Oh, boy - guys. Taking out the third and hardest screw to get to a 2015 GMC Terrain Mode Door Actuator was having me on a murderous death rant. If you have heat and air but no mode shift from defrost to front or footwell or both, it'll be your Mode Door Actuator. Small low profile tools are a must. Moving the communication module is a definite must. Taking off hood latch from first cover you take off, a life saver. If you have more time than I did, take off the mount the Module slides onto too. My module only had two 10mm bolts but I heard some folks have a third one all the way in the back. (Dunno why that would or wouldn't be the case for me.) I also suggest taking a photo as best as you can spo you see the orientation. Your replacement for sure won't be in the right configuration, so just gingerly slide the white "gear" in the same orientation as the old one then gently twist it so the new device lines up with the holes. And I took 12 (Should be neon yellow and have a 20 on it and be on the first row) fuse out from the fuse box on the passenger side for a minute and put it back in and that reprogrammed it for me. (Auto thermo might be different. I don't have that feature.) And also, folks who dont have recirculation shift to outside air.... Thats a job not for the faint of heart as that third and final Actuator is waaaaaaaaaay buried in the dash, near the firewall. A whole 'nother kind of headche. I had to do all sorts of yoga, I'm female and have a small frame and this DIY repair on the Mode door actuator was hard. I don't know how bigger women or burly men do it, but kudos to you.

You might have an issue with the actual door itself that the motor is suppose to turn. You can take the motor back out and see if that’s still there and intact

I change mine like a month ago and it works pretty good but now seems like it blow out again, maybe a defective part or I have to check something else ?
Since that part is under warranty I would try replacing it again. When you take it off check the piece in the back the it mounts into that it hasn’t fallen inside otherwise if that’s broken you would have to change the door inside the hvac unit.
@@acetechauto7 I get the part from AutoZone and unfortunately they say it doesn't have a warranty, I replaced for a new one already hopefully it works this time , thanks for your reply
Are there multiple BDA motors? My Equinox blows only from Defroster & Floor. Nothing will blow anymore from the dash vents. My heat and AC are working, just coming out the wrong vents to keep us cool. Thanks, Bill
Hi Bill! You should have a motor that controls that called the mode door actuator located on the driver side above the gas pedal. Most likely that went bad on your equinox.
I keep hearing a clicking noise coming from that area, even when the engine is off, I was told that it could be the actuator. Will replacing it fix the problem ? Thanks
So don’t know if u check this or any one can help the place that has the whole for the gear to fit into on the climate box what can I do if some garage broke that stud off with the fitting for the actuator
Unfortunately you will have to replace that. The easiest way is to cut it open and then glue it back together otherwise to take that whole box out is going to be expensive
Unless youre alright with the many risks involved with sawing out significant chunks of plastic and metal... and assuming it's even possible in the first place, your entire dash is coming out. This includes air bags, steering wheel, pedals, seats, infotainment, fuse box, harnesses then under the hood, your coolant and refrigerant lines disconnected. We had replace the actual blend door it's self and the actuator for a customer when the rubber seal ruptured, got sucked through the hvac, jammed in between the motor and hinge, and then ultimately snapped the plastic hinge. After you finally have it all back together, then the programming begins Huge job.
It’s a very big job to get it out the right way you have to tear the whole dash apart. If you can still see it through the hole you can try drilling a small hole in the middle and put a screw to guide it back out otherwise you’d have to cut an opening up on the hvac unit and then glue it back together
I just found your video while looking up mode actuator for 2011 gmc terrain. I took it to a scammy shop for a new inspection and it failed. He said “Mode Actuator Operating System”. I didn’t trust him although my defrost does not work in front windshield but it works for the back. I went to advance auto snd ordered a mode actuator. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you
Hi just follow the video and that should take care of your issue as long as the door it’s supposed to turn inside there is not broken but you’ll be able to see that once you take it off.
I have a 2015 Equinox that I need to replace the mode door actuator (drivers side). My control on the center console has the "Auto" temp control option. Do you know how to do the actuator calibration for this automatic feature?
You can do it with a scan tool if you have one that has the capability. If not then follow these procedures for it. 1. Clear all DTCs. 2. Ignition OFF. 3. Install the HVAC actuator. 4. Connect all previously disconnected components. 5. Remove the HVAC control module fuse for a minimum of 10 s. 6. Install the HVAC control module fuse. 7. Start the vehicle. 8. Wait 40 s for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate.
