This is why you choose voice actors who can bring characters to life and not just because of star power.
This. My favorite actor is Taylor Kitsch and he's a great human being, but the one time he did a voice for an animated character, the movie was crap and his voice didn't fit the character. (the movie was Bling.) I read something, and I can't remember the exact quote, about how you get a feeling when a voice doesn't fit a characters look and it doesn't FEEL right. There's a word for it, but I can't recall it. Anyway, Ms. Carolls voice fit Ursula and she was amazing. Too many movies cast for star talent. Sometimes it flies, and other times it falls, but we need to go back to it flying again and cast real talent instead of names.
Absolutely true. Bringing characters to life is why I love classic Disney movies' voice acting. These actors knew what they were doing. They felt what they were doing and I love them for it.
Agree!
@@miniwolfsbane2407 Character Chemistry... im not sure if this is the correct term or the term you're looking for :D
Agreed.
Notice how in the 90's we saw names in cartoons like Pat Carroll, Rene Auberjenois, Michael Bell and Frank Welker.
Now, they try to cast people like Nicki Minaj and Demi Lovato all because they are stars.
Now is this to say that some stars can't be voice actors? no, I'm not saying that a tall. I thin Nicki Minaj could be perfect for a crazy old cat lady, in fact I challeng eyou to find a better crazy old cat lady voice for a modern show than what Nicki could do. Why nobody casts her as such, IDK.
But yeah, why is it in the 90's we see people like Rene Auberjenois, Pat Carroll, Michael Bell, Tress MacNeille and Susan Blue, in the 2000's we hear people like Candi Milo, Tom Kenny, Grey DeLisle, Tara Strong and Jeff Bennett, yet now adays there has to be at least 5 current celeb stars in cartoons or else the studio won't let it go forward?
"My desire before I kick the bucket was to do a Disney film." And she is now one of the most iconic Disney villains. And always will be. RIP, dear lady.
Same.
Wtf I didn't even know when she had passed away. She was awesome as Ursula. Watching her sit there and do the voice - awesome! May she rip always.
She was so much of an icon, that she partially inspired a television show that was connected to Disney in a big way. Lana Parilla, who played Evil Queen Regina on "Once Upon A Time", said she based the grander, bolder aspects of her character's personality on Ursula. When news broke that Pat had died, I wondered if this tidbit had ever gotten back to her. If so, I'm sure she was touched. (2/1/2023)
My eyes went to ur comment exactly when she starts saying the quote. Strange timing
I'm trying so hard not to cry. She was an amazing woman.
Why fight it? I still cry about Betty White even though she was 99.
I sobbed like a baby 👶
Just cry, let it all out. It’s fine to grieve those we’ve lost.
Rest in peace Ms. Caroll. Your gentle beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to have met you, whether in person or through the beautiful legacy you have left behind. You will be forever loved and deeply missed.❤️😢
I am one of those people who worked with her several times and she was every bit as wonderful as you think she was. 💙
@@denisefromdc1796 you are very fortunate to have worked with such a remarkable woman.
For playing such a nasty, mean character, she had a wonderfully kind soul.
She insisted we not shed tears, but it's hard not to be saddened by the loss of such tremendous talent and such a rich, fortunate soul. 🐙🐙🐙 RIP, Pat.
Rest easy Pat Carroll, you may have been the voice of one of the most dastardly villains in Disney history, but you also seem like a kind and caring soul who definitely had fun doing it. We're all gonna miss you.
You Made My Childhood playing Ursula and Morgana. RIP Patt Caroll. 😥😔
I can still hear Ursula’s Evil Laugh.
Oh she voiced Morgana too?! I didn't know that lol.
You're not the only one.
Just hearing her laugh is amazing
Her voice is unique and authentic
She will be greatly be missed
Pat Carroll still lives on my Kingdom Hearts games. I was amazed she voice Ursula again in those games.
RIP to the talented and wonderful Pat Carroll 😭💔❤️ You will be missed, but your legacy will FOREVER live on!
Pat did a superb job as Ursula. In fact, I actually got to do an interview with her via video chat during lockdown. She was a very pleasant, kind, humble and overall wonderful person to talk to.
Thanks for everything Pat and May you rest in heavenly peace. It was an absolute pleasure to have known you and to talk with you. I’ll miss you a lot.
Sincerely, Madeleine McGregor from Queensland, Australia. xoxo
It’s Mel Blanc’s dedication all over again. Mel Blanc’s Looney Tunes were speechless due to the untimely death of the man of 1,000 voices in 1989. I guess Ursula the Sea Witch is speechless without Pat Carroll and there is no sound alike for her to replace the actress anytime soon.
Even if there was someone who could replicate her voice, it wouldn't be the same. Pat Carroll brought a liveliness to the character that nobody else could.
Yeah I'm not sure how to feel about Melissa McCarthy playing her in the upcoming film :/ she's a tad too goofy for Ursula lol.
She lived a great life and had one of the most iconic Disney voices! She set the bar too high for anyone to surpass her ❤ RIP Pat!
This woman changed my childhood for the better. I'll miss her dearly. May she rest in peace.
Oh this woman. I first encountered her acting when I was very young and saw Rogers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella", around 1967. I have been a fan ever since. I even mentioned to my husband a couple of months ago that she would probably be leaving us before the year was out. God bless you, Pat. You will always be in our hearts!
I grew up watching that version of Cinderella! Love her!
I miss you Pat! Wow! You were a an amazing person with a powerful voice
RIP pat Carroll voice of Ursula
When class is few and far between in the entertainment industry, along comes someone like Pat Carroll. Pure class all the way!! She is one of those people you're sad you didn't meet in the present, but when it's your time, you are blessed to be able to meet her in heaven.
She accomplished it all! She even said before she died she wanted to be in a Disney film and she did it! BOY DID SHE DO IT AND DID IT SO MEMORABLY WELL! She will be missed terribly! We love you Mrs Carrol
She’s truly a gentle soul and I had no clue she passed away. 😭 bless her sweet heart and soul! Her recordings will forever live on through all the movies she has voice-acted/acted in. 🙏
Iconic, fantastic, beautiful. Love you ❤
Such a warm soul. Her laugh will forever bring me comfort and smiles (both out of character AND as the menacing Ursula!) 🥹💜
I can't believe she passed away. Yes, Ursula will be her most famous role. Great forunate Pat Carroll RIP
She was absolutely wonderful and what a voice. I'll miss her. RIP.
She was so wonderful
A happy and fulfilled life. 95 golden years. Thank you for giving so much life and character into one of the most iconic villains in Disney history. Rest in peace Pat.

This was an Absolutely Amazing Video for Pat Carroll The One True Voice of Ursula. It just broke My Heart When I heard that she passed away.
This woman is magical!! I feel her through the screen, she gives genuine, talented, kind, happy, positive vibes. She was a true kindred spirit and I absolutely adore her! May she rest in peace!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
We will miss you very VERY MUCH Ursula
Rip fly high with the angels miss Carol your unique character Ursula was super Genius
Rest In Peace Pat Carroll!! Thank you for voicing Ursula!
‘Pat Carrol ‘- ‘Job well done ‘!!!🍷🎭✝️🇺🇸🔱🤣🫵🏼
You can tell she lights up whenever she gets to be Ursula. I'll bet Kingdom Hearts blowing up the way it did felt like The Little Mermaid's success all over again, introducing so many characters to a whole new generation.
This kind, hilarious, larger than life, power-force... there are no words. A true blessing. There will never be another Pat - in voice or heart.
Very funny and delightful lady Pat Carroll was.
I’m so sad right now 😭🙏🏾
Just when I was already mourning Nichelle Nichols
We're all Poor Unfortunate Souls with this Loss.
RIP Pat Carroll
She had such a unique voice, it's hard to see her go
This woman is truly beautiful
I knew her as one of Cinderella's stepsisters in the 60s version and I didn't connect that role with Ursula for a long time, but it made it so much more special when I did. I'm glad she had such a long life and feel blessed for the performances she gifted to us; I only wish I could have expressed my appreciation to her
Thank you, Carol, for being a sassy stepsister and a vibrant sea-witch!
(If you don't know the stepsisters' lament, look it up. It's priceless!)
Legendary. Pat is just so delicious to listen to.
RIP Pat Carroll
(1927-2022).
It looks like a lot of the people who voice-acted in The Little Mermaid (1989) are now dead, except for Jodi Benson and C. D. Barnes, the voices of Ariel and Prince Eric. Much of the child actors who voiced Flounder have outgrown their voices as well.
She looks so much fun...
Rest in peace 🕊️
R.I.P. - gentle soul
Thank you pat C for everything you gave us
🌊 + 🧙♀️+🐙= Rip Pat Caroll (1927-2022) 🇮🇪 🇺🇸 😔
Though you have recently passed away from all of us that recognized you for voicing Ursula the sea witch you will be greatly missed and not at all forgotten
This woman will live on as one of the all-time greats. She's a legend and will forever be.
The fact that she is not an official "Disney Legend" is criminal. However, I would not be surprised if they award it to her posthumously, hopefully at the D23 Expo next month.
I dont think anyone can imitate that voice or laugh. She was perfect
🎵
THE BOSS WAS ON A ROLL.....
WITH THOSE POOR
UNFORTUNATE
SOOOOOOOOOOOULS
Pat C aka Ursula will always be iconic til forever on.
What a treasure. I'm so thankful Pat Carroll was a part of my childhood. May she rest in peace.
I would’ve loved to see her reaction to the 2023 film! She would’ve loved it so much! 😭😭
Not!
What an incredible woman. 😍
R.I.P. Pat Carroll (1927-2022) 😭😭😭😭

i can't believe she did that laugh its almost unbelievable!!
What a lovely lady. May you rest in peace x
I sure will miss her.
It feels like death is starting to symbolically take down the Disney Renaissance villains and their sidekicks. First Iago, and now Ursula. Who could be next?
R.I.P. Pat Caroll you were an amazing actress ❤
You have to love her spirit.
She just makes me happy. Her voice will just always live on in my head somewhere. Hats off, Ms. Caroll.
I have an Ursula shirt to remember Pat Carroll. Rest in peace Pat Carroll. You will never be forgotten
_...loved eternally..._ ❤️...
I teared up seeing her name in the In Memoriam montage during the Tonys. RIP Pat Carroll. Your voice will live on forever.
I loved her as the voice of Ursula and I LOVED her spirit. RIP 🙏
She is the first person I've seen/heard saying she had a great life and no regrets.
What a happy person 😍
I remember when she passed i was super sad may she rest in peace
RIP and thank you for an awesome childhood!
I loved her as Prunella in the 1965 Cinderella
RIP Pat Carroll. You were a very fortunate soul.
🥺😭❤️💔 we’ve lost another Legend Heaven has gained an Epic Angel 😇 May she Rest In Peace. She will always live on through the great memories she left us.
She lived a good life🥰🙌😇❤
I’m trying to think of an actor that played a villain role longer than Pat Carroll with Ursula. Not even Bela Lugosi, unless you count his stage performances, had as much of a run with Dracula. 31 years she gave incredible life to a character that when boiled down is a witch in a fairytale. The power of her wit and voice is incredible! The two are so connected and no one will ever come close to matching her. Rip❤️
The original jafar actor played him on Broadway until recently
Pat+Divine=Ursula!!!
My great grandmother looked a bit like Pat Carroll. But best of all she had a husky voice like Ursula!!! Except she was from Georgia, so she had a slight twang!!
I was 6 when the movie came out. I remember knocking on her door and her saying Come in my child!! Such good memories with her 💖💖
So sad to be losing so many great people lately, truly will be missed RIP Pat Carroll aka Ursula.
Pat was a singular talent whom I was privileged to see in the play Mother Courage many years ago in DC. That is what I call range!
Ursulas voice always reminded me of that aunt everyone is scared of because she’s blunt and sometimes judgemental but behind that tough exterior she’s extremely wise and funny.. She loves to travel, gives thoughtful gifts, the best hugs and has the loudest laugh in the family.
I think they should make a complete DVD released of Disney's The Little Mermaid Series from the 90's to honour the memories of Pat Carroll who was the voice of Ursula.
Thank you Pat Carrol for everything
