Yes, for years when I drove to my late mother on christmas time, I got goose bumps when listening to this amazing christimas song of the British singer Chris Rea.
"Amidst all of the disco". Contrary to those who believe disco dominated music in the late 70s, no such thing took place. What we had in the late 70s was a glorious variety of music that covered every musical genre. The week Chris Rea debuted in the Top 40 with "Fool", only about 15 of the 40 songs might be considered "disco". The rest included rock (Foreigner), soul (Commodores), easy listening (Barbara Streisand), comedy (Steve Martin), & country (Kenny Rogers). Chris himself had disco hits like "Diamonds" and "Let's Dance" because variety is the spice of life.
@@shyman99 I wasn’t being critical and certainly don’t disagree. I love disco but there is a treasure trove of great music from the late 70s not falling in the disco genre. PS I am happy to have lived through the 70s and enjoying all the music from the era.
Y'all should check out the longer version of this song. Where this one fades, the extended song goes into an up tempo Latin jam with a monster keyboard solo. I know you will love it .
Chris Rea had some really great music and I remember listening to On the Beach for months. The album "New Light Through Old Windows" was full of fantastic music.
@@stumm71 You are right I bought it back in the 80's or and I had just heard "Working on it" for the first time and I went directly to our music store and bought it. But you're right I forgot it was a compilation cd.
This whole LP was full of great tracks - Freeway, Little Blonde Plaits, Two Roads, Giverny .... class work from a top guitarist! And the Med is THE setting for this music!
My favourite summer child out song, driving in the summer with my windows down and this song blasting out, you can't beat it. It's always my go to summer song. 😎☀️👌
This video was filmed in July, 1986 on the island of Formentera in the Mediterranean. Formentera is owned by Spain and is about 80 miles off the coast.
_Josephine_ (any of his multiple versions; written for his first-born daughter Josephine) , _Fool (If You Think It’s Over)_ ,(which he wrote for his heartbroken 17-year-old sister, Paula), and _Candles_ (written after a trip to Poland when that country was still under the thumb of the Communists), are all songs to be checked out. Thanks for this reaction, which, as always, was spot-on! God bless _you_ guys for bringing a smile to my face every time.
Yay, finally! Late night falling asleep vibes from the early 90s for me! "Looking for Summer" is maximum nostalgia from him, for me. Florida beaches? Nah, try the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
it s so elegant, smart and calm . heard that song for the first time when I've been at Ibiza 87 and after that holiday I read that that this song was dedicated to the island formenterra (next island to ibiza) and I totally understood the sound and music. Chris rea is not just singer , he is a storyteller and he knows how to turn feelings and a mood into music
No, that sounds good. It does it smooth real smart sounds gsometimes. I you know, I'm meant for me with music. It's a different song for a different hour. I forgot question. Mark, I'm calling feeling like a f****** mind. I won't was bad guys WHO left the DO. G. A. I'll o UT question mark who let the dogs I'm gonna go jail all night?I'm gonna go jail all night a bit
Nice to see you reacting to Chris Rea again. 👍 I might slightly prefer the version of this song as it appears on the "On The Beach" album, but it's fine piece of work in this guise as well (Rea developed quite a habit of re-recording his material). I'd strongly recommended the song "Texas" from his "The Road To Hell" album (he actually has two different songs titled "Texas"), one of my favorites, despite the somewhat bizarre lyircs, it's a great hybird of his dreamy and bluesy rocking sides all in one song and really showcases his voice in all of its glory.
"Fool If You Think Its Over", "Lets Dance", "The Blue Cafe", 'The Girl In The Red Sports Car' - all great fun songs by Chris I think you like. Great job on picking your songs.
Amber and jay this is the second artist today and bat you've reacted to that is part of the group that have a Christmas song that's on rotation at every Christmas. Driving home for Christmas.
Chris Rea is a tremendous artist; he has this deep nuanced voice that can alternate on a scale between gravelly and coarse(I used to call it "drain opener") to a luscious throaty croon. On top of this, he is simply put, one of the best Slide guitarists in the world, period.
The Auberge album has a stack of greats. Including Looking For the Summer, Auberge, Sing a Song of Love to Me, Any You My Love, The Mention of Your Name.
This is one of my favorite songs by Chris Rea. The song did get a lot of airplay on smooth jazz radio stations across the country in the summer months of the early 1990s. There are two versions of this song. This is the radio edited version. The extended version is more awesome than the radio version. This song is a definitely summertime banger song indeed!!!
This backing instrumentals on this track, although quicker, always reminded me of the classic and epic "Albatross" by Fleetwood Mac. Great Chris Rea track .... Personal favourite by him "Loving You Again" .... Great review ! Thank you both ♥️🇬🇧😉
This is such a nostalgic song. Takes me back to late 80's Perth summers as a little kid, around the time of the Americas Cup. The video clips vistas and lighthouse compound the association. Check out Chris Rea's "Josephine", he's done at least 4 different versions of the song but all are great
No-one's mentioned "Bombollini", a fantastic opening track of the "Wired To The Moon" album. Brilliant instrumentation, one of his finest works; "Bombollini".
Such a great sound of summer. Put a note in your diary for 9 months time and check out his song Driving Home For Christmas (if you haven't already done it).
Simply the artist I would choose if I could only listen to one. So many hit over his 20+ albums not just those suggested here, Diamonds, Where Do We Go From Here, Josephine, Texas, Warm and Tender Love, It's All Gone, Auberge, Looking For the Summer, Candles, and 20 more all Chris Rea classics. Don't Stop!
The song was written about the M25 motorway which circles London (known for jams) he was in one after being picked up at London airport. I was in that mega jam which lasted over 12hrs plus
Thank you, thank you for doing more of my man, Chris Rea He has a huge , very diverse music sound with over 18 albums in my collection. So many more, please. He is not a well man these days, sending him all the best wishes.
A song I haven't heard in 40 years - and a song I will never hear again. You two are getting deep into the music world catalog - if you're pulling out songs like this to react to.
Thanks J & Amber, I've never listened to Chris Rea before and am loving the tight crisp groove, he makes me think of some of Robert Palmer's stuff, so clean and smooth!!! I'd love it if you two would review young singer/songwriter Jake Kohn's Frostbite for something that drew me in and gave me goosebumps: very different from Chris Rea, but I want to know if you will react the same way I did at first listen!
"You must be evil". Also he got several long moody bluesy songs like "Curse of the Traveller", "It's All Gone", "Texas", "Daytona", "Looking for a Rainbow", "Somewhere Between The Stars" or "Last Train", (Last two is very Johnny Cash - written while he was sick as a dog). For the more upbeat try Giverny, I Can't Dance to that, Gonna Buy a Hat, Auberge.
Since you guys like a song with a story, try Chris’ “Tell Me There’s a Heaven” - really tugs the heartstrings! Mentioned a few times in the comments but thought you might like to know it’s got some meaning to it. But so many good ones mentioned here that I’ll second: Fool if You Think It’s Over, Daytona, Auberge, Let’s Dance, Texas, I Just Wanna Be With You, You Must Be Evil. I was so glad when you did Road to Hell - the long version is one of my all time favorites!
Thanks for playing great music.🙂Chris Rea "Gods great banana skin"1992 is maybe also interesting. The same called album is turning into the more bluesy, jazzrocky side of Chris and his band.
I can't believe you guys have done 4 songs by Chris Rea and still haven't done his biggest hit (and in my opion, his best song), "Fool If You Think It's Over".
Oh, that's made my day, thank you for that. ❤ as for other suggestions try 'Red Shoes' your girls will love 'Let's Dance' or for a more grown up bluesy soulful sound, try 'And You My Love' apparently Chris didn't even pick up a guitar until he was in his 20's! Oh, to be that talented. ❤
Chris Rea is a phenomenal artist and he wrote and sang the best Christmas song of all time "Driving Home For Christmas".

kinda partial to the song "texas" 🤠
Yes that's a great song.
An absolute must, 70s classic.
Totally I agree with your comment
In America, yes.
"Let's Dance" is one of my favourite Chris Rea songs.
Chris Rea had many hits -Fool if you think its over,Looking for the Summer,Josephine,& Road to Hell to name a few!
I like "Julia" from 1993 as well.
They've done Road To Hell, they liked it.
Yep . Would second ‘Josephine’ aswell
Guys, please your next reaction to Chris Rhea must be Fool (If You Think It’s Over) his best song no doubt about it!
I agree! Such a great song, still have it on cassette from back in the day.
@@karenglenn6707Have Jay and Amber ever replied back to you on any of your comments?

My favorite Chris Rea tune is Fool If You Think It’s Over, a standout from 1978 amidst all the disco.
Agree, besides the great music, Amber will really appreciate the lyrics.

The album version, much much dreamier than this upbeat tempo
Chris Rea had some really great music and I remember listening to On the Beach for months. The album "New Light Through Old Windows" was full of fantastic music.
