Hey friend. Native Georgian here, I just thought I'd drop you a quick note about where you started the trip. Here, we pronounce Ellijay as EL A Jay. We understand different parts of the country use different pronunciations for the same names, but here, it is El A Jay. Thanks for the show!
@RonKris haha, ok. It's just not really important. Every native Georgian pronounces Houston wrong. They say "howston," but I don't make a fuss because people can pronounce things how they like.
@@klxcountryif it’s not important to you, the. Why have you replied multiple times here? The same one word. Importance of pronunciation is debatable but one of you is lying.
We rode day 1 also. We started at 0900 and was at Suches by 1300 on big bikes. We almost didn’t go on the road closed portion. We thought it’s only .8 easy enough to turn around if needed. Definitely glad we didn’t bypass it.
It’s a worthy section to ride. I hope word gets around so folks don’t skip it. And yes it seemed to me that first section rode very fast. I wondered if it was cause I was on the CRF and not my GS…appears it’s just fast.
There was a large group headed the clockwise direction on my final day so I imagine there will be several riders with ride reports by the end of the weekend.
That sign saying road closed was there when BDR team filmed. Road it as well the day after they hit it fun on the 1250 gs. Good job and enjoy it’s a great route.
@@richjones859 it was a great route. So so far on road closed signs…I’ve ‘investigated’ over a dozen with only one actually being a closure. The NEBDR had all kinds of erroneous signs.
Man the ADV bug has me bitten right now. Living in the north suburbs on Atlanta, right on the edge of all of these north Georgia rides, I watched with great interest as they launched the BDR here, and I just watched the full Chattahoochee BDR-X documentary... it was AMAZING. We have a "backup" cruiser that doesn't get ridden much and I'm thinking about trading it for a ADV bike. I've been riding since 12yo over 40yrs but this'll be my first ADV bike over all that time. Looked so far at the Benelli TRK 502 X, the Ibex 450, and the V-Strom 650. I'm leaning toward the Suzuki... any suggestions?
I'll recommend the lightest bike you are comfortable with riding on road. I've been riding adventure bikes for awhile and have really embraced the small bikes for off-road BDR type adventures. I'd steer you toward something more dual sport like a DRZ400(there's a new model coming out) or a Honda CRF300. I'm lucky and in a position to own multiple bikes and it seems like you are as well. I'll be having both a dual sport kitted out for BDR's and bigger bikes for touring in my stable. I recently gave up my BMW GS1200 as I've chosen a dual sport for adventure rides the past few years. This spring I'll pick up another big bike but it might not be an adventure bike but lean a little more road oriented since embracing the dual sports for BDR type rides. Also in N. GA there are all kinds of off-roading to do....and exploring is great on a dual sport...if you get in over your head they are easy to turn around or push through a particular rough section that can be tough on a big bike.
It's a good route for big bikes. I would ride my 1200gs. I might skip the expert section but other than that you should have very little problems on a big bike.
Thanks for the early ride report. The Chattahoochee BDR-X is on my To Do list, hopefully this fall.
Not this fall, too much hurricane damage. Next year.

Thanks for the info....I'll give the proper pronunciation a shot next video!

great fun! thx for sharing your adventure..
That’s for the video. I’m riding it next month on my Tuareg. So this is helpful.
It's a good ride. I think you'll enjoy it! How do you like your Tuareg? It's on my bike radar...just no dealers very close to me.
Doubtful. Too much hurricane damage.
You are probably the first...congrats!
I hope to be on that this year from NC

Have always wanted to try these paths.
I'm planning on going in the spring. I can't wait to go.
Likely too much hurricane damage. The wise man would wait a year.

Is this a decent enough route for a 1200GS or too big for this?

@@BestoftheBackroads awesome. Thanks!
@ 0:37 It's pronounced El-La-Jay, not Elaja, GA. Good video though. I was wondering what the BDR-Georgia was going to be like.
