You can see what a respected artist he is by the number of different songs people are requesting. What I especially like about his music is that he is never finished with it - he will have several versions of his favourites recorded years apart and all fabulous. Try Stainsby Girls - Stainsby school was where he met his wife.
Thank you for listening to Chris again. One of the best voices ever. This song is about his daughter. I particularly love this one because my daughter’s middle name is Josephine.
My favourite of all Chris Rea and I love all his songs and music ❤❤ other favourites are from 1984 album Wired to the moon “Bombollini”and “ I don’t know what is but I love it “👍👍
Great guitarist, early stuff was lighter but now mostly blues music. He is very ill and is holding on to life through his battles with cancer. His 10 CD boxset of all the different blues guitar styles is really great and mostly instrumental. Very talented. His double album Stony Road is very good and bluesy. He’s stopped touring since his health crisis but he records in his own home studio. Smokey blues vocals. You’ve reviewed Road to Hell a great song and album. Track 3 on road to hell is “ You Must Be Evil” a protest song against TV violence which he felt his daughter had to be protected from. I quite powerful towards the media industry.
Chris is also a great guitarist, he is up there with Clapton and Knopfler...a good song to check out his guitar skills would be 'Texas' but there are many many more where he shows off his skills.
This is the 88 version, re-recorded by Chris Rea in his album "New lights through old windows" in which he re-recorded all of his favorite songs, the way he wanted them to sound...and it's FAR SUPERIOR to the original recordings! So glad you picked this one.
Ohhh, you've just explained something I never realised - that _New Light Through Old Windows_ isn't 'just' a compilation, it's specifically a set of rerecordings of the songs contained. The title makes so much more sense now!
I put in a suggestion for Christmas week. Chris Rea 'Driving Home For Christmas'. It's now become a festive favourite and always played in my car on the way home for the Christmas break.
He has a huge back catalogue of albums and singles. A great swlf taught slide guitarist, singer and songwriter from Middlesborough in the North of England. So many tracks to choose from! Fool if you think its over, was a hit in the USA I believe. Love Stainsby Girls, Auberge, Lets Dance.....
Josephine must be in her early 40s by now! I love all versions of this song. I think the one based on the Chic beat is called the French version. Chris Rea also wrote a song for his youngest daughter. You can find the music video for “Julia” on his channel. It contains footage of their family summer holiday.
In 1988, this song was on his new album at the time called... Old light through New Windows. That version is different,.. It's worth Listening to.I think its BETTER.😊
The Sundays. I don't think they have ever reacted to The Sundays. So many great songs. And not around very long. Here's Where the Story Ends, Wild Horses, Summertime. I hope the get around to them.
Once again, I would request that you react to Chris Rea's song "Diamonds". It has many of the things that Jay loves in music. It is an up-tempo song, has plenty of piano, and Chris Rea's gravelly voice.
You really should react to Fool if you think it's over also another great song by him is I Can Hear Your Heartbeat. It was a sig hit in Ireland for him, back in the day.
Why would he think it's over? Only a fool would believe it's over,it has barely 🍸 started. Lenny Kravitz says it ain't over til it's over. He's way more optimistic
Love a bit of Chris Rea. Please please please react to Jack Savoretti Breaking The Rules (Live Acoustic). I know you enjoyed Paolo Nutini's raspy soulful sound the other day. Jack is another half Brit/half Italian singer with a similar voice and even more grit and passion, imho. I think you will both fall in LOVE!
Chris habitually readapts this song. There are at least 5 distinct versions. Some moodier, some more propulsive. The "French version" has a ridiculously long intro. The version played here is my favourite version because of the chugging along rhythm guitar
You weren't kidding were you? I've just listened to four distinct versions trying to find the one I like from his 2001 _Very Best Of_ compilation I own, and I'm still not sure I've found it. There's this, the epic 'French version' with its 3-minute intro(!), a quote-unquote 'original' version that appears in fact to be a remixed version that appears on later CD issues of _Stainsby Girls_ - and then there's the one I'll link below, which I _think_ might be it. It's apparently the properly original album version and for me is much the most atmospheric.
Happily, having now dug out my album to listen to the version I own, that one is on here: the Chris Rea Official channel has a 'Josephine (2001 Edit) upload, which is exactly what I have on my _Very Best Of_ album at 3.36 long. Amazingly, it seems, it's yet another version again compared with the four I listened to earlier - which tallies with what you say about there being at least 5 distinct versions! I initially found it labelled 'Chris Rea - Josephine (Original Single Version 1985), uploaded by user ClassicVideos80s - the '2001 Edit' I own is merely a slightly shortened variant on that. (I see the link I posted earlier has been removed, as I feared - even though it was only going to another UA-cam page...) 'My' version is definitely from the "moodier" end of the spectrum: it feels slightly slower (though I might be wrong) and starker. It has a very steady bass pulse powering it rather than the chugging rhythm guitar that the later versions seem to favour it - but it still has beautiful evocative splashes of slide guitar and so on. What a bizarre adventure though. I had no idea this song's recorded history was so complicated...!?!
Yes I've not consciously heard this version, before but having heard it now I can't help but feel it lacks a certain... je ne sais quoi (I really must find the "French" version now!) - it felt a bit too upbeat and lacking the wistful quality of the version I know, which I take it must be the original. Will have to go and compare in a mo!
Yes I've just been attempting to navigate through the maze of alternative versions! Is the below link the one you're thinking of? It's taken me four attempts to locate it and I prefer it to the one here, the remixed one from later pressings of the album, and the 'French version' (all of which I've just gone through sequentially) as I find it much the most atmospheric.
I know you say that you read the comments, I would like to suggest you check out Lee Arron, a Canadian artist and would recommend Hands On, I think you will love her, thanks
he's singing about his daughter Josephine, she was a child when he was touring the world.. and he missed her when he went away.
Yes it is ! I cry when i hear this man,s voice! He also.had another song called Julia which is his daughter,s name and mine as well!
👍”Fool If You Think It’s Over” should be your next one.👍👍
It should have been their first one
Great song.
Definitely!!
I'm kinda glad they didn't hit that one first, because it sets the bar impossibly high. Amazing song, and yes I totally agree that should be next.
100% must be next 👍, then Julia
Steel River and Windy Town are a must listen, two of my favourites by Chris Rea.
The best song by Chris Rea, hands down, is "Fool, if you think it's over".
'Tell me there's a heaven ' is a beautiful and very moving song from Chris.
Love some Chris Rea.
Chris Rea is quite simply a class act.
You can see what a respected artist he is by the number of different songs people are requesting. Fool if you think it's over is my fave!!
"Texas" by Chris Rea, PLEASE? Video version.
Fool If You Think It's Over, is a good song by Chris Rea.⭐️
Totally. I’m surprised that they haven’t don’t that one yet. That was his biggest hit.
@@RabbiSteve1...in america
Yes, love that song
Master of the guitar hook. May I suggest Looking For the Summer?
I also recommend Fool If You Think It's Over and Let's Dance. Also, I Can Hear Your Heartbeat and Loving You Again.
My personal favorite is, ''til the morning sun shines on my love & me'' live at Birmingham Symphony Hall. His guitar playing will melt your soul.
Another great song by Chris Rea is "Fool If You Think It's Over"
This is a song with numerous versions. I still like the original album version but this is pretty true to that version.
If you could ever get around to his song "Texas" it might become an all-time favorite for you.
Absolutely!
"Auberge" is a good one ❤
Thank you, I was looking (I thought in vain) for someone to have suggested this! It might just be my favourite of his songs.
My favourite of all Chris Rea and I love all his songs and music ❤❤ other favourites are from 1984 album Wired to the moon “Bombollini”and “ I don’t know what is but I love it “👍👍
"Fool If You Think its Over" is a lovely song by him (also a hit for UK singer Elkie Brooks.)
Two songs you must check out are ' Lets Dance' and ' Tell Me Theres A Heaven'....
Two staggeringly different songs.
"Bombollini" is a track that shows Chris Rea at his best. The instrumentation is sublime.
Middlesbrough’s finest his Shamrock Diaries Album is perfection , what a voice 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
His first hit should be your next reaction. FOOL IF YOU THINK IT'S OVER.
☕️☕️🎶🎵🎶

Have you heard Fool if You Think it's Over yet? A great Chris Rea song!
Good to hear this great song angab, Beautiful reminders! By the way Amber, you look great with this hairstyle !
Good one from Chris Rea, he is a great songwriter and mean guitarist. 'Lets Dance' and 'Fool if you think its over' are two other good ones by him.
A local lad who lives in my area love all his songs especially at Christmas time with driving home for Christmas, love all his songs !!!!
"I'm Workin' on it", a good song.

There’s also the rarer “geffen” version. From the US release of NLTOW.

Only one O in Middlesbrough
Named my daughter after this song. Plus, try Tell Me There's a Heaven, by him, it is heartbreaking.
Josephine and Julia, two songs for his daughters
He was amazing. The whole On the Beach albums is an absolute gem. And the title song (original version) is just absolutely fantastic.
Fool if you think it's over and near Christmas you must play driving home for Christmas an holiday classic played every year in the uk
🇬🇧
,"Fool If You Think Its Over"❤ & a great one for Christmas is "Driving Home For Christmas"❤🎶🎼
Chris from Middlesbrough. North East industrial area. Many tracks relate to the area. I know i live here. He is one of our own..😊
Also about his daughter Josephine is ‘Wired to the Moon’ my favourite.
The live version is soooooo much better, its completely full of life.
Josephine must be in her early 40s by now! I love all versions of this song. I think the one based on the Chic beat is called the French version. Chris Rea also wrote a song for his youngest daughter. You can find the music video for “Julia” on his channel. It contains footage of their family summer holiday.
Another great voice and great guitarist is Lee Ritenour and his hit - Is it You?
His song are so classy.
Driving home for Christmas is a classic - if you do a Christmas week collection think of that one.
Fool If You Think It’s Over and his song Texas is my favorite because he’s a Brit perfectly describing the state.
josephine is Chris read daugher he dedicate the song . one of my favorite of Rea
In 1988, this song was on his new album at the time called... Old light through New Windows.

You absolutely must listen to "Tell Me there's a Heaven"
I adore Chris Rea.
You guy must react to his song Tell Me There's a Heaven. Very emotional and very apt for the times we're currently living in.
This song got you in your feels. So good. I suggest The Adventures--Drowning In The Sea Of Love (1988).
Curse of the traveller is one of my favourite!❤
TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY "WHO'S LOVIN' YOU?" AND
"DANCE LITTLE SISTER". " SIGN YOUR NAME" ALL FIRE🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🔥🔥🔥🔥
You really should react to Fool if you think it's over also another great song by him is I Can Hear Your Heartbeat. It was a sig hit in Ireland for him, back in the day.
Winter Song and Looking for the Summer are very nice listens
He has some good songs and one really, really good song... Fool If You Think It's Over.
Why would he think it's over? Only a fool would believe it's over,it has barely 🍸 started. Lenny Kravitz says it ain't over til it's over. He's way more optimistic
He has dozens upon dozens of great songs, and Fool(great song as well) is far from being his best song.
On the beach ⛱️
Love a bit of Chris Rea.

His first hit, Diamonds, that is a great song.
That was his second I believe
"Let's Dance" is another good song to check out. This is a different song from the David Bowie song of "Let's Dance."
Try Windy Town the original version from Dancing With Strangers, Chris at his lyrical best.
Tell Me There's A Heaven should be your next Chris Rea song.
On the Beach is a great LP - check out Freeway and Just passing Through!!
Please listen to "Looking For The Summer" and the complete version of the song "The Road To Hell"
U mean the first 2:45 mins of nothing?
My favourite is Curse Of the Traveller, second is Looking For the Summer! They have been known to change places . . .

Ohhh , I love this one ! So sleek
He has a song called And You My Love. Beautiful song
My favorite is the introspective song, "Tell Me There's a Heaven."
One of my favorite Chris songs, just beautiful.
I know everyone is saying Fool If You Think It's Over, which I agree with, since you already did Road To Hell.
Can't beat a bit of 'Auberge' or even 'Lets Dance' though...
For an upbeat Chris Rea check out ‘ Diamonds ‘ . For once he is playing the piano instead of his trademark guitar
"When grey skies turn to blue"
Josephine is Chris Rea's first daughter. Take care.....
Are you ever going to play his biggest hit, “Fool if you think it’s over” ?
Vote up for Chris Rea - Sweet summer day
I love this song. Although I prefer the French Edit version which is a lot more uptempo.
Ibiza classic
CURSE of THE TRAVELER..!!
Xx
I must confess, I really like the original version Chris mad of this song much more. This is a later version, faster in beat.
yeh, this aint the one
