      Homer 51 was against a 2nd baseman throwing a batting practice pitch like it was the HR derby. Steal #50 would’ve been a pick off if the old smaller bases were used.
      Also pitcher’s are only allowed 2 pick-off attempts. An unsuccessful 3rd results in the runner advancing. This is a huge advantage.
      He’s still great, kudos for him taking advantage of rule changes, but it’s important to have context too.

    • @bobsmith2211
      @bobsmith2211 Місяць тому +6

      @@NT-or9wh your context is pretty shallow and pointless tho. Hitters dont face one pitcher the whole game now and statisically the advantage goes to the batter the more you see a pitcher. The relievers coming out now are also throwing elite velocity in the upper 90s. The league average fastball now is 94MPH and has consistently gone up for years. And sure the rule change has made stealing easier but there is still only two guys with 50 steals this year in MLB, ohtani and de la cruz. Theres also only 4 guys with 40hrs and only one has even double digit steals at 10 beside ohtani.

Also if its so easy to hit those HR's why is Ruths career ERA before transitioning to hitting only W94 L46 ERA 2.28? If its so easy how is it possible a human in that time to have such a low ERA? You would figure if its easy to hit and everything was a "meatball" how is it possible to keep such a low ERA and still have 107 complete games as a pitcher during his 5 years of pitching? --- Something off about your logic.

    Great accomplishment. Big fan. But how do SB’s make you Goat!? Aside from the glow of 60/50 Judge is ahead of him in every offensive category and he plays CF which is a wash with the SB’s. I get it but this season and 50/50 doesn’t get in the HOF. He’ll get there but not if his career ended today. You don’t have to be a good hitter to steal bases. Ricky hit .267 when set the record. And stop with the Ruth comparisons and competition issues. My grandmother could steal today. Competition? Let’s see today’s hitters takeoff all the protective gear the batting gloves, the helmets and stand in there against guys throwing balls as dark as mud when it’s legal to use foreign substances and throw at your head anytime they want without any repercussions. these guys would pee themselves. they can’t even allow themselves to get taken out of base.
    And sorry he’s not in the conversation with Ruth. Forget the era or any other ridiculous comparisons. Both play under the rules at the time. #’s speak for themselves. Ruth 1922 .356-54-137. 1921 .378-59-171. 1927 .376-60-164. Ohtani today is at .297-52-127. It’s not even close. The SB’s and 50/50 don’t make up the disparity. And Ruth was a position player. So celebrate the 50/50 but don’t get carried away. Let’s see what he does when he’s pitching again. Jury is out until then.

      theres only two guys with 50+ steals this season so unless de la cruz is your grandmother, she aint stealing more than ohtani either. Noone said he is the GOAT for SB. Theres plenty of other reasons why you can argue he is the GOAT. If you want to talk about different eras, one starters usually pitch the whole game and statisically the advantage swings so far toward the hitter after 3 time around the order. Relievers back then were not coming out throwing 100 either. And nevermind technology favors pitching now with maximizing velocity, spin rate and analyzing shape of pitches. And how are you still using batting average and RBI to talk about hitting in 2024 but not talk about the level of competition when familiarity also favors the hitter.

      Babe Ruth was the best in his era. Ohtani is the best in his era. The difference between the two is that Ohtani would be the best in Ruth's era too but not the other way around. It's just fact. It is not an insult on Babe Ruth. Both Ruth and Ohtani are iconic players and deserve a special place in history.

      Does that say more about Babe or his competition? lol.
      It’s like a D-1 top prospect playing against little leaguers.
      He was ahead of his time. That and everyone else sucked ass 🤷🏻😂

      @@George-f8h How do you know Ruth wouldn't hit 75 HRs today? You don't.
      Everyone likes to play the one-way time machine game where a modern guy who has enjoyed basically 100 years worth of advances in science, medicine, nutrition, training, technology, facilities, equipment, etc. and bring him back in time and say he would be better. How do we know what Ruth would look like if he were born in 1995 instead of 1895? It's a silly argument. No one has, nor will they ever dominate the game as Ruth did in his era. Ohtani is a unicorn who deserves the compliment of being compared to Ruth and if he plays long enough an even deeper dive into the comparison is worthy.
      Probably a thousand other people in history recorded faster times than Jesse Owens. Does that put them above him on the list of All-Time Track and Field athletes? Hell no. Again, if Owens were born today how much faster would he be with modern training and nutrition? No way to know. All we know is he dominated like no other on the biggest stage ever when he walked this planet.
      I understand the thought process of why people want to claim Ohtani as the GOAT. From what I've seen, based on raw talent he is the probably the all-around greatest talent we've seen. To some that defines the GOAT. To me it doesn't. If that was the metric, I can name 100 guys who had more all-around talent than Tom Brady but they sure as hell aren't anywhere near him in the GOAT discussion.

    you start with f- babe ruth? as if people are walking around in 2024 saying "well he's no babe ruth"? who are you talking to where you think they are someone that's stumping for babe ruth and worth listening too? that person would have to be 90+ years old to have a dog in the fight and not be racist, maybe 5 of those people exist in all of the world? are they really worth basing the start of your segment around? also, yes babe ruth was better than ohtani is, but ohtani can still become better than what babe ruth was, shouldn't that be the starting point, isn't that enough? are you trying to help the enjoyment of the viewer/listener or are you just trying to say things you think will get interest? i have zero interest in, looks like im 57 seconds into the vid, zero interest in anything the rest of the way, and you helped put forth zero interest in what you have to say by the way you have said it

    lmao his career avg is 270 & strikes out over once a game, if there wasn't 3 rule changes last year to help stealing he'd probably only have 20 steals. His 3rd hr that game was against a position player with a 43 era in 1.2 innings throwing bp balls & against the 29th worst pitching team overall
