Shohei Ohtani absolutely is a HoFer at this point. He’s a one of one, as it keeps being said. And not any novelty version, he’s one of the very best hitters and a top 10 starting pitcher. And as 2024 showed, he might be the best pitcher in the world if he focused only on that. Taking a year off pitching he elevated his hitting (and base running) kinda shows what doing both does to each half of his play.

His records this season speak for themselves:
    - Set the franchise record for most home runs in a single season with 54 home runs
    - Achieved a 9.2 Offensive bWAR, the highest in Dodgers' history, surpassing Mike Piazza’s 9.0 mark in 1997
    - Holds the franchise record for most RBIs in a single game with 10 RBIs (in the game he went 6-for-6 with 3 home runs, 5 XBH and 2 stolen bases)
    - Most XBH by a LA Dodger (99)
    - Achieved an RBI in 10 consecutive games, surpassing Roy Campanella's record of 9 RBIs in 1955
    - 411 total bases, setting a LA Dodgers record, surpassing Adrián Beltré’s 376 total bases in 2004
    - Hit the most home runs in a single season at Dodgers' home games with 28 home runs
    - Achieved a 190 OPS+, the highest in a qualified season in Dodgers history, surpassing Mike Piazza’s 185 OPS+ in 1997
    - Set a Dodgers record with 134 runs scored, leading the majors in this category
    - Posted a .646 slugging percentage, leading the NL and setting a new Dodgers record, surpassing Gary Sheffield’s .643 mark in 2000
    - Led the Dodgers in all offensive categories in a single season
And I only listed his Dodgers records, not MLB.

If Ohtani somehow could not play enough to reach the 10 year milestone at this point it would need to be something tragic. In that case I would imagine some exception would be made. However Thurman Munson tragically died in a plane crash having only played 10 real seasons was already a multi time champ, ROY winning and MVP with over 45 bWar as a catcher and the HOF has still not let him in despite for most fans it being obvious that he is and would have been a HOFer had he not died at 32

Even the idiots that keep no-brain HoFers like Barry Bonds out for stupid-ass reasons (he had HoF career before he even started juicing) would vote Shohei in, without hesitation, if he somehow ended up playing a total of three partial games over the next three years just to hit minimum eligibility.
What's truly scary for everyone that isn't the Dodgers is the fact that this dude's likely going to come back fully healthy next year.

yeah his impact on the game alone is a consideration...., plus his productivity solidifies it. pitching on a good team like the dodgers, i dont see how he does not win over 10 games every year and i do not see how he doesnt hit over 30 homeruns every year for at least another 4 years if not 5 more years. this is coming from a guy that was betting against him this year...........

ok, what would have mattered to me is if he was caught stealing, let's say, 20x. or even 10x? He raised the opportunity for Dodgers scoring over and over.
Well, the one place I disagree is with the Ruth comparisons - yes, Ruth didn't do it in same seasons, but Ruth's pitching in at least one of the years was unreal. And, many of his offensive seasons speak for themselves.

dont know tons about HOF,but seems they have a committee with 10yr list of chances , and another special one to grab people who somehow got missed by first committee
IMO that 2nd one should take him early while hes still playing, since they have diff rules or w/e,
couple other sports did the early entrance with no waiting period for people who single-handedly changed the games they play
otani's main comparison is ruth, who effectively in todays game is using an illegal bat
if you put them both one on one, gave ruth a metal bat,and shohei wooden bat, im not sure its an easy simple vote on who wins, esp since otani's whole career has been hitting against 3000 spinrate BS , and ruth might have seen 1/2 that or less,we dont really know
