step by step, I have a good feeling about this play through
It's a shame Skyrim's magic system is so -fixed- limited compared to Morrowind and Daggerfall. I remember making spells that would give me levitation, invisibility, and healing while spamming massive fireballs that would absorb health and stamina. Can't really do that anymore, unfortunately.
huckmart 99 Todd Howard isn't the only developer he's part of a team that decided that. Todd Howard is just the face of it all. ( kinda like the queen of England, she's just a face and has no real power)
When anyone from a dev goes to an interview, it is rarely just the opinion of the one person. Whoever goes on record for the interview has to give an answer that the team as a whole can be content with. What Big Ro said is still completely valid. Not saying the answer was rehearsed, though it was an answer to represent the reasons for the whole team, not just Todd Howard himself. Even more so since he is mostly just the face for things like that.
huckmart 99 well to be honest I didn't know I had misunderstood your comment until you mentioned that we may have misunderstood you. I wasn't trying to offend. It was a mistake, I apologize. It's just Todd's explanation is actually different than the one he and the team set up for the interviews. I had reason to believe you might not have known that. It seems you did, and I apologize if how I said it offended you. lol I promise I'm not trying to have the last word. If you like comment back and I'll hold off so you can have the last laugh if you like :) and Big Ro apologies to you too. I didn't mean to add you into a back and forth. I should have asked a question first instead of adding a statement.
When I play a pure mage, I usually roleplay a benevolent Nordic Cleverman, fighting the undead, helping the injured and punishing the wicked. So I usually forgo conjuration unless I'm playing a necromancer. My main skills I focus on out of the gate are destruction, restoration, and alteration. But I can see why you'd choose conjuration instead.
Pure mage tips: As soon as you are able, get your hands on a Staff of Chain Lightning. An invaluable tool for a mage, it can stagger entire groups of enemies for as long as you have soul Gems to fuel it. Combine with illusion and the Quiet Casting perk to set up massive infighting amongst enemy groups or even just to maintain Magicka efficiency. Alchemy is a decent tool to make money with, but enchanting is invaluable to you. Particularly at lower speech levels (though stopping by Windhelm and helping the Dark Elf shop keeper to get some speech training also helps) enchanted rings and such are popular buys from the mages you frequent, and casting a soul trap or two plus some Transmute Mineral Ore spells can make you some serious money. Having trouble making dragons go down? Lesser Ward is an easy spell to maintain in the face of a Dragon’s onslaught, and can absolutely change the way combat goes down for you against them. Unless they get cheeky and toss you off the top of a high place, you’re probably going to win that attrition battle. Of all the different elemental damage types, shock damage is probably the most reliable in the game, with only a small handful of enemies having specific resistances to it, though fire is respected for its own reasons. The fire breath shout can get bonus damage from several sources: speaking to Parthurnaax, getting both ranks of Augmented Fire and stacking it with Aspect of Terror can make it truly terrifying to see in action. In fact, it’s very nearly viable to make a build where you only use fire breath to deal damage. It’s awesome. Bonus points for wearing Ahzidaal (the dragon priest mask) and drinking a fortify destruction potion. Casting a flesh spell (like ebony flesh) before transforming into a werewolf or Vampire Lord can grant you some truly legendary resistances and stats, especially if you use the Mage Armour perk to improve the potency of those effects. Also, stealth mage is TOTALLY viable, particularly on higher difficulties. If an opponent doesn’t know you are there, combat hasn’t technically started yet, so you can maintain your magicka regen rate from out of combat. This can allow you to stack regen effects to SILLY effect, which means potentially higher DPS from stealth without using exploits or cheesing with infinite destruction spells. Finally, don’t be too invested in a single skill like destruction when planning your enchantments! Spread the love to all of the magic schools, so you can be the most adaptable character possible. Thanks to the use cases of certain schools, casting them for free is not strictly necessary, but having access to the most useful effects requires at least three schools of specialization, which precludes the usual enchanting methods of free spell casting.
Mike Shaver-Miller Good tips, I also think every pure mage should get Spellbreaker. Hear me out! A lot of good stories written about mages include the idea that they are wise and resourceful, and won’t turn down the use of a sword or shield if it is more effective.
Phantom glitch it has to do with enemy placement. Sometimes, enemies gank the dudes you frenzy before they can kill, but you can solve this by locking them down with the staff. If they can’t move, you can buy extra damage and keep them away from you while your MP recharges, which allows for more Frenzies and more infighting.
Even in second game play I tend to do that anyways. Skyrim has so much to offer that one side tracks naturally anyways. I usually allow myself to side track two days of the week to explore new places, caves, temples, camps, etc. Then one day to focus on enchantment/alchemy. For the other days, leveling up everything else.
Whenever i play a mage in skyrim i always use conjuration spells the most because in my opinion there the best spells because you can deal damage with bound sword and bound bow and summon atronachs, daedra, and rise the undead to fight for you
Good level up strategy, get Fury & a Conjuration spell and go hunting Just find every school animal, hit them with Fury, Conjure your helper or weapon and go to town You get stuff to sell or grind Smithing and later add an Alteration spell when you have enough Magika & you're doing a lot of early leveling
Things I love about Conjuration: “checking” an area by dropping a summons into it from a safe distance. Casually checking corpses and chests for loots as my summons deal with things on their own. Having functionally infinite daedric arrows for free. Being able to take dungeons at a full run if I choose to help out with bound swords.
I replace Conjuration with a follower, typically Janessa or any tank, for the early game. That way I can focus on Destruction, Alteration, and Enchanting, and keep the enemy scaling in check. By the time I hit 50 or 75 in Destruction and can reduce the cost significantly (not 100% right away), then I go back and grind Conjuration for the levels and the Thrall spells. By that time, any non essential follower will have hit their level cap and started to become a liability, anyway.
It's 2019 and I still think I'm the only one who immediately went to the college of Winterhold right after I heard it from the wizard dude in Whiterun.
That's the first thing i did as well and it wasn't easy - trying to find it was a pain in the so and so because it didn't have a quest marker :D Lots of people hate the college for some obvious reasons but I think it's a necessity for a mage player to go there.
As a side not in the beginning when you leave Helgen Anise’s cabin is a nice stop and is just on the other side of the river from the guardian stones. It has some nice alchemical ingredients (you have to “steal” them), an enchanting and alchemy table in the basement, a book to level up alchemy, two poisons on top of a shelf in the basement, a barrel you can keep your stuff in for three in - game days before it despawns (be careful with that one), a short way to jump up the nearby mountain and get to bleak falls barrow fast and last but not least Anise herself can be killed without any bounty and this levels up your skills (be careful she is secretly a witch) and on her body she will have a steel dagger some robes with 50% magicka regen a minor potion of magicka and some boots. Overall her cabin is worthwhile stop before riverwood and I wanted to let the few of you who see this and read the whole thing know adios.
This is basically the exact strategy I use when I play a mage. I use a Breton and the Atronach stone, too. It's insanely useful, especially when you use the unlimited magicka exploit by standing in Circle of Protection and Guardian Circle.
I know I'm a bit late to this but THANKS so much for the guide. The alteration/Conjuration/Destruction combo works perfectly. Never thought I'd have that much fun playing a pure mage.
Mike Hatfield finally a guy who isn't trying to call console players peasants most people i see are always pc fanboying but it makes no difference they both play games that people enjoy
I'll be playing the game on PC, but I'm excited to try Ordinator. Skyre was good, Perkus Maximus was meh, but I heard nothing but good stuff about Ordinator. Especially, since it's compatible as hell. :)
+Angry Devil Gamer A console peasant is someone who thinks console is superior to PC. If you play console but you're aware that PC is better, then you're just a gamer. Elitist just call everyone peasants though.
My number one tip for a mage, don’t underestimate the power of a long sword. It can be super handy in getting out of certain situations and can increase your DPS drastically early game if combined with flames or even frost.
If your playing on Skyrim SE I would recommend getting the "Summon Arvak" spell. It's a bit difficult to get but it summons a horse to get around quicker, and you get it during the dawn guard questline
Tip for training Destruction: You get a lot more XP from Rune magic (even if you hit an ally) than any other spell. Go to fort Kastav on the road from the college of Winterhold. Inside are prisoner cells with barred ceilings. Cast a summon into the cell without unlocking the door (for safety) then, while using sparks to trigger them, cast runes until they die. Rinse and repeat until maxed. (also lower the difficulty to novice as XP for destruction is linked to spell damage)
i always pick Nord... I go in saying, Im gonna pick something else this time... But no, the power of the Nordic Spirit calls to me each time... SKYRIM IS FOR THE NORDS!!!
lol.... Sentient is right. Funny thing is I never played as Nord yet. The races I have only played are = Wood elves, High elves, Khajiit, Dark Elves, Breton. I just can't play any other races idk why. Never played as an Orc, Nord, Argo, Redguard, Imperial. My favorite 2 races are Breton and Khajiit tho.
@Furkan Stealth Archer: Try an Orc. I tried one for the first time. While lots of starting perks of races are laughable, the berserker rage deals twice the damage while taking half. Just go for two handed weapons and slaughter your way through the enemies. Don't go too crazy with the alchemy/enchantment loop or it will be too OP to enjoy. Hammertime!
I like the Imperial I made for my second time play. Though my third time to attempt to beat this game fully already will be with a Dark Elf. Stupid console systems over fried on me while playing this game the first time was with a Argo and then second time with an Imperial, both times I couldn't complete fully >_< I hope Nintendo Switch could handle my game play for hours long. I had been told Switch doesn't overheat like other systems do, so I'll give that a try. Skyrim has overfried two Playstations, and an Xbox. My PC isn't strong enough to support the game at all so I'm not even going to bother with that version. I had great luck with past Nintendo systems, so Switch may be the Skyrim go to system that I need to finally beat this game fully already. It's on my bucket list.
Okay, I've been listening to Fudge Muppet on and off since one of best friends introduced Skyrim to me in 2017 and told me there are builds I can do to get an advantage and honestly? I really like Michael and his voice: soothing and fun at the same time because of his accent. Thank you for the video
There's an even better way to power-level Alteration, though this is really meant for lategame use if you need perks in other skill trees. Enchant gear to give you free Alteration casting, then pick up an object with Telekinesis and while doing that, fast-travel (I recommend going from Markarth to Riften and back, you'll level from 15-100 each way.)
I'm so glad I found this video. I love playing archer/mage classes in games, but in Skyrim I always found it so hard to play a magic-user. They really gave the trophy to archers - the game is a total breeze, and comically fun. I still have my gripes about playing a Mage, but this guide is phenomenal. Thank you!
Instead of holding onto the enchanted gear that long, I recommend that after you pick your standing stone you cross the river and head to Anise's Cabin. It has an enchanter in the basement, and after you kill Anise you will be able to pick up blue mage robes which you can sell or wear.
There is also a bandit camp right behind the standing stones at the beginning; there are black mage robes on a table in one of the tents, so you can have some robes and disenchant some too
@@joshuajackson472 Seriously? Going to kill Anise is the first thing I do after escaping Helgen on pretty much every playthrough. I use it as a kind of starter home because it has both an arcane enchanter and alchemy lab.
@@jacobadam6804 I'd been there a bunch of times, just never looked around much I guess. For years now I'd never really bothered with it much at all except for the copy of songs of the Alchemist. Right away I ran over there and found the hatch. It's not even hidden, lol. I just recently started a new game, and yeah, I went there right away.
@@joshuajackson472 A lot of the time I roleplay as a Breton/Reachman magic user or spellblade. And most of the time I weave Anise into my backstory, as to why I was trying to leave the country or was arrested. So my first order of business is usually to go and kill Anise and taking over her shack as my first home base. She makes for a good minor villain because she’s a Reach witch and is trying to form a coven.
when you cast flames on low magika game goes into cool kill cam thing... but you run out of magika and camera just sits there as you die to random 10 hp wolf cuz your playing on legendary I have this problem a lot who else?
Playing on legendary..... well there's the issue. Even master difficulty is a pain with a pure mage. The artificial difficulty is really trash in this game.
@@L4Disillusion i mean sure but when pure mage dies hard and two handed weapon user wins hard i feel its more of mage being under powered rather than that difficulty artificiality being a problem
dont forget to use conjuration staffs, its very helpful in the beggining, you can craft storm atronach staff in the atronach forge at lvl 1. Recipe: Great Soul Gem, Void Salts(you can find one in arcadia's cauldron), Broom, Amethyst, and a orichalcum ingot(you can find one close to the atronach forge)
To get level 100 Alteration in 5-10 mins (Must Have 100 Enchanting) (Must have 4 enchantable items (25% Less To Cast Alteration)) 1.Purchase the 'Telekinesis' and 'Detect Life' spells 2.Go to 'Riften' and pick up a bucket with telekinesis and use the detect life spell. 3.Tape down the 'L' and 'R' buttons on controller 4.Sit back and watch your alteration increase RAPIDLY!
i have probably over 1000 hours in skyrim just playing not researching or obsessing and im just now hearing about elsweyr fondue... always more to discover
I’ve certainly changed my Mage habits these last few years (looking at my old comment) - now Illusion is absolutely a necessity for me. The first Spell I get is muffle and then Soul Trap. Then I might get Firebolt or Lightning Bolt. But in the meantime, I rely on sneaking around people and letting my conjures kill them while I take their soul. I’ve stopped trying to even out my Magicka/health/Stamina at the beginning, and I no longer put anything into stamina. I’ll switch between restoration and potions because I’ve developed a pretty deep interest in alchemy lately. I’ve gotten pretty good at figuring out how to level the magic skills without enduring frustrating wait times for it. It certainly smooths out my playthrough when I get to certain skill levels quickly. I also almost never use dual cast anymore, so I never get those perks. Idk I just found it lacking, and I found it more useful to have one spell in one hand and a different in another.
1. Play as khajit. 2. Join the Companions, become a werewolf. 3. Giggle when a guard asks if that is fur growing out of your ears; go off on him if he tells you you smell like a wet dog.
+Mad Dog yes very much so, Im a "Jack of All Trades" who doesn't cheat or glitch, I just have done so much shit in this game, but i can kill an ancient dragon in less than 15 seconds while dual casting the incinerate, ice spear, or thunderbolt spells, and not use any magicka, get clothing with 25% reduced magicka cost for destruction and it adds up to 100% less cost, and boom, unstoppable
This was a great video. Really reminded me of a lot of things I forgot about. My next mage character will be a high elf that uses the Arch-Mage robes with thalmor gloves and boots.
I always enjoyed a stealthy Illusion/Necromancer playthrough. Feels so EVIL. You turn friend against friend, brother against brother, then after one kills the other, you sneakily raise their fallen comrade back up from the dead, and force them to fight them again, or fall to their dead companions.
Thank you for this guide I am a somewhat veteran to Skyrim I started playing it when it first came out but I've never really done a proper mage built this has helped me out lots
Another good idea is too obtain the Aetherium Crown which allows you t use two standing stones at once. Having the Mage Stone and the Atronach Stone at the same time is pretty awesome
This is an old video, but early game I'd add that Alchemy is almost more useful than Enchanting. Spell costs are not that bad that early, and there are two really good options with accessible ingredients: blue mountain flower and wheat for restore health/Fortify health, and more importantly moon sugar(buy from khajiit traders), red mountain flower and jazbay grapes for a potion that restores magicka, increased total magicka, and speeds up regeneration. Pretty great stuff, and late game you can utilize weakness poisons and Fortify destruction potions to make spells a lot more viable. Perks you might put onto Restoration are waaaay better spent in Alchemy.
A pure mage playthrough on master or legendary difficulty is impossible without maxing out both Alchemy and Enchanting. Your fortify destruction potions are not going to be potent enough without all the perks in the middle of the enchanting skill tree. If you have played Morrowind and Oblivion you would know that Alchemy is a mage skill, but in skyrim it somehow shifted over to the thief skills.
First Last so many fun spells, after putting far too many hours into it Year’s ago I just can’t play it anymore... they better make the next ES as fun as oblivion or I will not buy it
you should enter a competition for the worlds fastest speaker...I don't think you could've delivered that amount of information in a more overwhelming way if you tried!!! thanks!!!
As someone who back in the day couldn't get past level 30 as a mage in skyrim (always falling back on spellsword and finding my magic damage falling behind) I can't thank you enough.
Awgh. I’ve been playing Skyrim since 11.11.11 and I’ve never really tried a PURE mage build until now. I’m almost level 40 and a BEAST at Conjuration. Love these guides so much! You cats over at @FudgeMuppet are f!$@ing awesome!
I’ve been playing Skyrim for years now And no matter what I do I can only stand the game for 10 minutes at a time now... this was the favorite part of my childhood playing this game I wish I could still play it but no matter what build I do or quest I do I know the outcome it’s too goddamn repetitive 😭
Trying to become a mage --> always use bound sword and oakflesh in a fight --> become a swordsman
You mean a spellsword , literally.
Add a novice destruction spell in that mix and a healing spell.
My fav build. Double dremora lords and dual wield powered up bound swords

If you focus on fire damage it's a good idea to dive into the illusion school and get the fear perk as fire causes fear and using the perk actually increases fire damage.
Agent Sampson Adam
Not true
Mitko Mehlema it is true
This is true, but get both augment flames perks first then get the aspect o terror perk for about 25% extra damage.
Also don't forget about Azhidal mask that adds another 25% damage.
Make sure to get intense flames before you get the aspect of terror perk.
That way you get the maximum possible fire damage.
i consider myself a veteran player but its always fun watching things over again, the memories
Duckhealsu i am a veteran skyrim player but haven't played since ps4 came out so it reminds me and how to be a better battlemage or paladin
I totally agree, just started playing again on pc after playing it on xbox a couple years ago
It's also easy to forget stuff and also there are certain play styles some people won't have played, for me it's a thief build so that's my plan
Easy Adept Robes of Destruction at lvl 1.
saurer1 wow thats cruel... even though usualy I sacrifice him at the shrine of boethiah so its alright ;P
You can kill Niria (I dont know her name on english i am playing on russian) and you can take EXPERT robe of destruction, You just need to pay 250 gold to Tolfdirl cuz you killed member of college.
Mishka Gurgenidze I’m pretty sure you are talking about Faralda. She is the master in destruction magic
No not Faralda, She is EXPERT of Destruction.
Mishka Gurgenidze well you said EXPERT robes...
With my mages I also focus on Alchemy. Make some potions to increase and/or restore my magicka in a pinch as well as make some potions to enhance my spells. For this, I have a few tips;
We all know Anise's Cabin.
Thank you kind sir, also for anybody wondering, MajorSlackAttack has quite a few tutorial videos where he pretty much does exactly this!
Garlic is actually the best to pair with nordic barnacles and salmon roe in my experience (I think anyway)
I wonder why Major slack attack, never buys the lakeview manor home. There he could plant all those ingredients instead of using all that time searching for them.
exactly the kind of stuff i was looking for
Another "strategy" for some gold;
In The Honningbrew Meadery (by Whiterun), there is this one room in particular with a shit load of barrels.
2. Yes yes yes
Disintegrate might be a handy cap for conjuration though
I always take restoration when playing a mage, as most of my mage builds end up being vampires and necromage is essential.
There is just so much to do with Skyrim.
theres never a fork in dungeons they are all designed to be one way
JUSTICE FOR CLAIRVOYANCE!!!
I've always been happy it was in the game, I tend to get turned around (yes, even in skyrim's linear dungeons) and I use it whenever I realize there is no way up that cliff to the place I need to reach.
@@rpanneto I think he's referring to side paths that only lead to treasure, or traps.
Bruh just use all 3
Or enchant armor for no magicka cost
Lightning is best. Everything is immune to fire, nords are everywhere & lightning spells are fun.

The whole phrase is "Jack of all trades, Master of None, better still than Master of One"
Jack of all trades is the most OP way to play.
Ummm I'm mastering all of them. Mastering enchanting is by far the most important thing you should do first. After that everything else is easy
Until you're fighting a boss/mini boss that is the same level as you and you're having a difficult time killing it due to all of you damage skills being low level.

Clairvoyance helps me a lot when I don't know how to properly get to the quest marker and get stuck on top of a stupid hill or mountain.

Sneak Archer build
So true
I like sneaking up on enemies and stabbing them from behind or warrior mage
In the case of illusion specifically, tho, such players often also emphasize sneak, so, it's less of an issue.

I need to try that.
I loved literally breaking the game with spells in oblivion
huckmart 99 Todd Howard isn't the only developer he's part of a team that decided that.
Pure mage tips:
As soon as you are able, get your hands on a Staff of Chain Lightning.
Creating iron daggers and enchanting them can get you gold quickly as well
Wait Your Saying That The Spell Chain Lightning + The Quiet Casting Perk = Infighting?
How Have I Never Heard Of Or Seen This?
Phantom glitch it has to do with enemy placement. Sometimes, enemies gank the dudes you frenzy before they can kill, but you can solve this by locking them down with the staff. If they can’t move, you can buy extra damage and keep them away from you while your MP recharges, which allows for more Frenzies and more infighting.
Replying to come back to this later
please, if you've never played skyrim before, ignore ALL guides and just go explore and do your own thing. trust me it's so much more fun
Whenever i play a mage in skyrim i always use conjuration spells the most because in my opinion there the best spells because you can deal damage with bound sword and bound bow and summon atronachs, daedra, and rise the undead to fight for you
I like illusion and conjuration the most. Destruction magic is like a Plan B when conjuration and illusion fail.
Exactly, when you play on master or legendary difficulty, all spells are really weak to enemies so casting two dremora lords is way better
@@ENZOxDV9 there is the problem the game wasn't balanced right for mages
Good level up strategy, get Fury & a Conjuration spell and go hunting
Just find every school animal, hit them with Fury, Conjure your helper or weapon and go to town
You get stuff to sell or grind Smithing and later add an Alteration spell when you have enough Magika & you're doing a lot of early leveling

If your playing on Skyrim SE I would recommend getting the "Summon Arvak" spell. It's a bit difficult to get but it summons a horse to get around quicker, and you get it during the dawn guard questline
is anybody playing this game in 2019?
Forever and always brother
@@orkhanahmadov9963 i remember playing this game whrn i was super young and im still playing! Theres so much in the game its mind blowing
Oh and yes theres one in a bandit camp near windhelm with some badass mix of enemies yo level ip
Absoloutly
On the switch bro
HATCH MAN Always picking Nord means you’re a basic bitch
I played Every race once but only for 1-2 hours and then I player a Kahjiit Every Fucking time
@Furkan Stealth Archer: Try an Orc.
Skyrim makes me want to play so bad
agreed
C-Ron Reloaded tomorrow i'll be playing it and i'll be playing it from then on
C-Ron Reloaded are you sure it's the skyrim... or your lust for the game 😏
Skyrim makes me want to play Skyrim so bad
Fishstyx i've being playing it since i got it on friday
This video is extremely helpful! I’m doing a legendary survival mage Playthru and this is giving me lots of things to think about
I'm so glad I found this video.
I love playing archer/mage classes in games, but in Skyrim I always found it so hard to play a magic-user.
They really gave the trophy to archers - the game is a total breeze, and comically fun.
I still have my gripes about playing a Mage, but this guide is phenomenal. Thank you!
I thought the thumbnail said “REST MAGE” and nodded my head like “Ah yes Snorlax build”
Don’t tell me what character to make my mage, he’s a orc battlemage fight me
Glock 9 my beautiful 2H orc tank gradually turned into a battle mage without me realizing it
Glock 9 glady just be aware I have 100 in Restoration, Conjuration, Illusion and alteration! Bring it biotch
My orc battlemage will destroy you 😉
Mine is a Khajiit thief dont fucking judge me J'zargo is a khajiit wizard i can be too
I feel you I'm a red guard pure mage.
Couldnt get into Skyrim when I first played it 10 years ago but in 2023 I'm starting my mage build! Really enjoying it
I normally make a stealth-based character, but I might go a mage build my next playthrough.
this is such a simple build but SO fun to play! thanks Muppet!
No worries! Thank YOU for watching :P
never played as a mage in skyrim and this is very informative for a first timer!
Instead of holding onto the enchanted gear that long, I recommend that after you pick your standing stone you cross the river and head to Anise's Cabin. It has an enchanter in the basement, and after you kill Anise you will be able to pick up blue mage robes which you can sell or wear.
There is also a bandit camp right behind the standing stones at the beginning; there are black mage robes on a table in one of the tents, so you can have some robes and disenchant some too
Her cabin has a basement?! Lol, been playing for a decade and never noticed that
@@joshuajackson472 Seriously?
She makes for a good minor villain because she’s a Reach witch and is trying to form a coven.
when you cast flames on low magika game goes into cool kill cam thing... but you run out of magika and camera just sits there as you die to random 10 hp wolf cuz your playing on legendary
I have this problem a lot who else?
I feel you bro
dont use destruction in legendary until you have free destruction spells
Bo
👌👌👌THANK YOU FUDGEMUPPET YOU GUYS ARE SOME QUALITY ASS UA-camRS 👌👌👌
Ser FireKnight THANK YOU :D
Good tips for new mages!
First found this game in 2018 on ps4 been obsessed since still playing it today! I first started really getting into it in 2022
"The importance of Destruction is easy to understand... Its what you kill shit with."
6:55 the bandits at that camp 1 of them has a treasure map on his body
2024 and im still coming back to this game!
To get level 100 Alteration in 5-10 mins (Must Have 100 Enchanting)
(Must have 4 enchantable items (25% Less To Cast Alteration))
1.Purchase the 'Telekinesis' and 'Detect Life' spells
2.Go to 'Riften' and pick up a bucket with telekinesis and use the detect life spell.
3.Tape down the 'L' and 'R' buttons on controller
4.Sit back and watch your alteration increase RAPIDLY!
even better, A healing spell in one hand and equilibrium in the other, Restoration and Alteration leveled easy
BibbyZ HD even better fast travel across the map whilst using telekinesis
thank you
Lvl 100 enchanting?...so alot more than 5-10 minutes
No he means if you want to get your Alteration up to level 100 in 5-10 minutes, not within 5-10 minutes of starting a new game.
Imagine Micheal and Scott swapped voices for a day...oh ya that wouldn't make a difference -_-||
Rastafarian most of the time i never know which one is talking its wierd
Rastafarian they are one person!!!
Rastafarian Isn't Scott doing the first bit of the video?
Tearakan this is a joke, right? r-right?
0_0 wait, there's 2 people?
i have probably over 1000 hours in skyrim just playing not researching or obsessing and im just now hearing about elsweyr fondue... always more to discover
Bethesda: this... **Thunk** is a bucket.
Game stability: *dear God...*
Much obliged. I just started up Skyrim for the first time. I'll take all your pointers to heart.
I just picked a kajiht because I like them
Lol I remember opening the game for the first time and seeing the khajiit and thinking "hmm not for me". Now they're my favorite race to play as.
@@Sandstimes Same for me.
1. Play as khajit.
2. Join the Companions, become a werewolf.
3. Giggle when a guard asks if that is fur growing out of your ears; go off on him if he tells you you smell like a wet dog.
I'm planning on making Grumpy Cat in Skyrim as a tribute to Grumpy Car
Impact is op as fuck though...
Lord Daffy yeah it is and that's why we love it
Lord Daffy _Especially if you combine it with 100% less magicka to cast-gear. I guess if you don't use that it's balanced
+Lord Daffy Mages in Skyrim op? lol
Mad Dog I meant in low lvls, you can stun an enemy infinetly with impact, I've tried it.
This was a great video. Really reminded me of a lot of things I forgot about.
My next mage character will be a high elf that uses the Arch-Mage robes with thalmor gloves and boots.
We need more Khajiit builds
*Khajiit
Do you want a medal, big boy?
Kazumi Nana skyrim races don't really matter. just pick Khajit and within 15 levels it's the same as picking a dark elf.
Punchcat? PUNCH CAT!
Skyrim belongs to the Nords!
No matter what, I always end up picking khajiit and become an assassin...
Always...
Anyone playing in 2024. Just started a new game had the game for years tho.
Just wanted to say how helpful this was! Looking forward to to more content :)
+Tucker Hurley Thanks! We are glad :)
FudgeMuppet you should do necromancer next please I really wanna know how the best build for a necromancer would be
Another good idea is too obtain the Aetherium Crown which allows you t use two standing stones at once. Having the Mage Stone and the Atronach Stone at the same time is pretty awesome
I’m starting my 2022 first ever play through the magic is what really draws me to this game.
@@thomasrosendahl2783 I've played them both yeah but likely shifted to give thieves their own crafting skill. Even tho it still benefits mages more.
Can you do one of these but for an Assassin/Thief ? Thanks!
Tarek Elnomany already did
I love that the Guild Wars elementalist art is so good that it gets used for mage references across the spectrum of fantasy media. :p
this really makes me want to play Oblivion, the true mage Elder Scrolls game
First Last so many fun spells, after putting far too many hours into it Year’s ago I just can’t play it anymore... they better make the next ES as fun as oblivion or I will not buy it
The spell-casting in that game sucked. Magic is practically unusable
You never played es3 then eh? The custom spells in that were insane
I love how he recommends dual cast throughout the entire video but you don't see him dual casting a spell once 😂😂
No, he dual casts a destruction spell at least once.
Looks more like he just grabbed a bunch of b-roll footage from the early part of the game. He never changes out of his apprentice robes and hood.
I always end up invisible sneaking around with a dagger that one shots everything. Super well done video. Awesome amount of useful advice.
I never really played mage character and I know nothing about it. Glad for this video tho.
"Go cast your fancy magic somewhere else"
you should enter a competition for the worlds fastest speaker...I don't think you could've delivered that amount of information in a more overwhelming way if you tried!!! thanks!!!
I came here to find out how to be emperor Palpatine and shock the shit out of everything
It's what you kill shit with.
God you guys can make me laugh when you try
As someone who back in the day couldn't get past level 30 as a mage in skyrim (always falling back on spellsword and finding my magic damage falling behind) I can't thank you enough.
J'zargo loves this guide
"The importance of destruction is easy to understand it's what you kill shit with" hahahaha
Rofl for many days
Awgh. I’ve been playing Skyrim since 11.11.11 and I’ve never really tried a PURE mage build until now. I’m almost level 40 and a BEAST at Conjuration. Love these guides so much! You cats over at @FudgeMuppet are f!$@ing awesome!
If any of you haven't played Morrowind- try it with no walkthroughs, guides, or beta. It's as magic as the video
.
I’ve been playing Skyrim for years now And no matter what I do I can only stand the game for 10 minutes at a time now... this was the favorite part of my childhood playing this game I wish I could still play it but no matter what build I do or quest I do I know the outcome it’s too goddamn repetitive 😭
