One thing that I do when I am trimming the KA-50 is that I get on my desired heading & ensure I am steady on that heading without use of the rudder pedals. When hit the trimmer, my feet are not applying rudder. This keeps the rudder out of the equation. From what I understand, the rudder is not trimmed in within the actual aircraft. Just a by product that it happens in game. It took a little practice, but it has saved me EONS of headaches and allows for perfect hovering while engaged.
Currently studying A-10C but purchased Ka-50 in recent sale and just wanted to 'have a peek at it'... LOVE your presentation style and enjoyed this very informative tutorial. Subscribed and now looking out for more... Many thanks...
Just wanted to say that this video definitely helped me. There was one thing I was missing. The thing where if you are trimmed to turn left and then try to trim to just go straight, and it wants to turn right instead because it counters the left trim it used to have set, that bit was driving me crazy. I couldn't figure out why it was over correcting constantly. Now I get it.
That's exactly correct yes. You have to bear in mind that the KA-50 does not have an autohover. It has a hover hold. It's up to you to get as close to a hover as you can before asking the aircraft to then 'hold' it.
This was really an excellent video. As someone who's played a fair bit of A-10c but is just now picking up BS2 I'm looking forward to more tutorial type videos from you!
Although I don't play DCS, the explanations you give for how/why/what happens is fantastic. Makes me feel really intelligent for knowing! A start-up video would certainly be watched :)
Thanks a heap Froo, sub x 1. You explained what I have been trying to figure out for ages in minutes. You are really good at presenting so keep it up, looking forward to watching more from you.
Nice video, quite a bit of info packed into 18 minutes. Great tutorial, I wish I would have seen this before I finally figured out Trim hahahaha. Nice clarification made simple and concisely.
Great vid I have almost everything from dcs and have been playing since 2010 when it was just blackshark and I gotta say I still find my self coming back to this badass duck I've finally slowly learned the avionics and weapons delivery and want to learn the flight model
thank you for these videos I've only just started dcs and will be spending a lot of time watching your vids , nice explanations short and to the point, thanks )
Awesome! I needed this. also, you should do some DCS World with the P51 and A10, maybe even some Combined Ops as that's the only DCS I haven't made up my mind to buy or not.
Just caught your bs2 trimmer video, thumbs up mate. I have owned it since it came out, but have flown it very little because of it's temperamental controls. You have shown me some light. I didn't see a weapons deployment video. I cvould use an in depth look at that. vThanks mate
Nice vid, helped to understand this thing a bit better! Although I don't think the reason you were drifting off course in the route mode was wind, it was actually trim. From my experience neither route mode nor autohover are very fond of having the roll trimmed off center. It will cause it to slightly veer off target in route mode and start a sideways drift in autohover.
Hmmm. Gotta say I don't like Combined Ops right now - far too many bugs. My opinion will hopefully change as it get's nearer to final final release. I've been thinking about the Mustang and I have a cunning plan about that one that I'll keep under my hat :) Glad you enjoyed the vid here.
Great tutorial! Would love to see more especially on the BS...I have the A-10 pretty much down and I just started trying to tackle this beast but the games tutorials are horrible lol
lol, I was kidding, in the original game you are basically forced to use the auto pilots or you end up ripping off your own rotors, the last thing the poor guy hears is that sexy voice saying, check EKRAN, left engine overspeed, then you die otherwise. Love these DCS vids mate. I'm still debating whether or not to get P51 though, or Combined arms, I'm gonna wait and see what the missions are like and hope they put some more historical planes for you to dogfight with.
omg you changed the title?? I don't mind btw, I said that as a wee joke tbh. I'm just jealous cos I'm poor and there is no BS2 torrent yet. Well played for replying to all my dumb comments though, you are the best DCS youtuber ever!!
So I need to let go of the stick the moment I release the trim button? I have not played the game after I bought it because I could not even fly the damn thing. When I played I just turned those stabilizers/dampeners off, so I could at least cruse around a bit. Due to the coaxial system there is that collective pitch to yaw coupling missing that feels like there is a dampener/helper active.
From other heli sims I know that oscillation around the pitch axis while rapid turning (yaw). Is there a term for that? It is almost impossible to recover from, especially because you get into it if you are in a ground hugging hover at the tree line when trying to rapidly get out of fire. That has not happened to me in this game.
Great vid as always. Froogle did you ever get around doing more BS sharks as mentioned at the end of this video? FSX seems to be more popular request for you
I love this! I spent a few hours learning the abris (how is it spelt again?), and set my cruise speed and turning speed a little more aggressive. It's also fun hovering and creating manual routes.
Hey i got a question as a noob black shark pilot, when trying to hover i always pitch back and then press autohover, but your saying you need to trim aswell? So let me get this straight i need to get as close to hover as possible, then trim nice and level and then set the autohover?
The Black Shark's autopilot is quite counter-intuitive, but once you learn how to use and employ it, its a great aid. I would like to do a tutorial video, but theres a lot to cover.
Hi Froogle...I really like your Videos, awesome Work here..but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a Black Shark Landing Tutorial. The Videos I have found so far are not really helpfull..and I am in deep Trouble ;o)
Kind of. Trim in a helicopter keeps your stick in place, but the Blackshark integrates an autopilot and input dampener, which will wrestle with you if you don't push the trim button and keep it down when you maneuver. In practical terms, use the trimmer to set a steady course, and when you want to maneuver hard, keep the trimmer pressed.
Not same there is no autopilot in huey. when you release trim ka-50 will fly to that direction plus if you have roll angle it will maintain that angle. The only thing same is the cyclic will be hold that position
The most comprehensive video on DCS black shark.
Helps compensate the poor training section of the game.
Thx for sharing. :-)

fantastic tutorial. Very well explained. 10/10 keep this up man. this is the absolute best tutorial on the ka50 I've seen on youtube.

You're welcome and more are coming. Started on one yesterday in fact but didn't want to do the same single player thing...stay tuned.

Wonderful. Please keep doing these. And all of the videos that you mentioned (startup video, A10 videos, etc.) would be great. Subscribed.
Please give us more of this! I read the manual but did not understand half of what you gave me in that 18-Minute-Tutorial. Thanks.
Thanks a heap Froo, sub x 1. You explained what I have been trying to figure out for ages in minutes. You are really good at presenting so keep it up, looking forward to watching more from you.
Well done froogle i thought i understand ka-50 trimming but i learn some thing new from you hold trim button which is very nice. Thanks buddy.
Nice video, quite a bit of info packed into 18 minutes. Great tutorial, I wish I would have seen this before I finally figured out Trim hahahaha. Nice clarification made simple and concisely.
I'd love to see some A-10 videos! But please do continue making Ka-50 videos as well. Great work as usual!
Really nice description and tutorial. You have the teaching gift sir.
Yeah more Blackshark! Now I just need you to do the next campaign mission because I am too afraid to play it without knowing what is next!
New to KA-50 and your videos have been a great help thanks
Came in here thinking I knew everything about KA-50 trimming, left learning something! You have a sub!
Great vid I have almost everything from dcs and have been playing since 2010 when it was just blackshark and I gotta say I still find my self coming back to this badass duck I've finally slowly learned the avionics and weapons delivery and want to learn the flight model

Nice video, good work there, I will surely come back to it a few times till I learn. Hope you keep making them :)

Great vid keep the DCS vids coming there not many out there that do it ty
Very nicely done video, subbed. Would be awesome seeing more DCS and BMS stuff as well as the full Ka-50 start up
Can you do a full start up vid pls

Planning to. I have got to get a grip on my time and get all these requests satisfied.
Thanks a lot for this! I've been looking for a reliable explanation of trim.
Fair enough mate. I know a few pilots like that as well. Each to their own.
That is one awesome video! Please make more DCS:BS video's :) You're really helpfull.
Thank you sir! Big fan of your work and Shack Tactical.
LOL. No force feedback on a Thrustmaster (which given the name is kinda odd don't you think).
Thanks great vid very useful... Can u do a cold and dark start vid? Your vids are the best.
Great tutorial! Would love to see more especially on the BS...I have the A-10 pretty much down and I just started trying to tackle this beast but the games tutorials are horrible lol
Another great video Froogle. Wouldn't say no to seeing your version of the cold startup sequence. Not a lot of good ones being postedCheers matePaul
Cool - I'm planning a whole series looking at startups on various aircraft.
lol, I was kidding, in the original game you are basically forced to use the auto pilots or you end up ripping off your own rotors, the last thing the poor guy hears is that sexy voice saying, check EKRAN, left engine overspeed, then you die otherwise. Very helpfull video thanks ! I would love to see you play some a10c
Thank you very much for this video, it helped me a lot.
Excellent training vidio explained so well, I had a homicidial Auto pilot and learned the hard way so many thanks indeed. lol.
Thanks very much. I'm glad you found it useful.
Awesome tutorial, you just got yourself another subscriber. :)
omg you changed the title?? I don't mind btw, I said that as a wee joke tbh. I'm just jealous cos I'm poor and there is no BS2 torrent yet. Well played for replying to all my dumb comments though, you are the best DCS youtuber ever!!

Nicely done. A belated thank you. Subscribed.

Back in la day
1 - Can you use the alt hold to do terrain/nap of the earth flying?
2 - Can you use ATT while in forward flight?
Thanks - great vid
Can you make a vid about the full start up procedure please mate?
Great vid as always.
Froogle did you ever get around doing more BS sharks as mentioned at the end of this video?
FSX seems to be more popular request for you
Cool idea.
I love this! I spent a few hours learning the abris (how is it spelt again?), and set my cruise speed and turning speed a little more aggressive. It's also fun hovering and creating manual routes.
Can't seem to find your weapons video.
I have to say I find hovering way easier in this then the UH-1H
For the checklists? tapCheck for iPhone.
Great video! but my joystick (Cyborg Evo Foce) doesn't lock in the trim position no matter what I do. Any idea wht can be wrong?
Thank you, this is a great tutorial for newbies like myself.
Great vid, subbing.
Can we get a updated series off ka-50 with 2.5 please ?
Excellent and really helpful!
ARGGh ! You're right. I'll change the title. It was very late at night.
Hey i got a question as a noob black shark pilot, when trying to hover i always pitch back and then press autohover, but your saying you need to trim aswell? So let me get this straight i need to get as close to hover as possible, then trim nice and level and then set the autohover?
waypoint selected than press "R" and the kamov go with auto route mode to the waypoint.
How do you put in route mode in the collective? , the point mouse is not green , i dont understand what do you do
Whoa, you play DCS Dslyecxi? Are we gonna see any footage?
yes nice vid mate
Are you going to make any videos on the DCS A10C?
Great guide. Do you have one that is about setting up and getting out of combat runs?
Cool - glad it helped.
Thanks for tutorial, ka-50 is actually flyable now =)
whats this app u were saying i cant find it
You should do a tutorial about the Flight Director mode. I have the feeling a lot of people dont know about it and how useful it is.
SWEET! I love this game, never bothered with the trim or Auto pilot tho. I just stick it in hover and waste Georgians from afar.
The Black Shark's autopilot is quite counter-intuitive, but once you learn how to use and employ it, its a great aid. I would like to do a tutorial video, but theres a lot to cover.
cheers for this video pal come in real helpful
Thanks - glad it helped.
Thanks mang.
I have black shark on steam why dont steam sell black shark 2 upgrade. Are there anyway to install black shark 2 on steam.
Try a different trimmer model - it's in special options.
this is AMAZING subbed! THANKS!
please give us more tutorials for blackshark!
Thanks
A video with a start up tutorial will be nice ... The manual isn't friendly
do the startup please
Tap check for iPhone?
Thank you good Sir.
was going to ask if there is anyone who can help me learn to fly in DCS World
Sure can.
Hi Froogle...I really like your Videos, awesome Work here..but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a Black Shark Landing Tutorial. The Videos I have found so far are not really helpfull..and I am in deep Trouble ;o)
hmm I seem to be the few ones that actually liked the ka-50 trim system
So the trim is the same as the UH-1H Huey?
Great tutorial, thank you.
The tutorials and guides are valid yes, but the Black Shark 2 flight model is more realistic, and smoother.
yes sir. tapCheck.
Startup, Startup!
:)
DCS A-10! And P-51 :D
Very helpful
awsome man.. can we play together?
