  • If you are an electronic musician like me, you are very familiar with MIDI. MIDI was a total game changer when it was introduced in the early 80s. It enables multiple instruments from a variety of manufacturers to communicate with each other.
But what are you supposed to do if you have newer gear with a USB output? How do you interface that with older gear that only has a traditional MIDI connection? Simple. You use the MIDI USB Host from Kenton.
In this video, I do a very brief overview of the MIDI USB Host Mark 3. This is a small, lightweight and easy to use piece of gear that will enable you to connect newer gear that has a USB connection to older synths and other gear that has a traditional MIDI socket. In this video, I take a close look at what is on the actual adapter itself.
I have used this MIDI USB Host a number of times, and so far it has never let me down. It can be used in a number of situations, wherever there is a need to interface older gear with new. Maybe you want to connect your old synthesizer to your computer. This would do the trick!
As I mention in the video, I use mine to connect my Casio CTK 6250 with older gear. For example, my Korg Poly 800, or my Roland JV 1010. I also use it to connect with my Behringer Model D.
I have spoken with many electronic musicians over the years who have used Kenton products. Most of the comments I have heard about Kenton have been positive. This is my first piece of Kenton equipment. As I mentioned, so far it has worked well and has done exactly what it is intended to do.
Do you own the MIDI USB Host Mark 3? What do you think of it? How do you use it? Do you find it works well? Are you a fan of Kenton? What old synthesizers do you use? Feel free to leave a comment!
On this channel I post videos relating to retro and vintage technology.
