I cried real grown-ass-man tears last night. I've only been a baseball fan since PlayStation gave away MLB the Show 19 away for free in 2019 and have been hooked ever since. Shohei is my favorite player. I got to see him pitch and hit at home his first MVP season in 21, and got to see him hit a home run across the street from where I was staying in San Francisco this year. Both were pure magic. I was tested when the crazy interpreter stuff happened this year, but held strong and was absolutely reaffirmed in my support for him. Then he gives us this season. Postseason aside, watching this season has been huge for pulling me out of the depression I had fallen into, and I really feel like that's my boy out there doing that. Ohtani is my goat, but his all y'all's goat too. Brohtani for life!
Love to see new fans but there's no crying in baseball, so you don't need to cry watching it. Cry when your mom and dad die, or when your dog dies, or if you're going through a bad divorce and there's nobody else around at the time.
@@joelglanton6531 Don't dog on the guy because you feel like you have to hide your feelings to feel more masculine. It's human to feel emotion, it's unhealthy to hide it and is a main contributor to why men have undiagnosed depression and anger issues. There is ABSOLUTELY crying in baseball. Tears of happiness and sadness are important and are a part of every aspect of it. If you are a real fan of the game you can't help but get emotional and romantic about baseball. Screw the fake macho masculine crap.
@@hexginnkgo It's feminine to shed tears over the achievements of a complete stranger; it's not masculine. Nothing will convince me otherwise. I would understand if the guy had been carried off the field on a stretcher or even if he'd retired, but that's about it.
Yeah, Ohtani has the work ethic and unbelievable talent. But he is just very likeable bc he is so humble and very respectful towards other players and the game. Last yr on a very bad team, the Angels were still in the playoff hunt while he played ... and he never asked to be traded. He really thought he could single handidly carry the Angels to the postseason to the point of blowing out his arm. He also went out during his contract year and led Jpn to a title while all our elite pitchers sat home worried about injury. This dude is just built different and a great ambassador for the game.
Such an absolute legendary role model and all around great guy. Best tool bag and work ethic in the game. Absolutely unstoppable and impossible not to love
@@0007tadThis isn't n***erbump where guys are getting arrested on the way to the stadium, baseball is America's pastime and it will have a resurgence in the coming decades once people see that other spectacle for what it really is.
I believe they'll most likely spray the champagne when they clinch the division. I personally prefer they didn't, as they should be focused on doing it after a winning it all in the World Series. However, since it'll be Ohtani's first Division title, I don't mind.
Negative, Dodger fans are not “championship or bust.” I’ve lived in 10 states, east for 11 years. A good season is and should be celebrated. Non of that Yankee/ Cowboy toxic mentality with the blue. Went to games in the 80’s, not how dodger fans roll. Be well.
What Chris felt when Ohtani hit 50/50 is what you call Ohtani fatigue. We all just feel numb to it. Until it’s gone then no one else is going to do it again.
Yeah up until he got 700 million.... Ohtani was paid very little... He basically left money on the table risked injury to do this No one will do this again... It was actually stooopid until. Ohtani did it and got paid 6 years later
The champagne toast is for the playoff berth. If anything it's showing that they are still going all out for the division and know they have their work cut out. Kobe mindset, job's not finished.
He's currently tied for 26th all time in OPS. That's as a DH so you have to dock him a few points. IF he returns to full time pitching and does well then maybe you can revisit the GOAT discussion. But as a DH only he'd have to be hitting .350 and drawing 120/130 walks a year to get to that point.
great episode! technical question - why not use a single shot with both in same picture rather than two separate camera shots? its a bit distracting to see Plouffe's hat bill or hands come into Rose's camera shot. Sorry to nitpick
Next year I want shohei to just focus on pitching. I want to see how good he can be if he just focused on one thing at a time. Cy young award next season
"Out of respect for the game" or now that managers and pitchers realize that walking Ohtani just means that Mookie is going to feel dissed and hit an RBI or HR 70% of the time.
They had to hop on a flight to Los Angeles and play the next day not going to loose sight of division padres have been way too hot to play a game hung over.
Imagine if you will Michael Jordan getting a quadruple double while shooting a 100% from the field!!!!! That still would not equal what Ohtani did last night in nine innings of baseball.... Wtf...... Greatest athlete we have ever scene in history ....EVER
No, it would be like throwing for 6k yards and like 60 TDs, BUT they added more NFL games sooo. MLB made it easier to steal so we will see more 50/50 seasons.
It’s a “bad” look because the Dodgers, who have made it to the postseason every year since 2020, decided not to pop champagne to celebrate another postseason berth. They want the division; everyone in the clubhouse knows it. Please move back to Cleveland
This type of thing was inevitable once MLB bought Rawlings to juice the baseballs AND all the rules to make stealing bases easier. Players were like "someone is going 50/50 in the next couple of seasons", someone else will do this in the next 5 years.
Joe Davis calling the game is the cherry on top
As soon as Ohtani went off last night all I could think about was how great this episode would be. You didn't disappoint.

I notice Chris never does the gambling promos. Good for him. Gambling has become too open and comfortable in sports.
Has everybody forgotten about their pitching staff? Hard to clinch the division and win the world series with only two reliable pitchers.
Two seperate things, plenty of discussions surrounding the pitching situation. This is an incredible accomplishment
GOATANI SHOHEI. Just give him his HOF already
I think a better comparison for the 50/50 in football would be something like a QB having 40/20 Passing/Rushing TD's in a season or something.
I love you guy's but I disagree on the dodgers celebration. We are focused on the title. Let's go dodgers!
come on let shohei spray champagne

Nobody mentioning he was also a half step away from the cycle if he didn’t get thrown out at third

If ohtani goes like 60-60 or 60-50 or something like that next year I wouldn’t be that surprised

Yes he is the Goat.
Honestly the 6/6 17 total bases and 2 steals 10rbis is a bigger deal than 50/50
